Shameless: A Small Town Single Dad Romance (Texas Nights Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

***USA Today Bestseller***

Brady…

What the hell do I know about raising a baby? Nothing. Not a goddamn thing.

Yet here I am, the sole guardian of my niece. I’d be lost if it weren’t for Katherine, the beautiful girl who seems to have all the answers. Katherine, who’s slowly finding her way into my cynical heart.

I keep reminding myself that I can’t fall for someone when we don’t have a future. But telling myself this lie and believing it are two different things.

Katherine…

When Brady shows up on a Harley, looking like an avenging angel—six feet, three inches of chiseled muscle, eyes the color of wild sage, and sun-kissed skin emblazoned with tattoos—I’m not sure if I should fall at his feet or run like hell. Because if I tell him what happened the night his family died, he might hate me.

What I don’t count on are the nights we spend together trying to forget the heartache that brought us here. I promise him it won’t mean anything, that I won’t fall in love.

I shouldn’t make promises I can’t keep.

I am fickle. Last review I wrote, I was moving to Vermont to be with my Mountain Man. Now I want to go live at Lovelace Farm, where I am surrounded by lavender and chucks and the beautiful, beautiful love of Brady and Kat.

Lex Martin wrote this book so well that I can smell the lavender.

I do love a good surprise daddy book and Shameless is up there with THE best I've read. In tragic circumstances, Brady goes to Lovelace Farm to arrange the funerals of his brother Cal and sister in law Mel. Waiting for him there is an adopted raccoon Bandit, Pygmy goats Stella and Stanley, a horse, an assortment of kittens and chickens and a beautiful baby girl in need of love.

Instalove - Brady falls for Izzy immediately. Smitten. This book has another love story though. Brady falls in love with the community and the laid back vibe. 2 love stories and you can have a third one for free. Kit Kat aka Katherine Duran. I loved the banter between her and Brady, the little nicknames they give each other. The easy communication. The warmth of affection growing.

Beautifully written with the most amazing detail, no plot thread is left unfinished. Without a shadow of a doubt this is my favourite Lex book to date and the standard was already high.

    My lavender scented favourite quotes:

"What I didn't understand is that when you find your own slice of heaven on Earth, you do everything you can to preserve it. To protect it. To nurture it."

"My mind feels fuzzy, like an empty chalkboard after all the words have been erased and there's just a blur of white powder left."

"I still want the main event. You don't drive all the way to the circus to check out the Big Top."

"You don't have to worry - I'm not going to fall in love with you. You won't break my heart. I get that this is no more than just two friends comforting each other before you leave."

"I'm pretty sure little hearts are popping out of my eyes right now. Here is this hot man, tattoos decorating his rugged arms, muscles tugging at the fabric, asking me about the baby's binkie while he holds her close to his chest. Hello ovary explosion."

"I told him I wouldn't fall in love. I wonder if he knows I've broke my promise."

I have this little addiction where if I love a book it makes me want to buy something featured in the book. Hello Google find me lavender soap and some cute new glasses. May be a plaid shirt too!

Shameless brings us Brady and Katherine who are left raising an orphan baby girl when tragedy strikes and her parents/Brady's brother & wife/Katherine's best friends die in a car crash. This may sound familiar if you've ever watched the film Life As We Know It with Josh Duhamel and Katherine (coincidence?) Heigl, as they were left raising an orphan baby girl when tragedy strikes and her parents/their best friends die in a car crash.

"Big, brooding tattooed biker snuggling his baby niece…"

Despite the similarity, Shameless was an easy read. Brady and Katherine had chemistry, generated heat together and there were some touching moments between them both and Izzy. And being told in the dual POV worked well, giving readers an insight into their thoughts and feelings as they cope with their loss, get to grips with their sudden parental responsibilities and lose their hearts to one another.

“I’m not really a casual sex kind of guy, Kat.”

Brady was a sweetheart, a little unexpected and his interactions with Izzy were adorable bringing most of the moments that made me smile. And Kat was likeable; sweet-natured and smart although fairly stereotypical in terms of a NA heroine. But have to say I found it lacked depth in certain areas and the grief aspect seemed particularly underplayed; don't get me wrong, what we were given pulled on the heartstrings and I appreciate they had Izzy to focus on (when she wasn't being looked after by their neighbours, or sleeping) but no one seemed that devastated. And there did start to become a bit of a lather, rinse, repeat cycle between Brady and Kat as their friendship became more and the expected expiry date of their relationship loomed.

"You won’t break my heart. I get that this is no more than just two friends comforting each other before you leave."

Lex Martin has a writing style that's easy to get along with and largely enjoyable, and as with her Dearest series, for me this fell into the like as opposed to love category. I do know I can be picky bugger lately, but I'd certainly say read it and judge it for yourself.

Loved this book, loved it! Such a sweet romance but sad circumstances. Kat is an amazing girl, hard-working, loyal, a whole hearted good egg with a surprising g past. Brady is a hot tattooed biker who is thrown in a the deep end when he inherits a baby niece. Kat shows him how to look after th he baby, run the farm and how to love. So sweet, such loveable charActers.
Even though it is a bit of a tear jerker there is a lot of humour, really fun and sad, total rollercoaster.

Won't give too much away but a perfect tale of loss, guilt, moving forward and finding love.

Would recommend Shameless (we met Brady in dear dandelion) and looking forwArd to Lex Martin's future books and would recommend you read her Dear......series.

For me this was so so. It had sweet moments and seemed to have the makings of a decent story with a decent plot. The characters were interesting and the setting was nice. The thing that got me with this book was a lot of the time it seemed it was more about the near porno sex. Sex scenes are good in a book if it’s needed but it seemed they were having pages of sex. Les is more sometimes especially if you have a plot that works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ovary explosions!!! ❤️❤️

"When you find your own little slice of heaven on Earth, you do everything you can to preserve it. To protect it. To nurture it."

OMGEEEEE!!!!! This book was PERFECT with a capital "P"!! It had me hooked from the very first page right till the very end. When I finished, I WANTED more, no.. I NEEDED more!!! I experienced a rollercoaster of emotions: heartache, grief, anxiety and joy! Lex Martin's writing style is beautiful, highly addictive and seamless!

Brady Shepherd (who was introduced in Finding Dandelion) is a drop dead gorgeous tattoo artist. He is sizzling HOT, sweet, caring, sensitive, and did I mention HOT?! I have an insane weakness for tattoo artists in general and Brady not only made me melt into a puddle, but he also stole and kept my heart. I especially loved the devotion he had for his family and how he steps in to help no matter what. And my heart broke for Brady as he was haunted by regret of how he treated his brother.

Now Katherine or Kat, is beautiful, flawless, selfless, smart, caring, nurturing, loving and sweet. She is the epitome of pure goodness. I have never come across a heroine that I genuinely loved so much and wanted to be best friends with! She has a heart of pure gold and always puts everyone else's needs ahead of her own.

Under tragic circumstances, Brady becomes the guardian of his brother's farm (complete with a baby raccoon, pygmy goats and kittens!) and baby Isabella. And Kat has been the nanny/all round friend and helper at the farm. Let me just take a moment here to say that for me, there isn't anything hotter than a guy with a baby, but when you add a tatted up hot guy with a baby!!!! OH.MY.FREAKING.OVARIES.!!!! Ovaries explosion central right here!!!! Every scene with Brady and Izzy resulted in me swooning and bursting an ovary all over again!!

"I’m immediately overwhelmed by the love I have for Izzy. I’ve never believed in love at first sight, but that’s the only way to describe it. Because I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that I’ll do whatever I have to do to protect my niece."
    *swooooooonnnn*

"Here is this hot man, tattoos decorating his rugged arms, muscles tugging at the fabric, asking me about the baby’s binkie while he holds her close to his chest."
    *double swoooooooonnnn*

As Kat and Brady are thrown together to manage the farm, the chemistry between them is palpable, no matter how much they try to deny and fight it. And when they finally do give in to their attraction, it is spine tingling HOT, passionate, and sexy!! The banter between Brady and Kat is fun, witty and downright dirty and I loved every single word of it! I couldn't get enough!!

This book deserves more than 5 stars as it will leave you with that heart warming, all body tingling feeling at the end, complete with a goofy grin! I want to shout at the top of my lungs that everyone needs to read this awesome book!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Steamy, HOT, fabulously emotional story. What more could you want?
Reviewed in the United States on 26 April 2016
What Can I say, Lex Martin has a way with words that not only does she suck you into the story in moments, but she makes you feel as if you could be living the story. The characters are so real, the story so moving, so emotional that you can't put it down. Shameless was no different than previous works in this aspect. BUT being that this book was an ADULT story, it definitely brings on the steamy and was H-O-T!

Shameless brings us an emotional story that is more than a love story, more than a blossoming romance. Shameless is a journey for the characters, a journey to self-discovery and self-forgiveness, it's a story of living with regrets but not letting them rule you. It's also a story about pain, gut wrenching soul deep pain, and understanding that pain and how to deal with it.

Brady isn't exactly happy with his life, he had other plans and feels stuck in his current role because his brother left him to it, he's held on to anger about that for a long time. He loves his family though and doesn't want to let them down. When everything seems to spiral out from under him though, its time to face some hard truths and make some decisions.

When Brady leaves Boston, alone, to make the trip to Texas after a call about an accident involving his brother and his family, he believes he's heading there for one reason only to find himself in a totally different and unexpected position. Brady has to work through his grief and the guilt he feels for not being the brother he should have been.

Katherine was lost until she found herself on the ranch in Texas helping out her good friends and trying to get her life together. When her good friends die unexpectedly, Katherine can only continue to do her best at keeping things up and running on the farm while waiting for Brady to arrive in Texas. Katherine has no idea what she's going to do after that happens, but for now she's just trying to hold it together, for herself, and for Izzy. Most importantly for Izzy who's lost everything she knows.

Katherine helps Brady out in so many ways, he would be lost in a whirl of duties if not for her help and explanations. Brady never expected to find himself guardian of his niece, or responsible for the goings on around a farm, but he sort of fits right into the middle of it. They don't expect that feelings that begin to develop, they don't expect to fall into each other, but its inevitable.

I love how Lex Martin pieces this story together, from the humorous to the almost make you want to sob moments, to the lighter emotional scenes. From the sweetness of Izzy, the struggles of Katherine and Brady and the addition of the animals around the place (especially that racoon), this story is full of FEELS. The changes in both of the characters build up the story and really feel like you are watching it play out in front of you.

Shameless is an amazing story and I fell for it quite fast. If you haven't given Lex Martin a chance yet, you won't be let down if you start with this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book!
Reviewed in Canada on 30 January 2022
Absolutely loved this book! This is the third book I’ve read of Lex’ and again I wasn’t disappointed. Brady and Katherine meet at a terrible and traumatic time. Both mourning the loss of people they loved and in turn finding love. Brady is an inked God with a pure heart. The steamy scenes were definitely enjoyable and no shortage of them. But what really got me was how easily he took on the role of Izzy’s guardian. Something about a man that’s good with kids is extremely attractive.
Sweet and innocent Katherine, there isn’t one thing not to love about this woman. She’s the shining light Brady needed in his life. Watching their love unfold was heart warming.

4.0 out of 5 stars Un libro allo stesso tempo sensuale e divertente
Reviewed in Italy on 5 March 2020
“Shameless” di Lex Martin è il classico New Adult con un giusto mix di sensualità e battute che mi fa ridere e arrossire mentre lo leggo. Adoro questo genere di romanzi, dove non c’è vergogna a parlare di sesso (anche se mai in maniera pesante o volgare) e soprattutto dove ci si scherza sopra in maniera del tutto naturale.

“Holy six-pack. I should pull my hands back, but I can’t. Maybe the oxygen deprivation warped my brain because my head is screaming to let go, but my fingers have a mind of their own… and they start to squeeze the taut muscle.”

“’Would dinner help? You must be starving. You’ve been in here brooding since you tried to flash me your palm tree this morning.’
And then I do the last thing I expected at a time like this. I laugh. Jesus. This girl”
