Dusk Unveiled (Ravenwood Coven Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 370 ratings

NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan continues her magical paranormal series where a town keeps its secrets, but an aging curse might just be their downfall.

The Christopher curse is one of legend—so old that every new generation knows they will be touched by it. With every spell muttered, every magical pull needed to save her town, Laurel Christopher knows she’s one step closer to burning to ash and leaving those she loves behind. She’ll fight with all she has to protect her people—and the man she loves—but she might not have enough strength remaining to save herself.

Jaxton Dark lost his best friend to the necromancer attacking Ravenwood but refuses to lose his mate to a curse that could take them both. He’s well aware of the loss calling them, but before he can stand up for those he loves, a betrayal cuts him to the core.

Sacrifice was always an inevitability when it comes to the curse that threatens their fate. Yet it’s only when the darkness makes a subtle and surprising move that star-crossed lovers, Laurel and Jaxton, will truly find out the meaning of who they could be and what they must give up to survive.

So...first off, I'm grateful no one (good) died in this book. Laurel became what she was born to be and everyone lived to fight another day. Although, I have to ask...Rowen is a powerful Ravenwood, Sage is a powerful Prince and Laurel is a Christopher. Combined with their mates, (oh and the fae leader) how is it that they struggle so hard against the necromancers, despite the revenants? Rowen's magic is stretched protecting the town, so why isn't the burden being shared by Sage, if not Laurel as well? Wasn't that the point of the Coven? I did like Laurel and Jaxton's journey in the story and I am looking forward to Ash and Rowen's, but...yeah, frustrated.

I love this series, and this is another fantastic addition. I’ve been waiting Laurel’s story, and Jaxton is the perfect hero.

There was plenty of drama, the mystery to Laurel’s fire curse is revealed, plenty of hot sexy scenes, and a very enjoyable story.

This book is a great fantasy romance read. I was hooked from the start and devoured every word. A great read, I really enjoyed it.

Dusk Unveiled is the first book that I've read from Carrie Ann Ryan's Ravenwood Coven series. I knew going in that this book could be read as a standalone but it took me a bit to get into the story without knowing the history and other bits and pieces from the first book.

However, once I finally got the grasp of what was going on, I truly loved this book! I immersed myself into this amazing world of shifters, witches, fae and merpeople! It truly is an amazing world.

The story of Jaxton, Wing Leader of the Hawk shifters, and Laurel Christopher, a fire witch, is one filled with emotions and suspense. It's a gripping romance that will have you wondering what is going to happen next. With a necromancer terrorizing the town of Ravenwood, all the magical beings in their small town must come together to save the town and their homes.

I truly loved this book by the time I finished it and can't wait to find out what happens in the next book! I will definitely be reading the first book in the series too!

In Dusk Unveiled Carrie Ann reveals more of the history of Ravenwood and its inhabitants, and we learn more about the villains that are threatening the town. Lauren and Jaxton’s story is a little frustrating at first, but after learning some very important facts about themselves, their story unfolds. The overall plot line progresses and is set up for the finale in Evernight Unleashed.

Full disclosure: I was given an ARC of the book, however this review is my own honest opinion.

This is a fast paced story full of drama and angst. Laurel and Jaxton are meant to be mates but Laurel is fighting a curse and doesn't want to endanger Jaxton. I loved that they are truely meant to be together and when they accept their fate they change the future. There are so many great characters in this series and I can't wait to see what happens next with Rowen and Ash.

Laurel is coming to the end of her life as she feels her magic burning her from the inside out..but when her Coven , friends and family and Jaxton are in trouble, she will hold nothing back to protect them all❣️

Jaxton is the wing leader of the Hawks…Laurel is his mate but they’ve been circling each other for years and pretending to ignore their connection😢 Until more trouble comes to town, will they fight to protect the town as well as each other?

A wonderful story that I really thoroughly enjoyed and as I get to know these characters better…I’m hoping for more of the secondary characters to get their own HEAs❤️

I don't read a lot of supernatural romance, but I have enjoyed this series so far and I'm looking forward to reading the final instalment. Laurel and Jaxton had so much going against them in this book, but the resolution was well done.

Something that Laurel and Jaxton have to learn ... the hard way.

This work is full of all kinds of fun, interesting and wonky twists and turns. But it's also full of love and devotion and just pure awesomeness.

The town of Ravenwood is having problems. Part of those problems is keeping some of the secrets that Ravenwood carries. It's hard work by quite a few people that is keeping it from completely imploding at the moment. Laurel and Jaxton are facing a few problems of their own. And are fighting some pretty basic and fated urges. But Laurel is also trying to figure out how to deal with what is happening to her.

To find out what the secrets are, if Laurel and Jaxton will work out their problems, if Ravenwood is safe, and how does Laurel deal with her future you'll have to read the book. I can't tell you everything, after all :)

What I can say is that I recommend reading the first book in this trilogy (this is book 2) before reading this one so you're all caught up on what's happened so far. It's ok if you don't, but I personally think there's a better understanding if you do.

Carrie Ann Ryan is an amazing author who I have been reading for well over 10 years. I keep reading her work because it's so well done. Whether it's paranormal or contemporary the world building and character development is just phenomenal and keeps you reading well past your bed time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good second book in the series

I enjoyed the second book in the Ravenwood coven series but not as much as the first one. I loved Jaxton but did not connect as well to Laurel. Similar to the first book, this one includes non-stop action with some side moments of romance. Jaxton is the alpha hawk shifter and one of the the cleaner/fixers in the paranormal friendly town of Ravenwood. Laurel is a fire witch who is cursed and as a result, her fire is killing her. Jaxton and Laurel are fated mates but Laurel has been resisting the bond because of the curse and her fear of killing Jaxton when the curse takes her. The book has the same main characters from the first book with some new characters added into the mix. The book includes what you’d expect from this genre - fighting, dangerous situations, paranormal creatures, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, mystical coincidences, secrets, betrayal, snark, laughs, and love. While this is a standalone, there is an overarching storyline so it is important to read the series in order. I will definitely keep reading the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Action packed, fun read!

I’m fairly new to Carrie Ann Ryan’s paranormal books, but absolutely loving them so far. This is the second book in the Ravenwood Coven series and in this one we have a witch and a hawk shifter at the center of the story. You don’t have to have read the first book to read this one, but I would definitely recommend it. This series is not just about the couple each book focuses on, but the larger overarching situation encompassing all of them. Laurel, a fire witch, is being destroyed by her own powers, and she is determined to keep everyone at bay as she is trying to protect them from what she is dealing with. Jaxton is the leader of the hawk shifters and is determined to not let Laurel, his mate, keep him away.

I loved reading about how Laurel and Jaxton finally start coming together and working together. Jaxton is at heart very protective of those he cares for, and I loved reading about him fighting for, and with, Laurel for not only their future, but everyone’s. This was action packed with a lot happening and a lot of twists. This will leave you clamoring for the next book in the series!
