The Assignment Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 2,926 ratings

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.
Reasons why I should not be drawn to Troy Serrano.
Number one: He’s obnoxious.
Number two: He and I were enemies over a decade ago in high school.
Number three: He’s my friend’s ex-boyfriend.
I could go on and on, really.
When my boss gives me an unwanted assignment and tells me it involves spending time with the grandson of one of our residents—the grandson turns out to be
Troy. He’s now as successful as he is undeniably handsome.
Lucky me. Four hours a week of having to deal with his insufferable personality and unsolicited advice.
The only consolation is getting to stare at his annoyingly gorgeous face in between our many arguments.
Eventually, though, we slowly warm to each other and our outings become something I actually look forward to.
What’s happening to me?
Apparently, I misunderstood the assignment, because it certainly didn’t include thinking about Troy when I close my eyes at night, imagining what it would be like with him—just once. All the while hating myself for fantasizing about a guy who’s all wrong for me. A guy whose car I keyed back in the day. (Long story, but he deserved it.)
That’s all this is—a fantasy.
Well, until that one night at the bar.
The night Troy and I run into each other, and all of our pent-up frustration comes barreling out.
Still, I refuse to accept that it means anything.
There’s no way the guy I’m supposed to hate is also the one I can’t live without.

Another amazing book by Penelope Ward. A story of redemption, forgiveness, heartache. Troy is a breath of fresh air as a once bad boy trying to change his ways and Aspyn, having put everything aside to care for others, is a sweetheart who has her secrets but together they create a crazy, funny, steamy story that I couldn’t put down.

Oh my gosh! Absolutely loved it and not just because there is talk of McDonald Ice-cream and Goofy Scrubs (I'm a Disney fan who loves McDonald Ice-creams 😂 win-win!).
The emotion in is this book was remarkable.
This author takes you on this emotional journey to true love but this roller coaster ride you are on seems to have twist and turns that makes you want to keep reading.
I could not put this book down to the point I read it in one day.
Word of warning - make sure you are comfortable when you start reading Troy and Aspyn's story as the chemistry and banter - which may cause you to laugh out loud is off the charts. Also, your heart will make room for the quirky 8 year old Kiki. Family matters / past history on both sides will raise their heads which makes you understand Troy and Aspyn more.

Another great read by Penelope Ward. The Aspyn and Troy are complex, but lovable, and their romance was beautiful to read.

Tony Serrano was Aspyn Dumont’s high school nemesis… He cheated on her best friend senior year and they became enemies…

Ten years later they meet up when Aspyn is forced to chaperone Tony while he takes his grandfather out of the facility he’s living in.

In the ten years a lot has changed for both of them. They’re both strong and independent, but they also both have a fragility. As adults they can both look back on the past and they both have regrets.

What develops between them starts out not exactly as enemies - it’s more one sided because Aspyn can’t forget and doesn’t want to give him a chance but Tony is determined to make amends for the past. It develops to a friends-with-benefits situation and unexpectedly to lovers.

There’s a brilliant cast of characters that include Kiki (Aspyn’s niece), Nonno (Tony’s grandfather) & Patrick (the cat)! which make this such a great story & a must read!

This story was amazing, it had me feeling every emotion along with Aspyn. So much banter between the two. I loved the grandfather.
    Narration was awesome too.

Another sweet read from our sweet Penelope. I loved every second of reading her new book

Troy and Aspyn have known each other since high school but haven’t seen each other for 10 years. She wasn’t happy at all when she found out she will have to accompany Mr Serrano and his grandson. As the grandson - aka Troy - was the one who cheated on her best friend so he was her enemy.
    But for how long?

As they get to know each other more, soon Troy realises he needs her forgiveness more than anything. Even though it’s not an excuse, he did have his reasons why he was acting like the way he was in high school. He tries to tell Aspyn about his past but still it’s not enough to convince her that he changed. She thinks he can’t be trustedz
Although she tries to deny her feelings for as long as she can, she gives in and start having a physical relationship with him.

Soon we find out there is more to their past than we thought. Your jaw will definitely drop.

Even though the story is about Troy and Aspyn, you will definitely “fall in love” with Nonno and Kiki. I mean how fun is it to be around them?

It’s a fun, enemies-to-lovers romantic story and you won’t regret to dive in as soon as you get your hands on the book.
And the chemistry between these two lovely people? I mean , it can’t get any hotter !

Go and get your copy now if you haven’t already! You won’t be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars the kind of romance I love best

Aspyn's a wonderful employee at the retirement center. She loves the people she cares for, she's the co-guardian of her precocious niece, and she's mostly content with her life. Then one of her favorite patient's grandsons invades their lives and suddenly things are all upside down. You see, Troy is her arch enemy from high school. He betrayed her high school bestie, Aspyn reacted less than positively, and since then they have had not so happy thoughts of each other. Now she's assigned to "chaperone" him as he takes his grandpa out of the home on their adventures. Will she discover Troy isn't really the bad guy she's always seen him as? Has he truly changed? Or will he revert back to his true self when the going gets tough?

Troy wasn't the king of good behavior once upon a time. Now his past is staring him in the face, and instead of making him want to lash out, Aspyn's giving him very different feelings. Something akin to the "l" word, maybe like, definite sparks, and an arrangement that has the power to either bring them together in happiness or break them both.

The author never fails to throw a wrench into her couples' happiness. I knew something was going to come along and interrupt Aspyn and Troy's journey, and boy did it. But I loved it, loved them, even as they were trying to get on the same page and hurting all the while. The Assignment is the kind of romance I love best - light-hearted in parts, heavily emotional in a few spots, with oh so fiery chemistry, witty, snarky dialogue, and fun and adorable supporting cast members in Troy's grandpa Louie and Aspyn's niece Kiki.

I loved it! I enjoyed it, the light and fun banter between Troy and Aspyn , their interactions made me laugh. It was light and easy, funny and adorable, it also had some pretty hot scenes, the characters had chemistry. They fell in love so easily. I absolutely loved Louis and Kiki. They were a nice addition to the story. Nonno' s five secrets to a happy marriage made me chuckle and swoon. I read this in 3 days. This was the first book in a long time that made rush home from work so I can go on with my reading. The ending left me wanting a little more... But all in all I had a good time while I was reading and it was relaxing. So 4 stars.
