The Crush Kindle Edition
It’s natural to want the one you can’t have. And for as long as I could remember, I’d secretly wanted my brother’s best friend, Jace.
He was six years older and always treated me like the sister he never had.
Fast forward a decade.
We were all in our twenties now. Jace had moved in with my brother, Nathan, and me to help us make ends meet after our parents died.
It was just the three of us—an odd family dynamic.
Living under our roof, Jace was as bossy and protective as ever.
But he certainly didn’t look at me like a sister anymore. That was what made things so complicated.
I was pretty much hot and bothered twenty-four-seven.
And he was torn.
The signs were subtle, at first. Like on movie night, I’d casually rest my leg against his, and he wouldn’t exactly shift away.
Still, I assumed he would never…go there.
Nathan would kill us.
The knowledge of that wasn’t enough to stop the inevitable, though.
Eventually our slow burn exploded.
But more than the physical attraction, we’d developed a strong connection.
We just couldn’t get caught, right?
That sounded simple.
Until it wasn’t.
This is a story of forbidden love, broken trust, and an unexpected second chance.

- Reviewed in Australia on 21 February 2021Verified PurchaseThe Crush is a beautiful second chance romance by Penelope Ward. This story will blow your mind!!! I felt absolutely every emotion there was to feel while reading The Crush. I was taken to another realm of reading pleasure. Eloquently stylish, yet dirty in all the right places. The cast is well developed and each offers their own vibrant and one of a kind personality. Jace is a man we can only ever see in our dreams. He is hot, masculine and has a deep seated sense of loyalty. All admirable qualities. But man oh man is he frustrating. He is a character that instantly grabbed at my attention, then totally owned my heart. This story was one that had a very profound effect on me and I cannot just pinpoint one moment that it happened. I just knew when my pulse raced and I began biting my nails, that Penelope Ward was going to set the barre impossibly high and I will never be the same again. Beautiful characters. An unforgettable love story. Forbidden is my favourite. 5 stars
- Reviewed in Australia on 7 April 2021Verified PurchaseA nice sweet storyline without two many twist and turns. Good to settle down to read it on a free rainy afternoon.
Enjoy.
- Reviewed in Australia on 1 April 2021Verified PurchaseJace and Farrah had a long way to make it to their happy ending but they got there on the end.
A great brothers best friend story, I for one couldn't put it down.
- Reviewed in Australia on 13 March 2021I just didn’t feel like this one hit the mark. The story premise was sweet but it was jumbled and felt forced in places. I’m not going to blow smoke and give it a five when I KNOW this author can do far better and I anticipate her next release
- Reviewed in Australia on 28 March 2021Verified PurchaseI couldn't put this book down. Terrific read. As always, Penelope award delivers the story as only she can.
- Reviewed in Australia on 22 February 2021I’ve been on a bit of a brothers best friend kick at the moment and couldn’t wait to get my hands on Penelope Wards take on this trope.
I can’t say that this was my absolute favorite book of hers, but Jace and Farrah’s story was wonderful to read all the same.
There is a lot of heartache in this book and as it was stated in this story by Jace, life is uncertain and too short to not live it to the fullest. With all the ups and downs between the pair that he came to this understanding was painfully sad but beautiful at the same time.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
- Reviewed in Australia on 22 February 2021The Crush is pure Penelope Ward. It’s straight up forbidden love and all the broken hearts left in its wake and every single emotion that goes along with it...
Farrah has had a crush on Jace (her older brothers best friend) since she was a little girl. He’s been her first and only crush. These days she’s far from a little girl and he knows it. They’re attracted, they have a deep history and get along. There’s feelings for each other but it’s not something they can explore and it’s not something they can control. And they can not control it... Forced to hide their love it only makes the betrayal and heartache so much worse when they’re discovered. This story has it all - forbidden attraction, friendship, heartache, loss, abandonment and unconditional love.
- Reviewed in Australia on 22 February 2021There is just something about a brothers best friend romance! An overall enjoyable read, angst, a bit of drama and so much emotion. 4 stars

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, thoroughly enjoyed it
Verified PurchaseWell worth reading, beautifully written, loved the characters, especially Jace, perfect book boyfriend, I did have a little tear, I think you would be hard hearted if you didn't, but it isn't a tearjerker, there were funny bits, sexy and hot bits, I will be reading more of this author, highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh my Crush!
Verified PurchaseWhere to begin with? I've had this one in my tbr on Goodreads for a while, couldn't wait to have it. Was so worth waiting. I laughed so hard, loved so hard, and cried so hard at some point in that book. It was one of the best I read since the beginning of the year. I'll probably reread it, that's so damn good this book is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entretenido
Verified PurchaseEs mi primer libro físico de Penelope y como siempre lo borda , las historias entre los personajes son increíbles , lo malo es que si has leído un poco de penelope sabes más o menos lo que va a pasar.
Pero lo recomiendo un montón !
