The Real Kindle Edition
A #1 Bestseller in Inspirational Romance and an Amazon Top 30 Bestseller!
They say it happens when you least expect it.
It did for me.
It started the moment I saw the simple message pop up on my computer screen:
Cameron’s Mac: Hi.
And when I met the eyes of the gorgeous man messaging me from across the coffee shop, I never thought my reply would lead to the most intense, sexual, and passionate relationship of my life.
We both agreed to check our bags at the door and put our future hopes and aspirations on the table.
It worked.
I fell in love with his no holds barred attitude, sexy smirk, and undeniably good heart . . . and for a while we forgot about our baggage. We happily tripped over it to get to the other, neither of us willing to show the contents of our pasts in the off chance it could ruin us.
We built our love on a foundation of gray.
It was life in black and white that threatened to tear us apart.

- Reviewed in Australia on 15 August 2018Verified PurchaseThis wasn't a story I expected. I had a feeling that something was off with Cameron, that maybe he was a serial killer, but his real story was so much worse. My heart bled all over the floor and as I finished the book all there was left for me to do was pick up the broken pieces of my heart, shove them back in my bruised and empty chest cavity and wipe the tears from my eyes.
A must read that will destroy you and help you find hope in love all at once.
- Reviewed in Australia on 21 April 2024Verified PurchaseI put off reading this book for so long but once I started I. Could. Not. Stop. This book was soooo beautifully written, Cameron was such a beautiful soul, an absolute throb and I was a little bit angry at Abbie for being super unreasonable with him. But, beautiful absolutely beautiful book.
- Reviewed in Australia on 15 July 2023Verified PurchaseThis book is all kinds of amazing! The storyline is absolutely captivating as we meet Abbie & Cam - two people who happen to say hi via their laptops. What follows is a romance that grows out of their need to live in the present... if only they realised sooner that their past would catch up with them in the end. The twist is one I didn't see coming the first time I read this book and on reread the lead up is that much more painful as you see all the signs you didn't know where there the first time. Kate Stewart has a way with words and this book is a hidden gem.

- Reviewed in Australia on 26 April 2018This woman slays me and consumes me!!!
This book was B.E.A.Utiful!! The characters are beautiful, Abbie is beautiful and Cameron is beautiful... the King of Woo!
They meet in a gorgeous little cafe, in my head it’s all brickwork and cobble stone and miss-matches tables and chairs and... beautiful and qwirky.. anyway!!! They meet in a little cafe strike up conversations through their computers, after weeks and weeks of simply getting to know each other and not actually talking in person just sitting across from each other they decide to implement some rules before taking the next step and dating in person, Abbie decides a rule is to leave their pasts exactly where they are... in the past whatever happened in their lives previously doesn’t count, doesn’t matter in their present... but can you really leave your past in the past and not have it affect your future.
I loved this book so much!! Kate Stewart is VERY quickly becoming one of m favourite go to authors... MY rule from now on... if Kate writes it... I read it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Who said wooing was dead? Not the King of Woo, loved Cameron and Abbie

5 stars!!!
“Just so you know, you and me, we are absolute.”
I feel like I have been on an epic journey with this book, being involved from the beginning, reading draft after draft and seeing it’s growth from a great story to an incredible story. These characters have embedded themselves into my heart and soul, the journey they embarked…I have taken every footstep with them, the highs and lows…I witnessed them all…I felt them all and these two have definitely made a lasting impression.
“Ask a hundred people what love means to them and you’ll get a hundred different answers. I suspect most of them will say it has something to do with comfort or safety. But that’s false.”
Kate Stewart is an author for me that never fails to deliver. Many, many years ago, I read my first Kate Stewart book and I just clicked with her writing. The emotion pours from every page and her character connection is always on point. Kate Stewart writes real romance with real characters, those you can relate to, understand and connect with and most importantly, fall in love with and The Real is a prime example.
“This is me at my worst. Please don’t do this to us.”
“I didn’t do this.”
“You’re right. I did. Love me anyway.”
Dialogue forms a huge part of this book and Kate Stewart killed it, she brought back wooing with a capital W, she brought back the days of getting to know a person before jumping into bed, building up that trust and using that as a foundation to build a relationship. Yes, this is a slow burn, but it is a delicious slow burn, one that has you wanting for the next step, the next kiss, just salivating for…more.
“Tell me I can have this, tell me I can be this happy. Tell me I can have you.”
Cameron and Abbie meet at a coffee shop, where Cameron first makes contact with Abbie from his Mac, sending her a message. This is the start of a beautiful friendship, a stunning courtship and the beginning of an epic romance. A romance born from the here and now, no pasts, no baggage, just them in their coffee shop cocoon.
“A kiss can be an introduction, statement, and a promise. I plan to make all three when you let me.”
This is a book best read blind. Read this book as the author intended so that the King of Woo and his Witchy Woman can take you along for the ride. As with any Kate Stewart book, the course of true love never runs smooth, but this is one heck of a journey, one that most will never see coming.
“I wanted what we had to be it. I wanted him to be the last man I kissed, the last man I gave my heart and body to. And I didn’t want my heart to be a liar. And only he had to power to make it true.”
The Real is an epic, all-consuming read with all those emotions I crave, a book with its own heartbeat. No cookie cutter romance, just a Kate Stewart original with all those writing traits I love and crave. Their story will consume you, it will probably make you cry, but by the end you will be so in love, the journey will be a distant upset and you will bask in the glow of an unforgettable love story.
“It was so obvious we were more than coffee.”

5.0 out of 5 stars My favourite read this year
Verified PurchaseLord my heart. What an absolute breathtaking read.
I didn’t really know what to expect from The Real if I’m honest. I tried my hardest not to read reviews, deciding I wanted to go in all but blind. BEST DECISION EVER!!! I’m so pleased I did, because I got to see these beautiful characters & their heart tugging journey for all it was worth & what a journey it was.
When I first started the book, I thought the loudest voice would be Abbie’s, but I was so wrong, because it was Cameron who I heard the most, even when he was silent. I can’t express how deeply I fell for this man & his strength, his love & his heart wrenching vulnerability. I can whole heartedly say he is in my Top 3 all time favourite hero’s.
Kate managed to shatter me, then fix me. (almost) as I witnessed this amazingly tender, yet painful story of love. Real love. The emotions poured from each & every page, they were intense, raw, passionate & desperate. They hurt my heart so damn much, yet they also forced me to be hopeful, to believe.
Not enough stars for this amazing book. My top read of 2018 to date.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sexy, Slow-Burn Romance with a Twist!!
Verified PurchaseAsk a hundred people what love means to them and you’ll get a hundred different answers.
Aaaahhhhh!! What a sexy and slow-burn love story. I went into this book blind so please trust me when I say that every page is worth it! I was completely blindsided by the twist in this book and it made every single moment worth it. Set in Chicago, Abbie and Cameron's story is mature, romantic, slow-building and yes, very, very real.
They meet over coffee and their relationship builds over a series of coffee-only dates. Abbie has been badly hurt before and is wary of trusting of most men. So you know that when she gives her heart to Cameron, she is all in.
“Just be careful. You never really know someone unless they want you to,” she said absently. “See you tomorrow.” She’d unknowingly struck a nerve. My hidden fear. That no man could be trusted. That every man might hurt me.
Abbie has a wonderful and fulfilling career and certainly doesn't need a man to complete her but Cameron is a born romantic and takes their relationship at Abbie's pace. He is funny, sexy, smart and completely charming. And treats her like gold.
“Don’t be nervous,” he whispered. “You give me a new reason to want you every single day.”
I certainly wasn't expecting the bombshell that Ms. Stewart dropped in the middle of this book!! It made me re-think every thing I had just read. The love and chemistry between Abbie and Cameron was simply undeniable and they both were good people who deserved a chance at love and happiness.
"All I did was fight for the happiness I wanted to deserve. When . . . was it going to be my time? And hadn’t I given enough flesh?"
I loved this book and I absolutely adored how quirky Abbie was. This book also made me aware of a very serious issue that is not discussed as much as it should be. And for that, I applaud the author. I highly recommend this book and Kate Stewart remains one of my very favorite contemporary romance authors.
“But just so you know, you and me, we are absolute.”

2.0 out of 5 stars Mmmmm what can i say.....
Verified PurchaseWell it was good but not that good to give 5 stars.Firstly the monologues of the characters r stretched too much that u tend you go back some pages and try to understand what exactly is the monologue about, secondly since the beginning somehow in the back of my mind i was waiting for the other shoe to drop. The author took too long prolonging it by giving the day to day dating details of the H & h.I liked the twist but actually its a bit turn off for me.whenever the reason was it took me sometime to accept that cameron was right to see other woman. One more thing is epilogue seems good to be short and sweet giving us the final glimpses of the story here the author dragged it so long that i was like okkkk ...now can u show us the end sign please. As per the description i was expecting an intense love story but apart from the twist in the story it regular wooing ,courting few dates ,hot sex and finally falling in love and baam other shoe drops.so dont fall for the reviews and description its not as good as the synopsis makes it look.
