- Reviewed in Australia on 27 August 2022Verified PurchaseRuin is book four in the Black Hearts Still Beat series and it is an emotional ride.
When Levi was introduced in Rafe’s story, I knew I needed his story. He’s the character that puts on a good show but is quietly dying on the inside being tortured with his own memories, reliving his trauma and coping the only way he knew how. To drown out the noise and fall into his addictions.
Phoebe and Levi compliment each other nicely. She understands and sees him for the person he truly is. She sees the sadness in his eyes, the good in his heart and his worth even when he doesn’t think he is.
She falls for him, even knowing he might possibly break her. Phoebe is haunted by her own past. She lost her mum at a young age, has a emotionally and physically distant father and trauma from her first love loosing himself in his addiction. She knows loving an addict is one of the hardest things to do and she’s terrified but it’s too late, she’s already fell.
I love this story and I adored the way it was written. I also enjoyed seeing Hunter-Walker magic again.
4 stars.
I’ve decided to give this book four stars because of the spelling mistake that I came across. It doesn’t take away from the story but they are the type of mistakes that should have been picked up by the authors editor. I also wish we got to delve deeper into both of the characters backgrounds, break my heart a little more but that’s just me.
- Reviewed in Australia on 29 January 2021Verified PurchaseLike Levi’s addictions, this is such an easy series to obsess over. Beautifully tragic bad boys, angst, fantastic characters, easy five star read. Well written! 🖤🖤🖤
I loved Levi’s story. Dreaded turning the next page, hoping he’d survive his demons. He truly found his other half in his love hate relationship with Phoebe.
Looking forward to Hudson and Damon’s stories. I don’t think I want this series to end.
- Reviewed in Australia on 18 November 2020This is the fourth book in this Rock star series and I was genuinely curious and excited to see where this would go. The series follows the lives of band members from Black Hearts Still Beat. We already know Rafe Hunter, who spent a lot of his time looking after his brother Levi. Now we finally get Levi's story from his POV.
Levi Hunter, rock God, addict and fighting his inner demons is how we had come to know the front man of BHSB. He cannot help but get himself into scandals and trouble and now he has set his sights on the bands new intern Phoebe. She has already dealt with an ex that suffered from addiction problems and does not want to go down that road again. However, the front man is not used to being told no!
They had a great chemistry and you could tell that he wanted to be different for her, but the struggle with addiction is very real and they both knew there would be ups and downs no matter what they did. I loved seeing the layers come apart as Levi let more of himself shine in the belief that maybe he could find happiness if he just started to believe it himself. This is an amazing series, can't wait to learn more about the other band members. I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC and this is my honest review.
- Reviewed in Australia on 12 December 2020We get Levi’s story, learning more of why he is the way he is, Levi’s happily ever after didn’t come easy. Levi has always used drugs and alcohol as a way to cope, and it’s always worked no matter what the consequences.
With the betrayal from Riley going viral again Levi is put in the spotlight and PR is scrambling on how to fix it. This time Levi knows he made the mistake, and he needs to fix it no matter what the cost.
Phoebe knows she made a mistake with Levi, she can’t go through that again and should have known better, she wasn’t going to be put through the heartbreak again and would be professional with the band from now on.
Levi knows things are different now, he was set up, now he wants to try to be better and he wants Phoebe, but will she realise he’s changing now or keep pushing him away.
- Reviewed in Australia on 18 November 2020Levi is the quintessential bad boy rock star. He had a traumatic childhood that left him emotionally scarred and effected his ability to have positive relationships with anyone outside his tight circle. Levi’s an addict who is extremely volatile and unstable. He constantly makes bad decisions that negatively effect the band. But at the end of the day, he’s the charismatic lead singer that everyone loves so they makes concessions for him.
Phoebe has recently joined the tour as an intern and she am Levi have a connection. Unfortunately, Phoebe’s ex is an addict and she vowed never to go down that road again. Not to mention she’s an employee on tour with the band. However, Levi Hunter always gets what he wants.
Despite Levi’s flaws, he’s a loveable character. He’s a man child who has to be managed by everyone in his life but his inner monologue breaks your heart in a way you just can’t be mad at him. Phoebe challenges Levi to be better. She’s a fixer of broken things but after her ex she realises that has to let Levi do the work.
I really enjoyed this story even if I was on edge the whole time wondering how Levi was going to mess up. Even though Rafe is the more sane choice, Levi is definitely my favourite Hunter brother! I guess it’s like choosing Damon over Stefan (Vampire Diaries)
Ruin is part of the Black Hearts Still Beat series but can be read as a stand alone. I can’t wait for Hudson’s story which is the next book in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite Black Heart!!!
Verified Purchase“Sometimes you have to lose everything to realize what you had.”
This is one of my favorite series, and I love the boys of Black Hearts Still Beat. Rafe was always my favorite, until I read Levi’s story!!! Levi is a tortured soul, with a freakin messed up upbringing!! He has a hard time controlling his thoughts, they always turn to the negative. We learn a little about him and his addictions from Rafe and Eva’s story, seeing that he’s Rafe’s older brother. But in Ruin we get inside his head, and see what he’s truly battling.
Phoebe (Bee) is a great character and the perfect girl for Levi, or Leviathan. But their road is not easy. They both have pasts and she has a neglectful, but also over protective father... go figure. Plus she’s been through having a boyfriend with addictions and it still haunts her.
I loved Levi and Phoebe‘a story. It’s probably now my favorite!! I also love Letty!! She has been there and been supportive to them all. She can be tough when she needs to be, but she cares about them all. I want to see her have her happy ending too.
We have two more Black Hearts left, Hudson and Damon!! It looks like Hudson’ story is next, and I cannot wait!!!!! This author writes the best series, and the best stories!!! Also the very best characters!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bad boy of black hearts is back!!!
Verified PurchaseDamn!! She went and did it again. This is the fourth book in this series the first three revolved around Levi’s brother Rafe and his girl Eva. We got to see a lot of the bad boy Levi always causing some for of trouble. Well he’s back and causing more than ever until he falls for his girl and slowly joins the straight and narrow. But let’s face it, it’s Levi so it’s not going to be as smooth as it sometimes can be.
You will feel everything with this story and you will definitely want to slap someone by the end of it, not only that but you’ll want to bundle this bad boy in a hug and make it all go away. I cannot wait to see where this band of characters goes next 😍😍

4.0 out of 5 stars Deep & Dark Just Like Levi's Broken Soul!!💔😢
Verified PurchaseCan Love Redeem Them?🙏💘🔥😍
Ruin: The Reprise (Black Hearts Still Beat #4)
We truly learn the depths of the damage Levi has suffered at the hands of the one person who should have given him unconditional love. Instead he was beaten, hated & belittled at every turn!💔😭 His damage is deep & extensive & his self loathing is just as deep but can be find redemption in a love that's truer & deeper than his demons are buried?🙏
Phoebe has been burned by an addict before. Playing second fiddle to an addicts addiction nearly broke her & as strong as the connection between Levi & her is, she doesn't think she'd survive him!💔 Watching him lash out to hurt her and himself cements her choice. Then she's hurt & he becomes someone different. He's protective, vulnerable, honest & tender - this Levi she could help, support & love but if he falls off the wagon he'd have the power to destroy her!!💥
This is deep, dark & full of angst. I loved & hated Levi & I felt so bad for him.😢 Pheebs is both weak & strong, she understands herself & him so accepts that they need each other!💘 They all became a family.😍 I was disappointed with the amount errors in this book!😔

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect
Verified PurchaseShe does it again. L.A Cotton has me hooked from page to page. I knew from the previous books that this would be an emotional rollercoaster because it's Levi's book ... BUT it was a perfect emotional rollercoaster. Everything was written so perfectly, the story flowed just right and at the right pace. Cannot wait to see what Hudson's book has in store!
