Prince of Hearts: Nicco and Ari Duet #1 (Verona Legacy) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 852 ratings

An angsty college mafia romance from USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of the Rixon Raiders series.

Arianne Capizola is her father’s daughter.

Humble. Hardworking. Honest.

She’d rather spend her days helping at the local shelter than brushing shoulders with her vain and entitled classmates.

Niccolò Marchetti is his father’s son.

Dark. Dangerous. Deceitful.

He’d rather spend his days getting bloody in the ring than attending class and keeping up pretences.

When their paths cross at Montague University neither of them are willing to drop the walls they’ve spent so long building. But he can’t resist the girl with stars in her eyes, and she can’t forget the guy who saved her that night.

There’s only one catch.

Nicco isn’t Arianne’s knight-in-shining-armor, he’s the son of her father’s greatest enemy.

Heisthe enemy.

And their families are at war.

*Prince of Hearts in the first book in Nicco and Ari’s duet. Due to mature content that some readers may find distressing, this book is recommended for readers 18+

    I. AM.DEAD

    NICCO IS EVERYTHING!

Can you give more than five stars?

Because Nicco is worth so much more.

This modern day Romeo and Juliet romance was indescribable. I fell in love with Nicco and I fell hard.
This broody, dark man captivated my heart and made me gush like a school girl.
His protectiveness over Arianne was just magical and made you love him so much more.

Arianne was strong and determined and and I loved her she had this glow about her that called to you. While reading I felt her every pain and sadness I just wanted to hug her.

Their love was fairytale magic at its best. True stuff of romance because these two gosh these two couldn't be more perfect.
Their chemistry, their bond, their love was gut wreching in a way that had you sigh while reading.

Nicco had this dark side that pulled you in and no matter what you couldn't escape it. Not that you wanted to.
His charm was ten fold and you felt yourself smile at his ways.

This is a top read for me this year with no doubt. My fave book of L. A Cotton's to date and I don't know how she will top this serious.

I need book 2 like now because I need to know how Nicco will save Arianne how their love story ends and how their happily ever after starts.

This is nothing short of BRILLIANCE.

I could keep going because this book is PERFECTION!

    - Book Duet
    - New Adult
    - Mafia
    - Romeo / Juliet Feels
    - Family Rivalry

    *pls check the trigger warnings*

Arianne Capizola has been trapped in her families mansion since she was 14. After an attempt on her life, her father locked her away from the world. Apart from her best friend; Nora (the housekeepers daughter), she found herself very lonely & lost. She requests to her father that she can attend college as a "normal student" as the fake name; Lina. With Nora by her side, & her fathers approval, she gets to go to college & stay in a dorm. Experience being social, including going on her first date with her father's business partner's son; Scott. Unfortunately Scott isn't who he seems which ends up Ari having to escape his clutches, causing her to run into Niccolo Marchetti.

Ari has no idea Nicco is in fact her father enemies' son, & Nicco doesn't know that she is in fact Arianne Capizola & not "Lina". But as they connect straight away & Ari finds herself wanting Nicco by her side full time, the truth comes out. Leaving hurt along with it.

But with Ari & Nicco still wanting each other, no matter the circumstances, they start a secret affair where Nicco will do anything to ensure Ari is safe. Even if it means keeping her safe from his family.

This book does end on a cliffhanger & it left me needing to pick up the 2nd book of the duet straight away!

    4/5 stars with 2/5 steam.

Wow! This was super intense from start to finish. I have always loved Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, this modern day take with a mafia twist was absolutely fantastic. Ari and Nico are night and day, the beautiful innocent girl and the rough and dangerous boy that loves to fight and is doomed to live a life of organised crime paved out for him from generations past down.

Their families are sworn mortal enemies, controlling different sides of the same city and when these two star crossed lovers try and defy the odds, they learn the hard way that sometimes, love cannot conquer all. Be warned that this does end on a cliffhanger and there are some darker scenes that come along with a mafia romance. I can't wait to see how their story ends. I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC and this is my honest review.

They were never meant to meet.
They were never meant to want each other with a passion.
    But they did.
Arianne met Nicco are a date gone wrong and his voice makes her feel safe, but she gives him the name she’s using on campus, Lina.
Something about Lina draws him in wanting to protect her, Nicco knows she doesn’t know who he is, and he wants to keep it that way she’s not for his world, but he still wants her.
What happens when they find out about their families, will the feuding families ensure that they will never be together or accept that they belong together.
Does end on a cliff hanger can’t wait to read the next book.

I absolutely loved the Rixon Raider series, so when this book came through as a suggestion and I saw it was by LA Cotten I didn’t hesitate to download it, quick scan through the blurb which sounded right up my street, but even if it hadn’t I would have downloaded anyway from this writer! Oh Lordy I was not disappointed and devoured this book in one day, I’m now pulling my hair out waiting for the 2nd book, August please please hurry the hell up!! This is a modern day Romeo and Juliet and Ari and Nicco are the epitome of the star crossed lovers, I suddenly have a new appreciation for Shakespeare! I cannot wait to find out what the future holds for these two extremely likeable characters, I also really need Fascini to get his comeuppance, now I’m no Mafioso, but I need his demise to be slow and painful thank you please!! I’m hoping that Nora will also get her own story after Ari and Nicco, preferably with a certain brooding cousin, oh and then there Matteo, and Bailey, I really hope this is the start of a saga!! 🙏🙏

I received an ARC for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

HOLY CANNOLI! I have no words for how great this book was. Usually, young adult books are a miss for me. Still, LA Cotton wrote the best retelling of Romeo and Juliet, and I cannot wait to read the conclusion. The depth of betrayal, lies, deceit, falling in love, heartache, and losing one's innocence was written so well. I don’t know what took me so long to start reading this author's work.

Arianne Carmen Lina Capizola, aka Lina, has been kept hidden for the past five years at her parents' estate, hidden from the world. Lina is the daughter of Roberto Capizola and heir to the Capizola fortune. Her mother was able to convince Lina’s dad not only to let her go to Montague University but also to live in the dorms. Lina soon finds out that not all things are as she thought. After getting stuck in a sticky situation, a dark and broody stranger rescues her and turns her world upside down.

“It was that moment I realized Nicco was like a storm. He swept in without warning and disappeared just as quickly, with no regard for the wreckage left behind. I didn’t want to be wrecked by him. But much like the storm, sometimes it was impossible to escape. You just had to batten down the hatches and hope you survived.”

Niccolo Marchetti, aka Nicco, is the son of Antonio Marchetti and boss of the Dominion or better known as the New England Mafia. Nicco rescued a girl who captured his eye and maybe made him lose his mind. He can’t stop thinking about Lina, wanting to be around Lina. Though as he gets to know more about her, he also doesn’t want her too close. Nicco's world would destroy someone as innocent as her. Though as things progress, Nicco may not have a choice.

“I wanted Lina the way I’d never wanted another girl before. But I couldn’t be that guy. I couldn’t give her hearts and flowers and romance. I couldn’t be the prince she deserved, because my life wasn’t a fairytale. It was the stuff nightmares were made of.”

This book, oh this book is by far my favorite retelling of Romeo and Juliet. I enjoyed it so much. The writing was impeccable and believable. I could feel the pain, strength, and love that Lina went through during this short time. I loved experiencing her blossom and only hope she continues growing into her confidence. Nicco, oh boy, I don’t know if I would be able to handle Nicco. He is so protective of Lina but doesn’t want to hurt her. I admire that and loved how LA wrote him. I will also never be able to look at Tiramisu again, and you have to read the book to understand what I mean. Trust me! You would want Tiramisu rather than whip cream!

I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the conclusion to come

5.0 out of 5 stars A Modern Tale Of Forbidden Love
Reviewed in the United States on 2 June 2020

A modern day Romeo and Juliet tale told mafia style. Their love is forbidden, because their fates have already been decided. Nicco and Arianne will have to fight for their love.

She's been sheltered from her own life. Her father never wanted the past to touch her. Now her eyes have been opened and she needs to figure out who she is and what she wants.

Arianne has been kept hidden for five years. Now that she's eighteen, she wants some freedom. Her first semester at MU is going to be life changing. Her father has loosened his hold, but still has his own plans for his heir. Arianne just wants to be normal and have a real college experience, away from her father.

Between her cousin, Tristan and Scott, a family friend, she has her own personal guards. The only problem is Scott, because he has his own agenda and it includes her. He is not what he seems. A rich, privileged kid from a wealthy family that gives her the creeper vibes. He is in hot pursuit and NO doesn't seem to be a word that he understands.

Arianne's date with Scott gets out of hand, so she takes off only to run into Nicco. Her knight in shining armor is going to come to the rescue. However, he's not what he seems. Her rescuer is being bred to take over the family business and that business involves bloodshed. Their connection is immediate.

Arianne is naive. She has no idea who her father truly is. She's become his pawn since he has decided her future. She will have to learn to fight for what she wants and unfortunately, she'll lose something precious in the process. However, she'll also discover a strength she did not know she possessed and a love worth sacrificing anything to protect.

Nicco fell for Ari the moment he laid eyes on her. She was the end game for him. When they met, they had no idea of their's family's history or the bad blood between them. Now he's willing to do absolutely anything to keep her safe. He'll give up everything to keep her.

Ari and Nicco were never supposed to fall in love. Their relationship was forbidden, but their love could not be denied. Their chemistry sizzles. They are both willing to do whatever they can to be together. Losing each other is not an option. Their path is wrought with resistance and obstacles. The will need a plan that will that expose the truth to take down the bad guys, so that they can be together.

I look forward to the conclusion of this dramatic duet.

What a cliff hanger!!!! Why oh why????

    What an amazing read!!
    Full of heat and suspense!

Not overly smutty so you can actually appreciate the beautiful bond between the two MCs
My only gripe is that I would have liked more descriptions regarding how the characters actually looked like… we got a few descriptions but I felt like it wasn’t enough to actually build a character in my head! lol

Nonetheless it was a super super great ready the angst was angsting, the suspense was suspensing!
    I’m buying book 2 ASAP ✋🏻
