King Consort Kindle Edition
I had a carefully crafted womanizing persona to maintain. My life came with rules, all of which I broke when I couldn’t resist a one night stand with the enemy: A beautiful paparazzo with a heart of gold. He may be the only person who doesn’t want me for my title, and he can never be anything more than my secret.
But secrets have a way of coming out and not only will they scare him away, but they’ll lose me the crown.

About the author

Gray is a cynical Chicago native, who drinks coffee all day, barely sleeps, and is a little too fashion obsessed. He writes romance sprinkled with kink, and hot as hell, dark and angsty characters because everyone deserves a happily ever after.

- Reviewed in Australia on 24 May 2018Verified PurchaseThis story had a great take on the British Monarchy, hopefully in years to come. I really liked the love story that unfolded between Louis and Xavier, it was very sexy but had a lovely sweetness to it too. This is the first JR Gray book that I’ve read, and I’ll be looking forward to reading more.
- Reviewed in Australia on 15 May 2018With a Royal Wedding coming up I was looking forward to reading this book of a future king and his secrets.
Price Louis is known for his womanizing, but is that real or all for a show?
His hidden relationship with freelance photographer Xavier, it's one they are trying to keep out of the papers.
Louis and Xavier seem so perfect for each other, Xaviers honestly and privacy is so sweet and I was waiting for the moment when it was all gonna blow up and be so dramatic but they way it happened was well written.

5.0 out of 5 stars A royal romance.
Verified PurchaseFinally a royal romance that you want to read about! I love JR Gray's sense of humour and yes, Brit here so this book really made me laugh in places and also made me think that a gay royal is kinda cool so if there's one out there waiting to come out of the closet now would be a great time. I guess anyone who reads my reviews knows that I'm a fan of JR Gray and this book is a great addition to his work. Remember to look at his other books on his page and read them if you haven't already. You won't be disappointed. So from this Brit......GOOD ONE ME OLD MATE!!! Another five stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love a good royal romance
Verified PurchaseI love me m/m romance with royalty, and this was so enjoyable. I loved how Louie and Xavier both were immediately attracted to each other. And the circumstances where they met...What an interesting twist.
Louie receives basically an ultimatum by his grandmother the Queen. Complete this tour of Canada and come back to England to pick a bride and marry. Unfortunately for Louie, that prospect makes him hurt inside because he's gay. But duty calls, and he's been groomed on duty and country all his life. He and his sister Anne, who has had her own very visible personal problems, take off for Canada. While on the way there, Anne gives him what she thinks is a gift for him to let down his hair and shake off the mantle of responsibility for a night.
Xavier is a man who has held himself aloof from others due to a disfigurement. He is at the club that Anne and Louie attend, and immediately, despite the scars, Louie is attracted to him. It takes Louie a while to convince Xavier of that, but they end up together, back at Louie's hotel, also despite that Xavier is one of the dreaded paparazzi. Xavier is that rare breed, a paparazzo with morals and ethics. Louie takes a chance and for the first time, goes for what he wants rather than what he should do.
Rumors start to leak about Anne and the club, and ironically, it is Xavier that a prominent gossip site and show want to hire to tail the royals. Knowing that if he turned down the offer, people would be suspicious, he takes the job. The fact that it brings him back into Louie's orbit is serendipitous. And they spend time together, growing closer and closer, realizing the other one is "the one" and knowing that their time together has an expiration date.
I really loved this. Louis was a good and decent man, wishing he could live his own life, but knowing that he couldn't. It had to be him that received the crown, knowing that his sister wouldn't be able to handle the stress. And Xavier, he had such issues with his looks, and I loved that Louis didn't see any of that. He saw the whole man, and grew to love him. And who wouldn't. He was a good and decent man under all that gruff exterior.
There are fun times. The sex between them is hot, and their text messages where they would try to rile the other one up were hilarious. There's definitely times that my heart hurt for these guys, and the resolution for the conflict was an enjoyable one to find out. The secondary characters were great: Doug, Louie's security guy, Anne, the princess, and the Queen herself. Definitely the Queen.
I loved the epilogue, which let me know how they were both in such a good place.

1.0 out of 5 stars Give it a pass
Verified PurchaseGive this book a pass. The research must have been non-existent so far as how a royal family functions. As well, one of the main characters complains about being sent from Chicago to Montreal in the winter, then rides his bike around town--really? and spends hours sitting outdoors behind hotel back entrances.
The main characters have filthy vocabularies and are tiresome in other ways, like getting drunk, then complaining about hangovers. The overall premise is a good one-- a royal taking up with a commoner. Too bad it wasn't more seriously addressed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, easy read
Verified PurchaseLouis, prince, and in line for the throne, has an agreement with his grandmother, the queen. Once he returns from a visit to Canada, he’ll settle down, straighten up, and marry some nice woman.
The problem? He’s gay.
While on a side trip in the US, he meets Xavier, a member of the paparazzi, and they end up with a one night stand. Things get sticky when Xavier ends up covering Louis and Anne, Louis’s sister, visit in Canada at the request of one of the tabloids, and they begin a short time affair that blooms into more.
I enjoyed this one quite a bit. The royalty falling for a commoner trope is one of my favorites, and I’ve been binge reading it a lot lately. This one didn’t disappoint. It also got a bit more creative than some of them, with the commoner being a member of the paparazzi, able to predict where and when the other paparazzi were going to be. Or, what they’d be interested in, which is a plot point later in the book. Xavier is good at keeping them out of the public eye.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book and found it a fun, easy read.
