The Billionaire and the Burglar

Rate this book
I’d do anything for family...even trick my way into working for the grumpiest billionaire alive.

Balthazar Anders expects absolute control and obedience from his employees. Too bad he’s hired the wrong fake girlfriend. I’m actually an undercover burglar on a mission to steal from him.

And this rebel doesn’t follow orders.

When my sinfully gorgeous new boss whisks me away to a ten-star luxury resort, I’m supposed to protect him from threats while we act like we’re in love. We share the honeymoon suite’s only bed… and I discover he’s never owned a pair of pajamas. Gulp!

Resisting Balthazar’s growly commands gets harder by the second. Especially when the threat I’m here to protect him from becomes all too real. But if I don’t steal the thing I’ve really come for, my beloved family will be the ones to suffer.

Can I pull off my heist before he steals my heart?

The Billionaire and The Burglar is a swoony, steamy, grumpy/sunshine romance. It can be read as a standalone and has an HEA to leave you smiling.

“Well, have you considered not doing things that make people want to kill you?”
Omg😂😂😂

She gives me a little smile. “Was that a joke?” I deepen my frown. “This a serious job. I need a professional.”

“As a professional, I’m advising you to stay off as many hit lists as you can.”

I mean she has a point 🤣😂😂

Enjoyed the book, though I really thought the killer thing is going to be some big scary dramatic stuff but it just got wrapped up too soon, too fast.

A Surprisingly Fun Read!

So, I picked this up thinking, “Alright, another grumpy billionaire romance,” but wow—I was pleasantly surprised! This was my first time reading this author, and let’s just say I’m hooked.

What had me grinning:
I love the banter! A grumpy billionaire paired with an ex-burglar turned security consultant? The tension between them as their relationship progressed felt more and more real. It was a very nice surprise. Every time these two tried to be “professional,” they failed miserably—and it was hilarious.

One eyebrow-raiser:
The taekwondo and the fights were a bit questionable but hey, it's a book!

Conclusion
Overall, it had a good mix of romance, humour, and a bit of suspense. The plot flowed well, and I really enjoyed the dialogue. I’m definitely interested in reading more from this author.

This book is part of the Grumpy Billionaire Romantic Comedy series and the main characters are billionaire Balthazar Anders, who has just inherited the majority share in his father’s pharmaceutical company, and Scarlet Jones, who runs a security firm with her best friends who she considers as family, Jamie and Kayla. The three friends were all placed in juvie together and Aunt Alejandra was a lawyer at the time who helped get the other two girls out and then also Scarlet, who had no other family to be released to. They started their own security company with Scarlet focusing on security audits of people’s homes or businesses, Jamie is the personal protection officer, and Kayla is their computer expert. Aunt Alejandra called the girls over to tell them about some embarrassing naked photographs of her that Balthazar’s father took of her, and the fact they may well become public, which would destroy her chance of progressing to the next step from her current role as a judge. Balthazar had raised a court case about his father’s will, fighting against his father’s demand that all of his papers were destroyed after his death. What these papers contained, was something he definitely wanted to know, having had a very unhappy childhood and hating his father. He knew his father had done a lot of horrible things and he wants to see what is in there and use that information to get justice for those he hurt.

He feels guilty having never done anything while his father was alive to stop him, choosing to build his own separate business and becoming successful on his own. But his upbringing has deeply affected the person he is now and he doesn’t trust anyone and is quite rude and harsh with employees and staff, believing he is paying them to do a job and to do it right! His image is of a handsome man who always has a frown on his face, making him look quite unhappy and grumpy. Scarlet sets up a meet with his assistant, but not quite in the way you might expect, to try and gain access to his home and these secret papers. It seems he has already been having quite a few death threats from people obviously worried about their secrets coming out! He wants to hire someone to pretend to be his girlfriend at the upcoming board meeting, which is usually a week long junket, where he can annoy all of the board members and hopefully push one of them to try and kill him, like his father was. At the same time he will try to force some of the people his father worked with, to make amends for their past actions however much they don’t want to! What he didn’t expect was the colourful and feisty Scarlet, a curvy and gorgeous woman unlike any he has ever been with, who also doesn’t let him use his demands for obedience and absolute control over those who work for him, affect her whatsoever. She in fact seems to do the exact opposite of what he expects!

I loved how guilty Scarlet felt about how she got into the job opportunity and what she did to Melissa, plus her attempt to get into Balthazar’s home the first time round, in her search for her aunt’s photos. Now she has ended up after a test date, in the honeymoon suite of the resort hotel, with no option but to share a bed with the man she is getting far too attracted to and should hate from the rumours about him. She annoys him by calling him Billionaire Bob or Zar depending on whether she is trying to annoy him or not. She gets to know what his frowns mean and even invents meanings for all the different facial moves his brows make! Her aunt doesn't want her to do anything illegal to help her and is resolved to deal with whatever fallout happens. But Scarlet and her friends are only out of juvie because of their aunt and are happy to do what they need to get the photos and save her career and her reputation. The more time she spends with Zar, the more her opinion of him changes and she starts to see him in a new light and finds out how much he is trying to rectify his own father’s harmful work. Trying to resist him is getting harder and harder, even when Zar himself is trying to resist her as well, especially since she is his employee and he doesn’t want to be his father, who slept with all his female employees! Lots of sexy fun as the two start to fall for each other and the threats against Zar become all too real, as he continues to annoy the other board members, who are mostly family members as well.

This story has everything you could want from a romance and so much more! Weapons, martial arts, death threats, theft, lots of sexy moments you just can’t resist, and tons of new experiences giving Zar the enjoyment of watching Scarlet enjoy them. Nothing however will be easy, as Zar reacts badly to Scarlet revealing the truth of what she was with him for and they both have to live with the blowback! The only person Zar has to speak to is his sister Gaby, but she is in Australia, and with yet another betrayal he doesn’t feel like interacting with anyone! Lots of laughs as Scarlet doesn’t take grumpy, frown-filled Zar seriously, but also heartache as you learn of both their childhoods and find how much they actually have in common from their pasts. Loved the little gift of the watch and what it meant to him! An amusing read you won’t want to put down. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

1.5 ⭐️ 3/10. Scarlet starts to work for Balthazar’s personal security team, a billionaire, but she plans on robbing him. This first chapter had me HOOKED. I was thinking it was going to a super niche romance with not many but fantastic reviews that was going to blow me away. The entire first third of the book is set on one night and the plot in general is just… meh. I fought and fought with the urge to DNF but I carried on. Hoping it’d get better. But nope. It just got worse. There’s too much speech, the whole book is essentially a script and it just really flopped. The sequel has been removed from my TBR shelf. Sorry.

Author Hunter calls her latest a grumpy sunshine billionaire romantic comedy, but I would call it more of a second chance romantic story starring two people who don't realize that they need each other. The humor and clever dialogue makes this such a win for me.

The story starts on false pretenses when Scarlet cons her way into working security for Balthazar to steal some compromising photos for her aunt. Balthazar has a big mystery and he needs her help in solving it. Luckily, the chemistry is rolling through the two of them like a tornado in the Kansas, and clever Scarlet proves her worth.

"It’s insulting he thinks he needs to make that so clear. I have a perfectly good set of eyes, and a functioning brain. However large his personality flaws are, I can see he’s a thirty-six-year-old billionaire who’s been unfairly blessed with gorgeous looks and a body that could star in an ad for vibrators. He doesn’t need to pay a woman to get a date. Hell, I bet he doesn’t even need words. That surly grunt of his would probably seal the deal. Even knowing what a monster he is, something about the masculine roughness of it has given me tingles."

"Funnily enough, I don’t mind her springy steps when she’s walking next to me. At least she can keep up with my long strides. And she has an energy to her that’s anything but boring."

I adore how Author Hunter juxtapositions Scarlet's pov and Balthazar's pov through the chapters with a signature wit that immediately brings you into these characters' inner monologues. It's always a pleasure to read about a great female character who grew from adversity like Scarlet did. Her background is done just right, and I liked how Balthazar didn't begrudge Scarlet because of her background.

The mystery got pretty tense and the big reason Balthazar took Scarlet to a Board Meeting was pretty timely. It's something that could happen to anyone. While that was happening, the s$xual tension was ramping up too! I felt for both of them, but mostly Balthazar since he was so repressed.

My favorite laugh out loud lines:

" “Let’s just say we met at a party,” I say.
“Sure, okay. Because I was at a party of billionaires for some weird and unlikely reason.” Screwing her nose up, she shakes her head. “Or how about this? Maybe you borrowed your friend’s Lotus Esprit, but you couldn’t drive it, so you picked me up and I drove it for you. Then you took me to San Francisco on your private jet. We went to the opera and saw La Traviata, and I loved it so much I cried.”
I raise an eyebrow. “Isn’t that the plot of Pretty Woman?”

And finally, the wisdom Author Hunter writes that stayed with me. The best lines in the book for me. This is a conversation between Balthazar and his sister Gaby:

"“If you got run down by a train, would you stay on the track?”
“Yes, actually I would, if it meant enough to me.” She sounds thoughtful. “And next time you might be the one driving the train that accidentally runs Scarlet down. Then it’s her turn to forgive you and get back on the track. That’s how relationships work.”
“Let me get this straight.” I steeple my fingers, giving her my most severe frown. “You seriously think people stay in relationships because they’re too stupid to get off a train track?”
“They’re not stupid. They’re willing to forgive because they know it’ll be worth it in the end. Being run down makes them stronger, and it makes the destination better when they finally get there.”

That makes this more than a romantic comedy. It's a second chance story full of mistakes, sisterly bonds, frowns, growing, giving up the ghosts and starting over.

The Billionaire and the Burgler is a standalone romance by Talia Hunter. This is a new author to me, so I honestly had zero clue what I was getting myself into.

I had read the blurb and I was obviously intrigued enough that I had to read it myself. This felt like this could be an off-beat romance and I was ready to give it a whirl. I didn't expect to get sucked into the world of Balthazar and Scarlet as quickly as I did, but I was totally submersed by about chapter 5 and I just couldn't put my e-reader down. I hadn't expected to be so pulled into the action, the mystery and the whole rom-com side all at once.

Scarlet is the titular burgler (and the sunshine!), so she is really complex and interesting character. She has had a bit of a rough go of things, but she always lands on her feet. Scarlet has probably blurred the lines a little too much in her life for survival, but she is inherently a good person. She and her friends are also passionate about their security business and even justice. She is also extremely loyal to a fault, which is how she ends up targeting Balthazar Anders.

Balthazar Anders is the titular billionaire and he is delightfully grumpy (I love it!). He's also inherently a good person. Something that seems quite amazing considering that he came from wealth, and the fact that his father was a despicable, womanising man, who wasn't above keeping dirt and blackmailing (just to start with) just about everyone. In fact, Balthazar strives to be nothing like his father. With his father's death, Balthazar is wrapping up everything on the man's estate, after contesting the will so that he could ensure that his father's estate was dealt with more fairly. However, that has put him in danger. On top of that, Balthazar's father was murdered and that has placed Balthazar in danger as well.

This is where Balthazar and Scarlet's paths crossed, not unintentionally either. There is instant attraction. Scarlet has managed to get into Balthazar's employ as a security consultant, which is legitimate, but she also has her own personal investigation to conduct. These two have a complicated relationship and journey, despite their explosive chemistry. They are certainly two sides of the same coin, as much as they are similar they are also very different.

And as the story draws to a close... I adore that ending. Incredibly sweet and sexy and the perfect way to finish off all the action - both the danger and the rocky issues of the relationship.

The Billionaire and The Burglar is a swoony, steamy, grumpy/sunshine standalone romance. This riveting, engaging story will keep you enthralled, breathless and glued to the pages with danger, heat, love, healing, family, secrets and revelations. It was an easy but emotional read with so much heart, humor, laughs and touching / tender moments.

Scarlet and Balthazar are very sweet and heartfelt. These two are strong characters that held on their own. Scarlet is smart, witty ray of sunshine, sassy who always lands on her feet but she happens to be an ex burglar that owns security company. Balthazar is the titular billionaire who is delightfully grumpy and broody. He is a good person / man. Coming from a wealthy family, no one expects him to be decent human being or not to strive to be like his father which is why he is put in danger. These two have very complicated relationship despite their off-the-charts chemistry and flirty, sassy banter. Scarlet and Balthazar are very similar yet different. They challenge each other and make each other better. I love that they are real and natural. The pace of the story and fun cast of supporting – secondary characters added to their story and development / growth.

It is very enjoyable, well written and developed. The characters are complex, the plot is strong and the storyline unpredictable. If you love a rom-com with a dash of suspense, bodyguard, ex-con turned security expert, billionaire romance,grumpy/sunshine, struggles, challenges, a journey of self-discovery, forgiveness then this book is for you.

This was a grumpy/sunshine billionaire romantic comedy.

I loved this story of broken individuals with major trust issues. They had such terrible childhoods you can't help but cheer on their burgeoning relationship. The characters and story were extremely well developed. The story was heartbreaking, funny, steamy and heartwarming. Highly recommend! Must read!

Scarlett Jones owns a security company with her two best friends/roommates. She specialises in home security. Her father was a burglar and used to take her on jobs which later landed her in juvie and a youth home where she met Kayla and Jamie. She competes in Taekuondo.

Balthazar Anders is a billionaire venture capitalist. He is stern, grumpy, confident, cautious and reserved. He was raised by a string of nannies. His father was a predator who blackmailed almost everyone he knew. After his death Balthazar inherited a box of private investigator reports detailing the blackmail along with photos of women he preyed on.

Scarlett's Aunt Alejandra, a judge, is one of the women Mr. Anders took degrading photos of when she was young. The photos could ruin her career so Scarlett decides to steal and destroy them. She sets up a mugging in the early morning hours at the gym Balthazar's assistant Melissa goes to and conveniently rescued her. This gets Scarlett and interview with Balthazar for a bodyguard position. He plans to take over the chairman of the board position of his father's company by blackmailing his relatives with the info from the box of papers. He believes one of the relatives murdered his father. They go to a San Dante resort where the board meeting will take place to carry out his plan. They discover who killed his father and get their HEA.

I straight up devoured this book when I started reading it!

Scarlett Jones is a smart, witty ray of sunshine who also happens to be a ex burglar. She currently owns a security company with her two best friends Jamie and Kayla. When their Aunt comes to them with a problem, the ladies will do anything to help her out, even if it means dabbling back into the world of crime.

Scarlett sets out to help her Aunt and ends up (through a less than honorable way) face to face with Balthazar Anders. Balthazar is a grumpy billionaire with a reputation for being a jerk. He has recently taken over a pharmaceutical company from his father and as he is digging into his father’s shady dealings he is concerned for his personal safety. He also is in possession of some potentially embarrassing documents involving Scarlett’s Aunt. Scarlett gets the job as his personal security specialist…and also agrees to be his fake girlfriend for a few weeks. They end up in a swanky resort, in the single bedroom honeymoon suite - what could wrong?? Will Scarlett be able to steal from him while sharing his bed? Will Balthazar ever smile?

This is a laugh out loud romantic comedy and I absolutely loved the back and forth banter between Scarlett and Balthazar. I love a great grumpy/shine trope in a book - she even “names” his different types of frowns. While their relationship is rather complicated their chemistry is 🔥. Scarlett has such a great attitude and outlook on life and it starts to crack Balthazar’s grumpy shell. The ending was exciting and rather sweet. I also really loved the friendship between Scarlett, Jamie and Kayla. I can’t wait to see them in future books!!!

This book was so much fun!!

Scarlet and her two besties run a typical security company. The judge who helped rescue each of the girls from juvenile detention years earlier has a bit of a problem on her hands - an ex-lover from several decades earlier has died, passing his scandalous photos of her to his son, who is poised to take over the family business and isn't afraid to use blackmail if necessary. Scarlet is determined to find and destroy those photos. No matter what.

Balthazar sees his father's death as an opportunity to right all the old man's wrongs, or at least as many of them as he can. He's not above blackmailing the current board in order to land the CEO role in order to implement his sweeping changes. He doesn't know everything in his father's arsenal of evidence, but he's working his way through it all.

Part Stephanie Plum, part Vivian Ward, with a dash of Mona Lisa Vito, Scarlet is a real joy to read. She's always got another card to play and it's easy to see that Balthazar never really stood a chance against her copious charms. For his part, Zar is truly a good man, trying to use whatever resources he has available to do the right thing. He keeps his heart on lockdown, and never expected Scarlet to worm her way past his defenses.

The romance was so swoony, yet full of fun. Scarlet's smart mouth paired with Zar's dry wit gave us an effervescent courtship that defies the odds. Their HEA perfectly capped off their heartwarming emotional journey and I loved every bit of it. Highly recommended for anyone who loves rom-coms. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This is the first book that I have read by this author and it’s worth rereading. What a delight! Scarlet and her 2 besties from juvie run a security firm. Their lives have been shaped by “Aunt” Alejandra, a Circuit Court Judge, who “adopted” them. Their aunt is trying to retrieve some damaging photos from Balthazar Anders, the son of the man (now deceased) who shot the pictures. Scarlet maneuvers herself into his employment by deceiving his personal assistant, so that she can gain access to her aunt’s photos. Scarlet and Balthazar are 2 people who were either emotionally or physically abandoned by their parents, so both have major trust issues. As Scarlet tries to invade his personal space by offering security for his home, he counters her proposal with his own - be his bodyguard. By angering board members of the pharmaceutical firm that he now owns, Balthazar is confident that someone will try to kill him - the same unknown person who murdered his father.

I will offer no spoiler alerts, so readers can relish all the twist, turns and surprises, as Scarlet and Zar try to uncover who is trying to kill him. Not only that, but readers can relish the lively banter that the couple exchange as Zar’s walls of distrust begin to erode. The thrill seeking, optimistic, physically competent Scarlet with her red outfits and Doc Martens will undoubtedly be your favorite character. Zar, Bob the Billionaire, or “snuggles” will slowly charm you as he does Scarlet. There is more story and dialogue than there are steamy love scenes, which complement the structure of the novel. Can’t wait to read the next story about Jamie, Scarlet’s Amazon bestie.

Loving His Burglar . . .

Scarlet Jones is my kind of heroine. She is fun and doesn’t seem to take life too seriously. She deals with all obstacles brilliantly. Scarlet and her best friends, Jamie and Kayla, own a security company. Her ex-burglar skills come in handy on the job. Loyal to family, Scarlet is ready to help her Aunt Alejandra, a judge, who has a problem she cannot resolve on her own. There are some compromising photos of her in her younger days found by a billionaire as he went through his shady father’s papers. There is mention that he may have threatened to release them on the internet, possibly compromising her Aunt’s career. She needs to have them stolen back and returned to her to prevent that from occurring.

So Scarlet cons her way into working as personal security specialist for Balthazar Anders to gain access to the photos. In protecting him, Scarlet agrees to pretend she is his fake girlfriend and he takes her to an expensive luxury resort. They will stay in the honeymoon suite with a single bed – and Balthazar doesn’t wear pajamas! Will she be able to keep him safe? (And herself?) Can she steal the photos? Will he feel betrayed when she walks away? Is it too late for them to find their HEA?

The reader will definitely have plenty of laughs with this storyline. Scarlet and Balthazar are so good together, even when bickering back and forth. Despite their opposite personalities, those two just click! So grab your copy and enjoy the fun!

Scarlet Jones is an ex burglar who now runs a security company along with her three best friends. When her aunt comes to her with a problem only a professional thief can solve, Scarlet comes up with a plan. Balthazar Anders' father died unexpectedly, leaving him in charge of the company and his personal files, along with some pictures that would cause problems for Scarlet's aunt if they went public. His father was a very bad man and Balthazar is struggling to make amends for all his wrongs, making his own enemies along the way. When he meets Scarlet, she seems to be the perfect solution. She can pose as his plus one to a company retreat while also working as his bodyguard. It only makes sense for his security to share a room right? But their undeniable attraction causes a problem, especially since he's determined not to take advantage of the situation and be just like his father. They inevitably get together, but he doesn't trust easily and Scarlet's secret might be too much to handle.
I like that the heroine of the story is such a kicka$$ character, able to protect the strong man from his enemies. Balthazar is so serious and straight laced and it was fun to watch Scarlet bring color and sunshine into his life to see him really open up. I loved how she teased him by calling him billionaire Bob every time his entitled attitude started showing. This story had action, humor, and a lot of spice and I loved it.

Have you ever thought a billionaire was horrible? but in reality, he's a huge softy.

In the book "The Billionaire and the Burglar" by Talia Hunter, we see the beautiful and thought-provoking story of Scarlet and Balthazar. Scarlet is a security expert that also happens to be an ex-felon. She meets Balthazar, the grumpy billionaire while checking his home security. Balthazar has been suffering some criminal activities after he gained access to his late father's papers. Scarlet ends up helping protect Balthazar through this time, though she has other motives.

I truly loved this book. The style of writing, the plot and the way both characters are written are just *chef kiss* While Scarlets pasted is always in question, I think it would have been fun for her to have explained it more to Balthazar. She is complex and it felt at some moments Balthazar didn't recognise it. Balthazar is fairly complex as well. His childhood and the way he was treated was terrible. Scarlet should have told Balthazar a lot sooner, but completely understand it. Besides that, I loved this book.

This book has fake dating, found family, grumpy vs sunshine and billionaire.

There is some violence (stabbings) but that is all.

Thank you to Booksiren for this great read!!!!

Wow, little did I know that crime could turn to such wonderful all-embracing romance! This book was amazing, it made my laugh, swoon and filled my heart with joy.

Scarlett, along with her two best friends in the world runs a security company owned by the notoriously grumpy Balthazar. When they learn from their aunt (the backstory is included so I won't explain it all here) that she is potentially being framed by the notoriously grumpy billionaire Balthazar Anders, owner of a pharmaceutical empire. The girls decide they are going to steal the photos he is threatening to frame her with but to do that they need access to his mansion. After manufacturing an opportunity Scarlett becomes Zar's new personal security detail.

The story is brilliant. We get plenty of character development, some great banter, a well developed and thought out plot - someone is trying to kill Zar and Scarlett is helping him to try and discover who - as well as a wonderfully slow burn romance. It was a refreshingly different billionaire love story and I devoured it.

The Billionaire and the Burglar is a steamy, slow burn, grumpy-sunshine, fake relationship, opposites attract romantic comedy. Scarlet is a smart, sassy, and beautiful former burglar turned legitimate security business owner. Balthazar (Zar) is a hunky, grumpy billionaire with a soft side. When he inherits a lot of blackmail information from his late corrupt father, who is brutally murdered,he hires Scarlet to act as his fake girlfriend. She will be his personal bodyguard and help to find out who killed his father. Scarlet has her own agenda and wants to steal back some information that could harm one of her loved ones. What the two don't expect is to have this insane attraction and fall in love. But both parties have trust issues. What will happen when Zar finds out the truth? Will they make it? The banter between them was hysterical. I laughed so hard a few times that I couldn't breathe. And the chemistry was insane! After some mystery solving and angst, we do get a great HEA. I absolutely loved this book. It has been added to my Kindle favorites folder to be reread.

This terrific romcom starts with Scarlet and her two friends running a security company. When the aunt has issues with some pictures, she vows to get them back. Scarlet gets into the security area for billionaire Balthazar and things really start to get interesting. The characters are terrific, with great backstories, determination, great banter, and chemistry. The storyline is so enjoyable as they start with a fake relationship while she protects him - and maybe she can find those pictures. The nicknames, comments, entertaining situations and inner dialogues are hilarious. Loved how they worked together, opening each other up to new ideas - like adding color to his home, and even back to her old habits as in the Rolex of his uncle Orson. The trip to Australia really opens up the future for them. Totally enjoyed this story.

Everything included for a fun read

After being in trouble as a teenager Scarlet Jones is now (mostly) a law abiding citizen running a security company with her two friends. In an attempt to recover embarrassing photographs of her aunt taken by Anders Senior, now deceased, Scarlet wangles her way to becoming security advisor to his billionaire son Balthazar Anders. She plans to search his house and relieve him of the photographs, instead, after several threats on his life, he employs her as his body guard.

A case of opposites attract. Scarlet, poor and optimistically happy and Balthazar, billionaire, mistrusting and abrasive. Yet another fake girlfriend plot, but this includes ninja moves, threats of murder, blackmail, actual bodily harm and exotic locations. Not to be taken too seriously, all the ingredients for an amusing read.

An entertaining rom-com with a HEA.

Love the burglar – she is a hoot! New book and author for me, which I loved. This is about billionaire Balthazar and burglar Scarlet. She initially helps someone out, but it’s staged to get her to trust her and introduce her to her billionaire boss. Scarlet is a retired burglar ever since her adopted aunt helped her see what is right from wrong. Now her aunt is in trouble as Balthazar’s fathers’ documents that he inherited contain some incriminating pictures of her that can ruin her career. The story is funny as she is too much, and the chemistry between them is something else. He tries to keep the distance, but in the end – they both fold. There is mystery (who did it) as someone is trying to kill him, and she of course is there to protect him, but he won’t let her.

This was a nice and fun story, it reads very fluently and is very engaging. When you start reading you want to know what happens next and I like that in a story. It was my first book by Talia and I’m happy I discovered this book and this series. I’m already curious to read Jamie’s story.

I loved the grumpy- sunshine aspect of this story. Balthazar or Zar was the typical grumpy, wealthy billionaire who ‘s searching for some happiness in his life. Scarlet had a rough upbringing but still finds the best in life, she’s colorful and full of sunshine. Together they make the perfect couple, they had some strange encounters and there was a funny plot twist which was hilarious. I really enjoyed this story!

Scarlet and Balthazar

Honesty is definitely always the best policy. No, it not always easy to be honest, but it's so much better than the alternative. I admit to lying. Who hasn't lied? But doing so has almost always gotten me into some sort of trouble. When the truth gets me in trouble, at least I don't have lies on my conscience.

If only Scarlet had been honest with Balthazar rather than trying to steal from and then succeeding at stealing from him, he would have at least respected her honesty. I'm sure he still would have been hurt, but at least he would have been able to better prove to Scarlet how much he lives her by giving her the pictures. Doing so would have ruined the point of Scarlet being a burglar, though, so it all works out for the best in he happily ever after end.

I like the beginning of the book more than the end. I think it started off well, and then just sort of went downhill for me. I liked the MMC more than the FMC. I was getting annoyed by the FMC every time she tried to sleep with the MMC. The FMC was providing security detail for the MMC. The MMC was into the FMC, but wanted to wait until her assignment was done. At some point, the FMC said she quits working for him, so she can sleep with him. However, they are on a trip where they’re still threats to the MMC. Also, they break into somebody else’s hotel room. The FMC wants to have sex in a closet in the hotel room and then just says don’t worry about not having a condom. The FMC is upset with herself for not being able to prevent the MMC from getting stabbed twice. But at the same time, she wants to quit working for him in the middle of a job so she can sleep with him.

Scarlett will do anything for those she loves and her 'aunt' needs her help. She may have left her life of crime behind her, but she is willing to do one last hit for those she loves. What she doesn't expect is to accept a job as a fake girlfriend for evil billionaire Balthazar Anders. But if he is so evil, why is he doing so much good, and why does her heart skip a beat?

This is a laugh out loud rom com with death threats and a murder mystery included.

Steamy, romantic and surprising emotional at times, this is a great read and I can't wait for the next book in the series. (Standalone focusing on a new couple in the same world).

4 1/2 *s. New to me author hit it out of the park with this swoony, hot, mystery/rom com. Scarlet a reformed (mostly) burglar arranges to get a job checking his security with ulterior motives.
He hires her as a bodyguard and she has to pretend to be his girlfriend. It all goes wrong and they fall for each other. She saves him from 2 attempts on his life, they discover the people out to murder him but with her secrets it is about to come to a bad ending.
Great plot with well developed characters both Scarlet and Zar were interesting and have major trust issues but for the most part act like adults.
This book was totally cute, entertaining and funny. He is grumpy she is sunshine, can this match ever work?

Although I'm not so convinced she's the right fix for security, she's bold with a few tricks up her sleeves and gives it her all. I love the concept, it's adventurous and has it's comical moments so it made me tense and made me smile. The bond and determination of the burglar and her "sisters" in "crime" as they rise above and how they love and support one another through thick and thin is great and I look forward to reading more about the supporting characters. The Billionaire plays his part very well, opposites attract, everything else that they were discovering outweighed their romantic crescendo. Fun read.
