The newest sizzling romance from Audrey Carlan, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Calendar Girl series.
Twice my life changed in a single day.
The first was when I lost my parents. Hand in hand I walked with my big sister up the steps of Kerrighan House, a foster home for girls. We were lucky to be met with open arms and a house filled with children just like us. Children who’d lost everything. From that day forward, we were raised as one big family. Our bonds of sisterhood were strengthened through shared experience, pain, sacrifice, and love. Sisters not by blood, but by choice.
Soul sisters.
The second day my life changed was on the worst day of my adult life. My boyfriend broke up with me via text. My sleazy boss hit on me, forcing me to quit a job I desperately needed. And the cherry on top, was getting pulled over by an FBI Agent. Little did I know, he’d also save my life that night.
From the moment we met, Agent Fontaine wouldn’t dare let me out of his sight. And between his alpha ways, kind brown eyes, and heroism, I was lost to the man who hid behind his job. But this agent had a rule: never fall for a woman you’ve saved.
Yet I wasn’t just any woman. I was known among my sisters for taking risks and dreaming big. I was the wild child of the group. We were raised to appreciate every day as the gift it was, and not let anything stand in our way. The more I got to know the brooding, serious FBI man, the more I realized maybe it was my duty to save him.
OMG This book made me smile so much. An amazing love story with just the right amount of suspense. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are some types of stories that I just can’t abide and one of them is when a female character is just wild, crazy, overly chatty. I thought that this is where this book was headed. But I was wrong. And I’m so happy I was wrong.
The author completely took this book in another direction with grace and uplifting undertones. The story has a lot of tragedy to it. It has suspense and shocking crimes. But it also has an amazing gift of light, happiness, support, and amazing love.
When Jonah and Simone meet it’s under extremely unusual circumstances. But the fire and explosion between them start almost from the beginning.
I just love their connection. The fire and energy between them are simply amazing. I love how they are perfectly balanced and sparks fly every time they’re in the room together. The author hits it perfectly! So much so you can almost feel that energy coming off the pages.
But this is a suspense story. Jonah is an FBI agent and is actually chasing a murder suspect. And tragedies happen. But his protectiveness and love know no bounds.
This book really blew me away. Wild Child left me with a huge smile on my face with their perfect love and the author’s amazing ability to bring peace through the pages even through tragedy.
While this may be the first book I’ve read by this author, trust me, I’ll be looking for more. And I really can’t wait for the rest of the story of these foster sisters.
Don't Miss Out, It's Free!!! 4.5 What's Important Stars * * * * 1/2 Spoiler Free When someone learns in an instant their life can change, it can set them on a path of valuing every moment and situation after...Simone and her sister learned this lesson when their parents died in an accident. The one thing that was a blessing was the luck of their draw...The Kerrigan House was available to take them in and would guide them and support them.
The beauty was the other girls in the house. Simone learned these other girls would become more...soul sisters and the family she wanted.
Years later another instant happens bringing her FBI Agent Fontaine. Simone was having a day from hell and when this man stepped up, it would be life-changing for her and for him. Because by saving her at that moment, it would cause Simone to start to save Jonah.
This was a romance with a capital R and a significant dose of suspense. All of it was handled with care and pulled you in. You want to know more and this couple works. This is the start of a new series and each entry will focus on another Foster Soul Sister.
Rare is the day that I read the synopsis of any book before I jump in, especially when you put a cover like this in front of me. The cover sold the book but the synopsis, that captured my heart and mind instantly. And you know what? The story never let go one single time! Well done!!
Jonah and Simone jump off the pages with their chemistry and connection. They were a perfect fit for one another, and it made me so darn giddy to read. With all the suspense twirling around them they added a level of depth to their connection that put me in awe because it was flawless.
This is a story that should surprise you, but maybe not as much as some of us who read the book advance its publication because now you have reviews. I didn’t see the glorious romance cloaked in suspense coming at all. Yes, I read the synopsis of the book, but the in-depth greatness is not spelled out there. Not even close. This story has tragedy coming at the reader from all directions, but it also has hope, man does it have hope! Audrey Carlan spun a tale of family, love, tragedy, heartbreak, sacrifice, sisterhood, and hope :) It is a perfect blend of all the things and then some.
My only other experience with this author has been her Biker Beauties Series end of last year/ early this year and if I’m being honest, the style and voice she poured into that series was not something that blended well with me and she really wasn’t on my radar after that but then this cover swan across social media and as you read above, the rest is history. This style and voice I can 100% get behind :) and I have! I watched a video the author posted about this release and she talked a bit about the book and how it was a shift back to her grassroots (I’m not 100% that’s the exact word she used but it’s close to it lol) and let me just say that after hearing that, I spent a stupid amount of money downloading her backlist! SO, go forth and enjoy this thrilling suspenseful romance journey! It’s worth every penny and minute you invest! #TRUST
Wild Child, an all-new sizzling and captivating romance from #1 New York Times bestselling author Audrey Carlan is available now!
RELEASING NOV. 2nd!! The countdown is on for readers to meet Simone and Jonah in WILD CHILD! Here’s a sneak peek... *** Jonah led me to the line for the Ferris Wheel. “Would you kiss me again at the top of the Ferris Wheel?” I asked as we showed the operator our wrist bands for all access. Jonah’s lips pursed together. “Maybe.” “Maybe?” I harrumphed. We settled into our seat and the ride started its stop and go procedure letting people on and off for the next few minutes before it really started to move. “Are you always this forward with men you’re attracted to?” He cupped my cheek and held my chin with his thumb and forefinger. I licked my lips and watched his eyes dilate at the sight. “Yeah, if I want something, I ask for it. You don’t get anything in life without asking for it, working hard, and sacrifice. The worst that could happen is you say no.” I shrugged one shoulder. He leaned close enough that I could feel his breath on my face. “And what would you do if I said no?” “I’d be sad, but I’d try to respect your answer.” “And if I said yes?” He grinned. “Then I’d kiss the heck out of you right now,” my voice was breathy and needy. “Ah, but you asked me to kiss you, did you not?” “Are you going to kiss me?” I whispered. He smiled. “Yeah Simone. I’m going to kiss you. I’m going to kiss you until you forget where you are. I’m going to kiss you until you forget all that has happened these last couple days. And I’m going to kiss you so that the only thing you can remember going forward, is the taste of me on your tongue, and in your mouth. Then I’m going to do it all over again. Romance, suspense and the hunt for a serial killer had me enthralled from the very beginning! She gave us a gorgeous FBI leading man too...loved it!
A thrilling romantic suspense about finding love and suffering loss, but at its heart its about strong women, second chances, and the family you make. This was my first book by the author and I cannot wait to read more, especially of this series.
Simone never expected that a routine stop for gas would put her within the sights of a serial killer. It’s an urban legend come to life because we are always told to check the back seat. The man that saves her will become her hero in more ways than one.
Jonah works for the FBI as a criminal profiler. He’s been hunting the Backseat Strangler for months. He’s just thwarted the killer’s most recent attack, but the Strangler wants Simone. She may have escaped this time, but he’s not giving up.
Jonah is determined to keep her safe at all costs, he just never expected to want more. He’s attracted to Simone and fascinated by her outlook on life. The woman he is supposed to keep safe, quickly becomes the woman he never wants to let go.
An all encompassing thrill ride in the quest to catch a serial killer, all the while falling in love with your other half. They meet under crazy circumstances, but finding each other is exactly what they both needed. I enjoyed witnessing their relationship develop and the start of a life they both deserve.
I love romantic suspense and this one definitely delivered. The tension was sexy. The dates were sweet and romantic. The fall was HOTTTT! I thoroughly enjoyed this book, even when the author threw us a twist and made me cry. Simone comes from a close-knot family of strong women and that was one of my favorite things. Plus there were such great secondary characters that you will get to know and love. I will be looking forward to the next book in this series.
This started off so well, but it started to drag for me a bit throughout. I liked the relationship for the most part. Jonah and Simone were good together and I liked the way their relationship progressed. The best part of this book for me was the relationship between the sisters and Mama Kerri. They had a bond that was amazing to read about.
What didn’t really work for me was the way the mystery behind the killer was handled. Some of the things he’d done really didn’t seem accurate or was there for the shock factor. Simone came off like a manic pixie dream girl in a way and it kind of irked me.
I’m on the fence about my feelings on this one. I do want to pick up the next book because I'm interested in Addison's story.
I love all books that have an element of suspense and criminal thrill. Audrey Carlan does this effortlessly in Wild Child while maintaining her signature romantic eroticism! I love her introduction of the Sisterhood and felt attached to all of the Soul Sisters. A must read!
Wild Child is the best romantic suspense of 2020 and is the perfect escape to get lost in. From the first chapter you will be blown away and your heart will be beating wildly in your chest. Just wait until you meet the sexy, protective, can I please have all his babies - FBI agent Jonah Fontaine. He made me sweat as much as he made me swoon. As soon as he met Simone with her big personality and beautiful eyes that showed you her amazing soul, he was hooked and so was I. The way Jonah always had to keep her close and every time they touched it was electric. They grounded each other in the most beautiful way. This couple needed each other as much as they wanted each other and it was magnificent to watch them fall in love.
Simone has a biological sister and foster sisters who are fantastic - her soul sisters and loving foster mama are her whole world. You will fall in love with each of them for different reasons. They would do anything for each other and it’s breathtaking to watch. I wanted to be their sister by choice too. With sisterhood like that, you know you’re never alone. You need to read this book for the hot FBI guys, the soul sisters, the pictures, the Ferris wheel, the books and the chase alone. Audrey Carlan this story is a perfect blend of everything I love about all your stories rolled into one. Wild Child will captivate you as you take this thrilling journey of heartache, forgiveness, hope, sacrifice, friendship, sisterhood and life changing love.
I'm having a hard time rating this book.. I don't wanna criticise it cuz it was nice but it felt way too over the top.. The heroine's antics n behavior felt too dramatic, like a high-pitched song sung wrong.. The premise says that the hero is an alpha male but I never saw that raw alphaness from him.. I picked up the book mainly to see this alpha behavior but it was tame at best.. The hero takes the heroine to meet his mom on the first date n she didn't even freak out.. She was like way too easy over the whole thing as if its the norm for a guy to introduce a girl he just met, to meet his family.. That was too cheesy.. The whole family n their bonding felt way too sugary sweet n understanding.. They were a foster family that too.. It felt like looking through rose-colored glasses.. It lacked spice n depth.. Even the road blocks that sprung up, that didn't dig deep into the emotions.. I think it was all in the writing... It has to suck readers in every which way.. This book failed to do that..
P. S. - I just wanna add that this book wasn't bad but it was missing certain prime stuff that intrigues us in a romance..
Do you love a book that grabs your attention from the very first page? Do you love a book that is so unpredictable you just have to keep reading to see how it ends? This is one of those books. Be prepared to want to read this book in one sitting. This is a book you will want to devour whole. The main characters Simone and Jonah have such an amazing chemistry that is felt from the very start and at times they are sizzling to the point I checked to see if my kindle app was on fire. Did I mention Jonah is an FBI agent and an alpha male? Not only does he want to save Simone but he needs a bit of saving too. These two will leave you swooning and wanting more!
Simone also has a group of sisters as she was in foster care. She has one biological sister and several other foster sisters. The bond that all the sisters share is just truly amazing and it is something I feel every woman needs! Soul sisters for the win!!!
This book is heart pounding and heart stopping all at the same time. From the heart pounding suspense and not knowing what’s going to happen next to the heart stopping and skipping beats and stomach somersaults of Simone and Jonah’s connection, this book takes you on a ride.
So buckle up, grab some tissues and maybe some popcorn. This is a book you do not want to miss. Absolutely hands down the best book of 2020 by far.
From the moment you pick up this book you fall in love with Jonah and Simone the chemistry between the two leaps of the pages to the point you can’t put it down. Audrey gives you all the feels you want and more this story keeps you on the edge of your set with all its twists and turns and the heat has you coming back for more. A most read for any true romance reader!
Simone is an independent woman who works three jobs.
Jonah is a sexy FBI agent at the right place at the right time. He's swoon worthy & all man that you will want him for yourself.
Simone & Jonah met in an unconventional way but you can't help who you fall in love with.
I love the sisterhood & support that Simone has with her sisters raised by their foster mom Kerri. Simone is so used to being on her own that she didn't know that she needed someone to love as a partner. She found something in Jonah that she couldn't let him go.
I connected with Jonah with everything that he went through. His job was his life until Simone came barging into it & winning her way into his heart. He had a heartbreaking past but he didn't let it control his life.
Simone & Jonah found something in each other that they didn't know they needed.
This book was beautiful & dug into my soul because I could relate to the characters. I felt the pain & love throughout the story. It was a great suspenseful love story that will make you scream & cry at the same time. What an amazing book!!
Wow just Wow!!! This book was such a roller-coaster of emotions. Simone and Jonah meet under unusual circumstances but their connection is undeniable!!! Off the charts Hotness, I wanna be in a Jonah kiss haze myself!! The strength of love and sisterhood within the story is epic and everyone should be so lucky to have a circle like theirs. It has just the right amount of suspense to keep you hooked from the 1st page until the end!! Hands down one of my favorite Audrey books!!! Sister you Rock!!!! Now give me more!!
DNF @ 53% I tried, I really did. This was just too much. Too many useless details. Too many sisters and too many occasions they were all involved in. Too many cheesy, eye rolling moments and too many things were just wrong when it came to police or.FBI procedure. The good news? It was free.
Absolutely enjoyed this book. What a wild ride. Everyone definitely needs to read this. I didn't want to put it down once I started. Loved every part of it. Way to go Audrey
I am already obsessed with their series and it's only the first book! I looooved Simone and her loving band of sisters. I adore books that focus on (chosen) family and the importance of family bonds and this did just the trick. And as you all know, I have a thing from romantic suspense, and this just couldn't be more perfect. I'm obsessed with Jonah and his protectiveness and obvious love for Simone.
Right from the very start #1 New York Times bestselling author Audrey Carlan lets you know you’d better buckle your seatbelt and grab the oh shit handle! She floors it in “Wild Child” with a heart-stopping, panic-inducing, opener that will have you turning the pages and putting it into Park for an all-nighter! You just won’t want to put it down!
But ladies…let’s shift gears shall we? This is Audrey Carlan…and we all know AC brings the heat. The heroine of this story Simone Wright-Kerrighan is the quintessential “wild child.” Simone works multiple jobs while studying for her degree. She’s a Jill of all trades, but a master of none, living her life to its fullest. And when this curvy, vibrant blonde is thrust into the dark, dangerous world of FBI Officer Jonah Fontaine, the plugs are hitting on all cylinders! Sparks fly! Panties melt!
The softer side to this story, the first book in the “Soul Sister” novels, is that after the tragic death of their parents, our Wild Child and her sister by blood Sonia, grew up in the loving foster home of Mamma Kerri, along with six other foster sisters. Wild Child (Soul Sister, #1) is just the start of this beautiful series in the lives of the young women raised in the Kerrighan house. “Sisters not by blood, but by choice.”
This book was full of love and light and heat...also of danger and darkness.
Simone is someone we can all learn from. Yes, bad things happen...no, we should not let that dictate how our lives will go. There is almost always a silver lining, you may just have to work harder to find it. I love that this character is hardworking and determined. She doesn't let people run her life for her, she makes her own way. She is strong, caring, effervescent, and loyal. I love the relationship she has with her family.
Fate brought FBI agent Jonah Fontaine crashing into her world and nothing was the same after that first moment. In a sense, each saved the other. They had a connection that went beyond hero worship into everything real...everything neither knew they needed until the danger brought them together. I enjoyed reading how the relationship grew. I love how each of them was willing to give the other what they needed and how in tune with each other they were. I really loved the banter between the two.
Only thing that kept this from a 5 star read for me was how fast the climax came and went. For the build up, I figured there would be more action to it...more they had to go through to get the bad guy...it just felt a bit rushed. But, I truly loved the epilouge.
OMG hands-clapping for Audrey Carlan girl you have written one of the best stories that I have read in a very long time.
Ladies and gentleman let me tell you about Simone and Jonah, also let me tell you I will not spoil it for you. But this book is full of determination, strength, courage, lust, suspense, laughter, undeniable and uncommon friendship. Let me just say that I was not even able to finish reading this whole story before I was writing out my review. I must say that I am already a little upset because I know that this will come to an end soon. Sometime we must not be afraid to live out-loud, and open to change. Sometimes when we least expect it to happen just when you feel like omg, my life is crazy the greatest thing happens when you are not looking for it to happen. You have someone like Simone who is hardly holding her life together and along comes Jonah who appears to have lost his direction. This was a very well written book from the start to finish. There was so many WOW moments for me and let’s just. You all better read this you will love it just as much as I did.
Wild Child is an incredible heartfelt story with drama, suspense, family and love. This book blew my mind. Ms Carlan has incredible talent in the way she has written such a compelling, intriguing but also unputdownable book. This is without a doubt one of her best books to date. I honestly have to pick up my jaw particularly since the story caused a myriad of emotions. I felt for the characters and what they go through. There is so much in this book to hook you in. I loved Simone. She was an absolute breath of fresh air. An incredibly caring, strong willed woman who would do anything for those she loves. Meeting Jonah in a particularly stressful time, brings her some hope. Jonah may be an FBI agent but there is definitely more to this man than his good looks. The slow burn is wonderful and their chemistry is undeniable. There may be some harrowing and heartbreaking moments but you come to learn that a family bond is stronger than you think. Wild Child is an absolute winner and a definite must read!
Audrey Carlan nailed it with this book! The chemistry, suspense, and family bonds make this book one of a kind! Simone and Jonah meet in a very unexpected way that was the icing on the cake after an absolutely horrible day for Simone. The events that take place after will have chills running down your spine. But the passion between Jonah and Simone will warm you right back up again. While the relationship between Jonah and Simone was more than enough to keep me flipping page after page, the bonds between Simone and her foster sisters was so heartwarming! The bonds of sisterhood are an amazing thing and I absolutely adored the unity between them all. While I love a great romance, this story gave me something even better. I still got my romance, but the family bond between Simone and her Mom and sisters filled my heart to overflowing! Thank you to Audrey Carlan for writing such an inspiring story!
*I received a free audiocopy of Wild Child. This has in no way influenced my voluntary review which is honest and unbiased.*
So, the story here is around 3 stars for me, but the narration is only 2. The narration was very choppy, at times, it sounded like a robot reading the story, and that's not at all what I look for when I listen to a story. I tried switching the speed up in all different ways, but it was still choppy and strange, with few differences in voices which also made it difficult to know which character was speaking.
The story itself is pretty straight-forward in some ways, it's like a romantic suspense / comedy, I guess, and it didn't work as well for me as I would have thought it would. I'm guessing it might be better in reading, though. Because we have a fun young woman saved by a hot FBI agent, and then, romance, and some funny stuff ensues.
DNF for now. Might come back to it later on… but right now I just couldn’t seem to enjoy this insta-love, and I mean insta — no exaggeration. They’re literally kissing and being affectionate and all the day after they met. I cannot.
I've been waiting to read this book. I'm so excited to finally read it. Wow what a book definitely took me on a emotional rollercoaster. Towards the end I found myself crying. One because the love between Jonah and Simone second my heart was breaking for the sisters. Its been a few weeks since a book grabbed my attention this one did it from the first page. Definitely a series everyone should read.
Wi Child by A. Carlan is the first book in her new Soul Sister Series. Wi Chi can easily be read as a stand-alone. This is Simone's story. Simone and her seven sisters, by blood and by choice were growing up under the loving care of their foster mother. Simone and her blood sister Sonia are close, but Simone wants to make it on her own and is reluctant to accept help. Let's just say, she works three jobs to make ends meet and goes to college. So. Jonah is a FBI Agent and both meet under special circumstances. She's immediatedly drawn to him. But he has some issues to work through. Simone's character is like a breeze of fresh air. She's honest to a fault, open, loving, a great character and impossibly not to love. Wi Chi is a fast paced, action packed pleasurable read, a typical AC book and I mean it in the best way possible. Reading one of her books is always like coming home. A great read, I loved just everything about this first in a new series, 4,75 stars.
From the first chapter of this book I was hooked! You want this book in your kindle and on your shelf. I could not put it down. I wanted to desperately know more and delve deeper into the story of Simone and Jonah. Audrey Carlan is magical in the way she weaves romance and suspense in the beginning of this new series. There are twists and turns that keep you guessing and hoping that it won’t turn out for the worse, and that just makes you read, read and read more.
I found myself identifying with Simone and wanting her to be part of my family because she is genuine, carefree, but so loving and caring. She is the epitome of the type of sister that I would love to have. She is a fighter and even though she is dealt some pretty heavy and tough situations she is able to fight and overcome.
Jonah Fontaine is rugged, sexy, powerful and seriously protective of this girl he meets by chance. You immediately want Jonah to envelop you in all his serious sexiness and care. He is a man you want in your corner.
Of course I wanted everything to run smoothly towards a happily ever after, but the obstacles that both Simone and Jonah have to go through make the story that much more rich. It gives you an even greater desire to see these two overcome it all.
Audrey creates this world in Chicago with Mama Kerri and her chicklets that you continue to be intrigued about. Eight sisters that all grew up together from all different walks of life give us a beginning to a world that is going to be epic in my opinion. I love everything that Ms. Carlan writes because she writes from the soul and her words touch my soul. I found the theme of sisterhood prevalent and weaved into the storyline perfectly. There are so many strong women that the books to come will no doubt make me fall in love again and again.
I haven’t read too many romantic suspense books, but with Audrey’s take on the matter I seriously want more. I am wondering and hoping for another book pronto in this series because all those sisters are intriguing and have their own stories to tell. I truly loved this book and gobbled it up so quickly. You too will enjoy it no doubt.
The Kerrighan house was a savior to 8 foster girls growing up. These girls all became close, they were not blood sisters but they loved and treated each other like they were sisters. Simone, the free spirited, no filter, confident, independent one of the bunch has found herself in a very unfortunate situation that involves a serial killer, but FBI Agent Fontaine was there to save her in time. However, the madman has her info, so her life and basically everyone near and dear to her, their lives may be in jeopardy.
Simone and Jonah had this special connection together. They were opposites but it worked. The soul sisters all had such a unique bond with each other. I liked how they looked out for each other and no matter where they were in life. The story kept me intrigued, I wanted to know whoooooo was the killer!!!!! I couldn’t put it down till i was finally all the way through! Who doesn’t love a hot, sweet FBI agent! Woo hooo. I’m hoping to see if a certain other best friend agent will get his HEA also......I’m looking forward to reading the other sisters’ happily ever afters!
Audrey Carlan has a way of writing a story that both soothes my soul and makes my heart race.
Wild Child was so similar to her other amazing stories, but so unique. I loved the bond between our FMC and her foster mother and sisters. Soul Sisters is the name of the series these interconnected standalones will be part of and that name is so fitting. This was a story about finding love, support, and family from those YOU CHOOSE and those who CHOOSE YOU. This exciting, riveting, suspenseful, emotional tale was woven together beautifully with amazing prose and fantastic pacing.
Simone and Jonah's meet-cute wasn't traditional. After a dangerous encounter, the two were immediately drawn to each other through a deep connection and from unavoidable circumstances. Simone was a wild child at heart with optimism and a gentle soul guiding her through life. Jonah was a love-scorned FBI agent who immediately fell for Simone's "free" and "unfiltered" view on life.
The romance did feel a bit insta, but then it developed throughout the story. The plot moved along quickly with only 5 or 6 weeks passing by the end. The action was engaging, the suspense was well thought out, and the character growth was so profound for multiple characters. With a superb secondary cast of amazing individuals, Wild Child was a perfect contemporary romance with the right mixture of steam, plot, and a well deserved HEA.
Even the epilogue was just perfect. I'm almost envious of the fictional families and the love/ support shown.
Simone and Jonah’s roller-coaster ride was a wild journey through all the emotions. Highs, lows and everything in-between started on the first page and continued right until the satisfying end. Simone and Jonah fell in love within a race to catch a serial killer so I knew this was going to be anything but a low key story. Balancing light-hearted moments alongside devastating ones, the author managed to make me laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time! This was a story of family devotion and loyalty as well as sisterly and romantic love. With fear as a motivator these characters – all of them – stepped up to deal with the situation. Their strengths, their own fears and individuality, shone through as they came together to face it all.
I’m not sure what I was looking for when I started reading but what I got was even more than I hoped for. Can’t wait for more as (I’m hoping) each sister receives their own story. And Mama Kerri too!
