The hotter the flame, the bigger the fire.

I’m a smokejumper.
I go where the flames take me.
And right now, it’s sending me from Baton Rouge to New Orleans.
Louisiana has called for a state of emergency because of a category five hurricane.
First responders from all over the country are coming to help.
It’s where I run into Ryan. A paramedic from Las Vegas.
He’s brave, smart, and gay.
I don’t have an issue with that.
And while I’m getting to know him, I start to battle a different kind of fire.
Our jobs are dangerous, and I don’t believe in waiting for the right time to get what I want.
I’ve never wanted a man.
But I want him.
There’s a problem. He has one rule.
He doesn’t do straight guys.
I’ll have to jump in the smoke and flames between us to show him I have no hesitation.
I’m a cowboy who loves the thrill of a wild ride.
But the storm? It’s far from over. Our lives are at stake.
I live my life to the fullest and I won’t die with regrets.
Ryan is the blaze I never want to fight.
If we go down, we will burn together.
Extinguishing us is not an option.
And my MC will have to get over it.

Rainbow is book one in the Ruthless Kings MC: Baton Rouge series by K.L. Savage. This is my very first book by K.L. This is a M/M MC romantic suspense.

Nathan Rainbow Kennedy is vice president of the Ruthless Kings Baton Rouge chapter MC. He and his younger brother Greer consider their brothers in the club their family. Nathan is also a smoke jumper. He loves his job and he’s good at it. Rainbow is straight. He’s never ever felt anything towards another man except friendship. Until the day Ryan walked into their clubhouse.

Ryan Hathaway is a paramedic on loan from Las Vegas. Ryan is a small man, feminine even. But he’s strong, both physically and emotionally. Ryan lives his life out and proud. He’s not going to cover up who he is, a gay man. He has been hurt before dating a straight man who wanted to experiment so his number one rule is that he will never date a straight man again. He will also never date a firefighter. But then he walked into the Ruthless Kings clubhouse on a call and all those rules flew out the window as soon as he saw Rainbow.

Hurricane Jeffrey is bearing down on Louisiana and it seems Baton Rouge is dead center in its sites. Rainbow has already decided that Ryan is his, he just doesn’t know it yet. While they along with the rest of their brothers are trying to stay safe with the hurricane on their doorstep, it seems someone else has it out for them. Are they after Ryan personally or are they after the entire MC? So, not only are they battling against a major hurricane, they are in danger from an unknown person who has death on his mind.

This was pretty non-stop from the beginning to the end. The prologue grabbed me right away. I adore instalove and sexual awakening M/M romance. But there was just so much going on that for me, it distracted me a little bit from the developing bond between Rainbow and Ryan. I did enjoy this, though, and had to keep turning the pages to see what happened next. I don’t know who is next in the series. Maybe it could be Rainbow’s younger brother? Or, one of his club brothers. I’ll be waiting to see who it is.

Audiobook - 4.5 stars

Story - 2.15 It's me, not the book stars

description

Rainbow and Ryan - They were unbelivable characters. I don't think this story is to be taken seriously. It also requires the right mood.

-Insta at it's best, the BAM! BOOM! kind. I am clean, you are clean we can now bang! Yeah! right? I really hate the word clean being used to mean someone is disease free.

-There was no character development I wanted to know Rainbow and Ryan more but I was not given the chance. All the shenanigans behind the scenes overshadowed them. Ugh! and the women who hang out at the club being refered to as whores got old and cringey pretty fast.

-It was waaaaaaayyy OTT, with violence, people dropping dead for no reason. Weird and cringy dialogue.

-It was atleast funny, in a D-movie kind of way.

Oh and there was this - A woman’s giggle used to turn me on but does nothing for me anymore. I find it fake and annoying now. WTF is that supposed to mean? It's okay you are gay now, why the diss though?

description

Overall it was a meh story with a very good narration.

Wait I don't remember the ending... I am not sure I actually finished the audiobook or dozed off while it was playing. My app says I finished but I honestly don't remember and I not too keen on going back to listening to it. Ugh!

I liked Mime. He was the best part of this book.

This escalated really quickly.

We have Rainbow 🌈 (Real name Nathan) : Smoke jumper and firefighter, Biker, straight until he wasn’t

Ryan : Paramedic, openly gay, loves wearing panties

This was definitely insta-love, both Rainbow and Ryan meet under unfortunate circumstances and instantly form an attraction for each other. It didn’t really bother me here because I was in this just for fun, it was never supposed to be a serious read for me; the insta-love worked for me though. It was a sudden possessive, protective (my two favorite words) bond between the two and I didn’t mind it.

Rainbow immediately brings Ryan into the biker clubhouse after Ryan’s ex physically attacked him. And you see how quickly their relationship escalated from there.

This book was beyond cheesy and cliche with the big bad overprotective biker and the twinky paramedic who didn’t want to depend on anyone. But it wasn’t bad. It was kind of expected and we basically settle into the writing after the first few chapters and it’s almost expected to have stereotypical characters.

I’m not in love with him, but I know I could be, and I’m obsessed with that.

I, however, loved the friendship between the guys. It was strong and loyal, I mean guys who watch re-runs of pretty little liars together? Hells yeah.

“How are you going to find him?” Jokester asks […]
“I turned on his location on his phone, so I can track him.”
“A great way to establish trust.” Butcher curls his fingers into an ‘okay’ gesture and squeezes one eye shut.”

After this is when shit went down.

Overall: this was fine, extremely fast-paced and a page Turner for sure. Would I recommend this? Maybe. I definitely want to read more from this author.

I was definitely in the right mood for this story. I'm surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did. I say that because I usually don't enjoy OTT insta, and the story did feel rushed. I'm hoping the author improves with each book in the series by pacing the stories slower and giving them more depth.

Rainbow is book one in the Ruthless Kings MC: Baton Rouge series. We are introduced to some great and some complex characters. When I saw K.L. Savage was releasing an MM MC, I was giddy and couldn't wait. I’m still excited about it and hope to read more.

Sexy Alpha Rainbow falls for Sassy Ryan. Let me tell you I love Rainbow. Fearless, smokejumper, and Firefighter. Rainbow joined the Ruthless Kings with his younger brother after a horrible accident. Rainbow loves with his whole heart and soul. I am in total awe of how he handles his brother and who he considers family. He is one sweet dirty talker.

Ryan is the sassy paramedic who has rules against dating straight men and firefighters. But he can’t help but break them for Rainbow. Ryan is softer, but at the same time, he isn’t afraid. One who would be scared in a roomful of bikers, but not Ryan. He shocked me a total of times, and that doesn’t happen much.

This book delivers a painful past, several different emotions, grief, acceptance, trauma, amazing sexual chemistry, and, most important, love. There is also suspense and mystery throughout the book. I have to add a way to start a new series. This series is going to be epic. Some of these men are extraordinary in their way. I can’t wait to read Rainbow's brother’s book if he gets one.

That my friends is how you do INSTALOVE!! Whew, this story literally had so much going on that you couldn't help but continuing because you just had to know what was going to happen on all fronts. This was my first K.L. Savage book, and I am just like "Where the hell have I been?"

This book had all my favorite tropes in one beautiful place!! Motorcycle club, gay for you, hurt comfort and add in the fact that it is in Baton Rouge it was made for me. This was not a long book by any means but the way the story was laid out I was invested in all the members of the MC and was already looking forward to their books before I even finished this one. That might be bothersome to other people as in it could take away from the current characters but that was not the case at all. It added so much to Rainbow's character and who he was down to his core.

Rainbow had one of the most traumatic experiences that anyone could go through much less having to go through at 17 years old fundamentally changed the essence of who he was. After losing his parents and taking over raising his 15-year-old brother Rainbow moves to Baton Rouge and joins the Ruthless Kings MC with his brother. Now fifteen years later his brother doesn't speak but lives a fulfilling life and Rainbow is happy with his MC, his job as a firefighter and smokejumper but it isn't until Ryan walks into his life that the center of his world starts to shift. Rainbow has never been attracted to a man before and while that terrifies him briefly, he knows that Ryan could be that one person to change everything for him.

Ryan has been through hell and back since the moment he came out to his parents. He knew that the minute he came out he would have to leave home and that is what he did. Moving to Vegas and becoming a Paramedic gave him a life to look forward to. When a friend of his boss calls in a favor Ryan has to head down to Baton Rouge to help out during a hurricane that is headed straight for Louisiana. When he gets a call to the local MC about a gunshot victim, he knows what needs to be done but he never anticipated Rainbow. The one man he shouldn't want because he makes Ryan beak his top two rules.

As Ryan and Rainbow are thrown together time and time again there is not denying their chemistry but how can Ryan trust a man that is the exact opposite of everything he trusts. Rainbow must prove to Ryan that he is nothing like the men in Ryan's past but in doing that more chaos starts to ensue not only at the MC clubhouse but all-around town as the hurricane draws closer. After the storm passes and life goes back to normal can Ryan & Rainbow make their love last?

I loved this book, that is all. I just loved it. The characters and the way that they were with one another had almost a gravitational pull you couldn't help but feel. This will not be my last K.L. Savage book because I want to dive headfirst into every single Ruthless Kings MC book, I can get my little paws on.

This is the first in the Ruthless Kings: Baton Rouge chapter series. I think I’m starting to lose track of all the chapters! This one was angsty, but a little less dark than some of the other books in this series. This is the first MM in the Ruthless Kings world, and I strongly suspect that there will be other LGBTQ+ books in this spinoff series... ;)
this one has a little bit more of a suspense plotline that’s almost a mystery, and there’s a surprise twist ending that I didn’t see coming. All in all, this was a great read!

Immerse yourself in Rainbow’s alpha sexiness when the Ruthless Kings VP falls for the sassy paramedic! Ryan is not afraid of anything until the fearless smoke jumper makes him his sole focus. It’s about to get SMOKIN’ HOTTTT!

Rainbow found the MC after a tragedy left him raising his younger brother. He needed a family. His may be unconventional but it gave him a sense of belonging and the ability to chase his dream of fighting fires.

Ryan finds himself temporarily in Baton Rouge filling in for the local rescue crew. When he arrives on a call at the local MC he meets Rainbow.

Sparks fly when Rainbow’s eyes land on Ryan for the first time. The attraction is instant. Ryan doesn’t date firefighters, so he wants nothing to do with Rainbow. Good thing the VP is not deterred. He may be new to wanting a man, but he’s all in and ready to do whatever is necessary to change Ryan’s mind.

The story delivers a painful past and so many emotional moments. That’s only the beginning, as a hurricane creates complications and someone is attacking members of the MC for supporting the right to love whomever you want. There is a lot of story being told, so it easy to swept up into the action.

The authors created a story with suspense and a whole lot of love. A family of their own making that protects their own. Rainbow and Ryan share an intense and beautiful love. Two people who weren’t searching, but found their other half when they least expected. They are fire when they finally come together. Rainbow is this big, bad MC member that melts for Ryan. He loved without reservation and wanted to share it with the world. Ryan was his heart.

A great start to this sexy series! I loved the storyline and the introduction of so many interesting characters. I will be eagerly awaiting the next release of this series.

"He’s the color I’ve been missing, the spectrum of beauty that I’ve needed in my life. Ryan is the rainbow I see after a lifetime of storms."

Okay, so I enjoyed Rainbow and I would certainly read more of the Ruthless Kings MC: Baton Rouge series, but oh my, so many story lines to follow in this one! I believe this was K.L. Savage's first venture into MM territory and it was great job 🤗.

Our two main characters are Nathan (aka Rainbow), a (not so) straight firejumper and member of a MC and Ryan, a sassy, out and proud paramedic whose paths cross in Baton Rouge.

It was easy to love Rainbow and Ryan, but there were soooo many tropes - friends to lovers, bi-awakening, insta-love, first times, hurt comfort, big little. We also have traumatic pasts, a mute brother, a murderer on the loose, fires raging, homophobic behaviours, death and a whole lot of sizzling sexual tension! 🔥🔥🔥

Seriously, I was exhausted by the final page, but I can confirm we had a HEA🥰.

Recommended.

4.8 AMAZING STARS!!

It's been a while since I connected with a book like I connected with this one. I LOVED the "take charge" attetude Rainbow had with all this new feelings. Yes, sometime I thought he excepted his feelings for Ryan a bit to easily - but then again when I thought about it it kinda made sense with that amazing into into this amazing book (That had me crying like a bloody lunatic). If you lost so much will you be able to walk away after feeling so much after feeling dead for so long?

It's amazing to realise what you hold in your hand is not just a book it's all this potential you see with each and every character you get to know. As far as I know I believe this was this authors very first mm book and bloody hel did it blow me away. All I have left to say is I NEED MORE NOW!!!!! Oh and PLEASE LET MIME BE GAY AS WELL!!

I AM SO EXITED I JUST CAN'T HIDE IT!!!!!

I was not in the mood for this type of book.

I really enjoyed the start. It was heartbreaking even if

But where the story picks back up is super-duper-on-steroids-instalove. Totally straight to totally gay in less than 3 days.
A woman’s giggle used to turn me on but does nothing for me anymore. I find it fake and annoying now.
That kind of stuff annoys me, as a woman and as a reader. (Not to mention as the sister of a gay man who very much loves all the women in his life, and our laughs.)

Can’t an author find a better way to describe changes in a character’s outlook on life?

And then mix in the flowery love declarations with the out of the blue OTT drama and I am out.

This is way too rushed.
This isn’t for me.

This is yet again a spin off in the Ruthless world. I was not sure what to expect since MM is a new genre for these authors. The end product had many elements of what we are familiar with in their writing style. But I walked away thinking that this was also fresh and new. The story was written with a different lense and that was ok.

We still get the heart of the MC. This is a brotherhood after all. We get Rainbow's heartbreaking past. We meet all of the MC. And we get to see Rainbow and Ryan discover who they are really meant to be. The authors cover tough subjects all the time but this one is relevant to the current culture.

Love is Love and the MC holds that true above all others. Those that don't agree have been weeded out. Rainbow and his brothers held strong. Ryan was finally validated for his life and accepted as one of the Ruthless MC family.

Loved all the side characters. I can't wait to see where Mime ends up. Someone will prompt him to talk again. I hope we get to hang out here for a long time.

Rainbow's beginning was traumatic. It's what led him and his brother to where they live now, as part of an mc, and him as a smoke jumper. And when he meets Ryan, even though he's never been interested in guys, he doesn't hesitate to go all in. He fell pretty fast and wasn't afraid. Ryan was hesitant, and has been hurt before.

But remember, this is still a mc story, so it gets pretty crazy. A lot of the crazy happens during a hurricane, and the fact that so much happens in one night while they are all kind of trapped in one place kind of gives it a scary movie vibe. So much action, and shocking moments! But we get to see how some of the characters care for the group, and a bit of their personalities and how they react to situations.

In the end, though, it's about the love between Rainbow and Ryan. It was fast but it was so special, and I just gotta say, I love the name Rainbow. And I'm excited about Baton Rouge.

the beginning hooked me in Rainbow and Mimes backstory is heart breaking. I felt for them right away.

The main issues that i had with this book was the romance pacing, it went too fast, yes i know that MC romances are known for that but i would have preferred a little more time with them before they declare their love.

Also really loved the PLL cameo in there haha brings back the memories from watching that in high school! hahah

Also if Mime's story isn't next i will be pissed hahah jk i won't but i want to know more about him!! i also am secretly wanting him to get with Dex.... just my romantic brain putting them together.

But if Mime isn't next then Hound and Fox, or even Cosmo (my heart broke for his trauma that he went through).

I do recommend this book if you are looking for an alpha male mc biker who isn't afraid of what other people think, and his paramedic bf who will be there sassing his way through life.

the audiobook is great too...just sayin

Lots of Great Twists

M/M is not always my cup of tea, I only enjoy a couple of authors who write in this genre but KL Savage has now joined the ranks. This book is wonderfully written. I loved the action and mystery and Ryan and Rainbow's story just touches your heart.

I really don't know why I bothered reading so far, boredom I suppose, but wow this bad. So much happens that is so astonishingly OTT.
Rainbows love interest Ryan is so obviously a girl. The murders, the casual deaths, the quite frankly offensive bad guys, it's just all so ridiculous. I can do ridiculous, sometimes that can be fun, this oh god no. Just awful.

I love M/m stories and I love the MC worlds. While they don’t seem as if they would go together, I always find it interesting when authors manage to meld two genres in a way that just fits.
However, in this instance, I sadly feel that it missed the mark.

KL Savage is a “new to me” author, so I went in without knowing her writing style, or any background of the other Ruthless Kings clubs, and my initial reaction was one of excitement. The story gripped me immediately and held me entranced as we experienced the death of Rainbow’s parents, and the events that started him and his brother Greer down the road to the Ruthless Kings MC.

And then it felt different, and the storytelling felt off for so many reasons.
First of all, this didn’t have the same dark and gritty sense that I typically get from MC stories. This was more like a fraternity of men that owned motorcycles than an actual club. In fact, I’m not sure any of the men actually rode a motorcycle during the book. I never pictured an MC clubhouse to have posh bathrooms, or soaking tubs stocked with bubble bath. And shiny marble floors seem like they wouldn’t exactly fit the image either.

Second, right or wrong, I had an issue with the ease of Rainbow’s attraction to Ryan. As a man that has only dated women, it seemed so strange to me that Rainbow could meet Ryan, develop an attraction to him, and start to act on it within mere minutes. Literally MINUTES! There was no stopping to consider this new development of being attracted to a man. There was no moment of reflection. Nothing. It was merely a simple thought that this was why he hadn’t felt strongly about any woman before. It just felt disingenuous to me for such a large revelation to not warrant adequate introspection.

Finally, there was the easy acceptance by his brothers. While in real life I would find this wonderful, in the context of an MC with a man that had only dated women, it seemed odd. There didn’t need to be judgement, but the fact that there wasn’t even a question just didn’t sit well with me. Human nature would require that at least some of his brothers would be curious or surprised by the fact that this outwardly straight man was now interested in another man. But that didn’t happen, and the lack of reaction in and of itself stood out to me.

I went into this story excited to start a new series which combined a lot of elements that I enjoy. What’s not to love about firemen, M/m romance and motorcycles? But while the individual pieces where there, the story simply did not work for me. I wanted to love it, and I did like Rainbow and his protective, caring nature, and Ryan and his absolute sass. But all put together, I didn’t feel that it blended the way I would have wanted it.

Rainbow by K.L. Savage is my first MM Motorcycle Club romance and I have to say the authors shattered some stereotypes for me while bringing the steamy dangerous vibes! It was high on feels and suspense! And the heroes were just so gorgeous and adorable and sexy.

Rainbow has left his home with his brother after suffering the greatest grief of losing his parents in a wildfire. And now he is the VP of Ruthless Kings Baton Rouge chapter. He is also a smokejumper. A hurricane is coming for their town and it also brings a new sexy paramedic Ryan. Rainbow has never been with a man but Ryan has a magnetic pull. Ryan is unsure about him as he has been hurt badly. Then comes a series of accidents and murders and it is getting real dangerous for Ryan and Rainbow.

I love how this story has a great plot with so many twists and turns. The MC club is dealing with some grave situations and I was completely riveted. But it doesn't shadow the love story. Rainbow is the reckless, impulsive, bossy and edgy kind. He is also extremely protective of everyone he loves. His club members. His brother. And Ryan. He is on the softer side..sweet, loving and sassy. He has experienced so much emotional pain that makes him hesitant about Rainbow. But Rainbow refuses to back down and will do anything to prove that he is nothing like the abusive men in Ryan's past. And the violent and scary experiences consolidated that they deeply care for each other. Their connection is steamy and carnal. And it's also very emotional and soul deep. I want to read more about other club members like Rainbow's brother Greer aka Mime.

If you are in mood of a very different kind of MC romance, pick up Rainbow by K.L. Savage.

Rainbow by K.L. Savage is book one in the Ruthless Kings MC: Baton Rouge series. The book focuses on Rainbow and Ryan. Rainbow and his brother went through a lot with the death of their parents when they were teenagers. It leaves Rainbow wanting to be look after everyone as well as giving him a passion to be a firefighter and smokejumper, which puts him in danger every day.

Ryan is the sassy paramedic who has rules against sexy, straight firefighters, but he has an insta-attraction to Rainbow when he meets him. When Ryan’s life is put in danger, Rainbow comes to his rescue, and they have to figure out if they can make it work when it seems that someone is against them.

This story is action packed, not only are the men dealing with a hurricane hitting them, but also Rainbow continuously putting himself in danger and someone in the MC trying to kill everyone. Wrapped up in the suspense is love, which is the premise for the whole story. Even though Rainbow is classed as straight, he feels instant passion and feelings for Ryan and even though they are both scared, they just seem to click instantly.

I also love the relationship that Rainbow has with his brother. He is protective of him but also helps his brother to stay strong. It will be interesting to see if Mime gets his own stories and what else is going to happen within the Ruthless Kings MC.

ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review. All opinions are my own. 😊

Rainbow and Ryan were so perfect for each other.

This book paired the perfect amount of childhood trauma, found family, badassery, and steaming hot romance. Rainbow's the perfect strong alpha to Ryan's sweet, sassy personality and I am here for it. While I am not usually a fan of the insta-love trope, this really worked. I felt like Rainbow just NEEDED to be that protector type and when he first sees Ryan, he is done for.

Rainbow is a patched member of the Baton Rouge chapter of Ruthless Kings and a decorated firefighter as well. After some childhood trauma, becoming a smoke jumper was bound to happen. When an incident at the clubhouse brings the paramedics there and Ryan jumps out of the ambulance, Rainbow is instantly attracted to the snarky emt... When he finds out that Ryan has been assigned to the same firehouse as him, he knows he needs to see more of this man.

When more tragedy strikes, Rainbow vows to keep Ryan safe with him, inside the clubhouse... But when people start dying, the two lovers have to fight for their lives and for their love. This was such a touching romance with so much heat. I need more of these Ruthless Kings romances!

Tragedy early on puts Rainbow on the path to the man he is destined to be. One moment changes everything for him. In the blink of an eye, his world is flipped upside down and his life path begins anew.

When mother nature intervenes, and brings in outside help, Rainbow learns more about himself. Things he never knew until the moment Ryan walks in the door. The sassy and incredibly firey paramedic from Las Vegas has Rainbow experiencing and wanting things he's never wanted before.

Ryan is captivated by Rainbow from the moment he sees him. But a broken past makes him put up his guard when it comes to men - especially straight men. However, his strength to follow his own rules is shattered when Rainbow is determined to make Ryan his.

These two bring out the very best of eachother and show that life has a way of surprising you in the best possible ways when you least expect it.

The mystery that happens throughout the story keeps you on your toes and trying to figure it out. The emotions run high and tears will fall. Their love is beautifully written and sucks you in immediately.

Rainbow is a fast paced, free falling, all consuming love story.

This was the first MM storyline from KL Savage and it did not disappoint.

This was a first for K.L. In all the series there has not been a story focused on MM. I have to say I am amazed and proud that KL added another difficult topic to their repertoire. They make stories that others may shy away from and they do it so well.

Rainbow, his middle name given to him by his "hippie parents", learns early in life to trust his intuition. A horrifying accident in his teens directs his path into adulthood as a firefighter/smoke jumper. He and his brother find family among the Ruthless Kings, Baton Rouge chapter, where family and love have been openly given regardless of anyone elses' opinions. A chance encounter with EMT Ryan has Rainbow questioning himself and what he thought he knew.

Ryan, a Vegas native finds himself in Louisiana in preparation for a hurricane. What Ryan does not expect is a personal hurricane to match the one the city is battling as well. He is determined to stay away from Rainbow, not wanting to be the one to get hurt if Rainbow is only chasing him for the thrill and new experience. Ryan has been someones "experiment" before and will not let himself be that again.

The turmoil of feelings these two go through is so well written. It shows the depth that people go through when they fall in love, especially when that love is unexpected. It was an instant connection and felt real and true. And while these characters were learning each other, the club was battling outdoor, environmental issues and drama within their club resulting in death and destruction.

Honestly I would have loved to see more of the variances of Ryans personality. At times he came across as overly feminine and somewhat of the "stereotypical" gay man, with not as much of the take charge, sassy man we first met in Ruthless Christmas. I believe KL wrote it this way to help ease her readers to this transition of MF to MM romances.

The cast of supporting characters was great to meet too and I really hope they continue to talk to KL. This was a great start for a new chapter to the Ruthless Kings.

When KL told me they wanted to do an M/M book, I was all over it! While I know it’s not everyones shot of whiskey…they did it, and did it great! If you decided not to read it (but I surely hope you give it a shot), It will in no way take away from the other Ruthless King storylines, just enhances it. Nathan “Rainbow” and Ryan stole my heart! I can’t wait to see more from this RK Chapter!
