Heartwood Lake is a quaint small town where everyone knows everyone's business even if they don't know the whole story of the new people in town they know they will be there for a short time because that seems to be the way of things in this town. The townies are there and the newcomers come and leave pretty quickly they don't stick around, well until the Kershaw family moves in. The Kershaws are the newest members of the "witness protection program" and this story sets up that storyline rather nicely, we get a lot of detail about their father and what may have happened to end his life, as well as why they are all being hidden away. This family is not your typical family and when Drake shares his family dynamics you can't help but feel for him. This is Dr. Wren Lynch's and Dr. Drake Kershaw's story. Drake is the eldest of the siblings and Wren is a single mom. They both are a little broken but may be the missing piece to move on from their pasts. Claudia Burgoa has done a magnificent job setting up this story and the entire series. I cannot wait to read about the rest of the Kershaw Family and Wren's friends. I listened to the audiobook version of this story. While Grace Grant and Patrick Zeller did a good job with it I wish they spoke to one another or even to the author about the pronunciation of Gael, one of the Kershaw Brothers because they each pronounced it differently and it was a little annoying. I recommend this book to readers who enjoy Slow Burn Romances, Contemporary Romances, Small Town Romances, Single Mom Romances, Billionaire Romances, Age Gap Romances, or Grumpy/Sunshine Romances.     Drake and Wren are two of my favorite people now. This is my first read for this author. I’m sorry it took me so long. Claudia truly has a gift for words expressing emotions, which I have not found with some authors). I could feel the love Drake had for Wren, and Milo was pure joy.
    Drake’s developing relationships with his brothers was also interesting and intriguing. Can’t wait to read more about the brothers and Wren’s besties.
    Ms Burgoa, I have been intrigued by your book titles for a while now, but will not wait any longer to read the stories that go along with them. You have a new fan.

    If you’re familiar with the Paradise Bay series, then you’ve met Wren Lynch and heard about Heartwood Lake. We have a new family of siblings in this series, the Kershaws, who are in hiding and they’ve been secreted away to Heartwood Lake, CO. It looks like they'll be there for the foreseeable future, until Finn Gil and his team can find out where the threat against this family is coming from.

    Wren is a single mother and the doctor for the only clinic in town. She has an arrangement with Finn, that whenever someone from his team needs medical care, they come to Wren. It just so happens that one of the new guys in town, Drake Kerahaw, is also a doctor, and Finn thinks it's a good idea for Drake to work at the clinic.

    This one has a similar feeling to the Baker's Creek series, where a set of siblings who don’t know each other very well are all brought to one place to live. It will be interesting to watch them come together and learn to be a family as the series progresses. If you enjoy getting in at the beginning and following characters through several romances, this you’ll definitely enjoy this one.

    Claudia Burgoa pens another amazing novel, and it is a brilliant start to her new series, the “Heartwood Lake Secret Billionaires”. Burgoa is the queen of crossover characters, which is a treat for those who are familiar with her books, as well as those new because they will leave you intrigued and wanting to know more about them. That said, we get cameo’s of Finnegan Gill, who, with his partner Derek Farrow, specializes in security and protection and he turned the small town of Heartwood Lake into a safe place for those in witness protection. Some residents are aware and work with them, including Wren Lynch, a single mom of an adorable five-year-old son, Milo, and a doctor who runs the town’s clinic. Wren has her own reason for coming to Heartwood Lake, but she now calls it home. Drake Kershaw, formerly known as Drake Thorndale and his half brothers and sisters, as well as his stepmoms, were all brought to Heartwood Lake because of the danger their father brought to their door. Drake is the outcast of the family, his father did not help matters either, but he became a successful surgeon and being thrown back with all his half-siblings and step-moms is not ideal for him and he asks Finnegan to get him a real job. Finnegan asks Wren to have him work in the clinic, but she was hesitant, thinking his stay in town is temporary stay and she does not want to get attached. When overwhelmed with incoming patients, she calls him in and he is in his element. It was great to watch these two get to know each other, there is undeniable chemistry between them, but it takes Wren a while before she lets the walls around her heart down to let him in. I loved the complexity of the characters and it was also great to learn more about their backstories and what brought them to Heartwood Lake. This first book of the series lays down the foundation of what is going to come and I am looking forward to learn more about the rest of the Kershaw’s and some of the townsfolk, who were great secondary characters. As always, Burgoa’s writing, plot and world building is fantastic, as are the character growth and development. This wonderful small town romance has the perfect balance of drama, charming humor, heartfelt emotions and romance. Claudia Burgoa, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

    🎧📚🎧  Grace Grant and Patrick Zeller were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life and did so with a complete understanding of who they were portraying. I loved how they took each role and made it their own, grasping every aspect of their character’s personality, sounding believable and just as I imagined they would sound. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These two are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen.

    There was a lot of non information throughout this storyline and it felt like Drake & Wren were an add on. Always love the families the Claudia creates but this fell short. So many people with a sketchy story.
