4.2 out of 5 stars 914 ratings

I've been many things in my life: daughter, friend, student, lover, wife…and now, widow.

Getting past those labels and finding who I could be without them was the hardest thing I've ever done.

Then I became friends with Brendon Connolly.

Every time I look at him, I see a past, I see a present, and I’m afraid if I look too hard, I’ll see a future.

Harmony is coming to grips with her new reality, two years after her husband dies. She is putting herself out there to try dating again and to get into a new routine.

Brendon is literally a mess of emotions and still suffering with nightmares and guilt over not being able to save his friend and also about his past, and now he is feeling guilt because he can’t stop thinking about Harmony and the possible feelings he has for her❣️ And now the one person he never wanted to see again, shows up at the worst time.

This story was quite enlightening as it focuses on how Harmony is trying to move on, two years from her husband’s untimely death but also how the one person who is there for her throughout is the one she turns to when things get tough. Something else which I can see is hard is when friends decide to become more and worry that their decision will affect the group of friends they both have but also their relationship and if things don’t work out. I love these Connelly brothers and Dillon is certainly making a statement and his stamp on each of these new fractured connections that are being made😍

This is the second book in this series and what a gem !!
Brendon and Harmony have been friends since they were in High School.
Harmony thinks its time to try to date people since Moyer has been gone for 2 years, a couple of her friends from the charity she runs have hooked her up with blind dates.
They seem to be getting closer and they think they don't want to hurt there friendship.
I highly recommend this read to everyone.
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

‘Shouldn't Have You’ by Carrie Ann Ryan is book Two in the Fractured Connections Series. This is the story of Harmony Wynham and Brendon Connolly. Although each of the books can be read as a standalone I would highly suggest you read them in order because each of the these books have similar characters in them, just the main characters will be different with each of their own stories to tell.

This is a friends to lovers story, but there is much more than that about this book. Talk about emotional roller coaster that pulls you in with all the Grief, Trauma, Love, Strength and healing that is in Brendon and Harmony’s story. This book is so deep with these emotions that it really takes ahold of your heart and makes it a book that will stick with you.

Harmony and Brendon were friends before Harmony married Moyer. But the three of them were actually very close. But they eventually pull away from each other. After Moyer dies in a tragic accident and a mutual friend dies, both Harmony and Brendon start to hang out together again and try to help each other heal with their losses.

I really enjoyed reading this book, it was so emotional for me as this was released just after my husband grandfather had passed. I can only imagine how Carrie Ann Ryan had felt at the time of writing this after her losing her husband. Carrie you did a fabulous job and should be so proud of yourself as I could feel the emotions coming off the pages.

Wow! This was fantastic! A heart rending friends to lovers that totally pulled at the heart strings. There was plenty of beautiful moments between Brendon and Harmony, pulling on their friendship and developing it into so much more. A very lovely story.

I want to start out by saying, while I have lost people I loved, my husband is still around, so I can't comment on the grief that Harmony would experience in losing her husband, or the loneliness she would experience trying to get back on the dating scene.

That being said... this book was boring and repetitive. The two main characters didn't experience any trauma during the events of the book, it was all stuff that happened in the past, and to be honest, I just didn't care. Not even a little bit.

At first the complication of the book was that Brendan loved Harmony, but didn't want to tell her, and Harmony felt like she was relying too much on Brendan and didn't want to be a bother. This isn't solved by a realisation on either of their parts, Brendan is essentially bullied by his family into confessing his feelings for Harmony, and once he does, Harmony goes along with it, with only one panic attack before their date.

The all-is-lost moment comes after they consummate their relationship and Harmony cries tears of join, but he thinks he's hurt her by moving too fast. Does he ask? No. He assumes. He breaks up with her for half a second and then the get straight back together and the story is over.

This is pretty much the only thing that happens. The rest is just wading through the MCs interminable inner monologues about characters who have barely any page time. I understand this is book two in a series (and I think I might have even read book one before, because the opening chapter was super familiar), but I couldn't even tell you who the main characters in that book were. I remember nothing and, as such, I don't care.

Side note: and I'm aware this is super picky, but it really grated that the MC's deceased husband's name was Moyer. Is that even a name? Plus their parents were Jack and Rose? I found it hard to take them seriously, and their names were on the page too much for me to just forget about it.

As with all stories from this author this is a quality read. The characters are well drawn, it's well paced and long enough that it feels substantial. As with all books from this author there is no problem reading this as a standalone, although it does feature characters from other books, most notably Breaking Without You. This book deals with grief and loss and the grieving process so is not an overly 'happy' read but it does come out the other side of the grief with a HEA.

Really enjoyed this story once it got into it a little bit, a couple of times I nearly didn’t push through but so glad that I did. A good romance of second chance . Narration was awesome too.

This is a sweet second-chance romance between two old friends with a unique connection. Harmony and Brendon were friends growing up. He was best friends with her beloved husband, who was killed in a tragic accident, leaving Harmony widowed at the age of twenty five. Brendon witnessed his friend’s death and lives daily with the acute loss. Harmony was devastated and seeing one another hurt so they fell out of touch intentionally despite their longtime friendship.

The recent death of another close friend reunited their group of childhood friends as adults so the two have reconnected. Not a day goes by that Harmony doesn’t grieve Moyer, but she has to keep living so she forces herself to begin dating again. Each date is worse than the last but she soon realizes Brendon is the friend she rehashes these horror-stories with, not her girlfriends. They truly have a special bond but she can’t even consider being more than friends with him because it seems so wrong.

Brendon already had a lot of scars from his nightmare childhood and watching his friend die was a trauma that’s magnified in the face of his PTSD and OCD. He lives with a heavy burden and Harmony is the best thing in his life but even the thought of being closer to her fills him with self-loathing. This is his best friend’s wife, after all. The best friend he might have saved if he’d been paying attention. Brendon’s guilt is so strong that it nearly paralyzes him.

This is a slow-burn romance with a HEA thankfully, because it’s a sad story. There’s less action and more internal dialogue from the main characters than most but it works. The author really brings them to life and lets us feel their emotions in many ways. I was pleasantly surprised since I worried at first this book was a real downer but I enjoyed it very much. This was my first book from Carrie Ann Ryan but I’ll definitely check out more of her catalogue.

Loved this book it was deep .Brendon and Harmony both had pasts , both sadness but in different ways. Brendon was treated appallingly in his childhood by his father who should have protected him. Harmony lost her husband who was also a co-worker and friend to Brendon. While Harmony tried to navigate her way through dating Brendon was there to support and listen to her. These two had always been friends could they be something more. Love this author

Harmony's husband is killed in an accident a few years ago and things have been rough, it's hard to know what to do and how to pick up the pieces your life has been left in.

Brendon had a rough start in life, even though he landed in a loving adoptive home he's always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Harmony and Brendon have a relationship built on friendship, things progress at a nice pace, nothing feels forced. I love the way everything came together, it felt organic and respectful of the losses both had to deal with so far in life. I felt that the author did a great job of showing readers how there are different types of grief just as there are different ways of dealing with loss.
