He desired the darkness I hid. He noticed my fake smiles. He watched me as I fell apart. The spark between us should’ve been enough. Sarge, the faceless man, protects me in a way I’ve never experienced before. But I’ve made mistakes. Unforgivable mistakes that hurt the people I loved the most. Time and time again, I try to atone for my sins by giving pieces of myself away—until there is nothing left. Sarge can see me. The real me. He isn’t disgusted by my past, instead he makes it his mission to mend the fragments of my soul. This amazing man, who hides his scarred body from the world, is the only one who can understand my struggle. But he has demons in his past that force him to push me away, igniting consequences we never saw coming. He was trying to save me, but it might be too late. My fate was his damnation. But he chose me anyway. Now we’ll both burn in the flames.

This book is heavy so please read the TW’s carefully.
So much happens in this book and despite the fact that it is about a different couple than the first book, it is an interconnected story and there is a plot continuation in this, so if you have not read the first one, please do so as so much will make more sense to you.
Sarge and Joslyn had the most interesting connection, they were both broken and believed to be the ultimate sinners. I enjoyed their relationship progression throughout their story. We got to see a lot of their moments that were hinted at in the first book or left to our imagination.
We finally also got the full story between Joslyn and her identical twin sister Jordyn. Their history is heartbreaking. You have to hate her sister but by the end you might see some sort of light despite her actions.
Joslyn has been through so much and to see it happen firsthand was just sad. I felt a lot of pain for the things she could not control, especially from the two people who were supposed to love her and honestly there is a scene from the last thing her father said that sparked my interest a lot and I think this will come into play later on in the series because it was worded in a way that made me think Joslyn misinterpreted everything.
Sarge's past was revealed, and we got to see his ''sin''. Honestly, it was expected considering his military past, but I think he really was shoved into a box and blamed for something out of his control. We get his full name and also get to have him remove the hood.
The chemistry and love between Sarge/Joslyn was truly amazing. The spice was *chefs kiss*.
In terms of the sub-plot that is interconnected we get a bit more information and progression but it's all still a massive mystery! One particular person is being shady as fuck and it was so odd to see this since in book 1 it was just a very different version of the character.
The guys all having doubts concerning things is also going to come into play in the next books!
Sadly, I have to be vague since this is an ARC review. I wish I could write so much more about what happens, but you’ll have to read it to understand everything.
I was super excited when I received an ARC for this book since I enjoyed Sins of Betrayal so much.
This was a pretty amazing book. My heart broke for Josyln and what she had endured. The abuse she took from her sister was horrific, but she felt she deserved it. I have a feeling Jordyn is going to get a book and kinda pisses me off because I don't see how she can be redeemed, but Juniper just might pull it off.
Sarges' back story destroyed me. That poor, poor man. Honestly, these two really were two broken people that together made each other whole, and I loved watching their HEA unfold.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
In the Light of Sin is a freaking fantastic follow-up to Juniper Nyx's debut novel, Sins of Betrayal! This time around we get the story of Sarge, The Unforgiven Souls MC enforcer, and Joslyn, the girl the Souls use to infiltrate a rival gang. From the first time they meet, Sarge is drawn to Joslyn and her too-sunny disposition, completely in spite of himself. Between the forced proximity and Joslyn constantly pushing his boundaries, he just can’t seem to force himself to keep distance between them. They couldn’t be more different physically: his 6’5” to her 5’3”. She’s beautiful and he won’t even let anyone see his face, his body scarred by war. But despite the physical differences, they are like recognizing like. Trauma recognizing trauma. Both are looking for penance and not feeling worthy of redemption. Two truly imperfect people that are just perfect for each other.
Just like the first one, the storytelling is fantastic! It moves quickly, has tons of action, twists and turns, and just a dash of suspense to leave us hanging till the end. It doesn’t reveal the answers to all the questions, but I have no doubt some of them are being left for further in the series. The character development is phenomenal. Joslyn was great. I love imperfect MCs, and I thought her struggle with alcoholism was realistic and heartbreaking. She has tons of inner strength and is willing to sacrifice her own comfort for others. I loved and understood her loyalty to her sister and I absolutely loved her for Sarge. I don't know about you all, but giant, surly heroes with physical and emotional scars are my favorite, lol, and Sarge ticks every. fucking. box.
✅ touch her and die ✅ doesn't like to be touched (by anyone but her) ✅ her > anyone else
They had tons of chemistry and I loved the unique way their relationship progressed. Sarge is definitely a protector and he’s going to do anything and everything to make sure Jos doesn’t get hurt again.
In the Light of Sin is the second book in the Unforgiven Souls MC series by Juniper Nyx. It *could* be read as a standalone, but I wouldn’t recommend it. It would definitely be better enjoyed when read in series order. This is a fantastic series by a brand new author I definitely feel like you should be reading. Can’t recommend it enough!
★★★★. Wow. This is my first time reading this author so I didn’t know what to expect, but I have to say this was such a good book. I loved the plot, the characters and the writing style. I loved how this author didn’t add any unnecessary drama and stuck to the plot while adding in the comedic relief of the side characters. The reason for 4 stars is the length. I do think this could’ve been around 300-330 pages instead of 400-500.
I absolutely loved Sarge (Darin). He was so protective and obsessed with Joslyn (his sunshine). He did literally everything for her while trying to convince him and her that she meant nothing to him. He fixes his bike so it doesn’t hurt her ears, he lets her into his home, he paints his house for her, he learns sign language, he kills her rapist and anyone who harmed her, and he goes against his club for her? Yeah, my kinda man.
I loved Joslyn. She was so strong and I loved how the author didn’t shy away from her past addiction problems. I also really appreciated how the author added in that she didn’t beat her addiction, but she’s fighting it everyday. Joslyn never gave up on Sarge and never let him talk down to her. She was always there fighting him back. She was hilarious sneaking out to go Sarge to yell at him just to have sex on the car that she crashed through his garage. I felt so bad for her when she continually tried with her sister and the ending of them gives me hope, but I don’t know if I can forgive Jordyn.
V and Oakley? A need. I’m living for them. Victoria and Perz(I hate him at the moment) a want. Knight and Faith? A NEED.
“You had three right? The military, your real family, and the Souls?” He was silent for a moment. “Four.” My face scrunched. “Four?” “Parents. Military. Souls.” He turned around like he couldn’t face me anymore. “You.”
“You're sacrificing your place in Heaven for me?” “I was never goin’ there.” His face was buried in my neck, trying to get as close to me as he possibly could. “But after meetin’ you? For the first time, I wish I was.” “I don’t want to go there if you’re not.”
If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would. This book deserves so much love, and I will say it is definitely for the ones with darker souls and can stomach anything in a book. There was so much tension, emotion, and also a boat load of spice. I didn't expect there to be that much, I mean, he knew what to do, so don't blame him.
Sarge and Joslyn had both been through so much trauma in their lives, and they both felt like they were the ultimate sinners and far past love and being redeemed. But they ended up being the missing puzzle pieces to each others stories, and I can not think of a better pairing for both of them.
Joslyn was a deaf character, and she really showed her strength even when she felt extremely vulnerable. She helped Sarge to feel more confident in his own skin around her. After many years ago, he had been burned pretty brutally and had the scarring to prove it.
This story was perfect for them, definitely dark, but I wouldn't expect anything else from them. Their story was perfect for them and they really helped each other through tough times even though Sarge just didn't want to admit any feelings he had whatsoever towards Joslyn, that was until all the tension got far too much for the both of them.
I loved this book so much, and I can't wait to see what this author has in store for other characters in this series. I have a feeling that V and Oakley's story is going to be a great but emotionally draining one.
If you like these tropes, you will love this book: ☆MC Romance ☆Deaf FMC ☆Scarred MMC ☆Forced Proximity ☆Grumpy/Sunshine ☆Lots Of Spice ☆She Falls First, He Falls Harder
Okay... I'm struggling with words to put here... This book had me in a serious chokehold from the very beginning. 👀
I absolutely fell in love with Juniper's first book, Sins of Betrayal and I wasn't sure how you could top that one and those characters, but when I say I am absolutely obsessed with Joslyn and Sarge, it's probably a huge understatement. 😅
The two of them have such broken pasts and are polar opposites. But they say opposites attract, right? That's most definitely what happened here.
Within the pages of this book, I had my emotions pulled in so many different directions. I was mad, happy, sad, slamming my phone on my desk, crying, filled with joy, literally everything...
This book made me realize the things we take for granted, as crazy as that sounds! But seriously, the broken pieces that they both have and how they always come back to each other, pulls on my heart strings because I've been through some crazy rocky things myself. Making those real-life connections is something that always wins me over 🖤
@junipernyxauthor you seriously knocked their story out of the park, but don't forget the fact you left some serious questions unanswered...so I'm gonna need ya to spill the beans for me 🤣 but seriously, I'm so incredibly proud of you and this amazing book! I cannot wait for V and Oakley's story! Thank you for letting me be a part of your team and reading this!
Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me and I DNF'd around 30%. I don't know if it was because I didn't read the first one (I didn't realize it was a series) or what, but I just got the ick consistently with this story. There was consent issues that was really hard for me to be okay with (again, this may be the nature of their relationship from the first book, so that's easily on me for not reading the first one). There were also SO many characters introduced at once that I got confused and couldn't enjoy the story because I was trying to figure out who everyone was. I do think if I read the first, I'd like this one more, so I'm hoping to read the first, then come back to this one.
I liked that there was deaf representation though!
Thank you to author agency for an eARC of this book! All opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this book. Sarge I loved him, he is the Alpha male idol. He is scarred and broken he's a dirty taking biker and hot as sin. Two people who are broken and have their own struggles and guilt to work through coming together and trying mend each other.
I dont know what it was with Joslyn I honestly just really couldn't connect with her and that's the only thing that let down 5 stars. Don't get me wrong there was nothing wrong with her but I just couldn't gel with her and sometimes felt like throwing my kindle at the wall with her (but that's just me)
Such a dark MC! Juniper is just a great writer. She put in a lot of emotions and you can feel everything the characters are feeling come right off the page! I can’t wait to see what comes next!
ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review
I think this series has to be read in order because at the beginning I was a little lost with the MC's plot and some details regarding the characters, BUT despite that I loved discovering the twists in the plot, how complex the story of Joslyn & Sarge was as individual characters, and especially as a couple. Also, I'm dying to know more about the secondary characters and the mysteries that this series still hides.
Joslyn was a very interesting girl, with a heartbreaking personal story for many more reasons than I expected when I started this book, I loved that Juniper Nyx show the sweetest, most beautiful and understanding side of Jos. I also really liked reading her fighting to move forward with her life, achieve her dreams and solve her mistakes, and I also think she knows very well how to handle Sarge, the grumpy and recluse member of the MC, a man jus as broken as her, who hides from the world to avoid more pain and who tries by all means to stay away from Joslyn. Sarge was a little frustrating and his character worried me a little throughout several chapters, but in the end he won my heart with his tender actions towards Jos.
Sarge & Joslyn go through a long and complex path in In the Light of Sin and it cannot be denied that they have a very interesting chemistry, and I think one of the things that I loved the most was reading Sargetrying to convince himself that Jos is not important to him while supporting her, protecting her and learning details about her personality, I also loved the way these two trusted each other with the reason for their suffering and tried to help each other heal. Plus, I really enjoyed getting to know the secondary characters, the intrigues of the MC, the possible twists in the plot and I'm SO excited to continue reading this author!
Romance trope: MC Series: The Unforgiven Souls MC Length: 474 pages
Plot: Joslyn is still trying to make up for her past (as she sees it) and so goes into a party wired up, ready to record the secret plans of her enemies (or at least the enemies of the Unforgiven Souls MC). But things are more dangerous than she realized, and Sarge saves her from an attacker. He doesn't seem to like her, even as he can't stop watching over her, but Joslyn doesn't give up easy, and she knows that Sarge is special to her. As more danger closes in on both the MC and Joslyn specifically, courtesy of her (evil) twin sister, Sarge doubles down on his protection and finds that maybe Joslyn's sunshine - along with the bit of darkness and tragedy that she hides away - are just what he needs to recover the broken pieces of his soul.
Commentary: This is the second in a series, and you really do need to read the first book to completely understand the plot in this one. I didn't, and I was lost at first. It seems like the events in this story begin immediately after the ending events in the first book, so the action begins in medias res. But once you get a handle on the plot and fill in some of the holes, the book is fantastic. (I would not give the book fewer stars because of not understanding the plot because it's my job as reader to know what I'm reading - I can see very easily that it's book #2.)
I saw this book recommended online as a book that made the reader really emotional even though it was about a tough MC character. I definitely found that to be true. Sarge and Joslyn were both damaged characters and finding their way to each other wasn't easy. I loved that he was so insistent that her past and her disability did not diminish her worth in any way. He didn't care if she wore hearing aids or not or got cochlear implants or not. He learned sign language for her but supported her desire to have surgery as well. Not only that, but he never once shamed her for her past addiction or interactions with men.
Joslyn was absolutely right in calling him out for granting her absolution for her past while not doing the same for himself. I loved that she was able to, without pity, make him see that she loved him for who he was rather than who he thought he should be. I hated when the daughter of his old friend blamed him for her father's death. That was the worst thing ever, and someone should have stopped her long before she even got to him. She needed therapy, and that therapy should have included understanding that in the midst of war, it was unrealistic to place the burden of rescuing several men on one soldier while he was on fire himself. That was so unfair.
And then finally - that scene in the house when they thought they were going to die. Yeah, I cried. A lot. That was so well-written and heartbreaking. I could not get over it for quite a while - it was beautiful and devastating.
Grammar/formatting: needed another pass with the proofreader and editor. One strange quirk was that every time a sentence began with the word "F*cking" it was lowercase (even though it should have been uppercase as the first word of the sentence). It's almost like someone did a find and replace function, but I couldn't figure out what, why, or how. Honestly, there were enough grammatical errors/typos that I took away a star from the review; otherwise for me it would have been a 5-star read.
In the Light of Sin is book two in the Unforgiven Souls MC series by Juniper Nyx! Here we have Sarge who is the enforcer for The Unforgiven Souls MC and Joslyn, who is a friend of Nyla’s (from book 1)- The souls use her to help infiltrate a rival gang and get information. Sarge is a truly troubled hero with a traumatic past who is in the gang for his own unforgivable sins. He has scars that are not only physical but psychological and he is truly written as a giant with a cold heart with no interest in anything but wallowing in his past and attempting to redeem his sins, rarely any social interactions. No one can see under his armor- the metaphorical one as well and the physical one and he’s fine with it. In the first instalment we saw the girls be thrust into the world of gangs as newcomers who had no idea what was going on. Here we have Joslyn who isn’t new to this world. She isn’t the sweet innocent girl everyone thinks she is. She is an MC with her own struggles and sins. She has a realistic and tragic past herself. She was really selfless and kind despite her own traumas. Both of the MC’s wish for atonement for their sins which weigh them down heavily but it is easier to bear the weight together rather than by yourself; this is what we see them attempt to do in this book. The character development individually as well as together was really well done. I adored the progression of their relationship through the book. You could see two unsettled souls attempt to work through their troubles to lessen the burden for the other. There was just something about these MC’s that did it for me. The protective and attentive MMC with a hard exterior and the loyal and nurturing FMC who would do anything for him. Also, the spice was perfection. Really well done. I really liked that some of the plotlines from book one were revealed or continued in this book as well as having some mysteries and unanswered topics that leave room for the next book. The mystery/ kind of behind the scenes work we know is going on but don’t have the details of keeps the tension high. I have to be honest even thought I really enjoyed Sins of Betrayal this book took it to another new level for me. It was amazing. Everything from the plot, the character development, relationships to the trauma and disability rep just really worked for me. The unexpected turns and twists in the book set the plot really well for the next one and it has me super excited for the next books in the series! Thank you to Juniper for this ARC. It truly was an amazing experience getting to read this book! A really fantastic story! Well done! This one is for you if you love: -She Falls First, He Falls Harder -MC Romance -Grumpy/Sunshine -Scarred MMC x Deaf FMC
Sarge and Joslyn were so meant to be together. The amount of trauma they went through separate and together and remained hopeful was astonishing.
What to Expect: 🖤MC Romance 🌻Deaf FMC ☀️Grumpy/Sunshine 🔥Scarred MMC 🥵Forced Proximity 😈She falls first, he falls harder
My ARC Review (5/5 ⭐️, 4/5 🌶️) Sarge and Joslyn each have had their fair share of traumatic events happened in their lives. And when Sarge takes her under his care due to a rival gang that are after her and her two best friends, some unexpected feelings arise. Joslyn is all sunshine and rainbows on the outside but on the inside she has a darkness that she has suppressed from the past 4 years. As a deaf child, her and her twin sister were two peas in a pod and because of her disability she relied and looked up to her sister to do things that she couldn’t. But somewhere along the way, Joslyn hits a point where she is reaches rock bottom and from that point on she decided to bury that hurt, pain, and all in all darkness to fix and save other people absolve their sins. Sarge is a member of the Unforgiven Souls MC and known as one of the most lethal man on the crew. Once he absolves his sins that’s when he’ll finally put his life in the hands of the Prez and be sent to the place where he feels he belongs. Unexpected feelings arise when mutual pain, yearning (deep down and out in the open) pulling each other into each other’s orbit, mutual lust and need, and such sweet care for each other. I swear once Sarge got past his stubbornness and got out of his mind to see that he needed Joslyn as much as he needed to breathe, he was the absolute sweetest person to her and really took touch her, bother her, mention her, or talk bad about her and you are done. These two were perfect together and I’m glad that I was able connect with these two characters and their problems/traumas. I absolutely recommend this book as well as this series especially since the next book is gonna be one of the best ones in the series. P.S. the spice was spicing up in there and especially two particular scenes that had me all hot and bothered. Such a great book Juni!
Thank you to Juni for allowing me to be a part of you beta team and that I was able to help in any way. It was an honor and a privilege to work, know, and laugh with you. You deserve all the love and praise for your hard-work on this. Enjoy your release day and rest of the week! Love you J <3
First of all let me say that the MC world that Juniper created is so unique and I absolutely love it. After reading Sins of Betrayal I was so excited for the next story in this MC world.
This is Sarge and Joslyn’s story and man is it a douse. Joslyn has been through it more than we know. Her past is hinted at throughout book and and you really get to find out more about our her in this book. These two broken people who don’t think they deserve love but who find it in each other. But man do they have to work for it. This book will have you on the edge of your seat and unable to put the book down because you need to know what’s happening.
Sarge fights his feelings and doesn’t want to see that he’s lovable. He doesn’t want to let Joslyn in but too bad for him he falls. Joslyn also has thinks she doesn’t deserve love because of the things she’s done but she can’t help her feelings for Sarge and she accepts him for who he is. But man they have to fight and claw and work so hard for their relationship. They both go through it and experience trauma, headache and pain. But they also get to experience love. I absolutely freaking love their story and this world that Juni has created and the emotional roller coaster that his book took me on. My freaking heart hurt during this one. But man is it worth it. I highly recommend this book it’s full of secrets, twists and turns and more questions. I cannot wait for more.
We are back with the guys of the Unforgiving Souls MC. Joslyn Monroe is close friends with Nyla. The Souls need to figure out what the Bloods and the Flock are up to. They send Joslyn into a party on the guise that she is with her twin sister, Jordyn. These two looked alike but Joslyn was deaf. Their parents had died and they were sent to live with their uncle. Joslyn just wants to be happy. She works at Poppy Oaks with Oakley and her mother, Claudia. Sarge has become her shadow.
Sarge craves the light that Joslyn exudes. He needs to take care of her. Most of the club members have accepted the girls. Sarge, V, and Grim are thoroughly entranced though. V refuses to leave Oakley’s side. Sarge is content to follow Joslyn from a distance until he can’t. He brings her into his home and knows he will never let her go. Sarge is Veteran and returned badly burned. He constantly wears a hood to cover his face.
Fortunately Joslyn needs Sarge just as much as he needs her. Joslyn will run into danger to save this man that does want to be saved. A man that does not feel like he can be saved. Just like all the guys in the Souls, Sarge is looking for redemption. Who are the Souls going to turn to when the one that brought them together starts changing? Prez is starting to do things that is making the guys rethink their loyalty. I can’t imagine what the next book in this series will bring.
Juni I AM ON MY KNEES. This book hit me in the feels. The plot really picked up in this book and I have so many questions. SO. MANY. QUESTIONS! Giving side eye to both Prez and Jordyn. Prez because I'm so worried(will not say more). Jordyn because I am truly hoping for a redemption arc. Sarge and Joslyn have stolen the show. My poor babies omg. Watching Joslyn realize she had family that DID treat her well and loved her to no end was spectacular. She deserves all the good things lifer has to offer. Sarge...had me on my knees. He is hot, protective, and filthy and I'm here for it. Both of their backstories had my heart breaking, but GOD the love they have for each other??? CHEFS KISS. And you KNOW that little snippets we got of V and Oakley... IM TRYING MY BEST TO WAIT PATIENTLY FOR THEIR BOOK BUT ITS REALLY HARD. This series stole my heart so quickly. It's a must read for MC romance lovers.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I am completely obsessing over Joslyn and Sarge! This book was a little twisty and dark but that is not stopping me from wanting to read book 1 in the series. The intensity and the plot was everything and the touch her and be unalived trope was taken to a level of scary that I’m new to reading! Both characters are living with their own set of limitations but they do find what they are missing within themselves with each other, which made for a great read. I loved this book and I can’t wait to read book 3!
While it was a slow start for me (especially since I didn’t read the first one. Oops.), I enjoyed Joslyn and Sarge’s story. I was a little taken aback by how fast their physical relationship developed, but I could feel the emotional passion for each other.
I enjoyed how Sarge wanted the best for Joslyn and even though he was denying his feelings for her, he still couldn’t stay away. It was disheartening reading Joslyn’s story and Sarge’s backstory but I liked how they came together in spite of it.
I am lowkey interested in V and Oakley’s story….waiting to see an update on where I can access it, so I’m going to read the first book while I wait haha.
Juniper Nyx has made it to my top 5 favourite Biker authors. If you love dark, gritty biker reads, then you need to read her series. We were introduced to this author with Sins of Betrayal and we meet her again with this. Sarge and Jos’ book if deep, riveting, emotional and high spice. This is a book that won’t let you put it down, so plan for this read as it is a bigger read. This couple are broken, very broken but somehow they make it back together with one another. I can’t do this book justice with my words but know this - if you enjoy the Bikers created by Giana Darling, V. Thea, or S.J. Tilley, then you need these books. Be prepared for the book hangover and the craving for the third book. Although this book does not end in a cliffhanger, because of the amazing world building, it does leave you needing to read what comes next. Bravo!
This is book two in the unforgiven souls mc series I could not out the first book down so had high hopes for book too and WOW I was not disappointed!! I loved grim and Mitchell’s story and how they found each other. I did not think book 2 could get better but it Did! Juniper Nyx you have done it again.
When a book can make me laugh, cry and get hot under the collar its a book that will have my heart. This book did all these things and more! When sarge and Joslyn found each other unexpectedly they help each other mend their souls and make their ‘perfectly imperfect’ relationship. This book is spicy but definitely hits you in the feels. I loved Sarge’s growley a-hole attituded with joslyn’s sunshine attitude even with all her hardships. It’s an emotional, cute and sexy read and is a must read!! I do recommend reading the first book before this one to get the full effect. I can’t wait for the third book to come out with V and Oakley’s story November can’t come quick enough I’m trapped in the unforgiven souls world.
⚠️Please do check trigger warnings as it’s dark and contains triggers some may not like ⚠️
This is a dark MC romance like I haven’t read before. It has hearing difficulty representing that I adore. These characters were not perfect which made it all that much better.
I was looking forward to this book and it did not disappoint. This book follows Sarge & Joslyn’s story, in it we get to see what happens in their pasts to make them who they are today. While they might initially connect over shared insecurities they soon start breaking down each other’s walls and allowing the other to see who they really are. I loved the story, the characters and the spice in this book and I can’t wait for the next in this series.
This was a great continuation of the souls story! This one featured Sarge and Joslyn. She was deaf and went through a lot growing up. Her and her twin Jordyn were placed with their uncle after their parents died. A lot was uncovered of their pasts in this book. Great series!!
This would have been so much better if Darrell’s character wasn’t just flipped against all the development made last book? It really threw me off and I don’t like it. Still want to know what happens in book 3, but still.
