CAPTAIN: Black Ops MMA Book Three Kindle Edition
Sometimes you have to break to become the person you're meant to be.
CAP:
I'm a bastard by birth.
Heartless by choice.
Love abandoned me a long time ago. Good riddance.
I have my family-by-choice. I don't need more.
Until she crept in, sank in deep, latched on, and stayed.
She's as broken as the day is long.
Yet I can't resist the pull to get her in my bed, in my heart, piecing me back together—for she's not the only one broken.
CHER:
I'm over men.
Destruction and pain are all they bring.
Been there. Done that. Check please.
Yet there is one—so many years later—who looks at me like I'm a goddess.
Who makes me feel like I have something to offer, that I'm exactly who he wants.
Can two lonely souls come together to discover the broken have more pieces to love, or will they pass on finding their forever love?

- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2024Well written story and well developed characters! Captain! He is the boss! The man in charge! He loves all the guys he coaches at the Black Ops MMA like they are his sons! But he is alone! Can't be a man for anyone!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2021So I was a little hesitant to read this story... I wasn't sure I was going to like Cher and I figured it'd be a lot of drama with Cap but turns out it was such an amazing story I seriously could not put it down! Don't get me wrong there's a bit of a drama a lot of emotions and some really steamy hot scenes. The love that shown through was amazing! This is definitely a must read. I can't wait for more of this series!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2021Oh my gosh I loved this book. I wish we could give more than five stars. Captain & Cher both showed compassion, love of family. They both thought that they were broken, but showed just how 💪 they both were for all of their family.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2021I read all three books in the series and enjoyed them for the most part.
Davis featured a character that was at first glance somewhat unsympathetic in the previous books, but we really get to understand her in this one. Sometimes I felt like was reading a dramatized version of The Power and Control Wheel showing the constant abuse Cher suffered and how those old patterns and experiences still shape her life. I felt bad for Cher and it hurt to see benign situations with Cap trip her up and transport her back to the horrible relationship she was in before. It is both interesting and heartbreaking to have a main character with such strong trauma symptoms (in this series all of the female characters either have trauma symptoms if not full-blown PTSD). The male characters are your typical alpha males, but with a big soft spot for their ladies. Captain in particular could be very sentimental and sweet with Cher. Captain is kind of a father figure for the main characters featured in the previous two books, and this is his story of falling for Cher, the mother of his unofficial son and daughter, Gabriel and Reese.
Captain wasn’t a perfect fit for me. In the first quarter I really liked it and anticipated it might be my favorite of the series, and yet by the end found myself dragging and pushing myself to get through to the end. It was dark at times. The trauma was sad. And there are some evil villains that you definitely hate. But the romance is sweet, if frustrating at times. I appreciated that the characters were a little older this time around. I think it’s admirable to feature the struggle of characters working to overcome trauma, and that “freeze” response or even flashbacks, avoidance of triggers, it’s not an easy road, but conveys that healing can be done through loving, safe, healthy relationships. And the heroes try to be extremely respectful and sensitive to their ladies’ triggers.
Captain features a lot of sex. It’s definitely in the category of book where it’s about half story half sex. Although it balances this a little better than others I have read. I found myself skimming quickly through some of these scenes towards the end, just because I wanted to know what happened but had to get through 3 or 4 more sex scenes before I could get to the conclusion.
I’d recommend reading them in order as the relationships will be more meaningful in Captain if you know who Gabriel, Reese and Rowdy are. I WOULD recommend this book to people who like sports romance genre or characters who are veterans, people who enjoy a darker context or characters who begin the story rather broken and gradually heal and grow. I would NOT recommend this if you’re looking for a light read, if you want to laugh, or if depictions of abuse/assault are overly distressing. - Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2021Wow. I’m literally speechless. I’m emotionally hungover. This wrenched all the tears out of me. This story was so achingly beautiful. Cap has my heart for good. I dunno how anyone will compete with that. Top read of 2021 for sure.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2021Captain is Book #3 in the Black Ops MMA series. Books are part of an interconnected series. For maximum enjoyment books should be read in order.
In D.M.’s author’s note she states that she herself didn’t even like Cher in No Mercy and Rowdy’s books and I have to say I thought that same thing as I started the book. I was wondering how D.M. was going to change my mind about Cher and make me feel empathetic towards her. And, I have to say she completely succeeded.
This love story is twelve years in the making. We are taken thru the past, told in duel perspectives, as we learn more about Cap and Cher’s lives before they met and what ultimately brings us to the present.
Cher was a teenage mother who suffered abuse at the hands of her father and then her husband. For years he chipped away at her soul until Gabriel was old enough and strong enough to throw him out of their lives.
Cap entered their lives when Gabriel showed up at his MMA gym looking for an outlet. A tenuous friendship began thru Cher and Cap when Gabriel was serving in the Army. But, Cap managed to sabotage them believing he didn’t have it in him to love again.
Over the next few years Cher ices Cap out. But, when Gabriel and Frankie welcome their son Maddox into the world, Gabriel tells Cap to make it right with Cher- their family needs them both. He proposes they try their hand at friendship again. Cher is still harboring all her insecurities from her past. But, Cap is determined to open her eyes to what they can be together.
Cap is a gentle giant with a huge heart, a dirty mouth, and all the right moves. Seriously. Hot AF. Panty melting chemistry.
The way he loves on Cher. Has her back. Accepts her past. Holds her secrets. How he opens himself to Gabriel, Reese, Frankie and Rowdy. Cementing them as family.
Gah, I am so in love with this book. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel. I decided to just read a few chapters and before I knew it I was 50% in and forcing myself to take a break. And, the epilogue, holy ovary explosion.
