The Summer Proposal

Rate this book
The first time I met Max Yearwood was on a blind date.
Max was insanely gorgeous, funny, and our chemistry was off the charts. He also had the biggest dimples I’d ever laid eyes on.
Exactly what I needed after my breakup.
Or so I thought…
Until my real date arrived.
Turned out, Max wasn’t who I was there to meet. He only pretended to be until my real date showed up.
To say I was disappointed would be an understatement.
Before he left, he slipped me a ticket to a hockey game a few blocks away, in case things didn’t work out on my actual date.
I tossed the ticket into my purse and went about trying to enjoy the man I was supposed to meet.
But my real blind date and I had no connection.
So on my way home, I decided to take a chance and stop by the game.
When I arrived, the seat next to me was empty.
Disappointed again, I decided to leave at the end of the period.
Just before the buzzer, one of the teams scored, and the entire arena went crazy.
A player’s face flashed up on the Jumbotron. He was wearing a helmet, but I froze when he smiled.
You guessed it: Dimples.
Apparently, my fake blind date hadn’t invited me to watch hockey with him, he’d invited me to watch him play.
And so began my adventure with Max Yearwood.
He was everything I needed at the time—fun, sexy, up for anything, and only around for a few months since he’d signed with a new team three-thousand miles away.
Max proposed we spend the summer helping me forget my ex. It sounded like a good plan. Things couldn’t get too serious when we had an expiration date. Right?
Though, you know what they say about the best-laid plans.

VK books are getting more and more absurd.🙄

DNF🥳🥳

The h is in an open relationship.

Well, I…uh…” Damn, this wasn’t easy to explain. “I guess you could say I’m in an open relationship.”
Max’s brows rose. “You guess?”
“Sorry…no.” I nodded. “I am. I’m in an open relationship.”
“Why does it sound like there’s more to it than just you’re dating someone without a commitment?”
I chewed on my bottom lip. “We were actually engaged.”

The h bf/fiance is a writer and he is in England working as a visiting professor. So instead of breaking up they are in an open relationship trying to figure things out while dating/fucking other ppl.🙄

Why would anyone want to read a romance book with this storyline? I know i don't.🤷‍♀️

And the fact that no one bothered to
disclose this little detail in the arc reviews is unbelievable.

I know i'm not wasting my time for this shit.😂

A refreshingly hot story that is so much more than your average hockey romance. TSP has all of the things I love in a romance: witty, charming hero, smart lovable heroine, and that sweet ache of wondering what will happen when their hot summer ends. Perfection! (And the blind date meet cute at the beginning? One of my favorite starts to any book ever!)

📚'THE SUMMER PROPOSAL' 📚 Is a full length, stand-alone romance book by Vi Keeland. Spoken in Dual POV's. rsz-png-clipart-piercing-heart-arrow-gold

➽ KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

I started this last night in bed and pretty much inhaled it from that point onwards. This author has an uncanny knack for pulling us into her storylines it seems without effort, where you don't look at the clock ticking away in the background, you ignore how tired you are and just stay in the moment.

It all started when twenty-eight year old workaholic Georgia agrees to go on a blind date with an ordinary, nice looking man organised by her mother's seventy-four year old friend. That there should've been her first clue when instead she's sitting beside a man that belonged on a cover of a magazine. When the real Adam turns up and claims his rightful spot, Max passes off a hockey ticket to Georgia with hopes that she shows up.

With a date that didn't spark anything, on a whim she decides to head on over to the game she has a ticket for. Thinking she'll be sitting beside Max she does a double take when a player on the ice takes his helmet off and she recognises Max.

Salmon-Pink-with-Simple-Heart-Shapes-Friendship-Photo-Collage-1.gif

He's got a summer free from playing, now he's got a summer proposal he hopes she'll accept.

This was a slow burn, slow moving easy to get it's hooks into you kind of read. Even though I really enjoyed this one I did find the pace a wee bit too slow for me as our heroine Georgia held back for most of the story so it took it away from me full out loving it a wee bit, but Max more than made up for it. This man is the kind of man I love to chase in my books, the perfect hero that had me swooning, giggling and loving everything this man embodied.

This reads exactly how it's set out in the synopsis, so your not blindsided, though Georgia does have a decision to make and Max has to decide what's really important in life.

If this book is author's idea of a romance, this will be the last book I read from her.
I was about to give this 2 stars since it wasn't that bad (2 stars in GRs rating system was "an OK read") but because I'm a petty person and H's past kept being brought up didn't help so I took down a star.

Here are my notes I want to share, if you decide to give this book a go.

- Heroine was engaged to OM, her fiancé opened their relationship so he could date and slept with other women. I will leave it for you to judge if this is cheating, for me it is. He's an asswipe by the way.

- Enter Max a pro hockey player.

- H met h at the bar where h was supposed to meet her date. Keep in mind at this point, she's still in love with her fiancé. Three second after they met, h almost sank in her drool.

- H gave h a ticket to his game in case h and her date didn't work. She took it and went to his game.

- H proposed they had a no strings attached relationship till the end of summer (he already knew about h's relationship with her ex-fiancé) and of course she agreed. Can you folks guess how this is going to end? They both had feelings, h broke things off with her ex and told H she wanted them to be more than a summer fuck. Instead of stepping up to be her man, H gave her these clichéd lines "But this was supposed to be just the summer" and "I'm sorry if I led you you to believe this was more than it was. To make this fuckity situation even more embarrassed, h offered him to at least keep things going till the end of summer. Deperate much.

- H revealed he had aneurysm since it ran in the family (his dad and brother had it) and he pushed h away for this reason.

- H finally pulled his head out of his ass but got aneurysm ruptured so he ended up in the hospital.

- H woke up and found h lying on his hospital bed, they confessed their love all rainbow and shit.

-No grovel, spineless heroine just took him back like he hadn't dumbed her and broken her heart.

- Epilogue, H proposed to h. They will live happily ever after...maybe...I hope he won't open their marriage.

This is for sensitive readers/safety-gang:
- If you are a reader who has problems with H's excessive past experience like me, be warned.
- We get to read about H's colorful sexual history, how he got his Yoda figure after playing with OW's boobs in movie threater and had her hands down his pant when he was thirteen.
- We have some chapters in H's POV in the past where he dated OW (Teagan).
- Wherever H goes, there will be women batting their eyelashes at him, trying to get his attention or texing to offer showing him around the city. If author's trying to make a point that he's God-gift-to-women, she'd over done it because at 80% things like that still happen.
-Heroine's ex appeared and wanted her back but she refused because she already has hunky hunky Max.
- H pushed h away because he had aneurysm and thought that was for her own good. Taking away a choice from someone you love and make decision for them is a selfish move.
- Neither with OP after they meet.
-Possible triggers : cheating, dead of loved ones, a medical condition aneurysm.

I got to give it to this book, the first 30 pages or so reel you in. The meet cute is interesting and cute AF, and Max is a perfect mix of hot, cute, confident and self-deprecating at the same time. I was literally mooning over how enthralled he was with Georgia, and how (seemingly) honest he was about what he wanted.

But then you have to remember it's a Vi Keeland book 🙄

So naturally what we get is the same overused formula and a story that in its bones is very much the same as every other VK story before it, there's just a few changes in the external outfit.

The funny thing is, I didn't even mind what most people who rate this book low generally disliked - that Georgia is in an open relationship with another man when she meets and starts dating Max. First of all, that's not cheating, or even pseudo-cheating or whatever - sure, you can still cheat in an open relationship, I suppose, but that was not the case here. Two, she's very upfront about it with Max right from the start. And three, it's clear right from the beginning that the dude she's supposedly in a relationship with, Gabriel (or whatever his name was, I'm too lazy to go back and check), is just another plot device to deliver us some subpar angst and to showcase how AMAZING™ Max is in comparison.

Because that's not lazy at all 🤡🙃🙃

And on one hand, I was quite surprised that there was an attempt to give this storyline depth, and Georgia went through quite an emotional journey to realize Gabe-what's-his-face is not the right partner for her anymore. Yet, I was frustrated at times with how stubborn she was with her "I did decide years before that this dude is IT for me and I should stick to it". Even when said dude:

🗑️ ditched her the moment things got hard

🗑️ took a job across the ocean not only w/o factoring her into that decision, but just telling her at the very last moment

🗑️ took this as a chance to sleep with other people

🗑️ had a view of an "open" relationship which was basically him sleeping and dating whoever he wants, and Georgia passively and politely waiting until he's done

🗑️ made a 180 turn on their relationship AGAIN the moment Georgia also started to date - and only then suddenly he wanted to be together again

Georgia was presented as an intelligent woman. And despite my own limited emotional range, I am capable of understanding that relationships have lots of grey areas and sometimes things and feelings are complicated. I could even understand that what's-his-face was going through a hard time and partially, that was the reason he acted this way. Still, from Georgia's perspective, this shouldn't warrant a 150-page long agony over Gabriel vs. Max, I mean after a dude does all the above to you???

And now onto Max...I really liked him at first, you know? But then he started to resemble literally every other VK male lead:

🤡 tortured past which is a source of unsubstantiated self guilt-trip and is supposed to explain his commitment issues

🤡 low-key emotional gaslighting

🤡 making a Noble Great Sacrifice for heroine's own good, which in fact is just him withholding important information from the heroine and then making a decision for her, leaving her in a WTF-level of emotional turmoil

And look at that, you got yourself a character 🙃

What I was particularly annoyed with:

🙄 from the moment that first Max flashback chapter came in, I KNEW what would happen from there to the very end - and not in a "this storyline feels organic" way, but in a "been there, done that 48 925 times before" way

🙄 like I mentioned before, I liked Max - at least for most of the story, but then he really dared to be mildly surprised when Georgia told him she wanted more...DUDE, sure you said it's a no-strings relationship with a timeline but then you: 1) took her to meet your family 2) invited her along to check out your new city of residence and asked her to go house-hunting with you 3) got incredibly jealous of her open-relationship partner 4) "joked" about marriage too many times for it to be a joke

And THEN when Georgia is all "I want to try", Max goes (of course all the while not telling her about his life-threatening condition aka withholding vital info from her): bUT iT waS sUPpoSed tO Be nO-stRinGS wHY dID yOU gET aTTaCheD

🙄 after all the emotional shit Max pulled Georgia at the end, it was all without any consequence, because OF COURSE since the dude almost died, Georgia just shrugged it all off with one "I'm so mad at you"

🙄 this is not really an annoyance (it kind of is tho), it's a personal preference, but I am SO TIRED of authors using illness as plot device for angst when it's done on a surface level of a kiddie pool

Only one I stan is Mama Yearwood, who gave Max a tongue-lashing of his life about how he took the choice away from Georgia. Too bad it was only her who actually got mad about it.

Anyway, till next time I guess, I'm sure I'll be no more wiser when the next VK release comes along 😭😂😂

"It was always you."
When I saw the blurb for this one, I instantly added it to my TBR. As always, Vi Keeland did not disappoint me. I wasn't expecting to get as engrossed in the story as I did, but that just goes to show how good I found this book to be.

"I don’t know what it is about him, but he makes me want to live more."
It's only January and I already have 2 favorite book boyfriends for 2022, because there's no way I can leave Max out of my list. He's hot, has cute dimples, and he's an amazing guy all around. He's easygoing, lives in the moment, listens, he's considerate, and man, he should be real because... all of the above.

"What I liked best was that she seemed to know who she was, and while she could poke fun, she was also proud and unashamed. Too many women wanted to be someone else."
I really liked Georgia too. She's been placed in an impossible position, and while I wouldn't have handled it the way she did, I understand her reasons. She's a thinker and a planner, and also successful, driven, and caring. As always, I loved that she knows what she wants and isn't afraid to get it.

"Magic, sweetheart," he said. "We’re going to make magic."
Georgia is waiting for her blind date when Max comes in and pretends to be him. It seems too good to be true, and it really is, because he's not the guy. He simply saw her there and had to meet her. When he admits to having misled her, he also gives her tickets to a hockey game where he'll be that night – it's only when she gets there that she realizes he'll actually be playing the game. The simple fact that she takes the chance and goes to the game is proof that the chemistry between them is there from the start, and it's undeniable.

"This is the second time I’m leaving you, and each time it gets harder not to kiss you goodbye." (...) "I want to kiss you so fucking bad."
Max is being traded to California after the summer. Georgia is in an open relationship with her boyfriend who is coming back after the summer. So none of them are looking for something lasting, just a little fun for a few months, nothing serious. Seemingly, they're both on the same page.

"He kissed me like we were the only two people in the world, even standing on a busy Manhattan street, like he had to kiss me, rather than wanted to."
Max, however, has been wrapped up in her from the start. It's all there since they first met for him. In a way, so is Georgia, but her special circumstances hold her back. But Max is just too much. He really listens to what she says and he shows her he's there for her every step of the way. Instead of wanting her despite all she is, he wants her because of who she is. All of her. So falling for him becomes as easy as breathing.
Bear in mind this is slow burn, so it takes them a while, but I loved the tension between them.

"Can’t be anyone else, since I haven’t noticed another woman since the day I walked by that bar and saw her smiling."
This is everything I enjoy in romance. More than anything else, it made me feel everything that was happening on these pages, and root for their happiness. Other things, and just life, threaten to get in the way of them, but it doesn't really matter. It's always been them, from the start.
What started as a summer proposal becomes a happily ever after none of them can walk away from. And I loved each step of their journey.

***spoilers***

how often do you get (randomly) approaced by a (hot) stranger and they end up being your soulmate? often enough to the former, but never to the latter? 😂

“I just…I saw you sitting at the bar through the window when I was passing by, and you had such a pretty smile. I came over to introduce myself, and it was clear you were here to meet someone else. I guess I sort of panicked that you weren’t going to talk to me since I wasn’t Adam. So I went with it.”

last time i checked, people tend to do that because they wanted to sell you something. but this book gave a more appealing and romantic prospect to that idea. as unlikely to happen as it seemed, i loved the fact that the H was just casually strolling down the sidewalk when he saw the h and decided to approach her.

people freaked out over the fact that the h was in an open relationship, but honestly i didnt have any issues with it. maybe bcs the guy was out of the picture most of the time. even though he did sound like a douche, his explanation for his absence was understandable (even if still dickish).

its clear that the h was in the relationship more than her guy, but i feel like she wouldnt have fallen in love with the H if she was already in one with her BF. though whos to say you cant be in love with two people at the same time? in any case, it worked out for the best in the end.

if anything, the thing that kinda got to me was the aneurysm. im glad that it didnt become an integral part of the story cause i dont like reading about sick character. on the other hand, it also sorta blindsided me when it was revealed that the H had the disease (even though the author did give hints).

“If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it’s yours. If not, go fuck yourself because you were an idiot for letting it go in the first place.”

the other thing that really irked me was the H pushing the h away. i mean, after everything?! 😩 im glad that the h came into conclusion about her (open) relationship with her dude on her own and she ended things. but i seriously thought the H would try to talk her into it and asked her to be with him.

🤪disclaimer:🤪

idk how to rate VK & PW books anymore cause at this point im just reading them out of obligation to their book cover models. this was the first time i recognized the guy on the cover, and i feel like being smug about it. not bcs im a particular fan of his, but just bcs i know of him.

their books are mediocre at best, and they ought to belong within the 3 to 3.5 stars range. but to me, it also doesnt feel right cause i tend to enjoy them. so as long as nothing bothered me or drove me up the wall, i usually rounded up the rating to 4 stars.

so dont read too much into it, cause i do believe these authors cant go beyond being mediocre. whoops. on that thought, me being generous and giving their books more credits than they deserve, does that mean im perpetuating their mediocre-ness?? 👀 👉👈

“If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it’s yours. If not, go fuck yourself because you were an idiot for letting it go in the first place.”

lemme just say i liked some parts, i hated others. i think i would've loved this book if the heroine was a bad bitch instead of this girl who doesn't want to hurt a fucking fly. and two if it weren't so insta lovey. i liked that it made me laugh and smile (the hero has dimples and thats my weakness in life).

anyway, bitch has a fiancé who is basically openly cheating on her and instead of being a bad bitch, she’s like oh no i don’t wanna do anything bc i still love him. girl, he’s banging half of britain bc YOU allowed it, suck it up, and go fuck too. this whole open relationship (semi love triangle crap) is great and all but only when the girl is a badass. i don’t like it when they are manipulated and used. why why why?? i don’t understand what's so nice reading about a heroine who has no fucking spine. she does get better at the end of the book, this was in the beginning that i wanted her to go and be with other people.

“How do you think it would make me feel? I haven’t slept for a week, ever since I heard you were dating someone. It fucking sucks. I love you, and you’re with another man.”
“But you don’t love me enough to be faithful while you’re gone. You do know we could have visited each other and made it work long distance.”

i can't. her ex is the most disgusting man on this planet. i think i got triggered because men in real life are like that and i just couldn't handle it. i did however love that she stuck up to herself. bc that man is a big red red red flag.

“None of this is your fault, Georgia. I’m not trying to make you feel bad. But you asked how I could let you go, and it was never because I didn’t love you enough, it was because I do love you enough to let go so I can try to fix me. I want to be the man you deserve.”

first of all, fuck gabriel. second of all, i hate men. yes he’s trying to make her feel bad. he’s the one who wanted to openly cheat on her. fuck men who manipulate. the minute he sees that she’s dating someone else, he goes and says “i didn’t expect you to do that, i’m hurt bla bla fucking bla” so its ok for you to go and hook up but its suddenly a problem for her?

“He wants to close our open relationship.”
Maggie rolled her eyes. “Of course he does. Because open relationship meant other women opened their legs for him, but you kept yours closed.”

i LOVE her best friend. she was so real and just never sugar-coated shit for her and i love that.

so overall, i hated the parts that really triggered me because i honestly was scared that she would go back to her ex and i couldn't handle it. even tho she didn't, the process was scaring me ok. i did skip the epilogue because i was kinda done with them at that point.

I was equal parts intrigued and repulsed by the premise. The reason Georgia only wants things temporary isn't in the cover copy, but it turns out (this comes up soon enough I don't consider it a spoiler) that she's in an "open relationship". Not by choice. No, her fiancé is abroad for a year for his job and just told her he wants to sleep around while there. I mean, at least dudeface was honest about it? But I have to admit that I just don't get this aspect of the story. Not that idiot boy would want that, but that Georgia would just accept it.

You see, the rest of her backstory has Georgia being a pretty high-powered founder of a thriving business. And one of dudeface's big complaints is that she spends so much time on her business. The one she built up from scratch and has been working at during their entire relationship. So he's a complaining crapweasel and what is it about her that she's even in this relationship? It makes no sense.

Anyway, I put that aside because Max is kind of awesome and the wish-fulfillment was a nice aspect of the story. Also, it was great seeing them connect and find how very compatible they are. Plus, I really liked Max's respect and care for Georgia.

It was a drag when the crapweasel showed up to spike things, but at least Keeland showed how they (Max and Georgia) communicated and worked together through that bit. It was a high-point of the novel because Max didn't push or get all macho even though he wanted to. His respect for Georgia was a major selling point and he sold it hard in those scenes. Only to throw it all away right after.

Because then he pulls the lamest dark moment by making unilateral relationship decisions and not only hurts Georgia way more than her idiot ex ever did, but he shuts her out of any information about his reasons why. And they break. Both of them. And I don't see coming back from how bleak that was—including a really bleak sex scene I'm not fond of.

Keeland has Georgia go all forgiving, but I still don't understand why. Unless this is part of her being a doormat that began with the "open" shinola she was putting up with before? Only that's not good. I dunno. I honestly don't get that whole section and resolution. It broke me from the story and tanked everything from before. I'm going to give this 2½ stars and I'm not bothering to round up. I thought I'd go with three stars initially, but reliving all the stupid for this review has me going the other way. The middle of the story didn't suck. That's the best I've got.

A note about Steamy: There are a handful of explicit sex scenes putting this in the upper range of my steam tolerance. Some of that is how it was all sex-olympics quality stuff. Only, I'm not sure they qualify for amateur status. Is that still a thing? It isn't is it? So yeah, definitely sex Olympics shenanigans taking place. They got skillz, is what I'm saying. Yes. Both of them.

Overall Opinion: This started off excellent! I loved the blind date crashing and how they bantered at first. It just, sadly, didn’t hold up to the amazing start for me. The h was an over thinker and that got a little annoying. The H felt a little too good to be true at times, but I liked him. I did feel like they had some good chemistry — so there is that. I was really disappointed in the ending. Even the conflict felt too rushed in a resolution and the epilogue was only a tease into their future together. So while this started out great, it ended up just being a little better than 3 “just okay” stars for me.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Georgia and Max’s story. Georgia is out on a blind date and hitting it off with the sexy guy when her actual blind date shows up. Max couldn’t help himself and leaves her a hockey ticket to meet up later if she felt the same connection he did. She does, only things are complicated because she is in an open relationship with another man in London. Max doesn’t want to let her go, so he proposes that they have a fling over the summer and enjoy their connection for that time only. Big life changes happen, feelings start to develop, and there are some sexy times…and they get a HFN ending.

Point Of View (POV): This alternated between Georgia and Max’s POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good until the end. I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well otherwise.

Instalove: No, but instant connection

H (Hero) rating: 4 stars. Max. I liked him. He was a little too perfect though 😅

h (heroine) rating: 3.5 stars. Georgia. I appreciated her strength and how she tried to do the right thing even though her overthinking got a little annoying.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: Not technically

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This was one of those where the big conflict was resolved and then it jumped right into the epilogue. It wasn’t nearly enough closure for me, I had a lot of unanswered questions, and I’d call this a HFN ending

Safety: This one should be Safe for most safety gang readers

Her Perfectly Matched Shoes

A sweet and sexy fling-to-forever romance where no strings turned into wanting it all.

Georgia is a successful woman and ready to get out there and date. When her blind date mishap leads her to Max, her organized life is about get a whole lot more fun but equally as complicated.

Max is a professional hockey player with a killer smile. They don’t call him Pretty Boy for nothing. However, we’ll get all the sweet and swoon as this guy is determined to get the girl, even if it’s just for the summer.

Together they’ll find adventure and their hearts may just lead the way. You know it won’t be that easy. Vi will throw in some twists along the way to keep things interesting. She created a strong female character that embraces her success and a man that supports her in every way. He is thoughful and his possessiveness was just enough to make his feelings known. A family man at heart, he knows how to treat the woman he loves.

They’ll face obstacles, but love will conquer all.

I know the year just started, but Max Yearwood is my new book-boyfriend! But let me back up a bit. THE SUMMER PROPOSAL by Vi Keeland is a sweet and sexy romance that tugged at my heartstrings in all the best ways.

When successful business owner Georgia Delaney decided to dip her pinkie in the dating pool by going on a blind date, she couldn’t have been happier when an attractive and witty man with whom she instantly connected sat beside her at the bar.

That is until her real date arrived. But before the gorgeous Max left, he gave her a ticket to a hockey game at the Garden. Little did Georgia know that her fake blind date was NHL star Max Yearwood, who upon see her smile was determined to get to know her.

Georgia wasn’t really looking for a serious relationship though and Max was moving to California at the end of the summer. Thus, his summer proposal to her: have fun together during the summer and then go their separate ways. Win-win, right?

The Summer Proposal is an incredible addition to Vi Keeland’s catalog. It’s warm, sexy, witty and it has Max Yearwood! He’s not just all chiseled abs, a gorgeous face and big dimples. He’s smart and funny. He’s thoughtful and generous, easygoing and spontaneous, and appreciates a smart woman.

The story is full of irresistible romance and toe-curling chemistry with enough heat to melt the ice in a hockey rink.

The Summer Proposal is a standalone contemporary romance by Vi Keeland. It’s told from both points of view with a happy ending. Tropes: sports| love triangle

I really enjoyed this but I can see where others would have issues with the storyline. Georgia is in an "open" relationship with her ex fiance when she meets Max. I wouldn't really consider it an open relationship tho, more of a break really since her ex fiance isn't even in the country and left for like a year. I did appreciate that she was open and honest with Max from the beginning. They were really great together, I loved their banter and chemistry. The side characters were fun too. Maggie was such a fun friend and Max's family was awesome. I didn't get why the past chapters were there, they really were kind of pointless. Unless it was to reveal something about his past relationship with Teagan, I think they could've been left out. It was obvious where the storyline was headed with Max's health anyway. Overall fun story with a few emotional moments and some great steam!

If you love a meet-cute as much as I love a meet-cute, you’re in for a real treat with The Summer Proposal. I was hooked immediately by the playful banter and adorable chemistry between Max and Georgia. The circumstances of their meeting was as charming as Max Yearwood himself and when I say that? I mean this story, and this hero, was positively loaded with charm.

AHH! I loved him so much. I mean, I loved loved him. Even when I wanted to give him a good shake, I loved him. He was the sort of dreamy hero you hope for in every romance novel you pick up: smart, funny, romantic, devilishly dirty, and deeply smitten with his heroine. The fact that he was a sexy hockey player didn’t hurt anything either. And I loved the bond he built with Georgia – who was strong, but a little closed off and a little harder for me to fall for. This was interesting because I share a lot of the same traits with Georgia – it’s just that those traits I share with her are probably not my most charming traits and that may be why I didn’t feel as close to her in the end as compared to Max.

Regardless, I did love them both together and I did love the way Georgia loved Max in the end. The story was deliciously dramatic, emotional, and spicy sweet. If you’re familiar with Vi Keeland’s work, you’ll know that there’s always some emotional twists and turns, and the build up to this one had me compulsively flipping pages – not only because I was so enamored with the love story, but also because I was desperate to know what was going on. There were some heavy hits delivered to my heart, and some parts where I kept reading with bated breath. But in the end, it was all so worth it – my heart was so exhilarated and happy with Max and Georgia’s happily-ever-after. ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

Holy heck, if you’re a sports romance lover, pick up Vi Keeland’s The Summer Proposal today!

I was sucked into Max and Georgia’s romance from their meet-cute and didn’t close my kindle until I finished!

I adored Max. He’s the perfect balance of smart, sexy, and fun. He’d give the shirt off his back to his family or friends. He’s much loved. And he’s bound and determined to wring every bit of fun and romance out of his short term summer fling. Because that’s all it can be—temporary.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s been through the wringer already. “On a break” from her fiancé, who abruptly decided he needed a space and time and sex with other women sabbatical. Uh, okay. So she’s trying to figure out if she should date, or wait. And then she meets Max, and all bets are off.

I loved Max and Georgia. Loved their instant connection. Their relationship just felt real—even if fast. They just worked. ~ Missy, 4.5 stars

Okay, I had a little bit of trouble with this at first. The heroine (Georgia), is on a year long break from her writer/teacher fiancé who has moved to London for a year to find himself. He promises he loves her and will be back in a year and in the meantime let’s have an ‘open’ relationship. Meaning he gets to have meaningless hookups while she goes through the motions trying to date yet saving her heart for her idiot fiancé. Now Georgia is a hard working, driven, very successful entrepreneur (she has an eternity roses business), and I think that her boyfriend is a little intimidated by her success. ..

While Georgia forces herself to go out on a blind date she meets a sexy, dimpled Adonis who passes himself off as her date, until the real date shows up. Sexy dimples and Georgia connected in the short time they spent together, and he invites her to tonight’s hockey game if she feels there’s no connection to her real blind date. Georgia takes him up on the offer, but when he doesn’t show up she stays at the game anyhow. And then she sees his smiling dimpled face on the Jumbotron. Dimples is hockey star Max Yearwood!

Max and Georgia continue the vibe they have going and it turns out not only are they physically attracted to each other, they connect emotionally. Georgia fills Max in on her situation with her boyfriend, and while Max thinks he’s an idiot to leave Georgia unattended, he’s only too happy to step in. They come to an arrangement to date for the summer, and then Max will go on his way since he’s going to sign with a new team in California and Georgia’s idiot fiancé will be back in the picture soon after. Easy peasy no danger of either one falling for the other, right! Ha.

My issue was with Georgia. Why would she let this fiancé treat her this way? Once he started sleeping with other women she should’ve ended it. And when she and Max started sleeping together (some hottt stuff) and had lots of fun exploring NYC and spending every waking moment with each other….why didn’t she end it with fiancé? I don’t want to spoil what finally got her to realize her feelings for Max, but when she did of course there were complications…

Now Max I loved. He was a wonderful guy. But he had this secret…And he should’ve revealed this secret to not only Georgia, but to his new team. In fact, his new team could’ve voided his huge new contract but I won’t go there (I preferred to suspend disbelief here). Anyway, I eventually figured out the secret (I’ve read this plot in a few other books) and I knew what was coming for Georgia (the whole ‘I love you but you deserve better’ thing). So why did I tear up anyway? I guess you’ll have to read it to see.🙂

This was going to be a solid 4 star read but I’ll bump it up a half since it got me to cry.🤷🏻‍♀️

📚“Women tend to not like Star Wars for some reason,” he said. “Or a grown man carrying around an action figure.”
“I actually like Star Wars.”
He put his hand over his heart. “A beautiful woman who likes Star Wars? Should we skip the formalities and just grab a flight to Vegas to get married?”

📚“You waited…”
I reached into my pocket and pulled out Yoda, holding it up in my palm. “I had to give this back. You said you were superstitious.”
He took it from my hand and slipped it back into my jacket pocket. Then he laced his fingers with mine. “I am. I just had the best game of my career. So guess where Yoda needs to be for every game from now on?”
“Where?”
“In my girl’s coat pocket while she sits in my seat.”
“Oh, I’m your girl now, am I?”
He swung our joined hands. “Maybe not yet. But the night is young.”

📚“I take it you don’t cook much?” I passed her a bowl of soup and a spoon and sat down with my own on the couch next to her. “Your cabinets are pretty bleak.”
“Yeah, not really. I work late a lot, and it sort of sucks to cook for one person.”
“Are you hinting that you’d like to make dinner for me? Because if you are, I accept.”
She laughed. “What about you? Do you cook?”
“Now you want me to cook for you? Make up your mind, woman.”

📚”Thank God I only had brothers, because I can’t take seeing girls cry. Keri, the woman I dated for eighteen months a couple of years back, cried when I told her I wanted to end things. I gave her my car.”
I laughed, but Max didn’t. “Oh my God. You’re joking, right?”
He shook his head and shrugged. “It made her stop crying.”
“Wow. Okay…well, I’ll keep that in mind if I’m having a hard time getting my way with you.”
Max looked at me tenderly. He brushed his knuckles along my cheek. “Trust me, you won’t have a hard time getting anything from me.”😍😍😍

📚”…you know the old saying. If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it’s yours. If not, go fuck yourself because you were an idiot for letting it go in the first place.”

I very rarely do reviews about books I stop reading, as I almost always finish every single book I read. I can deal with almost everything...but there was a major element regarding this book that was not part of the blurb causing me to step away.

I truly loved the fella, he and his family rocked.
So there ya go, me sharing a book I stopped reading. Disappointed.

Hopefully, the next book from this author will be more to my mindset.

3 Georgia and Max Stars

There were parts of this book that I really enjoyed and at times I was thinking I would likely rate it higher , but I really didn't connect with the heroine , Georgia , at all.

Initially , this had a great many of the things in a romance that I enjoy , Ice Hockey Hero , humour and a fairly fun sounding plot of a Summer long relationship that may become more. Sign me up!
I dived in and the start was funny - Max (29) , our Hero, walks into a bar where Georgia (28), is waiting for her blind date to show up. She thinks Max is her date and he plays along for a while until the real date rocks up. I really loved Max. He was confident and bold but not arrogant. He was funny and charming and I was a tad smitten with him.

Then we have Georgia....who apparently is in an 'Open relationship' with her ex-fiance, Gabriel, who is currently 'Banging Brits' in the UK and 'finding himself' because he has been through a lot.

Had I known that she was in an open relationship and that this felt , at times, very much like a love triangle, I would have gone in with different expectations of the book. More fool me perhaps for not reading more reviews but I had been very keen to read this when it came out earlier this month.

Georgia really irritated me and I honestly felt far more interested in her best friend, Maggie. She was an absolute riot and far, far more intriguing as a character. I wanted her story more than Georgia's.
I think what I found difficult was how much Georgia dithered. I did not like the whole premise of the ex and the open relationship aspect. I would have preferred her to have cut ties with Gabriel and just be a little hesitant of having a relationship again - it could still have been a Summer fling but the spectre of the ex (and then his arrival on page) just felt off somehow. A couple of times I was expecting angst that never really came to anything - like when the make up artist hits on Max and he lets her have his number to send across some photos of a photo shoot with him and his dog. I was fully expecting some mini drama where the persistent woman sends a flirty message and the heroine sees it etc etc but it didn't happen. It just fizzled to nothing.

Max is a great hero and I understood his reasoning for keeping Georgia at bay. I wasn't overly keen on the flashback to ten years earlier when he was with another woman although I get why we had that.

There are lots of great reviews out there for this book and this is just my own opinion - what is a five star for some is not for others. I certainly enjoyed parts of it very much but ultimately the heroine was a huge miss for me and this is not a book I would read again. The cover is gorgeous and I listened and read. Narration by Andi Arndt and Sebastian York was superb , as always.

HEA? Yes . Epilogue is two years in the future and I would say it was HFN.
Cheating? The heroine is in an open relationship with her ex fiancé (his decision definitely not hers) who has moved abroad. She has not slept with anyone else since he moved away and she is initially very reluctant to be physical with Max as she still feels like she would be cheating on her ex. Her ex has been having sex with other women. She does end things with the ex after her and Max have had sex. Max is very loyal.

Separation? Only briefly - a few weeks.

Be aware - loss of an adult sibling , loss of a parent (off page).

The Summer Proposal by Vi Keeland is releasing on January 10, 2022. A few days earlier, and it would have landed on my Best of 2021 list. I was a third of the way into this book, and that’s when I knew that I was head-over-heels for Max and Georgia, and totally invested in these characters. Their relationship made me fall in love (again) with Vi’s writing. TSP is one of the books that reinvigorated my love of romance books. These characters couldn’t be more perfect. This hockey romance pucked with my heart. You’re going to pucking love Georgia and Max!

I propose that you one-click The Summer Proposal on 1/10 and start the new year off with this perfect romance! This winter release will warm your heart!

Everything Vi Keeland writes is perfection. I was hooked with The Summer Proposal from beginning to end. Max and Georgia are the type of characters that you really root for and they get in your system making you live their story to the maximum. I was totally invested in them. Vi Keeland's books always take me to the reading bliss I love to get when I read and The Summer Proposal totally got me there and more.

Every book that Vi Keeland writes is a one-click for me because they all have so much in common. Absolutely sexy hero? Check. Adorable meet cute? Check. Witty banter and slow, sexy build up? Check check check.

But what makes her stories so readable and not repetitive is the unique situations her characters find themselves in. Each hero and heroine is better than the last for me, and I couldn’t help but instantly fall in love with Max.

Max was quite simply, close to perfect. He was sweet, charming, and actually listened. He paid attention to Georgia and what she said. And in his mind, if the only way that these two were going to have a chance of anything was to put an expiration date on it, then so be it. It worked perfectly because he was moving and Georgia was in an open relationship with an ex-fiancé that would be returning soon.

[insert brakes screeching] Huh?? I had a hard time getting over this premise. A wonderful, sexy, hockey man is showering you with attention and affection and wanting to spend time with you and you have to think about it because you feel that you’re being disloyal to an ex-fiancé that moved your relationship into the “open” status so he could date other women while he was out of the country?

I had to suspend my disbelief here and enjoy the story despite this!

Other than my issue with this part of the premise, however, I found this book to be one that I had trouble putting down. Vi’s main characters are so engaging and perfectly flawed. Her supporting characters are quirky and snarky (looking at you Maggie), and the banter is snappy and made me read it with a smile on my face. I always know that there is going to be the lead-up to the climax in the story where I am going to be feeling full of angst and on edge until it resolves itself, and I have to just get past that in order to have the happily ever after that this couple deserves.

Max is the book boyfriend that everyone needs. The big guy carrying around a small dog. The pretty, dimpled man that will pamper you with spas and arial workouts, and lay the entire city at your feet. I loved my time in the Big Apple, and appreciated it even more because I got to experience it with Max and Georgia.

The Summer Proposal was a cute little romance. A blind date ends up not being the actual blind date. The H and h end up having a better time than the h and her real blind date. And so they pursue a fun summer romance without strings. Of course, we know they won’t be able to quit each other after the summer fling ends. After being super honest with each other and cutting out all the BS, the H and h both stop being honest, which is annoying. But then where would we find the conflict? Oh well. I will say while there are some romance tropes, I did enjoy the added layers to the characters. I also liked that the dialogue felt pretty realistic. Overall, a good way to spend a day reading.

Her şeyiyle aşık etti beni kendine.
