About this ebook

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.

The one that got away. Every girl has one, right?

Mine was a charming, British aristocrat who turned my world upside down one summer.

From the moment I first spotted Leo in the distance through my binoculars, I’d been captivated. I certainly never expected to find a man showering outside of the property across the bay in his birthday suit.

Then I noticed his housemate staring back at me with binoculars of his own—watching me watching Leo.

That made for an interesting conversation starter when I inevitably ran into them.

Turned out, the handsome Brits were only renting that house for the summer in my seaside town.

Leo and I formed an instant connection, even though we were technically opposites by all appearances. I taught him how to dig for clams, and he taught me that not all wealthy and powerful guys are pretentious.

Despite knowing he was totally wrong for me, I couldn’t seem to stay away.

It was a wild and crazy few months. And before I knew it, we’d fallen in love.

We both had one wish: more time together.

But Leo had obligations back home. He lived a life I’d never fit into. And I was going to law school. So, we decided to end it and never look back.

A part of me always felt like I’d let my soulmate walk away.

I believed our story was over.

Until five years later when he sent me a letter that shook me to my core.

I’d thought my world was turned upside down that first summer?

Well, I knew nothing yet.

Another amazing read from Penelope!! As always, she brings us a story that packs all the emotional punches, and one heck of a first meeting. Leo was charmy and swoony and every girl's fantasy! Felicity was grounded and knew exactly what she wanted to accomplish in life. Her backstory was touching and I loved how far she's come in her young life, despite how she grew up and the challenges she had faced. Leo and Felicity had an instant attraction to each other but this story is a slow burn, until these two just can't resist anymore. And once that happens, Penelope certainly wrote some smoking hot love scenes! I really loved two particular secondary characters, two steadfast people that wholly supported Leo and Felicity. I really was not prepared for the surprise twist that happens in the second half of the story, it really gave my heart a jolt. This story will definitely have you feeling a plethora of emotions. I laughed, I teared up, I felt angst, worry and fear, sadness and then finally, hope again. I did struggle a bit to feel an emotional connection to the characters, but overall, Penelope once again knocks it out of the park with this story. Ladies are going to fall all over Leo with his dashing good looks and British accent. And more than a few will be chasing after that cheeky cousin of his, Sigmund! I really hope we see Sigmund get his own story in the future, as he really was a character that I grew to love.

THE ARISTOCRAT by Penelope Ward is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, romance story line focusing on British born aristocrat Leo Covington, and American law student Felicity Dunleavy, Told from dual first person perspectives (Leo and Felicity) THE ARISTOCRAT following two time lines, focuses on the relationship between twenty-four year old American law student Felicity Dunleavy, and twenty-eight year old British aristocratic heir Leo Covington. Leo Covington and his cousin Sigmund had scheduled a six month sabbatical in the USA but Leo never expected to fall in love with his cross the bay neighbor Felicity Dunleavy. A whirlwind romance of several months quickly ends when Leo is called home to pay respects to his ailing father, leaving a heart broken Felicity behind. Fast forward five years wherein Felicity returns home to discover a letter from Leo, a letter that proclaimed his love for the woman he left behind but all was not well upon Felicity’s arrival in the UK, an arrival met with more heart break and pain than our couple could have imagined. The relationship between Felicity and Leo is a forbidden affair as Leo is expected to court and marry a woman of breeding. Felicity was raised in the American foster system and a law degree from Harvard would never make up for her earlier life.Leo knew going into the affair with Felicity meant only heart break in the end, but our couple were willing to fight the fight knowing they would never be allowed their own happily ever after-together. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. We are introduced to Felicity’s foster mother Mrs. Angelina, as well as Leo’s cousin Sigmund. Here’s hoping the author has plans for Sigmund Benedictus, whose back story is shrouded in heart break and pain. THE ARISTOCRAT is a story of forbidden love; a story of opposites attract, a story of heartache and loss. The premise is twisted, tragic and emotional; the romance is energetic and tender; the characters are flirty, realistic and imaginative.

Another fantastic story by Penelope Ward. The angst is real in this one. Leo is absolutely swoon worthy. Leo and Felicity’s chemistry is on fire! You will go through a gamut of feelings in this beautiful yet heartbreaking storyline. It’s definitely worth the read.
