Not Pretending Anymore Kindle Edition
Finding a good roommate through a classified ad isn’t as easy as it sounds.
I was starting to lose hope.
Until a knock at my door came and God answered my prayers.
Except…uh…wrong prayer, God.
I’d definitely requested the big guy find me a drop-dead gorgeous man on more than one occasion...just not as my roommate.
Declan Tate talked me into interviewing him anyway.
While he was amusing and charismatic, I wouldn’t have been comfortable living with a man, so I regretfully declined.
Then cupcakes showed up at my door—freshly baked by Declan and just as sinfully delicious as he was.
You could say he was persistent.
I eventually folded. It wasn’t like I had another viable candidate anyway.
Plus, I was interested in someone else. And Declan was into another woman. So it wasn’t like anything would happen romantically.
After he moved in, the two of us became the best of friends. We even started to give each other advice on getting our crushes to notice us.
Eventually, Declan concocted an idea: we should pretend to be a couple to make our love interests jealous.
I was hesitant, but went along with it anyway. To my utter shock, his crazy plan worked.
Now I was dating the supposed man of my dreams, and my best friend had the woman of his.
But there was one problem.
I couldn’t stop thinking about Declan.
Those feelings we were trying to fake?
Yeah…I wasn’t pretending anymore.

- Reviewed in Australia on 12 April 2021Verified PurchaseI m not a jaded reader, but I have read just about everything there is to read in the vast and varied romance genre. I think to myself all the time that I have read something similar and just as memorable. That was not the case with Not Pretending Anymore. I was moved beyond all comprehension by Declan. He was this super charismatic guy that did not take no for an answer and went after what he wanted with a steely determination, all while maintaining this constant and enviable wicked sense of humour. He needed a room to rent. The leading lady had one. Simple, right? This couple led each other on a merry dance. It was hilarious, witty, original and so, so captivating. Their relationship evolved into a beautiful friendship. Then they became more. The intensity between them built slowly and it was achingly sensual. Their attraction was stronger than magnetic, and feelings developed quicker than either were prepared for.
This friends to lovers story was the highlight of my year. It was absolutely everything and I still cannot stop thinking about Declan. His personality was larger than life, and even through his personal struggles, he still maintained his energetic and devilish sense of humour and the biggest heart of any character I have ever had the pleasure of reading about. He was unjaded and just a delight. He made this story sing, and I adore him and his lady. 5 stars.

- Reviewed in Australia on 19 April 2021Verified PurchaseI loved this story. It was entertaining, funny, emotional and thought provoking. I liked that the book started with both Molly and Declan trying to win other people. I just wish that Molly didn’t persist with Will for so long. The chemistry, fun, friendship and heat between Molly and Declan was always so good! Too good to resist.
- Reviewed in Australia on 19 April 2021Verified PurchaseThe first 1/3 of the book was a bit......off like it just seemed to be too fast to get in to the thick of things. Towards the middle it started to pan out a little better and I could finally see a much more delicate story being told in the background. Male mental health issues are vastly under represented in books mainly because women need men to save them and we like to read about being saved by the masculine hero but this time our hero Declan is raw and believable and I think it’s written in an entirely accurate way. The book was pretty predictable but still worthwhile for the warm and fuzzies.
- Reviewed in Australia on 25 April 2021Verified PurchaseDeclan needed a room for six months and Molly needed to rent out a room for six months.
Sounds perfect right!
From the first page this story worked. I needed something fun and romantic and the girls have delivered again. I found myself smiling and chuckling my way through this story as Declan and Molly worked through their feelings and personal fears as they began to open up to each other.
I enjoyed this read, it was fun and flirty and just what I needed.

- Reviewed in Australia on 4 July 2021Verified PurchaseI absolutely loved how the author captured the emotions of such events like Molly’s father passing and the longing for each other, this wasn’t a smut book but a genuine book of love, respect and even sadness I literally cried once her father passed and I never knew a book could ever make me do that.
Absolutely love this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars To be read

5.0 out of 5 stars All the feels
Verified PurchaseIt’s rare for me not to like a book by this dynamic duo, and I doubt this book is my favourite, but only because that would be like choosing a favourite child!
What I can say is that Not Pretending Anymore has all the feels. Brilliantly constructed, wonderful banter, fabulous characters and character growth, serious tones and sensual tones, a story impossible to put down, this book was a winner.
I actually want to go back to the beginning and start again, but that’s hard in this type of story. It’s a funny, delicious slow burn set amongst hard, and sensitively tackled real-life challenges. And that’s probably why I felt it was so good. The depth of insight showed intelligence and wisdom. And kindness. And humanity.
Perhaps this is my favourite after all. I’m a fussy reader, and if you are too, if you like to be moved by excellent storytelling to snorting laughter, desolate tears, gooey swooning, and some introspective thinking, this is your book too. Do yourself a favour. Grab this book and lock yourself away to devour this wonderfully moving story of hope in forever love.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true friend-to-lovers book!
Verified PurchaseThis book was something special!!
Declan and Molly’s story was one of those which is so easy to read and love, one that you once you start, you don’t want to put it down.
Their relationship started with a fun friendship, where they supported each other in the difficult moments. I simply loved to see them getting closer and closer, forming a bond you don’t often see in romance novels.
This is not a book for you, if you expect insta-love and scorching hot chemistry. They take their sweet time to be together, and that could have been a negative point (that they just get together at the end), but in my opinion it made the story much more interesting, having that anticipation of wanting them together, of wanting them to realize they should be with each other.
Molly was a character that had a lot going on in her life. I think the situation with her dad made her a bit blind for what she had going on around her in the men department. She could have been with Declan since the first half of the book, but it was totally understandable for me why she chose the path that she did. Sometimes you just want something to feel safe and have real prospects in your life. So I don’t judge her decisions.
Declan was a sweetheart. I would love to have a lover/friend like him. His compassion towards Molly was amazing, him putting her before himself was priceless. I loved that he did that, and I also understand where those feelings came from, but in the end it was all because he loved her and because he was a true friend and a good hearted person.
It was inevitable that they would fall in love with each other. And that was beautiful to see.
I loved their story, their chemistry, and that end that got me in tears.

5.0 out of 5 stars The way to a roomies heart is via a cup cake
Verified PurchaseThis magnificent duo, write excellent books both individually and most definitely together. The topics covered always have meaning and a lot of research has been obviously done not only on said topics but also characters. Declan applies to be a roomie at Molly’s flat, only he is male, but the previous candidates are totally female but so not suitable. There is humour , there is happiness, there is a warmth permeating through the characters, but there is also sadness. Tissue time!! And there is also beautifully romantic scenarios. Well written as ever, flows well, and keeps the reader immersed in a totally believable storyline. A feeling of a really good book, to escape into overwhelming absorbing right from the start. A total joy.
