- Reviewed in Australia on 26 January 2020Verified PurchaseWhen I started to read this book I wasn't sure about it. I found the first chapter not intriguingly good. In fact i nearly didn't continue to read it. But I was very glad I did. The plot developed along nicely, the characters have depth and are believable. The story has me very interested in the outcome as sadly it's not a stand alone but the first part of a trilogy, so dear read I will now have to wait for the next installment, I hope you enjoy this book too
- Reviewed in Australia on 12 June 2022The Tarnished Crown Trilogy is a story of epic love and loss that spans two countries at war. It tells the tale of a princess that was raised as a chandelier, the second in line unneeded accessory to the crown whose only role was to be pretty and distract from the more brutal aspects of the monarchy. However, Blair is not an ordinary princess and she lives a rather extraordinary life alongside her childhood love turned bodyguard and the kingmaker of the neighboring country in a love story that will sweep you away in a tale of suspense, heartbreak and political intrigue.
The Tarnished Crown Trilogy is told in three perspectives across each book, with each major character taking a turn in the role of storyteller. I thought this was a brilliant choice by the author as it allowed us to hear from each character without making the journey become disjointed. The characters in this book were exceptionally written with their depth and passion exuding from the pages and the hidden elements that the author held back continuing to surprise throughout the series. Annie Dyer has set this series in an alternate Scotland that gained its independence from England a few generations ago and has its own monarchy. This trilogy is filled with suspense, drama, steamy romance and plenty of twists that will keep you guessing.
This is a reread for me as I wanted to read a series I knew would sweep me away, capture my heart and leave me emotionally satisfied. The Tarnished Crown Trilogy is a stunning read that I cannot recommend highly enough especially if you enjoy a romantic suspense with more than one man.

Tarnished Crowns Trilogy - Book One
Annie Dyer
Political intrigue at every turn. Set in an alternate Scotland this royal drama will keep you breathless from the very start.
“There are screams outside. Shouting. The sharp screech of tyres against asphalt. Nothing unusual for a big city, but this isn’t a usual day and something in the air has changed, switched. Particles have stilled, the city has become a paused movie, waiting for the thunder.”
The first half or more of this story we meet Blair, a princess by birth not choice. She is a force who knows her own mind. We meet her child hood crush, her bodyguard Ben. Later we meet Isaac.
Not you typical Annie Dyer book, this is darker and very blunt. It is not a read for the easily offended. Despite finding it quite a confronting read it ended too soon! This is the first book in the Tarnished Crown trilogy and I can’t wait to read the rest. I have to see how the web catches and weaves the players. I really like the political intrigue in this book it has grit and real characters.
I received an ARC of this book.
- Reviewed in Australia on 7 October 2021Verified PurchaseHaving read almost all of Annie Dyer's other books I was not prepared for the brilliance of this book (and this series). Ménage romance with a political and royal twist is like catnip for me and the story of Blair - the spare heir to the Scottish throne, her bodyguard Ben and Isaac, the advisor to the PM of England ... this is a story of secrets, of love lost and found, of loss and heartache and of being true to yourself. Pick it up!! You won't be able to put it down!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A red-hot treat for you!
Verified PurchaseThis book has got everything. Love, lust, passion, deceit, secrets, and a whole lot more than you could even imagine. Chandelier’s plot is so original and addicting. I couldn’t put it down and had to read it twice. It is the first in the Tarnished Crowns trilogy and I am counting the days for Grenade and Emeralds to be released. It is so much more than a royal romance and it is twisted with politics, love, murder and betrayal.
Blair was never meant to wear the crown. She is an innocent who is caught up in a sinister plot to destroy her father’s throne. When she unwillingly becomes the next heir, her childhood love, Ben, returns as her body guard. She needs to guard her heart from him, but he is the only one who can keep her safe. As things reach a boiling point, so does their chemistry. Adding fuel to the blaze, they befriend Isaac, the advisor to their enemy. The three of them discover a love deeper than secrets and pain, but only time will tell if their love will withstand the political divide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great rea. Intrigue, sex and two men wanting the same woman
Verified PurchaseBlair is a Scottish princess and knows that her time is not her own. Ben, someone who she has loved for along time becomes her bodyguard and they have an impossible relationship. Everything has to be in secret and at times he cannot cope with the knowledge that it cant go any further. There is intrigue and danger as the Prime Minister of England fancies her and his adviser Isaac has eyes for Blair. Blair, Ben and Isaac have a connection at a time when her brother is trying to make good with England. Their father the King is ill and there are people wanting to kill. Fabulous start to a very sexy story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Political Drama and Sexy Romance In One
Verified PurchaseThis book is an easy read. The premise, an independent Scotland with a revived Stewart dynasty, is gripping and Blair is an interesting heroine. The romance builds naturally and both male leads are strong and interesting. The only thing I didn’t like was the decision to start at the end and then flashback as I feel like it missed the chance for a gripping cliff hanger and also made me less invested in one of the characters as I kept waiting for the shoe to drop. Other than that, it was a great, easy read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Read
Verified PurchaseI was unsure what to expect from this book - royalty isn’t a great interest of mine but I really enjoyed this first book in the trilogy. The characters were well rounded and the story line kept me hooked. A steamy read
