- Reviewed in Australia on 3 October 2018Verified PurchaseIt took me a while to write this review, not because the book was bad, but I needed the time to absorb what I read. I needed to give this author the respect she deserves; understand truly what this story was all about and the impact it can have on anyone who reads it.
Secrets; the characters in this book both have them, but are both unwilling to share them, even if it spells the end for them both. Tobias and Izy are 2 high school students that are caught up in a horrific incident, that forever changed them. But to add to this, they both carried into that "day" their own separate "demons".
I have always loved how this author writes, her flow of words can captivate anyone from beginning to end, she has never once disappointed me. But if we are to be truly honest; she had taught me so much; to be so much more accepting and has given me an insight into the stigma surrounding mental health.
- Reviewed in Australia on 20 March 2018Verified PurchaseWhat a wonderfully well written story of abuse, self harm and healing. This book gives the reader a deeper insight into what mental health issues are out there and how they affect people. It tells of how traumatic the issue is and how love, compassion and understanding go a long way in helping the individual heal. Help is available if you stay strong and reach out. Margaret makes you feel like you are a part of the characters lives and just want to take the pain away. Recovery is a long road to travel but it will get easier if you just stay strong. This is a story everyone old or young needs to read. Thank you Margaret, I know this reader is Staying Strong.
- Reviewed in Australia on 19 March 2018Verified PurchaseThis book does not disappoint. It’s an emotionally rollercoaster ride. There are huge triggers for self harm, child abuse and depression. This book broke me but I could not put it down. It will stay with me for a very long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt and Brilliantly written
Verified PurchaseWhen the new bad boy, Tobias comes to school, he causes a bit of a frenzy. However, Tobias only seems to have eyes for Ivy. Ivy has a secret, she is a cutter. Tobias is drawn to Ivy, he knows she has demons just like he does. He is trying to control his demon but every now and again something causes a trigger and his reaction scares Ivy. Can he open up to her or will his demon destroy any future for them? Ivy keeps having nightmares and the only way to control her anxiety is to cut. When an incident happens at school, it causes a chain reaction of events. While it was devastating it also allowed Ivy to finally get the help she needed. Unfortunately, Tobias does not get help, he runs instead. Can Tobias ever deal with his demons and convince Ivy to take a chance on him. Can he get the help he needs so desperately? Ivy learns to heal and manages her life with the help of those closest to her. When her path crosses with Tobias years later, can she get over the hurt he caused her or is it wiser for her to close that door? Can she give him the chance to explain? Can two broken people mend each other hearts and keep the demons at bay. All I can say is that Margaret McHezyer is one heck of an author. It does not matter what genre she writes, or which taboo situation she writes about. She draws you in and makes you emotional about her characters flaws. Her research on the subjects, are well researched and very informative. Her writing flows and while educating us, she also tells the story with so much angst, emotion and plot twists. Her characters have demons, and yet, you will love them from the onset. All I can say is that this book was an eye opener and so much more. Once again Margaret McHezyer has shown how very talented she is.
