The one day English teacher Reagan Wild is late for work—and looks like she dressed herself in the dark—she remembers Carter Anthony, a well-known football star, is coming to the school to deliver a talk to her overexcited students.
While Reagan knows Carter from her high school days, since he was her past crush, she wasn’t ready to see him again. At the time, she hated being invisible. But right now, she wished she could simply disappear.
Carter Anthony is keen to give back to his hometown, but what he doesn’t expect is getting something in return. When a chance encounter with Reagan, the shy girl from his past, happens, he knows instinctively this woman is supposed to be in his life.
With an embarrassing ability to blurt out whatever’s on her mind, Reagan doesn’t understand Carter’s attention. She has no doubt, though, he’ll soon realize his mistake when he discovers just how crazy she and her family are. But no matter what he sees, what he hears, or how her looney family behaves, he doesn’t run. In fact, Carter’s family seem just as unique as hers.
Through dog poop, naked yoga, and the paparazzi’s, can Carter and Reagan have any hope in love, even when it’s fumbled?
Reagan is a high school english teacher, loves her job and the kids. She is kind of shy BUT watch out if she gets frazzled or anxious she just blurts random stuff and has absolutely no filter at all, which makes for a great read.
Reagan was a refreshing character, she was smart, independant, sassy, funny as hell and just real.
Carter is a very popular pro footballer but wants a simpler life so decides he'll retire at the end of the season and move back home. While in his hometown looking for a place to live he visits the local high school to talk to the students and spies a stunning creature and helps her out of a sticky situation (hehehe). Only the stunning lady just happens to be the girl he secretly crushed on in high school, little does Carter know but Reagan had a major crush on him also. The only problem was Carter was a douche back in high school and was friends with Jocks that used to bully big girls including Reagan so Carter wouldn't do anything about his attraction to Reagan all because his friends didn't like her......total douche!!
Of course Carter is nothing like that anymore and is determined to prove it to Reagan, I found myself falling for him right along with her. Carter and Reagan had so much chemistry.
I loved every character in this book!! They are all so funny and real. I would love to go to one of the Wild family barbecues, I would just sit back on a chair drink and laugh my ass off at all the craziness.
This book is full of hilarious moments, everything from Naked yoga to anal beads. The second half didn't have as many lol moments as the plot was more focused on Carter and Reagan's relationship but I still loved it.
If you are a lover of rom-coms or second chance romance, this is a must read.
Loved this book. Carter and Reagan were so wholesome and sweet. Both sides of their families were hilarious, and I could not put the book down. This was my first Lila Rose book; looking forward to reading more from her.
2 stars. Lowered my rating because this book is still irritating me from a distance, even a few days later.
Ok, after getting a good night of sleep, I’m finally ready (sorta kinda) to unpack all of my feelings about this book.
I’ll break them down… good, bad, and ugly style:
The Good:
This book was REALLY FUNNY, especially the first half of it. There are some parts that had me absolutely rolling with laughter… I felt like a maniac and had my husband giving me dirty looks. It’s full of awkward scenes like this:
“Carter stepped toward him, and Dad’s eyes widened a little. Carter’s hand came out. Dad looked down at it, up to him, and then down at it again before gripping it. “Good to meet you, Mr. Wild.” “Yes. Right. You too, son. You too. Drink? Snack? Chair? A nap?” Holy hell. Next, he could offer him a blowjob. I had to step in.”
The heroine is also pretty great overall. I liked her humor and personality, she seemed to have a lot of potential in general.
The Bad:
The hero is a manwhore. Never my favorite trope. But paired with a heroine who almost never dated, had a few bad hookups, and has one friend plus her parents? Not great at all.
The hero was also like a caricature of a “hot sexy built football player” I never really had a clear understanding of who he was.
I also listened to the audiobook, which was narrated by two Brits. I was very confused about England’s NFL team for a long time and then realized that they must actually be in the US, although it was never actually clarified. Seemed like an odd choice for audiobook narrators.
By the end of the book I still had no clue what either the hero or heroine actually looked like. The only image I had of either of them in my head was “chubby girl” and “very fit hot guy”. If there were descriptions in there, they were so poorly done that they just didn’t resonate in my memory at all.
The heroine is supposedly a big girl, but tbh it feels like an awkward afterthought. I don’t really seek out BBW romance books personally, but I don’t mind them either. I’ll just read whatever I think sounds good in the moment. But this book made it weird. The heroine was supposedly teased for being fat in the past, but she loved herself (for the most part) in the present. Except, she didn’t believe that the hero could ever want her for most of the book. She claimed to love herself, but not enough to think she could attract him. On top of that, after the first mention of her being overweight, it was basically a non-issue for most of the story until near the end where she’s called fat by a reporter. Her weight was just so randomly mentioned that it felt out of place to me, like the author was trying to make it a BBW romance but only because she thinks she will reach a certain audience and not because she actually saw her heroine that way.
Hero literally claims to be “in love” with the heroine after spending a week with her. She’s supposedly so special to him, but it’s unclear why. They spent like 2 minutes together and barely got to know each other. But he’s in love immediately. It made zero sense and just made me cringe.
The story is very “slow burn”. I put that in quotes because the story itself didn’t build up any kinda of feelings of anticipation for me. The sex didn’t come until the VERY VERY end, but it didn’t matter to me if it was left out at that point. The author gained nothing by waiting that long. I was ready to just be done with the story and didn’t even care about the sex.
The Ugly:
The desperate OW situation in this book is simply disgusting. The heroine is made out to be nOt LiKe tHe OtHeR GiRlS in a major way. All of those other girls are all slutty and just want the hero for his money. But the heroine is so pure in her desire for his hot bod, she could never want anyyyyything else from him. 🤡🤡
So let me elaborate about the main OW… she dated the hero in highschool. He supposedly wanted to be with the heroine, but she wasn’t socially acceptable (aka too fat) to his friends. So he dated the crazy OW for two years(!!!!) because she’s beautiful and the one who looked best on his arm. She throws herself at him right away at the start of the book, and tries to get back with him, but she will also settle for a teammate because she just wants someone wealthy and who that is doesn’t matter at all to her. SMH. OW first tells the heroine that that the hero will never be interested in her. Then when H&h are together, OW admits that she always knew that the hero wanted the heroine. 🤔🧐😂 Idk what the author was thinking… why does she have such a hard-on for making the OW a complete POS? I even think the last confession was meant as an attempt at redemption, but it made me dislike the OW even more.
What’s worse, is that the only other really “nice person” in this book is the heroine’s best friend, who is also overweight, and their families. Otherwise, all the OW presented are skinny and bitches and just clearly draw the image of how different and special the heroine is.
Also, the hero isn’t into big girls in general. No. Every single one of his MANY hookups has been with hot skinny girls. It’s mentioned how the heroine isn’t his type probably 10-15 times in this book. SO WHY THE HELL IS HE SUDDENLY SO IN LOVE WITH HER? He obviously left her behind in highschool and forgot about her and wasn’t even attracted to the body type. So like I said, the fact that she’s supposedly a BBW felt totally random while reading.
There’s also a very cringe scene where the heroine sneaks a condom out of the hero’s bag when he’s packing to go out of town. He catches her, and asks why, and she says it’s so he doesn’t have sex with anyone else. Which like, gross. That’s not cute. If he decided to have sex with someone else, it’s not her choice to take away the contraceptives. It’s a messed up scene, but hero finds it so sweet that she’s trying to be controlling and manipulative of his life. 🙃🙃🙃
The worst part of this book was the preview of the next book in the series. The hero of that book is a single parent, with an ex who he’s great friends with and a son who he leaves with a stranger (the heroine) because he’s going out on a date with a not-fat girl. The heroine assumes that he’s going to be taking her as his plus-one, but instead he meant to have her babysit while he goes out with the hot girl. He doesn’t even realize his blunder until much later. I started reading that book out of curiosity and was just plain grossed out by the details. How much more unromantic can the story behind a romance book be? Divorced single dad who’s ex is in the picture A TON, a kid from the ex who he asks the heroine to babysit, and he doesn’t even consider the heroine sexually AT ALL when he first sees her. 🙄🙄
Anyways, I wouldn’t recommend this book, but I laughed so hard at the beginning that I had to give it more than the 1 star I would give for the rest of the story.
Safety is fine, I guess. Hero was a manwhore who had lots of short flings, but no mention of others once he meets the heroine again. Heroine is much less experienced. They knew (from a distance) and were attracted to each other in highschool, but he didn’t make a move because his friends would have teased him for liking her. He’s 30 when they meet again, so I guess they are separated for 12 years. He didn’t think about her or recognize her when he first sees her. It’s all safe once the story in the present begins, although there is OW who tries to throw herself at him and tries to come between the H&h. No OM drama. No cheating, no scenes with others.

It’s been way too long since I read a book that made me laugh as much as this story did. I love a well written romantic comedy, it’s a welcome break from some of the often angst filled romances I read. This book was so much fun.
Reagan Wild is a high school english teacher and she is passionate about her job. She believes that it’s important to make each lesson fun to engage the students to be enthusiastic about learning. Her classes are filled with great banter and lots of laughing along the way. Others things you should know about her are that she is not a fan of getting out of bed in the morning and that she has no filter on her mouth – even she is surprised by the words that come out of it.
Carter Anthony is an NFL football star about to retire from the game that he has devoted his life too. He is looking to settle back in his hometown and begin a coaching career. A chance meeting with Reagan at the school she works at is about to change everything for him.
Reagan was the girl that Carter crushed on in high school. However, he was part of the popular crowd, with the stick thin cheerleader girls who turned their noses up at everyone – Reagan included. Reagan has always been a bit self conscious about her figure and the taunting from girls and boys in high school still affect her today.
When Carter starts popping up in Reagan’s daily life she gets all flustered. I mean he is absolutely gorgeous, more than she remembers in high school. He was her high school crush, one completely out of reach. She can’t figure out why he even wants to be friends with her. I love how she blurts out the most bizarre things at the most random times. Seriously, I was wiping away the tears.
Carter can’t believe that their paths have crossed again. He finds Reagan’s personality absolutely adorable. She has no idea how beautiful she is and he enjoys making her blush. He is determined to show her how much he cares about her and that includes spending time with her crazy family.
Reagan has no idea how it happened but she thinks something is building between her and Carter. She is not completely sure and is not good at believing in things she is a bit scared of. In case it doesn’t come true. In fact, having Carter in her life feels to good to be true. Could this amazing sport star who has models chasing after him really settle for her when he could have them?
This was so much fun to read. I really enjoyed all of the secondary characters too, they added so much more to this story. This is guaranteed to put a smile on your face ☺
The writing was pretty great. I really loved Reagan's character. She was funny and droll and her parents were equally hilarious. Carter was a wonderful foil for her. He loved her quirky personality and generous heart. Carter's family was also great.
Sigh. I saw the blurb for this and I couldn't resist. I really wanted it to work for me, and it just...it was ok. It has several elements I enjoy, several I despise and overall, very implausible.
First of all - Reagan and Carter? Was I the only person who had a momentary flashes of....
No? Just me then.
Now, I like a BBW heroine (although at a size 14, Reagan's more average in size IMO) and I liked how all in Carter is with Reagan. I liked her friendship with Brooke and there are genuinely funny moments that give that rom-com vibe.
Carter can also be bossy with alphahole-ish tendencies, but he never goes too far over the edge. There's not alot of time developing the relationship beyond the surface and the football references are...yeah they're not even close to accurate, so if you're looking for a football romance where the football is authentic, this is not the book for you. Emotional conversations between Ree and Carter are few and far between and it wraps up very easily, so it's a low angsty read.
Overall, it was just ok. I would check out the next book, because I did like Brooke so we'll see how it goes.
That cover is high cringe factor. And, also the MC's names are Raegan and Carter... sounds like this was meant to be a US President Slash fic but turned into a M/F Rom Com.
Such a cute story. I’m really glad I read this one. First time reading this author and I really enjoyed this sort of second chance at first love, sports romance! I love me an awkward girl that finds herself in the sights of a hot ass stud type guy. It always makes me smile. The more awkward the better, when this one started there were a few words used by the lead girl that had me wondering if I would connect with her, but a couple of pages in I embraced her and her crazy antics and was immediately pulled into the story. The background helped when we got into Carter's head a little bit. The pieces all started to fall into place. Their past, how they could find a future and all the in-betweens that help bring it all together in order to deliver a cute, fun-filled rom-com. Not only was Reagan a little extra her parents were EXTRA and the combination of the two...we had a winner! lol Sweet read with easy to connect to leads, a supporting cast that helps bring it all home. Totally enjoyed it.
This was a refreshing read. I like a strong female character and Reagan fit the bill! She was strong but not bitchy and hilarious as hell, I seriously adored her! 🤗 Carter was a real sweetheart and together they fit together perfectly. Not too steamy but a sweet and funny romantic story all the same.
I laughed, am still dying in absolute laughter every time I think about this story.
Every girl need a Best friend like Brooke. Girl code, and someone to help bury the body friend. Right?
Everyone absolutely needs a boss like Tom! You’d enjoy going to work.
Everyone needs a family like Reagan’s, no filter, love, warmth and laughter.
And finally, you guessed it EVERY GIRL NEEDS A CARTER IN HER LIFE. 😍
When Carter gets his chance to seize the girl he crushed on in high school and let go (because guys can be douche bags and listen to peer pressure) he takes it. Literally running and not stopping. It might take some time to convince Reagan that he wants to be more than friends but he’ll do it or die trying.
Reagan has put Carter firmly in the friend zone. Of course she wants more but she doesn’t think he does.
But she is wrong! He wants forever. With her.
The families of these two??? Dying in laughter. I wonder if there’s such a thing? Ugly laughter? Yep that was me.
A must read! Again laughter remember?
Oh and the slow build? Amazingly hot and sexy and sweet. I’m stopping now but seriously READ THIS BOOK.
Reagan is funny, quirky, stubborn, Sassy with a touch of insecurity, maybe alittle to much of that.. as for Carter He was amazing sweet, funny, protective, flirty he only wanted one girl he was a tiny dick in high school but never was mean towards her just watched her from a distance..
Now as a couple.. it was very slow burnish since Rea was always wondering why he would want her and didn't think he was in her league.. just cuz she was curvy.. but he wanted her.. since high school but didnt.
Low in angst, no ow/om drama only one crazy bully gal who dated Carter in the past wanted him, crazy family amazing secondary chara.. i wanna read States book and see Brooke and Dustin.. not alot of sex scenes.. it had steamy moments.
DNF @ 30%. I've never cringed this much reading a book before in my life... oh god. I understand this is a romantic "comedy", but nope. I couldn't do it. I understand Reagan had her quirks but the amount of awkward moments was overkill.
I have mixed feelings about this story. This story was entertaining, engaging and funny... Well, everything you expect and need from romcom. But there was few things, that is my pet peeve, that caused the struggle. Honesty, I wasn't sure to laugh, which I did, or be irked by Reagan, which happened too. I love quirkiness, but it seemed she had extra of that. Especially if she got embarrassed of her quirky moment, or when Carter is involved. I think the real reason why her quirkiness bothered me some, because it made me feel like she didn't accepted that part of herself. She always saw her quirkiness as embarrassment, instead of shrugging it off and being like 'I am who I am. Accept it. If you can't, that's your problem.' In all though, you can say a lot about Reagan, but you can't call her boring that's for sure. Carter was... While at the beginning for a while I had some doubts about him because of his past actions, I still give him a chance, because he may not be a person he was then. I was right. Carter matured a lot since his high school. He was something special. And honestly, I can't find anything else to say just to price him. Despite my pet peeve and everything would I recommend this book? Yes. Like I said at the beginning, it have a lot of fun. And more then one character to love. Oh, and I really wish, some of these characters will have their own book.
What a wonderful light read! Perfect pick me up on a rainy afternoon. This is the story of Reagan and Carter. Secret high school crushes who meet again as adults.
Reagan is a curvy girl and I love that she owns who she is and what she looks like. She has also inherited a quirky, no filter gene from her mom and that makes her mouth get her into more trouble than not. But her students love her and her friends and family adore her and she has confidence in spades. Except for when it comes to Carter. The football star makes her tongue tied and nervous. But worse, she feels he couldn't possibly be in to her.
Carter was so patient with Reagan, letting her catch up to where he was feeling. Laugh out loud moments between these two. Carter plays in the NFL but this is not really a sports romance. Loved all of his family and friends as well.
Great RomCom and sure to put a smile on your face.

I absolutely love Lila Rose’s romantic comedies, and Fumbled Love was an absolutely fantastic one! This author is well known for her riveting MC romances, but her third romcom is a testament to her ability to effortlessly shift gear in her writing style. Her romcoms are sweet, sexy and humorous romances featuring a curvy girl and swoon-worthy hero. Fumbled Love was as hot as it was hilarious, and I had a hard time putting it down.
School teacher, Reagan, is surprised when her high school crush turned professional football player, Carter, shows up at her school to talk the students. Carter may have noticed her back in the day, but he didn’t act on it, and he had some ground to make up with Reagan. He was determined to get the girl of his dreams this time, and he worked double time to win her over. I absolutely loved Carter! Reagan was so much fun, and her family and friends added wonderful depth and dimension to the story with their own antics and personalities.
Lila Rose has written another fabulous romantic comedy in Fumbled Love. Smiling from ear-to-ear, I swooned, I blushed, and I loved every single word of it! Whether you’re new to this author or a fan of her MC romances, her romantic comedies are absolutely not to be missed. Fumbled Love by Lila Rose gets 5 smooches from me! ~Danielle Palumbo
Fumbled Love by Lila Rose is a sports romance rom com, which is filled with laughter, one liners and romance, of course.
Reagan’s a clumsy, forgetful mess, and a teacher. So of course the day when she’s completely frazzled, is the day that her high school crush just happens to be at her school.
Carter might not remember Reagan…or so Reagan thought. But she most definitely never forgot him.
Carter was a football player back in high school, and is now an NFL player with oodles of charm and more, he’ll have Reagan more of mess than normal.
Just one encounter is all it takes to spark Carter’s attraction, but will Reagan let herself fall for him?
This story was lighthearted, fun and flirty. I now can’t wait to read Brooke’s story in Bumbled Love.
I dig this kind of humour and I love me a book that can make me cry with laughter to the point my cheeks hurt.
Reagan and Carter just are so fucking perfect for each other!.
Reagan is that super sweet hot mess of a lady with verbal diarrhoea who just manages to always dig herself deeper into a hole. Quirky, loving, funny and so strong she is my favourite type of heroine! Loveable, relatable and so easy to connect with.
Carter is that hot jock from high school who did stupid shit to fit in with those around him. All grown up he is definitely all man now and with that comes his confident self assured sweet ass self. I dug that he owned his past mistakes like a man instead of making excuses. I love how he uplifted Reagan and loved her so hard. Hell yes for a sexy sports alpha.
These pair together had me dying in stitches, Seriously they are just perfect. They balance eachother out. The chemistry between them palpable from the getgo, the connection instantaneous. The side characters also are just fucking great. A seamlessly story written to perfection I have zero complaints.
A endearingly sweet funny Romcom. It's relatable, realistic and easy to connect to. Low in angst and high in laughter this is feel good reading at its best!.
I'm going to say right now this is my favourite romantic comedy to date!. Yup.. big statement right? But honestly I can't even with it because it made me feel good reading it and I was gutted it finished.
What do I say here, I can’t even with that book, it was a cracker of a story! I loved it, it was perfect. The writing, the characters everything. I honestly think Lila should stick with Rom Coms, she executes it every time. I have been reading her work off and on over the years and I really enjoy and prefer her rom coms.
An English teacher and a football star, what a perfect mix.
Reagan and Carter were so flipping cute, funny, swoon worthy just everything I loved.
Highly recommend this book, Lila knows how to capture your attention and make you fall in love with all her cast of characters, I loved that Ree was full figured and shy, but man she is freaking funny. And for a footy player you would think he is a bit of a player, or full of himself but he isn’t like that all. He is sweet, and he wants Ree, and he has some interesting mates too as well as Reagan, her bff and her are everything you want in a friendship.
Anyways, this was such a sweet story, slow burn romance, it’s worth it. 5/5 stars!
OMG when they say comedy they mean it. This book has to be one of my all time favorites. I loved the absolutely hilarious characters. I mean I was laughing my ass off. Not only that but the connection these two characters have and the fight.
Reagan and Carter get thrown together more than they could ever expect. Although one is more than thrilled with this the other is at a loss. One wants the other meanwhile the other thinks there is no way there could be anything more between them than friendship.
I loved this story. Lila Rose knocked it out of the park. I would highly, highly recommend this read if you are a lover of romantic comedies because this one has it all.
It’s Christmas, I have two young kids (my house looks like a bombs hit it) plus I’ve still not finished unpacking from moving house last week - ergo I’m TIRED and needed something ‘light’.
Therefore this piqued my interest. I have to say despite being a tortoise burn and a tad on the cheesy side, this was quite funny.
The utter randomness of the whole book actually made me laugh.
From the naked yoga to the imaginary anal beads - I found it quite amusing.
Reagan was a hoot. But she was right when she said she got it from her parents. I loved how the families were present to show their crazy and how well they mixed. Carter was so self-aware and he was perfect for Reagan. So glad that she finally caught on and loved her commitment once she caught up with everybody else. Great story.
Almost a four star. I really was discouraged by the poor football references as it ruined that aspect for me. I did like the characters. I could see where humor may of saved this book because both families were funtastic.
