Brutal Hearts #3

Brutal Husband

Rate this book
My jealous, brutal husband is obsessed with me.

Once, Nero was my savior. He protected me, craved me, hungered for me, and I burned for him.

Then one terrible night he disappeared without a trace. For months, I searched for him like a good wife, and I prayed for him to come home.

When he did, our dream marriage turned into a nightmare.

He stalks me night and day. He hunts me through the streets and watches my every move. Nero won’t tell me where he’s been, and he doesn’t believe me when I swear that I’ve never touched any man but him. My family won’t listen to me when I tell them that something is terribly wrong in my perfect-seeming marriage.

Nero’s love has teeth, and he’s eating me alive.

Welp, that freaking plot twist ruined the story for me.

***Spoilers***

It turns out that Nero (MMC) has an identical twin named Luca, and they agreed to pretend to be one person (Nero) when they were courting Rieta.

Luca was aloof, cold, and distant, while Nero is obsessed and possessive when it comes to Rieta.

This twin thing would've been a fine plot twist, but the fact that they played her so well and did such great impersonation that Rieta couldn't tell them apart made me uneasy for some reason.

It didn't help that she had slept with both men—it wasn't her fault, she was fooled excellently but it still gave me the creeps. Nero might have had her first, but the rest of Rieta's marriage she was with Luca. This bad twin sent Nero to a private prison to keep him away. 🥴

And this marriage made me so uncomfortable because Rieta and Luca were trying to conceive (or she thought). She wanted to have Nero's babies, granted, she didn't know he was not him, but still, ick! It was also not a good experience for her, as she said what they did was "Mechanically successful, but passionless, disconnected sex."

Thank God for small mercies, because Luca got the snip, and he has no plan impregnating her, just giving her false hope. 🤧

Anyway, I was sooo uncomfortable reading the rest of the book when the truth came out. Ngl, I did get the urge to DNF, but since this is only a short story; I might as well finish it.

5 Now My Heart is Cold Stars ⭐

I fucking loved this disaster of a marriage. Just when I thought the relationships of this series couldn't get anymore twisted, I was completely mistaken. Brutal Husband was steamy, messed up smut! Bravo LV. 🖤🖤

“Look at you. Pathetic. How I adore you.”

An arranged marriage to an enigma of a man that runs so hot and cold, you're guaranteed whiplash. A 19 year old Rieta thinks she can handle a man like Nero. One who is either being aloof or magically removing her panties in a minute. It explains how this whirlwind marriage comes about.

It's all very romantic until a disastrous wedding night, followed up by an even worse honeymoon. Yet it's just the beginning because overnight Nero becomes unrecognizable. Distant, disinterested, mean. And then he disappears completely.

“I didn’t break in,” Nero replies. “I had a key. I let myself into this house to reunite with my sleeping wife, who always gave herself to me when I embraced her.”

Their relationship may not have always been filled with happiness but the sexual compatibility was firing. And when Nero returns wanting to reclaim his wife, breed her and possibly kill her, you start wondering what the actual fuck is going on.

No spoilers here, but geez it was so bloody good, I'm desperate to spill. Honestly I enjoyed the twists and turns, the intensity of Nero and the hot hot sex scenes that this author nails each time. I loved how dirty and unpredictable this story was. 🖤🖤

This book catapulted me out of my reading slump. It was so perfect for what I was looking for. This had everything, plot, drama, mystery, intrigue, romance, chemistry and spice.

It reads like a Rina Kent book and I ate it uppppp

The plot twists had me staring at the wall for hours I loved it.

I went in expecting something toxic and messy but what I got was all that and more which made the experience ten times better.

I have no explanation for this one…

The plot twist was not it. It's been a while since I've finished this and now that the hype is over I feel like this didn't deliver what it needed to deliver.

First of all, the breeding kink was not "breeding kink" I really did not feel the heat of the sex? I don't know how to explain it.

But, I loved the degradation honestly. Lilith Vincent did not shy away from actually degrading the heroine. Is it a good thing? You decide. For me, kink-wise it was HAAAAWWTT.

Nero grasps my jaw and hisses in my ear, “Locking me out of my own house. Avoiding me. Talking about me behind my back. Have you forgotten who your husband is? Do you think you’re another man’s wife? You need reminding who you belong to, my pretty little whore.”

“Would you? Say you’ll do anything for me.” “I’ll do anything for you. I’ll crawl on my knees. Sit at your feet and beg. Ask you to slap me and call me names. It’s what I deserve.” A wicked smile spreads over his face. “That’s right, my beautiful girl. Now, come for me.”

Now, the plot twist so SPOILERS

So Nero was not actually Nero but Luca, basically twins were fooling with the heroine, y'all. Wtf? They both sleep with her and even though Luca did not like her, it's still not my cup of tea. It kind of feels like sharing.

This crossed the line into domestic violence

Before I'm accused of being a non-con hater, let me say I don't hold fiction books to real life standards. I escape reality when I read, therefore I don't ask fiction to mimic it.

・── :〃✦ So why call this domestic violence?

Because we all hold fiction to our own personal standards, I'm saying this is the line for me. Just me, random person on the internet with grandiose delusion (you can call me Your Grace 👑🤓).

➥ I'm not saying everyone that reads this will see it the same way.

Imo, the moment he used violence against her outside sexual acts, it became assault.

Because the MCs are married, I qualify that assault as domestic violence.

➥ Again, just so we're clear: by own personal standards, this fictional book went beyond degradation/humiliation kink and non-con and landed squarely into assault/DV territory.

(I feel the clarification is important because this book will probably become massively popular and I'm preemptively protecting myself from the fans)

・── :〃✦ So why finish it?

I wanted answers too, ig.

I also held out hope for the massive grovel the heroine deserved after his treatment of her. it never came.

My rating, though, is not only that but the fact that if you really look at it, this book is not only boring but the MCs spend more time apart than together...

1☆ DNF 8% Yeah, that first scene didn’t read like dubcon to me. ☠️ It read like domestic abuse and assault, and I was really scared for the heroine. 😓 I’ve enjoyed some depraved stories by LV—because fiction—but this one’s a hard pass, just no fun for this girl. Also saw a Big Twist spoiler that makes me extra glad I got off this ride early. ⛔️

y’all i’m lowkey embarazzzed @ how excited i was about this book pre 2nd oct

i was .. idk .. i feel bad .. but it wasn’t good 🙃

let me preface this by saying lilith vincent has other fantastic books but sadly this wasn’t one of them 😭

this actually had so much potential to be unhinged in the perfect way but fell short 😭

sure the plot was absolute BONKERS but i def had my reservations on how things played out and the *cough* “plot twist” 👹

this review/ my thoughts are going to be heavily spoilery so please proceed with caution if you’re still yet to read this (or thinking of reading it) but ill still make sure to add disclaimers wherever needed

1. i read the acknowledgments section of the book so i now know where the inspo came from but i still think the “plot twist” was kinda meh 🫤 as in was kind of a shitty villain. apart from being a typical SOB mafia criminal “skeletons in the closet”, there really wasn’t anything particular malevolent ab this character where rieta was concerned. rieta’s mother/ the bitchy guilia was a better villain than this person ffs
2. i will die on this hill but i still think nothing tops fear me, love me where tyrant played the villain/ unexpected antihero saviour for vivienne. what made it work came down to the variables - vivienne actually had something to lose/ something she was willing to fight for, and in the end (somewhat) prevails. in this one, the villain arc didn’t really seem convincing and rieta didn’t really get much in the end other than a silly goofy husband who was really two dimensional throughout the entire story.
3. for a guys who was supposedly possessive right to the marrow of his being, nero surely didn’t appear to have any qualms taking turns with and tbh it felt like a fucking up joint custody situation like “alright you can take her on monday through thursday and I will do Friday and weekends”. like wtaf 🙃 the fact that rieta didn’t know she was being played didn’t sit right with me and nero just let it fucking happen. was an ass but also the way he was so easily defeatable was funny ngl
4. to back up my previous point - my *ideal* archtype of OTT jealous possessive hero is when the MMC wouldn’t even hesitate to off someone if they so much as looked at the FMC the wrong way, be it a family member, someone in his org, etc. lowkey feel bad that poor rieta had to endure “nero”. heck even him issuing a warning to guilia’s mistreatment of rieta felt more like a slap on the wrist than a “i will destroy you and make you sorry you were ever born” reprimand 🙈
5. sorry not sorry but i didn’t really think there was much chemistry/ palpable tension between nero and rieta :/ apart from rieta’s desire to have a child (making the forced breeding element, well, not so forced amiright?) and her willing/ amorous energy towards her new husband, she was kinda bland imo. nero was def a crazy but NOTHING compared to laz or tyrant’s level of unhinged, imo he was more tame in his pursuit for rieta 🙃 the only thing somewhat OTT on nero’s part is probably the stalking, but even that was pretty 🤡
6. i didn’t understand why again, goes back to my point how this person didn’t really have the makings of a convincing villain.

all in all, i didn’t think it was a horrible book. heck I don’t want to bash it more than it deserves and sure, my points above made it more of a 🤡 story than a 😈 story but i was kinda expecting MORE. don’t get me wrong, it was very engrossing, and i was eating it up but I’ve read better 😭

idk it feels a bit embarrassing bc I was really looking forward to this for the past two months and it was a bit of a let down ngl

ill probs delete this review later on bc tbh if I think about it’s not even that serious but i def think the story deserved better😭

*audiobook

I have so much to say, it feels, yet I can't bring myself to write it all down. It would be exhausting.

But i will try anyway.

(Can you believe i considered giving this a 2 star rating before i changed my mind last minute?)

I was gonna do that because there was a couple scenes between the fmc and mmc that i DIDN'T hate...

But anyway...

REVIEW:

First thing first, idk what propaganda this author was trying to drive by writing the fmc's mother like that.

There’s writing a bad mother or an evil villain mother or whatever... and then there’s writing it like that...

Hmmm, i sense an agenda being driven here...

Very suspicious.

Why does she have all daughters and treat them this way, and why is it always about men, and why did, in the end, the daughters choose men over her...?

Hmm... i see what you're trying to do here, author...

Sure, write an evil mother, yes, but please write her in an interesting way...

This character reeked of the author suffering from internalized misogyny, and she can't imagine writing a female character who is not male centered. . .

Second of all,

Luca (not the mmc) is a rapist/pedophile/women and child trafficker. He raped the fmc by deception. Because having sex with someone who you thought were someone else IS rape.

Nero is not the ideal mmc because as a self-proclaimed obsessed mmc, how do you let your sleazy brother pretend to be you on dates/around the object of your obsession...?

How do you even entertain that for one second?

Makes no sense.

A proper obsessed mmc wouldn't let another man BREATHE around her, let alone someone who looks exactly like you and one that the fmc would easily mistake as you...

Like... what?

Also, the whole child trafficking/women being trafficked felt so... i don't want to say out of place, in this book, but it was completely unnecessary.

We could have had an evil luca without all that.

Also, this author had the sauce, the right sauce for a very juicy story.

You have two potential mmcs here, you could have made luca less sleazy evil, and more "hot" evil and made him just as obsessed with the fmc, and had the twin brothers fight over her, until one kills the other in the end and wins her.

So many other ways this book could have been interesting.

Ugh, i feel so bad for the fmc having been victimized by luca like that. Ugh, imagine sleeping with a pedophile and not knowing what he is.

I'm gonna vomit.

The mmc Nero is at fault for not telling the fmc and lying to her about his identity from the start, and allowing his pedophile and women trafficker twin brother Luca to rape the fmc.

Like i said, the ingredients were there for a juicy story, but the author cooked them all the way wrong.

Eh, but at least there were 1 or 2 scenes i didn't hate...

Let’s be clear- the alpha, possessive MC that we’re being sold in the blurb, and the blurb itself, is so misleading it’s criminal.

The story starts with Nero violently raping his wife Rieta. Like in the opening pages. So far, so not hot.

Throughout the book Nero runs hot & cold, emotionally abusing poor Rieta who’s confused about the man she fell in love with pre-marriage. It’s almost like he’s a different person…. early on I’d figured the twist because it reminded me of a popular movie.

Suddenly the old Nero that Rieta “burns for” comes back, but he’s furious with her. She doesn’t know why. It’s a good old miscommunication trope as no one trusts the other.

This isn’t a romance book at all & it’s so far removed from the hotness of the other Brutal books that I don’t know what happened. This is not the obsessive, stalkery love affair that you’d expect from the previous stories.

The plot features child trafficking, violence, alcoholism, rape & abuse. None of this is hot & romantic & I’ll happily read a dark romance but *this* has no time for a redemption arc. How on earth would these characters move on from what they’ve done/seen? How on earth would they get away with it? How am I meant to care about a HEA when Rieta is a wet blanket basket case? Why am I meant to swoon over Nero when he’s clearly super weak willed & easily manipulated?

Honestly I don’t know why I finished it. I’m pretty horrified at myself. There are moments when they’re dating & in the epilogues that offer real spicy sweetness & I just wish the author had leaned into that more so we had more time with the two of them together. Most of the book felt like it wanted to be a dark fiction/crime book instead of a romance.

I really wish reviews on here had to be based on reading the actual book rather than the blurb. I feel bad for the poor reviewer who gave out 5* & is celebrating the fact there’s no OWD or cheating drama. What you do get is worse.

Genre: Dark Romance
Type: Standalone Book 3 from Brutal Hearts series
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:
4.25 stars

Rieta Bianchi was determined to make her arranged marriage to Nero Lombardi work. But it didn’t take long for her to realize she barely knew the man she had married.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book for its darkness and intrigue. Even though some things were clear to me early on, it didn’t diminish my enjoyment.

Nero’s possessiveness was sexy without being over the top, though I was a bit let down when his intensity tapered off towards the end. Despite the challenges, Rieta fought for her own happiness, and I appreciated how her loved ones supported her.

Brutal Husband is a story of reclaiming control. It would appeal to readers who enjoy sexy, dark romance.

I really love the first half of this book. I sunk it claws into me and then it all went downhill with that plot twist. I was rooting for the hot and cold Nero(so hot 🥵) but off course it was an evil identical twin 🙄. Could have been a case of Dissociative Identity Disorder and it would’ve been better than this 🙄

I’m just gonna pretend the last half of the book doesn’t exist and Nero is not the simp they turned him into 😭

Story: 3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
Narration: 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“You will never be lost in the dark ever again, cara mia. I will always find you.”

ME:

Holy shit!
Holy fucking shit!

This book was a wild ride!

And i loved every second of it. 😏🙌

This is a marriage of convenience and a whole lot of deliciously fucked up things.

What to expect?

✨marriage of convenince
✨unhinged possessive hero
✨marriage in crisis
✨evil family
✨lots of secrets
✨forced breeding kink
✨lots of delicious dirty talking
✨somnophilia, degradation and praise kink
✨abuse

Did i love it?

Absofuckinglutely!🙌
I LIVE FOR THIS SHIT!!!🖤🖤🖤

I don't wanna spoil anything, i really don't.
Because I loved this book and if you are planning to read it, i want you to experience every delicious part of it.

I'll just say that i had 2 possible explanations concerning Nero's behaviour and one of them was actually right.
So i just high-fived myself lmao.😜😂😂

Did it take anything away from how i feel about this book?

Absolutely not.

All in all, this book is a standalone precious gem but it does have some links to the previous books in the series (but you don't need to read them to understand what is happening in this one).

If you are a fan of dark and twisted shit, then this baby is a must-read!

Oh, and Nero Lombardi is my new book boyfriend, so back off, y'all! 😏🖤🖤🖤

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT WITH ALL MY HEART!!!

I don’t know what this Author was on when she wrote this disaster. I read all three and the only one that was a good one was Brutal Intentions. This book is a zero literally. It felt like a book written by a person who was bored and just threw words and characters with no intention or purpose.

This book could have been so good but nope it was a slap to the face. Nero was a 0 and Rieta a negative 0.

There is literal rape from the MC one thing is abuse another is rape. That’s not dark that’s horrible specially if it’s coming from the MC there is no connection or anything.
Don’t waste your time it’s horrible read the writing is bad like really bad.

Holy crap was that GOOD. Do not spoil this for yourself! Go in without knowing. Starts off with a bang and doesn’t let up. I absolutely loved the mystery thrown in halfway. Dealt with surprisingly dark themes that made me feel bleak at times but HEA for everyone.

AND THE LAST LINE! Bring back iconic endings, please. Nothing makes me sigh with satisfaction than conversation with a deeper meaning shared between the two MCs as we close the book.

eww, Brotha eww, whats that? what’s that brotha?? 🤔😭

The one star is for Laz and Mia’s appearance only!! #Live-laugh-love Laz 😘😘

To pretty much sum it up without giving spoilers.. I hated the plot twist because of how it was .. executed??
The fact there was no grovelling AT ALL from Nero made it even worse.
Pretty much he was a piece of 💩 from the beginning and blamed Rieta, tortured her (mentally and physically) knowing damn well he was the one with the secrets and it’s all his fault! 😀 (I’m going crazy just trying to explain it)

And the main reason I’m so disappointed is because the tropes and synopsis was SO juicy but the story itself was crap.
**SPOILER** (I changed my mind about being spoiler free 🙄)
The fact Nero so heavily claims to be “obsessed and possessive over Rieta” claiming he “won’t let any other man touch her” is such BS but I guess the exception is his also-piece-of-shit-twin-brother 🤷🏻‍♀️

Like I love Lilith Vincent but where was the stalker trope?? He basically was just pissed that Rieta was well- surviving- even after he disappeared and watched her through a window for some time???

She should have added the trope “sharing” and “technical cheating” because this took me by surprise and NOT in a good way.
like it was so weird she slept w both brothers!! (w/o her knowing ofc) And the POS twin was trying to “knock her up” 😬 Like don’t get me wrong I’ll eat up a RH or sharing trope any day but in a book where the hero claims to never allow another man to touch his woman?? That just pisses me off.

Anyway to make it even better Rieta never knew the idiot hero had a brother let alone a twin brother and STILL Nero treated her like shit.. make it make sense?? 🤔

Overall:
I loved Brutal intentions so much and after seeing Rieta in it I wanted to love her book and came in with really high hopes and expectations which is why I think im so disappointed ☹️
Anyway I hope Isabel gets her own story!! 😍

Where do I start honestly…

・┆✦ʚ♡ɞ✦ ┆・

This was my anticipated new release. When I read about marriage in crisis I was ready for this book.

「 ✦ 𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐓𝐀 𝐁𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐇𝐈 ✦ 」(𝙛𝙘: 𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙖𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙤𝙣 𝙄𝙂)

ALL THIS WOMAN WANTED WAS LOVE AND A LOVING FAMILY WHY WAS IT SO HARD TO GIVE HER THAT?!?! She deserves better!

「 ✦𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐎 𝐋𝐎𝐌𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐈 ✦ 」(𝙛𝙘: 𝙁𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙤 𝙇𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙯)

What can I honestly say about him… he had me so confused while reading about him. He did have a hard life and he as well wanted a family why was it so hard to give it to him?!?! That man is also possessive bc wtf-

・┆✦ʚ♡ɞ✦ ┆・

This book was not worth my headache the first time I read it. I couldn’t put the book down bc I was excited for this book!

I’ll admit I like me a marriage in crisis sue me…

When you’re reading this book you read that something is off and you probably have a guess and your guess might be correct bc that was me and my guess was correct… you get me?

Towards the end it felt like the author ran out of ideas and just wrote of bunch of BS and I was like huh?! I felt like they had the beginning and ending planned out but towards the end it felt like they wrote a bunch of BS

I’m curious about Isabel she seems like someone I can hopefully stand…

I hope Rieta’s mother (*animal noises*)

Overall, 2.75/5 stars ★

It was not worth the multitasking I was doing and holding off on Belladonna.

Would I recommend this book? No I’m sorry…

I would not recommend this book. It's hard to follow the dialogue in the situations are so unrealistic even when you find out the truth that there were twin Brothers pretending to be married to the same woman
