Another great read in Eva Winner's mafia world! Villainous Kingpin is the first book in her new Kingpins of the Syndicate series and is a standalone, but with characters from many of her previous books. The story is told in first person, from multiple perspectives. In Villainous Kingpin we have the story of Basilio and Wynter who have a whirlwind romance after a spectacularly romantic meet-cute. But secrets, hurt feelings, and the actions of a truly evil man conspire to keep the two lovers apart. Separation has made both lovers change, but not Basilio's belief they should be together - even if he has to force Wynter to be with him. Eva Winners totally delivers on the first book in what's sure to be another fantastic series! Great storyline with twists, secrets revealed, and turn all the way to the last page. It does get a little slow in the middle, but the beginning and the fantastic, action-packed ending more than make up for it. The character development is awesome and I appreciated the fact that Bas's character had as much depth as Wynter's. Bas is a little bit crazy, but definitely crazy for his girl. He was all in from day one and is fiercely protective of her and jealous of any man that looks at or touches her, lol. His abandonment issues gave him a vulnerability that made him that much more endearing. Wynter is definitely the light to his dark. She has a strong personality and lives her life at 110%. Wynter is the kind of girl who isn't afraid of anything except disappointing those she loves. Really was a great read and I loved seeing characters from all my favorite Eva Winner's books. Can't wait for the next one in the series!!

    Villainous Kingpin was a really good Mafia romance! Their meet cute is definitely a new one for me, but I really enjoyed it. Wynter and Bas had a great dynamic, and the plot definitely keeps you guessing.

    This was my first book by Eva Winter since it was said it could be read as a standalone. However I was oftentimes confused who characters were, their connections, and what was happening with the plot because of things/characters I’m assuming were previously established in other books. Even things that I highly doubt were brought up in other books weren’t explained as they were happening and made me question if it was worth it to continue - like the girls with stealing money. I plan to continue reading Eva’s other books in the future and enjoyed this one, but definitely wouldn’t recommend starting with this one.

    Whoa! Where do I start? First read Corrupted Pleasure by Eva Winner. It gives you some back story for this book, it is the story of Davina Hayes & Liam Brennan- the head of the Irish mafia also Juliette's dad & Wynter's uncle ( Davina is best friends with both girls and Ivy, making up their own little family. All have some connection to the underworld but might not know it ,yet.) Events from Corrupted Pleasure play out in this book. We, the reader get more of the story between the Brennans( Irish mafia), the DiLustros ( Italian mafia or syndicate) and Russian mafia in Villainous Kingpin, the love story between Wynter & Basilio. Wynter is an only child who was raised by her mother , who is also her ice skating coach. She was raised with her cousin Juliette in California far away from New York City where her uncle Liam Brennan is the head of the Irish mafia. Juliette is Liam's daughter. Liam tried to keep the girls hidden away from the underworld lifestyle. But that didn't work so well. Sheltering them from their pasts lead all four girls - Davina, Wynter, Juliette & Ivy straight into dangerous places. Lets just say those four are each others ride or die right until the end. Lets just say they torched a house, robbed the head of the Irish mafia ( yup Liam , Dad and Uncle), ripped off a casino by counting cards in Chicago ( Dante, Bas' cousin) and stealing an armoured truck in Philly with 40 million dollars in it ( Priest/ Bas). I won't spoil the story on those little crimes but read Corrupted Pleasure the crime spree story starts there and flows into this story. Basilio or Bas literally catches Wynter as she jumps off the balcony of her uncle's home. He's there for a meeting to with her uncle Liam Brennan to discuss making peace with the DiLustros, Bas' family. Both families have a bad history with each other going back twenty one years ago. Its twisted but so worth the tale in this book. Wynter is sneaking out for ice skating practice when Bas catches her ! The sparks are instant. But they don't know much about each other. Fast forward three months the girls are being blackmailed by Davina's ex boyfriend for torching his house. Wynter is training for a shot at gold in pairs skating in the Olympics. She can't risk her future and the girls won't ask Liam for help. By chance she sees Bas and chases after him in traffic to ask for his help in erasing the surveillance footage from the house fire hence making the blackmail go away if there is no proof. Bas is game to help he just asks for one dinner in return for the favor. No strings attached. She agrees. Both are drawn to each other. He makes the footage from the house and surrounding areas disappear. Gone is the leverage. But the girls go on a little crime spree anyway. They're doing it for a good reason. They have a plan. Bas and Wynter fall in love but just as things get good with them his father destroys it all. He attacks Wynter in Bas' home telling her lies. She barely escapes Gio alive. Luckily Sasha happens to find her badly beaten and bruised. Again she won't go to her uncle Liam because he'll kill DiLustros. Gio deserves it but not Bas. Sasha agrees to protect her from the DiLustros. While staying with Sasha he teaches her to fight as her wounds heal. She believes Gio's lies about Bas using her to gain power. She still loves him but its over. She goes back to California to train for the Olympics. Meanwhile Bas is tearing apart the city and Russians looking for her. Gio lied to his son when he came home to a blood covered house and no Wynter saying the Russians took her. Gio is a bad guy. He killed Bas' mom in front of him when he was a kid,etc. Anyway Bas finally finds Wynter nine months later on TV at the Olympics. Dante, Priest and him are only watching it to make his sister Emory happy. Emory happens to be Wynter's biggest fan. So how do you not know your girlfriend is a famous Olympic skater? Easy answer she told him her name was Wynter Star, her first and middle name. Professionally she goes by Star Fleming. Slight spoiler both her and her mom are hiding from a few people, Uncle Liam has keen keeping them protected and safe for years. Now that Bas has found her , he's not letting her go. So he kidnaps her after she's won the gold in pairs skating at the Olympics with the help of Dante,Emory and Priest. He starts a war for her including a gun battle once Uncle Liam finds them. Remember the girls stole 40 million from Priest and Bas, he calls in that marker by demanding she marry him. To stop a war and losing people she loves she agrees to marry Bas. Uncle Liam and Bas come to terms. She's worried about her mom. Liam tells her the girls are with her mom. Sasha doesn't want to leave her with Bas, the truth of what his father Gio did to her almost comes out during the gun duel/ battle. Neither Liam nor Bas know the truth just Sasha. He keeps her secret. Bas asks her why she left over and over again. They get married and everything comes out! Wow

Literally the one complaint, as he should have had more luck in finding her and not spending 9 months separated. I read this and enjoyed it all, I am so wrapped up in the Eva Winners world and definitely appreciate all the cameos of other characters present in these. Basilio loves Wynter so much that my heart ached for him as he suffered for her. In the end their love story is one of my favorites.
