***ARC received in exchange of an honest opinion***
The blurb of this story was completely misleading (which is one of the reasons I avoid reading blurbs). I’ve never read anything by Vivian Wood before, so I was expecting something very different from the synopsis of His Brother’s Fiance.
For starters, I didn’t expect such a whiney, irresponsible heroine. Effie was so immature! She acted like she had no responsibilities at all (who abandons their job for a week and forget to call their boss about it then gets surprised for being fired???)!
There wasn’t much of a real backstory. It started in an interesting way, but it flat-lined pretty early in the story.
King was a complete one dimensional character (not that there was much depth to Effie either). His story started with some interesting elements but those were left out almost immediately and some of that wasn’t mentioned anymore in the story. Also, I don’t mind a hero with a dirty mouth, but when one starts saying dirty stuff almost out of nowhere I don’t enjoy it.
Thorne...OMG what a trainwreck! In the end we get to see why he does what he does, and it doesn’t make sense with the character we see throughout the whole story. I can see the author’s vision, but the execution was lacking a lot.
I couldn’t connect to any character or relate to them in any level, or to the story. I couldn’t see the main characters connection either. And there was just too much sex. Almost like the actual story was a background to the sex scenes.
Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend this book and I also cannot see myself reading any other book by this author.

DNF at 50%
The synopsis didn’t match the book at all. It was very misleading. I didn’t like King whatsoever. The names he called Effie were downright degrading and belittling. It wasn’t cute or romantic. I just had to stop reading this. I pushed myself to get halfway hoping it would improve but it just didn’t.
Vivian Wood is an author I’ve been meaning to read for quite some time, one of those authors who seems to grab my attention quite often. Despite having a couple of the author’s books sitting on my Kindle, His Brother's Fiancée is the first time I jumped into a Vivian Wood book.
At first, I was a little bit worried. There was nothing about this book that was screaming ‘read me, consume me in a single sitting’, as I had been hoping for. However, it was one of those books that slowly worked under my skin. I don’t know when it happened, but I quickly found myself addicted. It was turning pages, excited to see how everything came together.
One thing I will say, however, is that the synopsis left me expecting a very different book to what I was given. If I were to describe this book, I would have described it as a second chance romance between two individuals stuck in a cabin due to the snow. It’s a cliched trope, so I can understand why such a storyline was not put forward when advertising the book, yet it did mean I was shocked by what I was given.
I did enjoy the story, I cannot deny that, it simply wasn’t what I had anticipated. It wasn’t faulty advertisement per se, but it wasn’t quite as forthcoming as it could have been. Due to this, my four-star rating isn’t quite a full four stars.
Overall, I enjoyed this one. It was a fun introduction to Vivian Wood, and I’ll certainly be diving into those other Vivian Wood books I have on my Kindle soon.
I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed. OMG!! Baby Mission is extremely hot. Kudos to Vivian Wood for her writing style. The depth of the characters is a home run. She knocked this one out of the park. Jetty and Cady is on a mission. #letsmakeababy. Candy's biological clock is ticking and she enlist the help of Jett. Challenge accepted and game on. Each one had feelings for the other, but both don't know how to express it. It's told in different Pov's, no cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed hea. I highly recommend this book. You won't regret it.
Another great book from one of my one-click authors! 4.5 stars! I truly love this type of second chance romance, Effie and King were each other's first loves, back when love was pure and innocent, they not only have the challenge of finding each other and falling back in love with each other (if they ever fell out of love that is) but also the additional complication of Effie being engaged to King's brother Thorne when they do. I really liked their journey toward finding forgiveness for themselves as well as each other. It was an emotional read and as I always do, I'm looking forward to more from this author!
This is a second-chance story written by Vivian Woods. Although I am not a big fan of second-chance stories, I did enjoy this one. King and Effie were an item all throughout high school. But when things come to light King gives Effie an ultimatum. King ends up leaving everyone behind including Effie. When we start the book Effie is now engaged to Kings brother Thorne. Needless to say, he does not come across as the best of men. So Effie runs and what she finds throughout this book will surprise anyone.
This is an enjoyable book and I was happy to read it. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy for my honest review.
#adultromance #angsty It was just a quick read to pass a sleepless night. There is nothing like a short adult romance novella (with a HEA of course) to put you to a peaceful sleep. It was an OK read. But I think the end was wrapped up too easily and conveniently. There was a certain loophole that was not entirely addressed at the end. Good for a quick and mindless romance read.
I absolutely love Vivian Wood! She has such a way with weaving a story, and i do believe that The Baby Mission has become one of my favorites of hers. In the Baby Mission we have Cady Ellis, she is feeling that biological clock ticking. She is tired waiting for the perfect man to come along, so she is just going to take matters into her own hands. Fate steps in one night in the form of Jett James. Their chemistry is instant. A deal is made, no strings attached. She wants and baby and he just wants sex. But as they spend more time together, feelings start to develop. But both have emotional baggage. Will they be able to overcome their issues and become a real family or will Cady's original plan still happen?
I really enjoyed Cady and Jett as individual characters and together. Their chemistry was instant and hot! I rooted for them the moment that they met. The journey that these two take was a sweet, sometimes bumpy ride, and i enjoyed it very much.
The Baby Mission by Vivian Wood is sooooo sexy and hot!!! With Cady's biological clock ticking, she is looking to have a baby. When she meets Jett, she knows she has the perfect "donor. Jett is someone you'd say has commitment issues for sure. But when he's proposed to be the baby maker by Cady, Jett agrees to help her make a baby.
I must say i think The Baby Mission is my new Vivian Wood favorite book. Told in dual POV, we get both sides of the story. The characters and storyline are FANTASTIC!!! I LOVED it!
*I voluntarily read an advance copy from the author. This is my honest review.*
I'm fairly new to Vivian Wood's story. If I'm honest, the cover drew me in because Jonny James is one of my favorite cover models so I picked up the book and started reading. Wow! I really enjoyed this story of Jett and Cady. She wants a baby and he just wants a hook up. It was interesting and kept me turning the pages to see how they were both slowly falling for each other without realizing it. There were a few slow parts but it didn't take away from the story as a whole. I really liked this story and will be looking into getting more books from this author.
Cady and Jett They have smoking hot chemistry, issues that need resolved, and when a baby gets added to the deal it becomes even hotter. Loved the great characters and storyline, lots of intense emotions and a HEA make it a must read from me. I received an ARC to read and review voluntarily.
This is at the very tippity top of my fave list of books by Vivian! And definitely on top ten of faves for this year!
Cady is a self sufficient, do it yourself, I don’t need a man woman! She’s one of the top lawyers in her law firm and with her rescue cat she intends to live happily ever after! Except she’s missing one thing....a baby!!
Jett is a man who has beat the odds, he’s a former baseball player who is not loving his life as an agent! He has had his fair share of let downs in life but he’s content!
One night is all it took for Cady and Jett to feel the sparks between them. When the opportunity presents itself Cady asks Jett a question that will change the lives of both of them!
I loved each one of these characters (including secondary characters) and I know you’ll love the angst, the humor and the story that these two embark on together!
Oh man... where do I start! Lately I’ve been taking chances on new to me authors. I wanted to find someone new! That I could just fall in love with! Unfortunately... this book wasn’t for me! I pictured something different when I picked this book to read. The synopsis and the story don’t match. I was expecting a little struggle with emotions. A little drama between them all. I was not expecting a mop/fixer/ crazy family story.
Effie I felt was a train wreck. And King... I just couldn’t connect with him. I just wasn’t feeling the way the story was unfolding. Effie was so immature. The way she jumped to one brother then the other. The way she didn’t step up to her responsibilities. I mean... she didn’t think to call her job to let them know that she was stuck in a blizzard? She had no clue about anything.
I’m no prude in the sex department. But Effie squirting was not sexy at all or hot at all! I was pretty grossed out about it. I don’t think I would have minded... if I was feeling this story. But I wasn’t... it just didn’t appealed to me. Her constant overly wetness. Yeah... no!
And the sex in this book seemed like a porn scene! All the dirty talk going on this book was horrible! When King and Effie first get together King is still upset with Effie. So when he starts to say these things to her it’s a total turn off because he’s still upset with her. And you know he means it in a way when he’s calling her these names. She of course loves it and really gets off on the name calling.
“So…” she said slowly as she released his finger from her mouth, “are you saying I’m a slut?” King searched her eyes, but saw nothing but desire. “You are a fucking slut,” he said. Her eyes widened and he felt a new flood of wetness between her legs. “What are you going to do to me then?” she asked. “Little sluts like you deserve to be punished,” he said.
“You move when I tell you to. You understand, you fucking whore?”
“I said play with yourself, you goddamned slut.”
“Who fucks you like the little whore you are?”
“You really are a good little whore, aren’t you?”
“I said come for me, you fucking slut. Isn’t this what you want?”
Yeah... I just wasn’t feeling all that. Like I said... it wouldn’t be so bad if their wasn’t animosity in the beginning with them. And when Thorne catches them together.... King is laying in bed and says this!
“King, why am I not surprised? Always chasing after your little brother, lapping up those sloppy seconds.” King raised his hands and shook his head.
“She just showed up here, man,” he said.-
That’s why I just couldn’t get into him or this story! I was looking for something different. Stepping out of my box with this book. It didn’t work. Hopefully my next read is a little better for me!!

This is a great second chance romance novel.
In this book we have Effie. Effie is a young college age student. She is currently working as a vet tech at a vet clinic and loves her job. She loves helping the animal's and being around the staff.
Effie has been dating Thorne for the past three years, they are now engaged, they sort of live together.
We also have King, who is Thorne's brother. Back in high school King & Effie dated. They were one year apart in age, and graduated in different classes. King left to go to California, Effie stayed in the Chicago area mainly to help her mom and grandmother - Yaya. King wanted Effie to go with him to California, but, Effie stayed in Chicago. This was going to be a long distance romance that King didn't want to deal with.
To get back at King for hurting her Effie started dating his brother Thorne just to get back at him. Effie and Thorne aren't a great couple, but, they aren't a bad couple either. Thorne is a macho guy, thinking he can have Effie and date other's also. Effie didn't like that idea and left him.
Effie went to the cabin the brother's family owns thinking she would just get away for a day or so and then go back to her life, reality. She wasn't expecting a massive snow storm to hit and leave her snowbound in the cabin with King, who also happens to be there. King didn't realize she was there, and Effie didn't realize he was there. It just happened that they wound up together, snowbound, without electricity. Thank goodness then cabin has wood burning fireplaces & they are able to keep some heat in the house.
King and Effie do bound again, and they do work out most of the issue's that have been between them. King doesn't want to get involved with Effie again. But, they are pulled together. Nothing can stop their chemistry that they have with each other.
We don't really know much about King's history, other than he was working for a mob type group out in California and he left the group. We could have used more backstory on King, on what he does for a living besides working for the family business.
I'm a big fan of Vivian Wood's work, and she's usually my go-to author for hot and sexy romances with hunky heroes and lovable heroines that I love to read about over and over!
His Brother's Fiancee'. . . I received an ARC of this book for my honest review, and truth be told, this one is just not for me.
The blurb sounded so promising, but, UGH! I wanted to STRANGLE Effie! Dating one brother to get back at the other is one thing, but to drag it out for THREE years, AND get engaged to him, when it's very clear that you don't love him and only doing it for your mother?!
I'm not really a big fan of the type of stories where heroes or heroines date the sibling of an ex. However, I'm usually able to get past that, BUT. . . Effie was just TOO much: too weak, too immature, too whiny. She just seemed to crumble under her mother's rule, and I can't even understand why King ever wanted her back in the first place. Over the years, it seems King has matured a bit, but Effie was just stuck.
And Thorne! Everyone loves a good villain, but he was just plain mean and vindictive. Honestly, I don't know if his little "secret" properly explains away his behavior.
What I did enjoy about this story was the interactions between my two favorite characters, King and Effie's nana. He had a soft spot for her as big as the one she had for him, and I really loved their scenes together.
Some of the other characters were just beyond redeemable for me. Not even Effie's mother gets my sympathy after her little "confession" of why she behaved the way she did. She was nasty, cruel, and the way she treated Effie was deplorable and frankly, rather unforgivable. I wanted to celebrate when Effie FINALLY worked up the nerve to put her in her place.
Vivian Wood is a go to author for me when I'm looking for something very dirty, a quick read, but also has a good story line with her stories, and characters I can relate to. I ADORE her work!!! But.... His Brother's Fiancée was just not all I expected it to be. And it fell very short in my eyes.
The blurb sounded so promising, and I was intrigued by the storyline, it had promise. However I wasn't impressed with the characters. They were just OK. I ADORED Yaya. But Effie kinda drove me nuts, she made poor choices and was very immature through most of the book.
King I LOVED his character. He's loyal, and protective, dominant and sexy af!!! I wish we had more of his backstory.
All in all His Brother's Fiancée was a sexy, quick, fast paced read, but definitely not my favorite Vivian Wood book.
*I voluntarily read an advance copy from the author. This is my honest review.*
Vivian wood is a new author to me. His brothers fiancée I was intrigued by the blurb but it’s very misleading. I know it’s only a story but it’s far to fetched for me. The this I didn’t like was Effie is like a child needing a helping hand in everything the need for a man to pay her way. She was shocked to have kept a job she didn’t turn up for a week? In normal life you would ring the first day and keep ringing to say your stuck still. I was waiting for something normal to pop up but it never did. It’s was like she was on holiday with no care in the world. The chemistry between Effie and king is there you can feel it. That’s the only reason why I was sucked in till the end. Just wish Effie wouldn’t have been so mardy and this would have been so much more than a 3 star review. Reviewed for cherry blossoms promotions
Effie and King were supposed to live their happily ever after until he just left. Then in steps Thorne who is King's brother, what better way to get back at King then to get together with his ex-girlfriend. After 3 years of dating Thorne though and getting engaged, she finds him in bed with another woman who looks just like her. Of course it's not what it looks like but Effie doesn't want to hear it and runs to the cabin in the mountains. It just so happens to be King's cabin and he happens to be there. Will they be able to reconcile or has there been too much between the to move past this? You will have to read the book to find out. There's a bit of steam, drama and craziness with her family. Enjoy
Talk about your twisted, crazy and emotional journey... wow just wow... a new twist on a second chance romance filled with anger, danger, betrayal and undeniable passion.
Effie and the Smith brothers, what a triangle of lust and anger. She and King are high school sweethearts but he is a year older and as he is leaving for college tells her he can't do long distance and wants her to move with him. He never expected her to say no... years later he comes back home and she is engaged to his younger brother. Only life is never really all that cut and dry. Insert a winter storm after a crazy encounter and the impossible seems possible again.... Highly entertaining reading.
There is something here that can become better, but right now as is, the book isn't that great. There are interesting elements for each character that should be expanded upon and brought up to the other characters throughout the novel. Instead it's mentioned once to the reader and then forgotten about. Effie was perhaps the most disappointing as she was really dumb. She somehow didn't realize that she could get fired for not reporting to work.....I would like her character to be reworked to have more common sense! Or if she isn't going to have any, let it be comedy rather than an oh poor me moment lol.
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing.
Lots of steam and sexy scenes fill this second chance romance. With lots of drama and secondary characters causing problems on top of the pain and baggage from their own past relationship, Effie and King have a lot to work through. I'm posting a completely honest, voluntary review after reading this book.
There was just something about the writing style that I didn't like. The story was good, but the other issues I had with it weighed in more for the low rating. Editing, timeline errors, things like that.
Effie and King I loved this second chance romance, the great characters, storyline dynamics make this a MUST READ from me. I received an ARC to read and review voluntarily.
Absolutely love Cady and Jett’s story – *fans one’s self*
Cady Ellis has a problem that is facing today’s successful young women in epidemic proportions – diminishing fertility with age, and the lack of a suitable prospective partner.
Successful career women are waiting longer than ever to think about having their families, and Cady is no different. She’s got her career on track, but is running out of biological time to get her family started, yet she’s not been fortunate enough to find the right partner to do it with. Her solution in going it alone is not so different either.
She’s going about her plan, and got the sperm donor folder to prove it, but then she meets Jett and all of a sudden, getting pregnant the old fashioned way looks like a way better plan! He’s all tall, tatted and bearded bad boy, and he’s just been through a water-shed moment of his own - realising that three year relationship with Emily, his girlfriend, recently ended because he just wasn’t committed. Maybe commitment just isn’t in his cards, so when Cady, a gorgeous hot and successful lawyer asks him for ‘unprotected’ sex, he’s more than happy to oblige!
Trouble is, Cady is the exact opposite to his usual type, and she seems to be the perfect candidate as someone who he just might like to go long term with – independent, and an equal partner in the relationship. And, just when he’s really starting to fall, Emily appears back in his life thinking that maybe he’s learned the error of his ways, and might like to try again. Add this to the fact that Cady is still as independent as ever, and he’s starting to think he’s going to have to lift his game to convince her that she and their offspring are going to have him around permanently.
This is one of Vivian’s more emotionally intense books, and I have to say I absolutely adored both Cady as a mother-in-waiting, and Jett as one of the most gorgeous and considerate alpha wanna-be boyfriends around! I did get this as an ARC, but as usual, Vivian Wood writes books that you just want your own copy of. This is up there as one of my favourites! 5 Stars.
First of all...that cover, yes! I am a huge Jonny James fan. That man knows how to pose. Secondly, well, hello, Vivian Wood. This woman can write. I describe her books as "chocolate". Some of her books are Milk Chocolate. Smooth and sweet and goes down nicely. Then you have Dark Chocolate. Smooth and bitter and takes you on a whole other trip with your taste buds. Vivian can go from writing Milk Chocolate that gives you all the gushy feels and then to writing Dark Chocolate that is just so intriguing and makes you think and pulls into the story and you can't concentrate on real life because you just have to know what is going to happen next. And that brings me to think, Mr. Jonny James is on the cover of all of those books in my head that Vivian has wrote.
Cady Ellis' biological clock is ticking now that she has hit 30 and her doctor also gave her some disconcerting news. Jett James recently broke up with a girlfriend, but, for some reason, it didn't really bother him. Both are out with their respective friends and Jett's friend lays a bet down on him. Saying that he couldn't just take a girl on date instead of just bedding her for the night. OH? Well, bring on that bet. And his friend gets to pick the girl and he chose Cady from across the room. She is totally not Jett's type but a bet is a bet. Jett ends up chatting it up with Cady and asking for her help to make his ex jealous, but, Cady doesn't know that the ex is not even there. Slick! They end ups exchanging phone numbers. Cady has been thinking about a sperm donor and now that she has been smitten with Jett, maybe she could ask him if he wouldn't mind being the donor with no obligations afterwards.
Wow, what a story. It was sweet, sexy, hot, smoking hot and the HEA, yes, please. And don't forget the extended epilogue. Mmmhmmm! You will love this book.
*** I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of this book ***
Let me start off by saying I’ve loved every book I’ve read by Vivian. And this book, lives up to the great expectations I have set for this author.
What starts off as a bet, but just not any bet. One that actually entails going on an actual date with a woman of his friends choosing leads to a whirlwind of unpredictable events.
We learn that Cady is a lawyer and has spent a good amount of her adult life climbing the ladder within her career. She’s set on having a child of her own and giving the baby the upbringing and childhood that she lacked. Her fertility time clock is ticking and she’s running out of time.
And then there’s Jett, a hell of a man. Tall, handsome and has the whole jock thing going for him. He’s a sports agent and well your typical ladies man. He had a girlfriend he just didn’t want to commit to, mainly because he couldn’t picture their lives together long term.
When our two main characters meet, Jett plays along with the bet of taking her out on an actual date and skips out on her advance to come home with her for the night. Little does he know Cady has a goal of being a mother and petitions Jett to be her sperm donor. No strings attached! Just hot, pantie dripping sex! Of course the chemistry between the two is steamy. Both have feelings they have yet to express t the other, and when the light at the end of the tunnel appears for Cady, she doesn’t know how to react (well neither of them really do!) and events unfold and they’ve come to the realization that honesty is best and they have to communicate what they’re truly feeling.
I loved this book, it was exhilarating! Open this book and read for yourself. Let yourself go and let your senses take you up, up and away!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Loved this book and it is one you NEED to READ—you won’t regret it! Vivian Wood, you did it again!! From the very first page, I was spellbound by these fantastically described characters that you will find yourself falling in love with. I enjoyed reading this story because it was an emotional rollercoaster ride, scorching love scenes, and a compelling storyline with a different twist. Cady Ellis is a thirty-three year old successful attorney, whose biological clock is ticking loudly and she wants a baby. Jett James is so freaking SEXXY and HOT!! Jett is a former-jock who is now a sports agent—he is a bad boy with tattoos, who is single, long-term commitment free, thirty-five, and no plans of settling down—until he meets Cady. While at a party, when Jett’s best friend, Mason, picks out a girl from his “normal” type—blonde, blue eyes, he has to talk to her, but not take her home that night. Cady is the complete opposite. As they say—opposites do attract. What happens when Cady propositions Jett to donate his sperm to have a baby? Will Jett feel offended by the proposal or will he conform? The chemistry between Cady and Jett grows more potent the more time they spend together—the sex is off-the-chart hot! You get a chance to see the progression of their love—theirs was not a quick and easy love story because they had to overcome some issues, but loves does prevail. The scenes are well written, fast-paced and flow smoothly from one scene to the next. The book will pique your interest and draw you in from the beginning to the very end.
