She was an angel when she danced.
Too bad she attracted the attention of the devil.
She was so innocent and naïve.
Not meant for the cruel realities of this world.
Certainly not meant for someone unworthy.
But every time she floated across the stage, I knew she danced only for me.
Watching her wasn't enough...
My Prima became the light to the dark.
She was mine, and it was time everyone realized it.
I seized my piece of heaven, and to hell with the consequences.

4-4.5 “Prima Ballerina” stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Shit. She really was the female version of me. As if my brain had switched up a gear, I grabbed hold of her hair again and yanked it harder in sexual warning.
I was in control, and the sooner she learned that, the better.

Dark. Thrilling. Action. This duo will simply suck you in with their suspenseful and erotic tale of romance when the dark side of ballet world meets mafia and a star meant for light turns to darkness and a shadow of her former self. Having read and been a fan of Alta Hensley before, I know she doesn’t leave any punches when it comes to dark romance and now am definitely going to check out Maggie’s books for sure. It was written very well and kept me on my toes.

”Feelings for Alek were still managing to creep their way in no matter how hard I tried to deny or explain those feelings as something else. I suppose it was because he was giving me the lifeline I so desperately needed. Or maybe it was because he was my prospective boss, which made him taboo and off limits.”

Clara, who was considered a prodigy, left the world of ballet four years ago and in it’s wake left wreckage beyond repair which cost someone their life and her the victim of media. When out of nowhere, Alek shows up asking her to audition for his ballet company, she has a decision to make. To face the world or not. Which is difficult because of her intense attraction to him and also ‘cause of her ugly past.

Alek was my next addiction. I knew this. I could feel it. But I had no desire to fight the urge any longer.
There was something between me and Alek. Something intense, a powerful connection that wouldn’t quit, and that wasn’t something I’d ever experienced before. I really wanted to explore it further, no matter what the consequences were.

Alek saw something more than what the media portrayed about Clara and knew she deserved a second chance and had a feeling she was a victim and not an evil person who could hurt someone. He not only saw her beauty but her strong spirit, caring nature, love for her babushka (grandmother) and more importantly the love she clearly had for her art.

Forget the rules.
Rules were for others — not for me.
Not when that first taste had me craving more. Passion conquered any hint of resisting the forbidden. I was no match to this beauty. My tongue dueled with hers as I pulled her closer.

Even though he had his own agenda to make her part of his company still he only had good intentions which is what made him a star in my eyes.

Their romance started so light and carefree with an intense and burning chemistry you could in their every conversation that it almost came as a shock to me when it turned so dark and twisted that my heart hurt for what they had to go through.

”More,” I said, making my own demand.
I hadn’t been lying when I said I didn’t want it soft. His warning had stirred my desire into a boiling cauldron.
I wanted it rough.
I wanted it dark and dirty.

The first half was spent into building their connection and love for each other and the second half was full of secrets coming out into the light, action that took my breath away and finally justice and redemption.

I raked my nails down his length. Dancing required they be kept short and neatly manicured, but they still caused a reaction — just not the one I’d expected as I tried to take control of this little scene.
Before I could blink, Alek sat up, flipped me over onto my stomach, and slapped my ass hard. Taking hold of my hair, he yanked back and brought his lips to my ear. “This is my theater. You are on my stage. You may be my partner here, but make no mistake, I master every move, counter every action. You follow my lead, little girl,” he growled as his mouth moved to my neck and he sucked my flesh between his teeth.

Together they were super hot with scenes sexy, steamy, a little kinky and filthy AF. I unapologetically love it when the H has a dirty talking mouth that makes me blush and especially love it even more when h gives it back just as good which so was the case with Alek and Clara.

”You are the most unbroken soul I’ve ever met.”
“You are strong.”
“You are beautiful.”
“You are brave.”
“You are the light to my dark.”

These beautiful words every woman deserves to hear from the man they love just like Alek said then to Clara.

This story will show you the true meeting of love, sacrifice and the things people do for the ones they care about and how justice prevails. It will show you the dark side of the world where power makes people think they are untouchable but at the end truth comes out and people meant to be a star will always shine bright. ♥️

”Perhaps death made life more precious… Possibly it was the fact the line between good and evil had been breached and yet the only thing that had happened was justice had finally won…
Or maybe I was finally truly free…”

Prima by Alta Hensley and Maggie Ryan took me to the lush world of ballet and dark world of Russian mafia. This was a raw, emotional and action packed romance. It was sinful, suspenseful and sensual.

Clara has exiled herself from the glamorous world of ballet because of some horrible mistakes she made. Of trusting the wrong person. Her reputation is gone. Until the day Alek comes to her door and offers her a second chance. To dance again. For one of the most famous ballet company. But her past is catching up with her. And no matter how hard she tries to hide and run, she has to face it.

This story tackles darkness and abuse heads on. So if you have issues with abuse, proceed with caution. I loved Clara's character. She carried the heavier weight of the story on her slender shoulder. Her life has been dragged through pain, slander and suffering. But her strength kept her going. And she did come back. She sacrificed herself over and over again to protect her loved ones. And Alek stepped up to protect her. He is a gorgeous man who inspired her and believed in her talent. He trusted her against the world's judgement. He supported her and when time came, he fought in the battle with her. He slayed her demons for real. They have insane chemistry too. The action packed storyline kept it interesting.

Prima by Alta Hensley and Maggie Ryan was all about redemption and resurrection. It was a heartfelt and steamy romance about love's triumph over evil.

I thought that Clara showed a lot of passion, devotion, determination, loyalty, and love. You could see how much her passion for dance came through, as well as how much she loved her grandmother. Clara also has such a good heart. She makes decisions that don't seem to make a lot of sense on the surface, but when you look below the surface, you can understand why she did what she did.

I adore Clara's grandmother Olga. She's just so fascinating, and funny, I really fell in love with her.

Alek is a good man, with a lot of intensity and strength. It's a good kind of intensity, and he really uses it to make things better for his ballet company, and to try to keep his brother under some form of control. I really liked him.

*Sloooow
*Not dark
*Needs to be proofread

Clara was a famous prima ballerina until she became involved with the Russian mafia, drugs and alcohol. At the beginning of this book, we don’t know exactly what Clara did or what happened to her, only hearing about the rumors regarding her fall from grace and the fact that she has been living a quiet life away from ballet for several years.

The Volkov ballet needs a new primary ballerina, so Alek Volkov urges Clara to try out. Her joining his ballet means her past will rear its ugly head.

Since I’ve read other ballerina stories, this premise wasn’t new to me. However, I was eager to discover what atrocities Clara committed, leading her to being shunned from the ballet world. While waiting to read about those details, the story dragged. And when her secrets we’re finally revealed, they consisted of just a few sentences worth of information and were very anti-climactic.

This was one of the slowest books I’ve ever read. And I definitely would not have titled this as “a dark romance“. Hensley is really, really, really phenomenal at writing dark romance, but this one was barely gray. Basically, this had SOOO much potential, but there was something missing in the execution. It also would benefit from a professional proofreading. There were blatant mistakes like always using MIGHT when it should’ve been MAY, INTO for IN TO, and TICKING when it should’ve been TICCING. Ellipses and em/en dashes were not spaced properly according to the Chicago Manual of Style, and there were several sentences with missing words or words that just didn’t make sense (for example, “I was a grown-ass ma and yet that single”).

The majority of the mistakes were related to commas:
-The FANBOYS comma rule wasn’t used.
-Commas we’re not consistently inserted before pronouns (for example, “Oh God”).
-Commas were used after coordinating conjunctions although they should have gone before.
-Rules for commas regarding the word OH were omitted.

This cover made me pause. It’s beautiful. I love reading love stories about dancers but they are few and far between. I really enjoyed reading this story, it was both unique and full of intrigue. I couldn’t give this story a perfect score simply because of the one too many sex scenes, towards the end I was just skipping ahead to get back to the plot, which I was very much looking forward to read! When all is said and though, this was a good book!

A path to redemption....

This is an amazing story!!! It blown my mind!
Is dark, twisted, intriguing..... it have all that you want in it.
The beautiful and extremelly talented Clara, who doesn’t think that will ever have the opportunity to be on a stage again.
The dark and sexy Alek came into her life to grant her the chance to redeem her past.
And their encounter was an explosive one - the chemistry of this to is amazing, and the attraction can be felt in the air.
Both of them have their past and they have to fight for their future.
They will found themselves and each other on this amazing journey.

And you will find two amazing authors, that made a damn good book!

Clare is a famous ballerina and was out of control, drugs, sex and drinking. She was also dating a man who happened to be the head of the Bratva. She gives everything up and starts over. Alek comes and offers her a second chance and sparks fly between them but her past won’t stay buried. Fast-paced read with loads of drama, suspense and twists and turns. This dark read has intense chemistry and a story that will draw you in from beginning to end. I loved it.

A ballerina that's been broken, the larger than life alpha offering her a second chance, and the darkness waiting in the wings until the time is right.
What do you get when you mix the Bratva and Ballet? A story with a slow build, second chances, suspense, self sacrifice, a bit of betrayal and finally, unexpected retribution.

I loved this cover! It's different and captures the essence of the story. I love how ballet goes so well with the mafia in this story. Clara and Alek are amazing together and the story is somewhat emotional and touches on some hard subjects. It had me riveted.

Favourite quotes:
- It doesn’t matter how many mistakes you made. We all make them. You shouldn’t be punished forever because of one.
- She could bluster all she wanted, but she really assumed that because of her mistakes, we wouldn’t sign her despite the fact she’d clearly outdanced every single other person on the stage.
- I fucked up my entire life. I couldn’t keep those demons inside any longer. The cracks became too large.”
“And yet you didn’t break completely,” I countered softly.
- I’d traded the spotlight on center stage for a bare bulb illuminating a cement garage floor. And how did that work out for you? No matter how many showers you take, your name is still being dragged through the mud.
- Elegance laced her raw edges.
- Now, I had the potential to be happy once more. I had to hope I could juggle the rest of my life around it.
- Only when I was standing did I take her hand, my fingers completely engulfing hers as I lifted it to my lips. “Believe me, little girl, I can bite.”
- “Several hundred years ago, Tibetan monks were soon to be under attack by the Burmese army. Their pride and joy was a pure golden Buddha statue, and they wanted to protect it. So, knowing they couldn’t fight off the powerful army that outnumbered them, they covered the Buddha in clay to conceal its value. All the monks died in the attack, but the clay Buddha — worthless in the eyes of the invaders — remained. It wasn’t until 1957 that someone noticed a crack in the old clay Buddha. Golden light emerged from the dirty, dark crack revealing there was so much more beneath the surface. When they chipped away at all the filth, they discovered a pure gold statue — a priceless statue.”
- Before I could blink, Alek sat up, flipped me over onto my stomach, and slapped my ass hard.
- A sharp tug had my head lifting and turning as his lips found mine, the kiss as demanding as he’d promised, his tongue pushing inside to dance with mine. I bucked up, not caring how wanton I must look as I ground my ass against any part of him I could reach.
- “And, it didn’t really matter what the press thought I deserved. I was so ashamed at all the things I’d done, I suppose I felt the need to punish myself. So, when I say I understand why people don’t trust me anymore, it’s true. How can they when I’m not sure I trust myself.”
- “Listen, shame I can handle. But your death? That is something I’m not willing to witness.”

Worst lines:
- Ballet is like dreaming on your feet. But when the dancing stops, the nightmare begins.
- “That’s right,” I cooed. “Fly for me, baby.”
I was the dominant one, the male, the alpha, and yet it was my heart that fluttered with excitement.
- “Why didn’t you ever tell the media the truth?” I asked. “Why have you always allowed yourself to be abused? If people understood your reasoning behind it, they’d be much more willing to forgive you. You made a mistake. (WOW)

What initially drew me to this book was the cover and then the blurb. If you know me, I love ballet so the prospect of a romance revolving the art really drew me in. Then throw in the blurb and I was hooked.

First, let me just say that I love the fact that the heroine's name is Clara after the main character in The Nutcracker. Genius. Clara is our main character who has been out of the ballet limelight for four years. At the height of her fame she was involved with a man that was much older and very criminal. She fell into the party lifestyle of drugs, alcohol and was very promiscuous. However, after a major scandal she pulled herself together, left ballet and went to rehab. She now lives and takes care of her only family which is her babushka, Olga. Clara was a wonderful character. She was vulnerable yet strong. She recognizes and acknowledges she has made mistakes in the past but she feels like she doesn't deserve good things because of her troubled past. That all changes when Alek comes knocking and makes her an offer that her Babushka won't let her refuse and pushes her to go back to dancing which she was born to do. She was meant for the spotlight and it would be a shame to let that talent go to waste.

Alek, is our hero. I freaking love Alek. He's one of those characters that is without a doubt super protective and dominant but he is so unashamed for his love of ballet. He loves the history and the artistry of it. I loved the fact that he himself used to dance as well. Now he runs the ballet company with his brother after their mother passed away and decided to continue her legacy. Alek is so affectionate and nurturing. He is so gentlemanly and even had Olga swooning. Make no mistake though, he can take care of himself and will hurt anyone who crosses the people he cares for.

I have to mention that this is a dark romance. There are things that happened to Clara when she was involved with her ex Nikolai who is in the Bratva. She suffered so much in his hands and was the catalyst as to why she decided to leave the ballet world all together. So once she decides to make a comeback with Alek's help and starts to really shine, it comes to no surprise that Nikolai comes back to wreak havoc in her life. I really hated his character and the things he did to her but was so glad that she has Alek sees beyond her past and truly sees her for who she is and will defend her whatever the cost.

I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. Admittedly, I was expecting something different but was very happy with the result. It's not your typical dark romance and I really enjoyed that. It ticked all the boxes for me. Strong female characters, swoony male lead, supportive family and friends, extremely steamy love scenes and a very satisfying ending. I definitely recommend this.

This is my first read by Alta and was pleasantly surprised. Beautifully written, though sinful yet enlightening.
As per usual, no spoiling, but may not appeal to some faint hearted readers. Sexually it wasn’t over the top, yet in areas it was degrading, depending on the character and setting.

Life as a ballerina is stressful/time consuming/ailing/requires determination but there is a love fir the art too. Being a Prima Ballerina, not only requires dedication but is a love for the dance that is in your bones/heart/soul. There are not many Prima Ballerina Assoluta out there as there is no higher regard to the art. This is who Clara is, yet lost that part of her life when as a young 20 + yr old, she involved herself unbeknownst to her naivety with the crime world of the Bratva. Nikolai was Clara’s destruction. She ran away from him and lived in the shadows, her career lost to her but the media wrote what they knew they thought, yet sadly it was also a blessing and devastating too. Her hopes & dreams were taken away from her.
Her career is reawakened by Alek Volkov & Volkov Theatre co. Again, not wanting to spoil. There are twists and turns, heartfelt moments, degrading moments, emotional moments, and yes full disclosure of what Clara had been withholding and what else she didn’t know.
Thoroughly enjoyed and am adding Alta to my author library. Let’s not forget the stunning book cover. For me, and when looking into a new author, a cover as they say, ‘says a thousand words’ in this case, it was perfect. You could actually imagine/see Clara’s character through the cover.
Enjoy

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. This is a dark taboo with a sprinkle of mafia romance.
Alek was no stranger to the ballet world. His mother was a famous ballerina and owed a prestigious ballet company. Now he wants to make sure her legacy stays alive. He knows the perfect pima ballerina. He only hopes he can convince her to come back to the spotlight.
Clara left her perfect life behind. Not only was her life at stake but so was her beloved babushka. She has been a shell of the girl who once danced in the spotlight but it's better than having everyone shun her and talk about her.
I really enjoyed this book. It was different from anything I have read in a while.

I normally enjoy books by these two authors but given the darkness of the story, I wasn't expecting to love it quite so much. I don't know if I'd call this a dark romance, so much as the darkness that Clara has overcome in her life, and very nearly gets dragged back into. There were some wonderful characters, particularly Baba, and perhaps things did go a bit too smoothly for Clara getting back into ballet, but this was an original, at times gritty, read that kept me enthralled from start to finish.

Clara loves to dance in ballet but gives it up due to some painful mistakes in her past. She gets a second chance when Alek steps in to ask her to dance. Alek is with the mafia and takes what he wants when he sees it. He wants Clara and will have her for his own. Clara's past of abuse and pain catches up with her and Alek stands up with her. He defends her from all who would harm her. An exciting read.

This was at times a brutal, realistically believable story of a cruel world. I was angry at times when Clara chose to not share her burden. I was angry with the abuse she’d suffered through. Her relationship with her Grandmother was a relief from the anger, as was her return to ballet and the love she found. There were some twists to the story involving how the lives of others are never far from our own. And, a satisfying ending of karma and redemption.

DNF. I got 25% in and wasn’t feeling it. I lost interest when Alek gave Clara pointe shoes as a welcome gift, saying he knows professionals go through several a year. Professional dancers go through several shoes a week and most companies provide them for their dancers. It’s a given. Then they kiss and it felt super rushed with no chemistry and I just couldn’t.

Great romance

Alex and Clara have great chemistry. This book follows Clara through her reintroduction to the ballet world. Her babushka was delightful and made me miss my own grandmothers antics. This book had drama and suspense and romance all wrapped up into a pretty package. It was an easy read that captivated me from the beginning.

This isn't a Russian mafia love story. There's sexual abuse, blackmail and murders. Clara was trapped in an impossible situation and honestly I didn't know how she would get herself out of it. I liked Alek and enjoyed the fact that the relationship between him and Clara wasn't clichéd and Nickolai was a disgusting and Vile ****. It's probably not something most ppl would read.

Good. The execution of retrieving Nikolai I didn’t like too much or close to the ending. The actual ending with the concert was good. Some parts got a bit boring while others were not as bad.
