From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward comes a friends-to-lovers story spanning more than a decade…

At first, I thought I’d hate spending the summer with Archie Remington—the conceited son of my parents’ friends.
What I knew about Archie: he was gorgeous, pre-law, and had always treated me like I didn’t exist when we were younger.
When our families bought a house together on an island in Maine, he and I were forced to share a bathroom.
The boy I remembered was now a full-grown man—but with the same attitude.
After a rough start, Archie and I unexpectedly started getting along one day and eventually became friends. We shared secrets and bonded during our morning jogs. I discovered that Archie had a wild spirit and that he struggled to conform to his father’s expectations.
Things were cool until I had to go and ruin it, getting drunk one night, and blurting out my fantasy—involving him.
I took it back, but it was too late. Archie had heard me loud and clear. After that, we never quite knew how to toe the line.
When that summer came to an abrupt and shocking end, I headed back to college, unsure if anything would ever be the same again.
Across the miles over the years, he and I stayed in touch as friends, but fate and timing always kept us from becoming more.
You know the saying: If two people are meant to be, they’ll find their way back to each other?
Let’s just say Archie came back into my life in a way I would’ve never expected.
And this time, my heart would
really be put to the test.

    Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
    Spice Level: 🔥🔥🔥

This book was a lot better than I was expecting! I absolutely loved listening to Noelle and Archie's story's and reading from both characters point of views. I loved that the author included both past and present events as it explained how they met and how they built such a strong connection. I absolutely loved how passionate and caring the pair were towards eachother. I felt alot of deep emotions while reading this book and i found myself constantly being curious of what was going to happen as i progressed through the chapters. While reading I constantly had this nagging feeling that I wanted them to be more upfront about their feelings, which I found kept me interested in the story. I absolutely loved the ending, but part of me wishes their was a second book as I crave knowing what happened after the book ended. The only thing that kinda frustrated me is some of the narration for the audio book felt a bit lacking in emotion and a bit robotic at times. But the story itself made it worth while. If you are considering reading, I definitely recommend this book!

I'm a huge fan of Penelope ward. Love her books. This story was well written, had the spice I love.

Unfortunately for me i felt this story was a little sad for my taste....I love the drama and romance in a good read but I felt this was a little to much for me throughout.
I'm glad I read it but im feeling a little deflated right now..
This is just my personal opinion though,.please give it a read if you enjoy Penelope.

Seriously! I am not sure if I am going to be able to string a sentence together - the emotions in this book have left me speechless.

This book will take you on a journey with twists and turns until eventually the stars align but even then twist keep coming.

This emotional journey for Noelle and Archie is beautifully written to the point your head and heart will be thinking about these two characters days later.

Warning - make sure your reading spot is a comfortable one as you will not want to get off this roller coaster and you won’t want to put this book down.

I wish I could give this book more that 5 stars.

With most of my favorite authors, I never read the blurb to their new releases, I just know I need to read their book. As Penelope definitely falls into my "favorites" category I honestly didn't know what to expect but to say I was pleasantly blown away is a severe understatement. I honestly cannot file this book under just one trope, there is friends to lovers, and I could also include enemies to lovers maybe?? Add in grumpy/sunshine... you can see what I mean here. But truthfully, there is so much going on with Archie & Noelle right from the beginning, my heart was practically beating out of my chest one moment, and then falling into the pit of my stomach the next. That the story pans over a decade makes me come to the realization that this book could definitely be adapted into a movie. I don't often say that about the romance novels I read, but there are a small few that stand out amongst the rest & this is certainly one of them.

Toe the Line by Penelope Ward is so much more than five stars.
A beautifully written story of friends to lovers whose feelings for each other were often hidden.

The story of Noelle and Archie spans many years, they had many changes in their lives, changes that eventually bought them along the same path.

Angst, craving, a story of unforgettable joy and unhappiness until their life turns around ...

I was captived from the first chapter to the very last, it is honestly a beautiful story the writing the characters, and the passion makes for an incredible read.

What an incredible journey Noelle and Archie had!
Easily recommended the audiobook will be perfect!

I devoured this wonderful best friend to lover’s romance which had all the feels.

It was and epic story of love which spanned many years and many missed opportunities.

The story of Noelle and Archie was real and original and the trials and tribulations they encounter will have your emotions all over the place.

I highly recommend this slow burn romance which will have you turning the pages waiting for them to reunite and become one!

I listened to the audio version, which was very well narrated by Erin Mallon and Jacob Morgan.

If you crave slow burning intensity, scorching angst and incredible character, then this is the story for you. Utterly bewitching. Totally beguiling. Entirely perfect. The characters were flawed, which just made me gravitate to them more. The story was a slowly evolving one. But it never lacked in emotion or intensity. So many emotions revealed. Frustratingly, addictive mesmerising. A creative and thoroughly complete dramatic beauty. Boundless beauty. 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were great, the setting lovely and of course, my favourite Penelope Ward twists thrown in to make it a rollercoaster of a story! And can I say, that ending gave me goosebumps, loved it!

    ✨DUAL POV✨
    ✨FRIENDS TO LOVERS✨
    ✨(NOT SO) UNREQUITED LOVE✨

The second I started reading this, I could already picture it as a classic 2000s rom com. The set up was perfect and the synopsis prepares you without spoiling the major themes.

I love the realness of the story. Archie goes through a lot of hardships and deals with his daddy issues realistically. The negative self-talk that comes from a negative relationship with a parent was also represented well.

I feel like this unrequited love does have a bit of miscommunication, but it leans towards no communication. They didn’t express how they felt in fear of how the other felt or how it would affect their friendship. All very real and very scary feelings one might feel when falling in love.

My favorite part was the timeline, I think the dual timeline in part one represented both feelings so well. And that Archie had the most negative view on himself. In most stories, Noelle would have been the one with trauma related to the past, but I liked that it was Archie and his story of self love.

3.0 out of 5 stars Drawn out and boring

It really started out fairly strong, with chemistry between the two characters and an interesting premise.

But then it got boring very quickly. The love story was so incredibly drawn out and frustrating, with either of the protagonists not once talking about their feelings - not even when Archie announces a major event in his life (that I found hard to believe would happen in reality). When you love someone, can you really just go a decade without telling the other person, insisting on maintaining the "friendship" when it's clearly gone beyond that?

I don't ever skip parts in books, except for Frodo and Sam travelling through Mordor, but this made me skip plenty of pages with irrelevant, uninspired dialogues and I stopped reading at 84%.

I didn't feel any chemistry between Archie and Noelle once they actually did meet later on again. Really don't recommend picking up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Feel Good Romance ❤️

This was a nice feel good slow burn romance.🥰

Noelle had known Archie since she was 15, and they become friends over a summer she turned 18. That summer, they get "really" close, but decide its best to remain just friends. 🥲

They become the best of friends and always keep in touch at different stages in their lives.

Noelle has always had feelings for Archie, but Archie just sees her as a friend.
Archie values Noelle's friendship too much that he doesn't want to risk having a relationship with her. 🙈

This is such a beautiful story with angst, love, hope, and friendship.🤍
