From the Author

After I'm done at the gym, I head to my apartment. There's nothing better after a long run than stretching. I set my playlist, the yoga app, and begin to follow along.
"Concentrate on your Pranayama breathing." Yeah, you concentrate on that while trying to hold this pose. Five years and I can't do a handstand pose without losing my balance.
Still, like I always do, I try my best and continue with the flow.
"Downward facing dog," says the instructor.
"F**, that's my limit. You can't do that," I hear a very annoying male voice.
"Excuse me?" I ask, straightening up and walking toward Miller's balcony, who is almost jumping the short wall that divides our balconies. "I can do whatever I want."
"Yeah, but not here. I am trying to relax after a long day and what do I see? Your sweet, round ass pointing at me. Tempting me."
He's got to be kidding me.
"You're unbelievable," I try to keep my tone low, but this man is just pushing my limits, and it's only my second day back in town.
"Honest," he corrects me. "I'm nothing but honest."
"Seriously?"
"Shall we replay what just happened here?" he asks and proceeds to recount his version of the events.
"I came outside to relax, read a book, and drink." He lifts a tumbler containing some amber liquid. "Suddenly, you come outside disturbing the peace by blaring Enya and that squeaky woman ordering you to breathe while keeping your butt down and your tummy tucked in close to your spine. I didn't say anything but, Clarice, you are flaunting that sweet ass I love, and I have my limits."
I hate he's using that soft-low tone that turns me on.
But I hate it more that the view has my fingers itching to touch him. He's only wearing a pair of jeans, and I can't help but stare at his bare, muscular torso. Rock-hard abs, just like I remember them. His corded arms have a few new tattoos, and what do you know, my body is reacting to his perfect body.
The craving disappears when I remember he's the enemy and he's taken.
"Does your girlfriend know you stalk me?"
The corner of his lip stretches, and he crosses his arms."My girlfriend?"
"Danielle mentioned you have one."
He nods. "I'm pretty sure this girlfriend you're talking about wouldn't mind if I'm watching you."
"Well, I mind that you're stalking me," I grunt, he makes no sense. "Can you just leave me alone?"
"You came to me," he says. "I've lived here for more than a year. Also, this is a free country. You're the one who, as I explained earlier, disturbed my peaceful night. I'm in my apartment, minding my own business. Suddenly, you're flaunting that gorgeous body, blocking my view and--distracting me."
And now, I'm the one distracted by him and those sexy bedroom eyes. Just one night. If we could do it for one last time, the craving will go away. I lick my lips, and his smug smile reminds me why we shouldn't be together.
"I didn't come to you," I argue.

great enemies to lovers, office romance

great enemies to lovers, office romance
I love Claudia Burgoa's books, they are always heartfelt even when they are are the lighter side, and this one is no different. This book was broken down into two parts, before and after the wedding.Miller is heading to Cancun to attend his sister's wedding and luckily for him Claire is heading there for a vacation with her girlfriends to celebrate her birthday, because his plus one cancels on him and he does NOT want to show up dateless, well you know how moms are when you hit a certain age "When are you going to find a nice girl and get married?", "oh I have the perfect girl for you" all of which Miller does not want to deal with.Claire doesn't like her bosses boss very much as a matter of fact she has a few choice names for him, anyway, when he asks her to be his plus one she immediately declines, but of course you know he is going to convince her. But what you don't know and they don't know is what happens next an OH BOY!!!! Things are hot and heavy between the two, that thin line between love and hate becomes thinner and thinner the more time they spend together, until......Well, that is all you are getting out of me because I am not spoiling anything. This was a fun read that was very hot. Miller melted my heart in the second part of the book, Claire was a strong female character that knew what she wanted and she wasn't going to let anyone push her around, I loved that about her.If you enjoy contemporary romances, office romances, or the enemies to lovers trope I urge you to grab a copy of this book. Happy Reading!!!**I have voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book for my Blog, Nadine's Obsessed with Books**

Something Like Hate is part of the Mile-High Billionaires series. It was another great book by the author who has quickly become one of my favorites. Her books are always straightforward, full of emotions, and charming characters. This book had the enemy-to-lover and office romance going for it and it was an emotional story that will touch your heart.
Miller needs a fake girlfriend to take to his sister’s wedding in Cancun otherwise his mother will try and set him up with women. He was desperate until he saw Claire, one of his employees, at the airport going to the Cancun also. Claire thought helping Miller would be straightforward, they knew they should be careful and not mix business with pleasure. Crossing those lines created problems that changed their lives.
This was a great book and I loved watching Claire and Miller’s relationship grow. I enjoyed meeting all their families and cannot wait for the next book in the series.

This is a near-perfect second-chance romance. The story is engrossing; it's dramatic, without being melodramatic. The characters, revealed through alternating POV, are captivating, and the hero's journey from "Hannibal Lecter" to "Han Solo" (both nicknames the heroine gives him, according to his behavior at different times) is especially gratifying. Claire and Miller are so well written, their chemistry so believable, the reader can't help but be invested in their romance -- a romance which has just the right blend of playfulness, angst and down-and-dirty sex. Miller and Claire's HEA is hard won and completely satisfying.
*This book would have gotten five stars, but there are several typographical errors and editorial oversights.

Miller and Claire were not friends. He was her boss's boss, demanding and uncaring even though they call her their best employee. Claire hates working for them, but loves her job and knows that she is good at it. Claire and her best friends plan a vacation to Cancun. Claire's boss tries to get her to work instead. She turns off her phone and goes anyway. Miller is also going to Cancun. His sister is getting married and he told his mom that he had a girlfriend to stop her from setting him up with every single female she knows. You guessed it, he asks Claire to pretend to be his girlfriend for the wedding weekend. His family loves her. Miller and Claire start to develop feelings for each other. Wedding is over, but they are still together.

Then the project that Claire was supposed to be working on goes critical, and the story stops following the path that you are expecting. Lots of lost notes, emails, and messages take the story in other directions. Years pass.

Miller is the character that I didn't understand. His actions after Cancun do not make sense. What was he waiting on to happen? He was still waiting 3 years later but not taking any action. Yes, action on his part could have resolved the conflict, but 3 years?

Still enjoyed it, ending was satisfying. But Miller, 3 years of just waiting?
  • Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2019
I thought Claire was a fantastic character; sassy, funny, tough, but still vulnerable. She was definitely the best part of the book. The dialogue between Claire and Miles was fun and funny and felt natural.

I both liked and disliked Miles at times. The whole thing with their big breakup was just weird and didn’t make a lot of sense. It just felt like the author forced this breakup for the drama, but it didn’t feel in character with the Miles that Claire and the readers knew. Why would he refuse to listen to her? And then have sex with her, and immediately go to thinking she was all about money, andTHEN expect her to be fine with losing a promotion, and possibly be placed on probation? It was really illogical and immature. He did seem to learn from his mistake, but he was still a bit all over the place. Mainly, he kept thinking Claire was difficult to work with even after she moved back to Denver, and it took him quite a long time to acknowledge that he had hurt Claire. He knew he lost her, but he didn’t seem to realize that what he did actually hurt her. I ended up rooting for them more because it was what Claire wanted, rather than just wanting them to be together.

Next, there were too many characters in the book, which got pretty confusing, and most were inconsistent. Mrs. Archer went from being wise and pretty great (though meddling), to judgy and controlling. Miles’ partner was pretty much a clueless jerk, who didn’t seem to value his “superstar” even though he’d been singing her praises for years. The friends Claire went on vacation with really didn’t appear after the first chapter and could’ve been left out entirely. Claire’s boss at the New York office seemed very smart and supportive and caring of her employees; then turned cold and overbearing. The whole thing with the vineyard client was odd and seemed like it was just for the drama to force Claire to spend time with Miles again, and provide a reason for Claire’s partners to get strangely upset about it. I liked Claire’s family, and her assistant, but most of the others were unnecessary.

Finally, I was happy to have a book set primarily in Denver, as I’ve lived in Colorado most of my life; but for the most part, it was just a setting that could have been anywhere. There wasn’t a whole lot of local flavor.

Overall, it was good book, and worth reading (mainly because of Claire), but needs work on character consistency.

It read like the most heartfelt letter from a man who fell so in love with a girl that he was gutted when he let her get away. He was unable to exist in a world without her. It took almost three years of torture for him to get her back. She was convinced he didn't care for her as he said. She thought he only loved his business. She never trusted him until he made her see him in such a way that she couldn't deny they were meant to be together. There are so many twists and turns in this story you will wonder how the author figured it all out. Lucky for us, she does.
