Off the Ice: A Breakaway Novel (Breakaway series Book 4) Kindle Edition
He’s always made the scoring plays, both on and off the ice, but this time he has a new goal … the one for Meghan’s heart.
I’m Justin Davis, all-star center for the Charlotte Strikers. For years, I chased the spotlight, not only with hockey, but through television as well. That’s why I decided to play the bachelor on Rich and Single. Unfortunately, I was stuck with a fake fiancée from hell who I couldn’t stand to be around. Now that our contract is up, I’m allowed to do whatever I want, with whoever I want. I plan to take full advantage of my newfound freedom.
After being on the show, people don’t recognize me for hockey anymore, even with just winning the Stanley Cup for my team. That’s why I’m spending the off season in a remote cabin in Wyoming where the chances of people knowing me are slim. Space is what I need, but when a down to earth beauty needs help on her ranch, I can’t resist. Meghan Taylor is exactly what I’ve been looking for, even though I’m not the kind of man she wants.
Getting her to see the real me has its challenges, but the more time I spend with her, the easier it is for her to see that I’m not the same guy she knows from TV. Being away from the media is one thing, but as soon as I’m back in the spotlight, I’m afraid it’ll change what we have. I don’t want to lose her, but I also can’t hide away in Wyoming forever. It’s a choice I’m not ready to make.

- Reviewed in Australia on 17 March 2019Verified PurchaseAnother story in this series that I have loved.. such a lovely, funny, spontaneous love affair for Justin after a horrendous relationship with Miranda the bitch... This whole series is a must read.. such great easy reads ♥️
- Reviewed in Australia on 15 October 2018I am both a Breakaway series and an LP Dover virgin, however she had me at "hockey".
I wasn't sure how I was going to go, coming in late to a series, however I should not have worried as with exception of some of the other's relationships, I could read this as a stand alone.
You know what I really liked about this one? It wasn't about the game as much as about the man. Justin was just all kinds of swoonworthy from the minute I met him, an I just needed him to find a good woman.
And that is what he finds - quite by accident too.
Meghan is just what Justin needs, and I couldn't help but cheer for them to make it. I loved that there wasn't any real OTT drama, that they didn't do the not talking thing, believing others thing. Sure, they have their problems, but they - gasp - sort them out like adults!
There is a little scene stealer that wormed their way into my heart too, I can't wait for you to meet them/it/I don't want to give it away!
Off The Ice was just... cute and sweet and tender. I am a huge fan of hockey book, however this was just different, and I liked it.
I am always late to the party, so trust me to come in just as the series is ending lol. However Justin and Meghan's story has gotten me interested in the rest of the series, so I will be going back and reading the earlier books.
- Reviewed in Australia on 17 October 2018Off The Ice by L.P. Dover is the fourth book in her Breakaway series. A surprisingly emotional series of wonderful and unique men and women intertwined in the fictional Charlotte Strikers NHL team. This is the story of Justin Davis and of a new to us character, Meghan Taylor.
After a grueling 12 months pretending to be with his on-screen Fiancée, Justin is done. He needs to take a break. Hockey season is over, the Stanley Cup is won, and he is heading to his newly purchased ranch in Wyoming. What he least expects on his incognito getaway is a beautiful next-door neighbor that is taking his fame in stride.
Meghan is back home for the summer. Her daughter still with her parents in Nags Head. The reason for the separation, much needed work to do on the ranch. What Meghan doesn't expect is a super hot and super famous next door neighbor that is doing everything he can to help her and spend time with her with no expectations in return.
The backstories are touching, the transformations of the characters are heartwarming, and the glimpse of some of the past series characters is precious. I really enjoyed this book in the series. Enjoy!
- Reviewed in Australia on 20 October 2018After taking Dallas's place on the television dating show and inheriting the fiancee from hell Justin was really glad when the season ended and he could get rid of his unwanted "fiance", now he needed a chance to recharge his batteries and where better than the new ranch he has just bought in Wyoming. While here he meets his new neighbour Meghan a widowed mother and the best thing she doesn't know who he is (or does she) . What started out as helping one another and been friends soon escalated into so much more Will another Charlotte Striker meet his match.
This was a great fun story that was just as entertaining as the previous books in this series I am very sad that this is the end of what has been a wonderful ride

5.0 out of 5 stars "He Was the Best Worst Decision"
Verified PurchaseHaving read some other books in this series, I had gotten to know Justin a bit so I was glad to get my hands on an early copy of his story. Not only is he the star center forward of the Charlotte Strikers hockey team, he’s also the celebrity bachelor from the popular reality TV show, Rich and Single. His story begins with Justin's team winning the Stanley Cup and the clock finally running out one his one year contract engagement to the bachelorette he was forced to choose during the show's final episode. The past year of Justin being “engaged" to the lying, manipulative, fame-seeking Miranda has felt like a noose around his neck, but it shouldn’t be surprising that Justin breaking up with her on national television causes a wave of very public backlash from Miranda. Since the hockey season has ended, Justin avoids the publicity by escaping to his ranch in Wyoming, where he meets his neighbor, Meghan.
Justin may be rich and famous, but at his core he’s just a regular guy with a big heart who loves his family and friends. When a woman bumps into him at the airport and then offers him a ride to his ranch, she treats him like a regular guy. The idea of her not knowing about his fame really appeals to Justin, not to mention the fact that she’s smart, funny and beautiful. Meghan lives a simple life. Since her husband died while on active duty, leaving her with an infant daughter, her focus has been on making a good life for herself and Ellie for the past eight years. She’s ready to move on romantically, but she just hasn’t met the right man. Until Justin.
This book was such great fun to read! I easily fell in love with both of these characters, and the adorable Ellie, and was completely on board in seeing them get their happily ever after. They certainly had their challenges – living on opposite sides of the country, Justin's paparazzi lifestyle and Meghan's need for anonymity, and let’s not forget the evil Miranda. But there was such great chemistry that went far deeper than just the physical, and I knew there had to be a way for them to work things out. I enjoyed every step of their journey and was taken in by these endearing, authentic characters as their relationship developed. And having a child in the equation made for some special, poignant moments between Justin and Ellie. This book didn’t feel quite as polished as others from this author, but it wasn’t significant enough to detract from the story or interrupt its flow. This one has a wonderful balance of all the compelling elements of an excellent sports romance and I whole-heartedly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fall in love with Justin and Meghan
Verified PurchaseYou are just going to fall in love with Justin and Meghan. I love hockey reads and add single parents to it is just icing on the cake. Off the Ice if a fantastic read. If you have followed any of the books in the Breakaway books then you got a little taste of Justin and what he was going through when it came to evil Miranda. After the huge win with the Stanley Cup Justin just needs a break and disappearing to his new ranch in Wyoming finding even that spark was the last thing Justin expected. I love how Justin and Meghan slowly come together. Meghan is an awesome widow/single mom not looking for love yet ready to move on finally. Even though their worlds are different I love how Justin tries to keep everything on the down low. But you can't fight the fact that they have a strong draw to each other. You will swoon for Justin even more once he meets Meghan's family and her daughter Ellie. L.P Dover does what she does best and brings you this amazing read filled with not only a lot of heart but plenty of sexy times too. I couldn't put this one down and you will see why once you read it. Go one click this one and enjoy the ride of Meghan and Justin.

5.0 out of 5 stars A magical connection that gave hope, even when things seemed impossible!
Verified PurchaseThis was a fun, sweet romance that really hits you in the feelings! I love sports romance, and this whole series has been great! This book, unlike a lot of sports romance, doesn't throw out a lot of technical terms, trying to impress the reader with their sports knowledge. It focuses more on the romance between the characters, one of whom just happens to be a hot shot hockey player!
Justin is in hot water! His life has skidded off the rails, and he has to lay low for a while! He decides to spend some time at his ranch, in Wyoming. He loves his life, but just wants to be himself for a while. On the way to the ranch, he meets Meghan, who treats him like a normal person, befriending him, but still keeping him at arms length. Meghan has a good life, but she has fought hard for her happiness. Getting involved with someone like Justin, who drama seems to follow, doesn't seem like a good idea.
I loved this story. The connection between Justin and Meghan was magical, even when it seemed hopeless, and that they'd never be able to be more than friends. Even with all of the crazy in this story (and maybe because of it!) this story was a fun read, and fits in wonderfully with the other books in the series. I'd definitely recommend this story (as well as all the others) if you want a something that is going to make you smile! This is definitely that book!
