The Hero and the Hacktivist (The Girl Band Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 7,155 ratings

For anyone who’s ever been on the receiving end of an unsolicited dick pic…

He has the muscles of Adonis, an ego bigger than the sun, and a very clear desire to get back in my pants. Which would be fantastic if he weren’t a SEAL and I wasn’t a criminal.

Although, I prefer the term
avenger.

I’m a hacktivist, cleaning up the cesspool of cyberspace one scam artist and troll at a time, and I sometimes bend a few rules to get justice done.

He’s a military man with abs of glory, sworn to uphold the letter of the law no matter its shortcomings. And if he’d known who—or what—I was, I doubt he would’ve banged me at my best friend’s wedding reception.

Or come back for more.

Which is why he’s now the only thing standing between me and one very pissed off internet troll who’s figured out where I live.

I’m pretty sure he’ll get me out of this alive—and quite satisfied, thank you very much—but I’m also pretty sure this mission will end with me in handcuffs.

And not the good kind of handcuffs.

The Hero and the Hacktivist is a romping fun SEAL / Best Friend's Brother / Robin Hood in Cyberspace romance between a meathead and an heiress, complete with epic klutziness, terrible leg warmers, and an even worse phone virus gone wrong. This romantic comedy stands alone with no cheating or cliffhangers and ends with a fabulously fun happily ever after.

"
Silly, fantabulous humour with writing that has a pace like Pippa Grant's forgotten to take her ADHD meds, laced with characters who have more dimensions than a diamond. The plots are daft, funny, escape reality daft, and The Hero and the Hacktivist is no different." ~ Annie Dyer

Pippa Grant wanted to write books, so she did.

Before she became a USA Today and #1 Amazon bestselling romantic comedy author, she was a young military spouse who got into writing as self-therapy. That happened around the time she discovered reading romance novels, and the two eventually merged into a career. Today, she has more than 30 knee-slapping Pippa Grant titles and nine published under the name Jamie Farrell.

When she’s not writing romantic comedies, she’s fumbling through being a mom, wife, and mountain woman, and sometimes tries to find hobbies. Her crowning achievement? Having impeccable timing for telling stories that will make people snort beverages out of their noses. Consider yourself warned.

A seal and a hacker walk into a bar...
Pippa Grant does it again with The Hero and the Hacktivist where we finally see Eloise meet her match in both Rhett and his Ass of Glory, and an epic hacking error involving an international leg warmer conglomerate involved in illegal labor and financial practices. Rhett and Eloise know of each other, but at Parker and Knox's wedding, they each find themselves needing to scratch a particular itch and find that the other party fits the bill perfectly. Rhett sets off all the bells and whistles for Eloise, but she is a one and done gal. Rhett also thinks it's a one off but at the back of his head thinks maybe her type of crazy could be the key to what is making his life seem...off. After going their separate ways, they don't expect to see each other. After all, Rhett is a Seal on recruiting duty and Eloise is a self-funded hacker due to her inheritance as an heiress. Due to mutual friends, book club, and her all-girl boy band, Eloise is seeing a whole lot of Rhett and is finding a hard time saying no to him, especially his magic fingers when he locks her in the server room after a set at the club and makes her see stars. But Eloise is in trouble, and she needs a hero. Eloise is a hacker; a really good hacker, but she made a mistake somewhere and now someone wants to kill her. Now it's up to Rhett to keep Eloise and her brother Davey alive, and figure out who is trying to come after Eloise. If he can do that, then he can work on the impossible; trying to convince Eloise that sometimes love is worth the risk after all. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it. I laughed so hard I almost peed myself, which is pretty normal for Pippa. I have read every book by this author, so I am heavily invested in the characters at this point. Watching awkward Eloise get her HEA was just wonderful. I did wish for a bit more info on Davey, but this was not his book. I also wanted more background info on the OP that went wrong that caused Rhett to be reassigned to recruiting duty. This situation was repeatedly referenced and seemed to weigh heavily on the character so it felt a bit incomplete to have so much reference to the event and all the players in the event, as well as the parts they played in it and now play, but to not have the details of the event. I know that in a great deal of literature, inference and audience perspective is expected, but in romantic comedy, I much prefer to be spoon fed than to sit back and think "what if?" Eloise was a complete and total nut. Eloise was my spirit animal. So many readers said that she was over the top or she was too much. NO. WAY. It will be interesting to see what Eloise "the mother" is like, but I really hope she is just as wild. I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

Somehow, every book I read by this author gets more hilarious and more outrageous. This time we get the story of Eloise, drummer in an all girl boy band cover band, and Rhett, brother of bandmate Parker. Eloise, hacker extraordinaire, has chosen the wrong target to take down by reallocating millions from the leg warmer company he runs, posing as a woman and scamming trusting women out of their hard-earned money. Navy SEAL Rhett happens to be in the right place at the right time to spirit Eloise away, escaping the clutches of the leg warmer goons who are after her.

Each book in this series of interconnected standalones is terrific, but Grant pulled out all the stops on this one. With every corny euphemism for sexy bits you’ve ever heard and a few you never thought of, and hilariously autocorrected texts from Parker's unique and always entertaining phone, this book had me laughing through every page. Along with the hilarity there's plenty of heat, but the truly special thing about this book is its heart. Eloise behaves ridiculously and makes outrageous statements in order to keep people at arms length. Not only is she scared that being close to someone gives them the power to hurt her, she's afraid she will eventually let down those she loves. Yet somehow, Rhett sees the real Eloise, the amazing, strong, intelligent woman beneath the false bravado, and slips past her defenses, and for Eloise it’s terrifying and thrilling. And terrifying. There's just something special about seeing a loveable, prickly-on-the-outside but vulnerable-on-the-inside character find their forever love.

Returning to Pippa's book world is always a treat, and catching up with characters I’ve come to know and love is like coming home. If you’ve never read her work, you’re seriously missing out, so start with this book and then catch up on the other characters' love stories. And if you’re already a Pippa fan, I don’t have to sell you on this book because you’ve probably already grabbed it. So get comfortable and dig in to this zany and hilarious but touching and heartfelt book today! I can’t recommend this author's work enough -- my life certainly has a lot more laughter in it since I started reading Grant's books.

Two people, each saving the world in their own way—one using more legal means than the other, end up careening into each other in The Hero and the Hacktivist.

Be prepared to cackle, but also be ready to be hit with steam. Pippa Grant is fantastic at writing quirky/kooky main characters and bringing them together with sizzling hot chemistry.

This is the fourth book in the series, and while it isn’t necessary to read the others first, I highly recommend reading the whole series for a better understanding and background of the complete cast of characters.

This is a quick read and is super fun on audio. Teddy Hamilton and Maxine Mitchell capture the humor in this one perfectly.

The Hero and the Hacktivist is the fourth book in the Girl Band series, but is all part of Ms. Grant’s bigger universe of awesomeness. Rhett is a floundering SEAL, a man without an exciting mission, that is until his one night stand and his sister’s best friend captures his attention. Not only is she outrageous, but she’s cute, has so many secrets he needs to unravel, and now she’s in serious trouble. But will this lone, crazy wolf accept the help of her friends and the man she’s falling for, or will his sense of right and wrong get in the way of forever?

Oh my goodness, this book was the perfect blend between being sweet, laugh out loud funny, dig into your heart, and a little bit weird, but it’s definitely the type of book that once you start, you don’t want to put it down! Rhett and Eloise are both a little bit odd, both a lot a bit badass, and both are heroes in their own right! I absolutely loved their connection, the silliness that drew them together, and the seriousness that had them wanting to create something real and special. Eloise is so out there, but she uses her crazy as a way to push people away, to not get hurt, and to not risk rejection when it truly matters. I loved getting to know her more, to learn about her motivations, and to see beyond her wildness! Rhett was the perfect counterbalance to Eloise because he was steady like a rock, practical to her fantasy, and just as much as a hero. He was willing to go the necessary route to save everyone he loved and was ultimately willing to fight for the most important person to him. I really loved them together! I really loved this book! I loved getting to see the rest of the Girl Band ladies and their mates, and I’m actually sad that this part of Ms. Pippa Grant’s universe is over!

This was an okay read. It’s basically a Rom-Com novel. The author has a way with words, which makes it fun to read. However, the plot could have been a little bit more interesting.

PLOT: Eloise lives in a strange world, which she has fabricated. She keeps herself distanced from people and makes people believe that she is a horny, trashy mouthed, uncouth person. All while living a life of luxury and hiding her most prized secret (can’t tell you what that is…Spoiler).

Eloise finds herself in trouble. Someone wants the little hacker dead. In steps Rhett. A Navy Seal and her bandmates brother. Rhett saves her on several occasions and finds himself, falling more and more for her. Now his only mission, is to keep her safe. But how long will he be sticking around after the threat to her has been terminated?? He’s been known, to not stay in one place for long.

Omg I haven’t laughed so much ready a series like I have this one. Love love loved all of the girl band books although I’m pretty disappointed that the Berger twins found their women and got married and I read about it before I got to their own book. Pippa grant you are an awesome author and I can’t wait to get stuck into the rest of your books.

I look forward to every single new book from Pippa Grant. As the year winds down, she remains my favourite author discovery of 2018.
I know she first published in 2017, but with a half dozen books published in 2018, I maintain this is her year!
Yet again Pippa mixes madcap humour with plenty of heart to produce great romantic comedy. I could honestly see these books adapted for TV. Although, they'd never do them justice, so perhaps not 😂
Eloise, drummer, heiress, hacker and mysterious friend to the girls in the band, (Sia, Willow, Parker, Felicity and Kami). We know she is a loose canon but in this book, she becomes a warrior for women, a great friend, a pure soul.
Rhett, by contrast is already these things by virtue of being a Navy SEAL, but in this book he becomes vulnerable and human when faced with falling in love.
The two of them together, make a formidable pair. I would want to be on their team come the zombie Apocalypse 😂😂
An all round feelgood love story.

    Spoiler warning.
Ok. So I loved this book. Right up until the last 3 chapters. I love Eloise. She’s pretty damn funny. I love that quirky weirdo sh!t. I did like Rhett too. But I’m afraid being kept in the dark and betrayed are kinda triggers for me. I don’t give a rats ass how good your intentions are, if you make me feel like he made Eloise feel at the end of this book, you better be doing some hardcore grovelling, for a freaking long time, before I’m getting over it. So the first 32 chapters are 4 star, possibly creeping to 5 star territory for me. The rest I could have done without, and would be lucky to get 3 stars from me.

It totally amazes me that this author's books are such different reads depending on who the main characters are. It never gets boring. They have similarities such as hot guys, smart strong girls, mad cap situations and amusing animals but the feel of the books are very different which makes each so fresh.
This time we get to know the mysterious Eloise and Rhett the superSEAL. Both are great characters with troubles they hide from the world.
Also loving having the band back in this book! Gotta love an all girls boy band cover band playing hipster juice bars!
    A romping great read!!
