Sarah Hegger

Born British and raised in South Africa, Sarah Hegger suffers from an incurable case of wanderlust. Her match? A hot Canadian engineer, whose marriage proposal she accepted six short weeks after they first met. Together they’ve made homes in seven different cities across three different continents (and back again once or twice). If only it made her multilingual, but the best she can manage is idiosyncratic English, fluent Afrikaans, conversant Russian, pigeon Portuguese, even worse Zulu and enough French to get herself into trouble.

Mimicking her globe trotting adventures, Sarah’s career path began as a gainfully employed actress, drifted into public relations, settled a moment in advertising, and eventually took root in the fertile soil of her first love, writing. She also moonlights as a wife and mother.

She currently lives in Draper, Utah, with her teenage daughters, two Golden Retrievers and aforementioned husband. Part footloose buccaneer, part quixotic observer of life, Sarah’s restless heart is most content when reading or writing books.

This book was the perfect beginning to a new series. The characters were well developed and interesting, the plot was solid, and the world-building was excellent. I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment. Fair warning, this is meant as a prequel, so it does end on a bit of a cliff hanger. This only adds to my anticipation for the next book. Having read this author before, I can guarantee it's going to rock! I would highly recommend this story. Dare I say, it's magically delicious!

Maeve is a spirit walker. The original witches of four points of the compass and four elements warn of a danger and a burden she will not bear alone.

Rhiannon is the one cast out by the original three. Blood magic and betrayal may allow her a foothold in her target. It is not clear what her endgame is beyond vengeance and power.

The thing about blood magic, beyond it’s great power, one can never tell quite how it will work, or account all the costs.

Maeve seems called to bear a burden to be some part of what faces the evil stirred up by Rhiannon. She has a stalwart and loyal if unexpected companion.

Their main battles lie ahead

Great read!

This normally not my type of book to read. But this story mesmerized me and I found it difficult to put down. I can’t find the words to say how much I really liked this book.

I enjoyed this entertaining new series. Great world building, complex characters and a well crafted engaging storyline are combined and crafted into one very intriguing package. This book ends on a cliffhanger that will have you eager for more. Of my own volition I am posting a forthright review.

Not bad for a prequel..

The prequel is a little slow in the beginning but then it starts to get interesting. You are introduced to Maeve first, who is a Spirit Walker, then to the rest of the witches and their bonded ones. The history behind the line of cre-witches and how they started was interesting. There are good witches and black magic witches. It's hard to tell if you will like the series from this book but, at the same time, you want to see how this fits into the 1st book. Most prequels start off from the beginning of course but some will either be slow to where you don't want to read the rest or keep going to see how it relates to the 1st book in the series. After reading the epilogue of this book, it made me want to read Cast in Water and see how present day cre-witches are alike or different from the ones in the past.

Overall not a bad prequel but be warned it is slow in the beginning but picks up the more you read.

Loved my introduction to the Cre-witches.

Maeve is the witch in the coven who can commune with the spirits of the witches who have passed on. The spirits tell her of things to come, but not with any clarity. Her coven comes under attack from the villagers who are getting misinformation and they become scared of the witches who have only ever helped the villagers.

As things become scrambled in the castle Maeve and a few of her counterparts take shelter from the fighting and slaughter. Maeve's protector comes along when the trouble is more than he can fight to save. His first priority is to protect and assist Maeve.

Maeve and Roderick will be a powerful couple if given a chance.

Witches, covens, hunky guardians, magic, betrayals, romance and spirits.

Is it any wonder I was hooked from the beginning?

We follow Meave, a spirit walker witch, whom is often isolated from the coven for her connection with Death.

When evil stirs and threatens the Cre Witches, Meave must battle to save her sisters. A burden she carries with her trusted guardian, Roderick.

A wonderful adaptation of the Witch trials, I loved it. The characters were strong, the world of magic is perfectly built by the author.

I binged it in a day and couldn't put it down. Can't wait for book 2.

Welcome to the world of the ancient order of Cré-Witches. In this prequel, we are given the background of the witches, their protectors (coimhdeacht), and the betrayal of the witches by some of their own. There are many interesting characters and some you just want to throttle. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Wow!

What an exciting start to a series. It's fast paced so you barely get a glimpse at the world building but since it's a prequel your supposed to focus more on the history. I can't wait to see how this series is going to go!

Such an awesome book. I can be extremely fussy when it comes to fantasy books about witches, but Sarah has nailed it! It's a rollercoaster ride full of emotions along the way, yet despite reading through tears, I loved this book immensely and can't wait for the next one! Well done Sarah, keep up the good work.

I read this as part of the cre chronicals. So I knew what was going to happen but it gave depth to the first book. I dobt think it matters if you read it first

Magic is in danger and enemies are trying to destroy all magic. They need to kill all witches and just one inexperienced witch with her guardian warrior to stop them. Can they beat the odds being dealt them? Can they save magic? See how they fight to save magic

A story of The Cre-Witches and their Spirit Walker, Maeve. A tale about how she and her bonded, protector, paved the way to a new generation of witches. The epilogue leaves us with the start of a new story.

Prequel

Great story idea. So glad I read this first. It meant when I read the “first” book some of the references made more sense. It’s not necessary to read this first but I like a full picture.
