Divine Hart

Rate this book
Being a poor kid in a rich town was tough. When you're a skater boy from a dusty trailer park, they see you as nothing more than a desert rat. Despite this, Preston Hart knew what he wanted…she was his world. But could he ever be the man she deserved? He didn't believe he was worthy. That was his weakness and weaknesses could be exploited. When he was offered the chance to make something of his life, he knew the cost might be too high. But faced with losing everything he held dear, he took the helping hand; however, everything comes at price and Preston paid dearly.
Being a rich girl in a rich town should have been easy. But when you’re the daughter of an influential businessman who traded your silver spoon for his belt buckle, money couldn’t buy happiness, it could only buy the makeup to hide the bruises. Despite this, Skye Divine had found her solace…he was her world. But he abandoned her when she needed him most and without him, she faced a choice: run for her life or stay in the desert and die.

She’d made it this far on her own and while her life might be falling apart, she’d rather be homeless and starving than go back home. But when her luck finally runs out, she may be left with no option.

Then two worlds unexpectedly collide and this time? The tables have turned.

This book was an OK read. I took half a star off because the author went with the tired, and overused plot point of having the hero claim to have always loved the heroine. He planned on marrying her. He spends five years looking for her..etc. YET...he couldn't keep it in his pants...sigh. So sorry author, but I ain't buying the love connection you were trying to sell me here. On top of that...the heroine did stay celibate. Because...of course, she did...sigh.

That said, there is only one line that alludes to this "I haven’t felt this way about anyone but her, that’s why I haven’t been in a real relationship since I left. She is the only one for me." I took that to mean he had slept with OW, or else the author would have said: "that’s why I haven’t been in with anyone else since I left." It most likely won't bother most readers, plus there are zero sex scenes in the book, so I guess it doesn't matter anyway (lol).

Author popped into my comments to let me know that the hero DID NOT sleep with any other women while he and the heroine were apart. I will bump my review up to 3-Stars.

I did feel this author had a nice effortless flow to her writing. The pace was good, and I never felt the need to skim. The plot was engaging for the most part, but I thought it could have been "more." There are mob elements that are just glossed over. The heroine background is over the top tragic, yet we skim the surface. The same with the hero and what he went through in Russia. There is a whole group of side characters, but they don't offer a lot of depth.

The hero was likable. He was sweet, but I was expecting someone a little more "alpha". When he finally finds the heroine again, he acts quite alpha. Alas, it really doesn't last past that initial meeting. For the majority of the story, he came across a little too bland for me. The heroine annoyed me, to be honest. She didn't appear to be the brightest of bulbs. Plus, she came across incredibly childish most of the time. Last, it was all wrapped up in a rushed but OK ending.

So yea, as I said, it was an OK read for me...

This story got my attention from the beginning, it was different and has a lot of unexpected stories within. It had a rollercoaster flow to it as she slowly filled in the holes for me. She’d allow it to slow down and then throw another little piece to build my interest again, making it very hard to put down. It has a darkish feel, if you want just a taste of dark without too much detail, it really doesn’t need it: it’s a very full and well-told story. I felt many other emotions but, most of the time I just felt sad, both of these characters have had some challenges leaving them with both physical and emotional scars.

Preston has and will do everything for those he loves, putting their needs above his own. He’s a caring boyfriend and loving son. If you’re on his bad side…..I love how he dealt with her father. He had so many other options but this felt more satisfying to me. His emotional struggle is tough to read sometimes as he tries to make it right with Skye, not just because of his actions but the pain she endured as a result of others. I loved his mom, I was glad he told her, allowing her to protect him. He has loyal family and friends and things aren’t always, as they appear to be.

Skye has such a sad story, it’s even sadder that nobody knew, that she never really trusted anyone enough to tell them, but I understand why she didn’t. The dynamics of this group were so different at the beginning. When she first came home it was rough, I shed many tears as she struggled with fear and trust; broke my heart. Preston was so patient and kind, his mom so sweet giving her the time she needed to heal and come to terms with this new life. One of the saddest things for me is that she didn’t get the opportunity to talk to her mom after her dad’s moment of truth. I’m so glad she had so many friends on her side, always.

This was my first book by Heather Shere she is definitely worth another read. She knows how to tell a great story.

I read Preston and Skye's story when it originally released as two novellas. I recognized it but I loved their story and had no problem rereading it. This couple and their story is one that had me completely invested and hooked once again. Even after realizing I have read it I couldn't put it down.

These two have been separated for 5 years and their choices have taken them down two very different roads. When their situations are reversed and the damage has been done is there a way that Preston can get her to forgive him? Will they be able to find that love they had before? Skye has been through hell and back in her life, is there any way to put an end to it all?

I would definitely recommend this book and I am still hoping that maybe Craig will get his story or even Lea. I love all the characters in this book and hope to see them all with their happy ending.

4.5 second chance stars!! This was a beautiful mix of dark, suspense and first love. Great book!!

This book was written beautifully. It tells a story of a young couple (first loves) who ended up in a battle they had no clue about. A battle one young girl’s (Skye) father has always won. That is until one sexy man named Preston decided changes needed to be made.

Oh man I was all over the place with this book. I had a lot of anger for the dueche bag, Bob. I have so much love for Preston and Skye. This couple had me on the sidelines screaming for them to come on top but there were so many
times I was scared for them and everyone around them. Their pain was palpable. I felt it over and over again. And for a book with no sex scenes it was incredibly hot!!

This book brings you on a journey and this is a journey you will not want to miss out on!!

Please be aware there are some triggers in this book.

Preston Hart was Skye Divine's world. Then he left. shortly after she ran away from home to escape the monstrous acts of her father. skip ahead five years and Sky is living on the streets, starving and 2 seconds away from giving up and going back home to face the wrath of her father. As fate would have it Preston storms back into her life, but he is far from the young poor boy that left her and broke her heart.

After five years of searching for her Preston has finally found Skye. She's wary of him though, angry that he left her, but she doesn't know that he left for her, that he left for his mother. Three months was all it was supposed to be and then he would be back and able to take care of her and his mother. Only he was double crossed and almost died. When he returned she was gone, but he never gave up looking and doesn't plan to let her go now that he has found her.

Skye agrees to return to their home town with Preston, she missed him but she will guard her hart from him with everything she has left, but when she finds her self reliant on him for a place to live, protection from her father, and comfort from nightmares she finds her self slowly starting to trust him. Layer by layer all their secrets and pasts are uncovered.

This was a sweet, semi-intriguing read for me. It was slow at times and I was expecting more of a BOOM, finale, or more ummph, but it kinda just ended. Anyways, besides that not to bad.

This story was an emotional roller coaster for me. I loved Skye and Preston, their love for each other, and how they wanted to protect each other. Their combined pasts had me in tears as they dealt with their issues. My heart felt for these two and made the book harder to put down. Thank goodness for happy endings as no deserved one like these two. I recommend this book.

I will admit going into this I was very wishy washy because of previous reviews, BUT I loved it & gave it 5 Stars! If you enjoy 2nd chance romances, this is for you!! The love that Preston had for Skye was the type of love you can feel, you beg for them to end up back together! Great job with this Heather, I really enjoyed it!

This is the first story I've read by Heather Shere, and it was kind of intense, deals with the subject matter of child abuse, but is definitely an interesting read.

Skye Divine is Preston Hart's whole world. But when the trailer park kid is backed into a corner with no other options, he makes a deal with the devil in order to secure a better future for himself and Skye, who has grown up in the lap of luxury. Or so he thought. Flash forward 5 years, and Skye is homeless, living on the street, and Preston has spent every day since he returned from Russia looking for his lost love. A chance encounter puts them back in each other's lives, and now that their roles are reversed and he can take care of Skye the way that he'd always wanted to, Preston can't believe that he has her back.

Well, it's really not quite that simple. Because there are a bunch of secrets that these two were keeping from one another, and they have a mess to work through before they get to their HEA. I wished that they would have been completely honest with one another from the start, though. It takes them so long to get to discussing what happened 5 years ago, and I was itching for that conversation to be over so I could see how they adapted to their new reality. But I didn't feel that happened as fully as I would have liked to have seen. Th

Overall, I really liked these characters, and the pacing of the story flowed nicely. Preston and Skye went through hell and back while they were apart, which made their reunion all the sweeter. The climax to the story is predictable, but where else would you go with a manipulative father like the one they were fighting against? If you are looking for an overcoming obstacles romance and don't mind the potential triggers that come with the character of Skye, then Divine Hart and its HEA is definitely worth checking out!

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Heather Shere was a new to me author when I read her debut Honey Bee but I loved that book a crazy ton y'all so I jumped on her newest release.... and what a journey this was. Divine Heart was a fast-paced, emotional, intense, healing, second chance romance that hooked me at the start and didn't let go until the pages stopped turning.

She was the rich girl and he was from the opposite side of the tracks. And secrets tore them apart for years.

Preston and Skye were in teenage love with a complicated but clear path... or so they thought until one decision, one deception, and one moment changed everything for them. Now it's been years and nothing is the same...not even close with the tables reversing on them. He's far from the poor boy he used to be and she is no longer living in wealth. And from the moment he finds her again, he is never going to let her go. Will he finally find her after all those years? What happens when both of their secrets are exposed? Can Preston and Skye find their own happy ending?

Sharing scenes from past and flipping to the present, Shere delivers a romance that will tug at your heartstrings and make you a believer in lasting first love...even through obstacles that seem near impossible to get through.

I recommend trying this author out.

This was an enjoyable story but it also made me feel quite sad.

"When I left home I left my name and who I was. I didn't want anyone to find me, so I became invisible."

When the boy she loved disappeared mysteriously, one day, Skye Divine ran away from home and has been living on the streets for five years. When she pretty much hits rock bottom, Preston suddenly reappears in her life, offering her a lifeline, which she very reluctantly takes.

"He's like a shot of whiskey, a rich, smoky shot with many layers to it. Something so divine that once you taste it you crave it and will do anything to get it."

When Preston Hart was backed into a corner, he made a decision that changed his life. At the same time, he lost his one true love. When he finds her again, his work is cut out for him in trying to win her back. During the process, shocking truths come to light.

Preston and Skye were star-crossed lovers and spent years apart through deceit and misunderstanding. Both of them had suffered through a lot of pain. Preston certainly took his time getting to the reason why he disappeared, and it was amazing that Skye had kept her secret from her friends for such a long time. However, the two had a fantastic and enduring connection.

Overall, a great read with a good, slightly intricate plot, and great characters.

The story has pain, abuse, love, suspense, secrets, blackmail, second chances, and heartbreak.

This is Skye and Preston’s story. Preston and Skye from two completely different worlds were in love. He’s poor and her father’s rich. But that does not make them love less. But one decision made to help one person turns out oh so wrong. He leaves to take care of things which turns out as a setup. She thinks he left her, so she runs. They lose each other. He never stops looking for her and when he finally finds her 5 years later their lives are different yet again. She is struggling, and he is the one to help. But can she trust him? When all the cards are on the table and secrets are out for all to see with either of them be the same? Will they want a future together or is this the end?

This book is emotionally packed. The story will have you turning the pages but at times you might not really like the characters. Seems to have them flip flopping with emotions and really, I excepted a little more from him. He should have been more alpha in the end and he might have shone it one time but not what I expected for the overwhelming story plot.

I felt as if I was catching up with friends when I read this , the characters ensure that I very quickly became invested in them and their lives, I will admit though that once I started I found it almost impossible to put the book down, so bed in for a while ladies this will take over!
Their past is something that they have to learn to get over and I wasn’t totally convinced that they were going to be able to move past the time they have spent apart. When a second bite at the cherry is placed before them, I hoped that they would grab it with both hands but the oath they took to get to where they needed to be was far from straightforward.
I hope you give Skye and Preston the chance to share their woes with you and the opportunity to shake off the past and enjoy a future that they can create together, I had my fingers crossed for the two of them and wouldn’t be surprised if you did too.
I would recommend this is a heartbeat, it is fabulously well written with an easy pace and charming characterization.

A second chance with so many twists and turns you won’t know which way is up! Divine Hart had me hooked needing to know what would happen next page after page. Preston and Skye have one heck of a story! Secrecy and betrayal from others pull them apart and continue to try to stand between them even after they’ve finally found each other again.
I wasn’t sure what I felt about Preston at first. From loving boyfriend to a man seeming much colder when he first finds Skye again the change in him took me a bit to get used to, but soon the unending love he has for Skye won me over. Skye also took me some time to warm up to. Her struggles were heart breaking, but her stubbornness could be frustrating. As time went on and more secrets are revealed I understood her a lot more and found myself cheering for her to get her HEA. What really stole the show for me though was the obvious deep love these two have. Time, distance, even anger, nothing could stop the love these two have.

I really enjoyed reading Divine Hart. It had an interesting plot line with lots of twists and turns. It was really well written and you could only hope that Preston and Skye can find happines after everything they have both endured.

Preston and Skye are from opposite sides of the track but that doesn't stop them from loving each other. When Preston is placed in a difficult position and finds himself having to walk away from Skye he has no idea of the devastation it will cause. Five years later and Preston and Skye are back in each other's lives but for how long as they are both forced to reveal the secrets of their past. Will it ultimately tear them apart or bring them closer together.

Divine Hart is a great book that I would definitely recommend reading.

In Short
- I liked how you started in the past and it sets up the rest of the book.
- I enjoyed Heather's writing and would like to read more by her.
- I felt it lacked some humph.

In Long
At the beginning of the book you are in the past which sets up for the rest of the book.
I really enjoyed how in depth this was and seeing what happened to lead to where they were. I was really surprised when it then went to current times to see where Skye and Preston were with a few twists and turns.

I can't really pin point why but I wasn't really able to connect with Skye. I felt like even though we slowly learned about her past and what she had been through I didn't really know her as a person or her personality traits. I would have loved to see her with her friends more as I felt that was when she showed her character more and she shined as a character.

Preston, I felt, had a bit more depth to him and I liked his character. His a sweet guy who I loved seeing with his mum and reading about their relationship.

The book was ok paced although maybe a little slow in the middle where I felt in a few places suspense could have been added but it never really came. My favourite scenes are the ones where they are with their friends, I would have loved to have got to know their friends more beyond just the initial things you learn about side characters.

Final Thoughts
I enjoyed Divine Hart, I just would have loved a bit more suspense and humph. I enjoyed Heather's writing however and would definitely read more by her.

I loved this book so hard! This is one emotional roller coaster of a read or at least it was for me. I loved Skye and Preston, their love for each other was just off he charts. Its the kind of love most people dream about. Their combined pasts had me in tears more then I care to admit. I could not put this book down. My heart bleed for these two at some points! Thank God for HEAs, I don't think I could survive this book otherwise. This is a must read guys, everyone needs to go get a copy of this.

This book was an emotional read for me. It's raw and intense. It pulled all the emotions out of me. It had me laughing, crying, and cursing some of the characters. If anyone deserves a second chance it's Preston and Skye. Skye's father is one the most disliked charterers I've read. I wanted to bop him one. Heather Shere did an amazing job on creating the characters in this one. They grab at your heart and you feel like you apart of the story. The journey for these two may have been torture, but the destination will be well worth it.

Just wow!

What a great second book by Heather Shere. I read Honeybee and loved it. I couldn’t wait for this one to be released.

It does not disappoint. This book is an emotional journey. I don’t want to say too much. I don’t think I could it justice. This book took me on an emotional journey I would gladly go on again. Great read. Now excuse me while I nurse this book hangover.

Another fantastic read from Heather Shere! It feels like I have been waiting ages for this book to be released. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and it certainly didn't disappoint! Devine Hart is very well written and the story flowed effortlessly. It had a bit of everything.. comedy, romance, mystery. It was a thrill trying to figure out the story.

Young love at it's finest, Skye and Preston. Skye is part of one of the wealthiest families in town and everyone knows who the Divine's are. She also has secrets, secrets she's hiding from everyone. She is too ashamed to put her trust into anyone, including the love of her life Preston.

Preston, will do anything for those he loves, even if it means changing the course of his entire life. When the unfortunate happens, his world is turned upside down and there is only one person who is able to offer him the help he needs and it just so happens to be the last person he'd seek out.

Skip ahead five years and everything has changed, secrets are revealed and Skye and Preston aren't the same people they used to be.

I can't recommend Heather's books anymore than I already do. I love her writing style and the way she gets you hooked from the beginning.

Divine Hart is an amazing heart gripping second chance romance. I love that this has a touch of the dark side. Heather Shere managed to pull me in from the start and didn't let go. Preston and Skye have this bond that is so strong. I love how Preston fights for Skye and never gives up on her. Preston is sweet and trying to do best for his mom and Skye. Skye is just so strong. Once you get the full back story about everything you see the strength shine through not only from Skye but Preston as well. This read is everything. I loved this one so much.

Good read with an interesting story line that has many twists turns and bumps in the road!
Skye & Preston are teenage lovers when her dad gets in the way to keep them apart.
5 years down the line life brings them back together but it most definitely is not plain sailing.. lies and secrets galore can this pair make it work?

Divine Hart has some good writing but I had a really hard time with parts of it. Skye, and I understand she was young, but she just irritated me like a bad rash. More than once I found myself skipping over her part of the story because it was just a mess. It seemed her answer to her problems was to run away.

Preston’s story was intriguing with his background of his time in Russia. When we finally get the story, it makes understanding where he is coming from easier. However, I just expected more from him in his dealing with Skye and their back story. It seemed that they kept putting off what I would expect would be one of the first conversations I would have had with someone who left without explanation.

I wish this story had a little more depth to it. I can see the framework of a good story here, but it just didn’t play out.

I found out that this was originally released as two separate novellas, one following Preston and the other Skye. It doesn't read like that and after searching some of the reviews on the original works it appears that the author may have retooled some aspects of the story (BDSM is mentioned repeatedly, and since this version was low in love scenes altogether this was quite a surprise) which makes me wonder how the originals may have read.

This was a reasonably engaging tale of two young lovers who are forced apart by assumptions, lack of communication and a meddling, horrible parent (her father). We meet them in high school, and then meet back up with them five years later. In the beginning, Preston is the poor kid from the wrong side of the tracks and Skye the rich man's daughter and we see these positions reversed when they reconnect.

The Good - Reasonably paced and mostly engaging. There's definitely an edge leaving you wanting to know what comes next.

The Bad - The characters don't seem to have progressed past high school. Dialogue is sometimes a bit stilted and awkward. Skye's behavior is odd much of the time and not easily explained by her experiences, same with Preston. Lots of things are kind of glossed over as plot devices but never really explained. I wanted more depth, in all things.

If you're looking for a HEA with characters that have seen some trauma and distance, this may be one to put on your list.
