Deception and Chaos

Rate this book
Sophia Cova lived a quiet, normal life, shadowed in sadness after the loss of her parents in a tragic airline accident. With her older brother being her only living relative and her anchor, Sophia is sure she's destined for a brighter future. But that was until she was taken.

Stolen from her mundane, orderly life, she was drugged, and woke to every woman's worst nightmare.

With only four grimy basement walls and a rancid mattress, she loses her sense of time, and preserves what's left of her dignity by hurtling herself into the safety of her mind. The men, the beatings, they come and go with no reaction, until she hears one word that sends an arctic chill through her body. Sold.

On the eve of Sophia's bidding, all hell breaks loose in the mansion of horrors. Gunfire and screams erupt all around her, as panic rises.

Snatched by one monster only to be taken by another, Sophia slowly starts to learn that not everything is as it seems. When secrets unravel, and the twisted game of cat and mouse ensues, The Puppeteer pulls his favorite strings and chaos brews. Lives are lost while the clock ticks, and only time will tell who will be killed next...

➽ KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

DECEPTION AND CHAOS: Is the first full length novel within the (Chaos #1 ) series by new to me author S.M. Soto.
WARNING: This book contains very disturbing situations, dubious content, strong language, and graphic violence. May contain triggers for abuse victims.

This is one of the most hardest reviews I'm going to have to write up, so much happens in this book, but one thing that stands above it all is the darkness you get thrown into, go into this being aware of that aspect because this author does not hold back..I'll try and keep this as spoiler free as I can.

So here goes..Straight away we’re thrown into the dark and gritty situation Sophia finds herself in, captured and held in a dingy basement, brutalised beyond anything she could’ve imagined, flayed, scared beyond belief. Repeated words racing through her mind, “why me?” It's like I'm stuck in a bad dream, and no matter how hard I try, I can't wake up.

Pic_Monkey_Image

Twenty-four year old Sophia has lived relatively like a hermit, she keeps to herself, she’s never in trouble, works two jobs, and is a full time student. But she's always cloaked in sadness after losing both her parents at the age of thirteen tragically in a plane crash, leaving her brother Garrett, to raise her. He's her one constant in life, the only person she can rely on, the only person she loves beyond belief.

The night she's to be brought onto a stage to be sold is when all chaos breaks loose, murder and mayhem everywhere, she's barely hanging on by a thread, and it's beyond her wildest dreams that she's been saved.

This point right here is where lies become uncovered, a love like no other is found, soul mates clinging to each other in secrecy and all the feels in the world will come rushing at you.

zxz

So here's how the story goes, straight away your thrown into the point where she's been captured, it's dark, it's gritty, it's not glossed over, it's right there in your face with no escape unless you stop reading, but who in their right mind would do that?! Hello!! Not me!!
Then your lulled into a false sense of security, all loved up, all the feels, never wanting it to end.
BUT end it does BOOM!! A twist that had even me in shock and then I'm faced with one of the most biggest cliffys I've fallen over in a long time.. GAH why oh why do I do this to myself!!
Bugger me so the countdown and stalking begins for the next release!!

description~WRITING - PLOT - PACE~
Deception and Chaos is certainly an apt name for this book because it had both in spades. S.M. Soto is a new to me author, so I didn't really know what to expect going into this one, and I can honestly say I was blown completely away by this book. I pretty much loved everything about it. The writing was fantastic. It was well paced. It was well plotted and so very engaging. There were twists and turns. It was heartbreaking at times. It was dark and twisted at times. It was sweet and romantic at times. Last, it ends on a whopper of a cliffhanger that made me wish I had book two in my hands right now. Really, the only thing thing I will say is that I wish we had gotten Creed's POV. Other than that, this was an utterly perfect read.

~HERO~
DIAVOLO CREED SABELLA...Creed was a bit of a prickly pain in the ass enigma for the majority of this book. I honestly wasn't sure if I liked him or wanted Sophia to kick him in the balls half the time. However, this author did a fantastic job of slowly peeling away Creed's layers and exposing a more in-depth and caring man. Oh, he still isn't what you would call a "good guy" but he was definitely the picture of perfection when it comes to an anti-hero.

~HEROINE~
SOPHIA (happens to also be my daughter's name)...Sophia was a kickass heroine. I feel like I could gush forever over how much I loved her character. She is undeniably one of the best heroines I have read. She was SO strong after everything she went through. She was feisty. She was loving. She stood up to Creed. I loved the strength of bond her and Garrett had. I hope she hangs onto that inner strength because she is undoubtedly going to need it for what's coming.

description

~SECONDARY CHARACTERS~
There were a lot of intriguing side characters in this book for sure. I kind of hope that some of the guys get books of their own at some point (fingers crossed). I loved Garrett (Sophia's brother). I also really liked Finley and Mera. I also want to know more about Jose (especially), Kam and Ricky.

~HEAT LEVEL~
LOW...This was a very slow burn type of book. It is almost 70ish% or more before we get any sex scenes. However, due to the way the plot unfolded slow burn was the perfect way to go. Once Sophia and Creed hit the sheets, they burn them up.

~ANGST LEVEL - SEXUAL HISTORIES~
LOW-MEDIUM...I didn't find this book overly angsty. The first part was difficult to read. The level of violence aimed towards the heroine is high and could be triggering to some. If you want more details, feel free to message me. Neither were virgins. In fact, there is basically no mention of either characters sexual pasts. There is a smidge of OW drama and no OM drama.

~IN THE END~
Did I enjoy it? Completely!
Was it perfect? Pretty much. Like I mentioned above, I would have liked to have gotten Creed's POV, but that was really a very minor issue.
Would I recommend it? 100% YES!
Who would enjoy this book? I think most readers would enjoy this story. Especially those who like a well crafted dark romance with intriguing characters and a well fleshed out plot.description

Ummmm I'm not even sure how I'm going to review this book. I will say that I almost stopped reading at Chapter 10 because it was making me so upset. My heart was pounding and at times I was crying so hard I couldn't read the words - some scenes were so raw and powerful that I literally felt sick at certain points.

After a pep talk from a fellow beta reader I pushed on. So glad that I did. This book was EXTRAORDINARY! It's my third read from this author and it's so very different from her other two books. I have no idea where/how this story came about as the author is such a sweetheart but it's definitely one that needs to be told - it's not a pretty/happy read, it's not for the faint of heart as it involves some very dark and difficult subject matter but it's handled in a respectful way and for those that enjoy a dark read this one's for you. I will write a more detailed review once the blurb etc is revealed but trust me when I say you want this on your TBR.

I beta read this book.

This book started off with one hell of a bang. There was no lead up, no false sense of calm. We were dumped into the hell that Sophia was experiencing and it was glorious! However, once she was rescued, I realized that I haven't loved and hated a story this much in a long time!

Sophia's torture seemed never-ending and it was everything I look for when I pick up a book in this genre. The men who held her were brutal, unkind and inconsiderate, just like they were supposed to be. I lived for every time she got punched, kicked, starved, whipped, etc. It was described with perfection. With those scenes, this author garnered a fan in me. But then she was saved and it got so boring.

The beginning of the book - su-freaking-perb!
The middle - oh my gosh, why is this chick boring me with her existence? She was pathetic and needy and kept putting herself in situations that were unnecessary and then she'd get upset when no one (especially Creed) reacted positively to her. She was such a child!
The end - okay, so we're back in business. Finally!

I had a lot of problems with this book and here are the ones that really pushed at me:
✦ Every day that was explained through Sophia's eyes was like experiencing Ground Hog Day. She'd seek Creed out. She'd plead with him to interact with her. She'd beg him for attention and affection. She'd get mad when he didn't respond, as if he owes her something. She sounded and acted like an obsessed lunatic. Then it was rinse and repeat.
✦ She found out that she's probably in Missouri with the guys. When she's out to dinner with them, she meets her brother's girl (Wendy) and says to herself:
There's a twang to her words, some sort of accent that I can't place. I've never been much good at accents, nor placing them, but if I'm not mistaken, I sense a bit of southern in her tone."

Who hit this girl over the head with a stupid stick? If I'm not mistaken, her entire statement was dumb, which seems par for the course for this girl. At 61%, she was just as bimboliciously ridiculous as she was at the start of this book. At least in the beginning, I found some sympathy for her and her foolish choices while she was getting her azz beat. What would be her excuse this late in the game? It was bad enough when she proved herself insane at the start, doing the same things to her captors and expecting different results. She's so absurd.

✦ She asks herself, 'is the traitor plotting against us?' What 'us'? Sophia, you are not part of the group. You are a guest. Sharing their space doesn't entitle you to question them or learn their secrets and it definitely doesn't make you one of them. It only gets worse though... What part of being an off-the-books government agency that kills people, that have been doing it a lot longer than you've known them, do you really not get? Asking about their missions... NO! Asking members not to go on missions... NO! Sophia was stupid and selfish. Someone please drag this drama queen off the dang stage!

I think my biggest problem with this story (so far) is that it's told solely by Sophia. It was impossible to understand or connect to the male protagonist, Creed. He sounded delicious. He sounded as dark and dangerous as I hoped he would be. However, not getting inside his head... sorry buddy, just not feeling it. So when he says things like,

“So beautiful,” he whispers in a tortured voice. “Damnit, Sophia. You make me want things I shouldn’t. You make me crave things I shouldn’t.”

I can't really believe it. Sophia isn't a strong enough character to stand on her own. And her side of things doesn't convince me of Creed and his feelings. I need his voice!

As there was enough in this story to get my blood pumping, for me to be invested in what happens next, I'm off to read the next book, Blood and Chaos!

Deception And Chaos by S.M. Soto is the first in the chaos series and what a fantastic start it is I only hope this series gets better.🤞
It's kind of a romance suspense but a little twisted and darker.
There's kidnaping, torture, rescuing, falling in love with a devil (whose human really and a hitman called Creed) plenty of naughtiness(of course) and a twist of an ending you never would of seen coming.😱
After going through some frustration in the first half of the book your left breathless with how quickly it moves along and then your frustrated again because your left with the famous words
To Be Continued.....

you know what? I went into this series without much expectation. But I have to admit that the two books I've read so far from the series has blown my mind.
I could not put the books down.I was hooked and I devoured it.

Deception and Chaos + Blood and Chaos are awesome reads. It's dark, bloody, chaotic and I for one, LOVED every moment of it.

S.M Soto is a new author for me and if this is how well she writes her books, than put my name on her list of fans because I am obsessed!

The chemistry between Creed (I mean, come on! even the name is DIVINE!!!) and Sophia is ELECTRIFYING!

There's something about this series that just pulls you in and captures your undivided attention with it's crazy plot line, intoxicatingly amazing characters and cliffhangers that frustrate you and makes you sit on the edge of your seat.

Deception and Chaos + Blood and Chaos are thrilling reads!

What an AMAZING dark romance!!! From the beginning, this one held me captive. Sophia has been taken against her will and we get thrown immediately into her living nightmare. It starts out very intense and very disturbing and I may have been a tad scared.

description

After being saved from her kidnappers, things settle down a bit but Sophia starts to realize that things are not as they seem. She realizes there is so much she doesn't understand. The charater development was so well done and I enjoyed trying to fit pieces of the puzzle together with Sophia. Who should she trust? Is she truly safe???

description

Then there is Diavolo Creed Sabella... the devil himself who Sophia cannot help but be drawn towards. He is danger personified but Sophia cannot deny his magnetism. The attraction is palpable and while Creed may be a silent, deadly threat to others, he is a fierce protector for Sophia. He tries to push Sophia away for a long time because he wants to protect her from even himself. However, their animal magnetism is not to be denied.

description

It seems like Sophia is safe for now and she is in a good place with Creed. And then BAM! Her world turns upside down again. The twist was not completely unexpected but I was not prepared for everything that followed this turning point in the story.

description

If you're a dark romance lover and a fan of anti-heroes, just go grab this one now but be warned there is a HUGE cliffy. I highly recommend!

Wow!!

This one came out with a bang from all corners!! I honestly had no clue how this was going to play out but I never expected the dark intensity and brutal passionate moments. I underestimated everything when it came to this story and I’m smacking myself for not being as prepared as I should’ve been.

“My body is in tatters, my mind is in shambles, but my heart, my heart is broken beyond repair"

Sophia is the very definition of a good girl. She’s a hard worker, stays out of trouble, and she keeps to herself at all times. Being close to her only brother and getting his phone calls in the bright spot in her week and she wouldn’t have it any other way. But you know what they say about being comfortable in your own space? Don’t be.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Kidnapped, lost, broken, with nothing but darkness all around her, Sophie, is now looking at her new normal and it’s not good. What happens when the life you had suddenly gets taken away from you? How do you get that back? Being a fighter just became her new shield and for better or worse, this girl is not going down without a fight.

Creed is an a league of his own. After being a part of Sophie’s rescue, he knows that he’s still not a good person and no one could ever make him see differently. But Sophie has different plans for this brooding bad boy and when they find themselves in danger again, everything changes.

I have to say that I really loved this one!! It was raw and brutal and yes I did cringe a few times, I loved it!! I loved the intensity, the desire, the fight and I loved this heroine. Sophie was remarkable, and I really admired her strength and drive. I wanted to smack Creed a few times because quite frankly, he made me stabby but I grew to love him and respect what he was trying to do. Now as for the cliffhanger, fuuuuuuuuuuck!!! I’ll leave it at that.

Speechless. That’s what I am right now.

This is my first book my SM Soto and it won’t be the last. This story was everything!! I’m currently trying to figure out how to worm my way into the authors life and get all the words!! Cliffy of all cliffies!

Sophia, poor Sophia, I just want to find her and hug her and never let go! What she suffers and survives. Not many people do. She breaks, but only for a moment, her body is the one that gives out. But her heart? She thinks they broke her completely but they didn’t. Her heart is of a fighter. She never gave in to them. She is a survivor. I’m just in complete awe of this character.

Creed. Even his name gives me goosebumps. He is an enigma that one can’t escape. As a reader we are completely drawn to him. It’s the best thing, to love a bad guy who isn’t really a bad guy. Yes he’s done unthinkable things. Circumstances. But that heart of his, it’s loyal and protective. Him being Sophie’s protector is what my hopeless romantic heart swooned of. He was beyond swoonalicious. You may find him in my book boyfriend dungeon.

Can I get more of Garrett too please??? The overprotective absent brother. Gahh he was so delicious to read about. I want more of him too please.

Now the ending. Jesus. I need anxiety meds hard! What. The. Heck. Was. That?????? I’m a naturally paranoid person, but this took the cake. I just can’t even process this. And apparently I was not so speechless but can ya blame me????

Read at your own risk. Sanity in danger. But damn what a hell of a ride it is. Don’t head my warnings, although maybe a good stiff drink would help?? That should definitely be added to the blurb 😂

⭐️ 5+ "The Devil Her Savior" Stars ⭐️
Wow! I finished this book in the early morning after hours riveted to my kindle and while writing this review a few days later, I’m still speechless over this impressive story! When S.M. Soto reached out to me for reviewing Deception and Chaos, I was really intrigued and interested by the premise of the novel, but nothing could have prepared me for the level of love I had for this exhilarating story! Everything about this romantic suspense / dark romance was impeccable in my eyes; the pace, the captivating mystery, the shocking events, the definite connection between Sophia and Creed! Their powerful attraction triggered an intense anticipation in me I hadn’t felt in a while for a fictional couple!

"My body is in tatters, my mind is in shambles, but my heart, my heart is broken beyond repair."

The book starts on a dark tone with a captive Sophia suffering despicable acts at the hands of her kidnappers. I couldn’t help but feel so intensely her agony through the striking prose of the author that only enhanced the poignant emotions! These moments are emotional and gripping, but the appearance of Creed in her dark world is so brilliant! That man is just the perfect anti-hero! He’s a vault, taciturn, keeping to himself, but constantly her fierce protector, her savior. He’s complex, persistently pushing Sophia away but also showing her a caring side under his harshness. He knows he’s a bad man and doesn’t want to taint the innocent Sophia in spite of his irrefutable fascination with her. Peeling his multiple layers was pure delight! I swooned so hard over him. I can now count Creed as one of my absolute favorite hero!!!

As much as I loved him, Sophia is also a remarkable heroine! She’s resilient and wants to heal from her traumatizing captivity. Creed’s proximity only creates a sense of peace and security in her life. I enjoyed immensely her interactions with him where she shows a sassy and determined side! She sees more than the ruthless man in him and goes for it.

"The man was like finely crafted blade - sharp, lean, and lethal. If I wasn't careful, the beautiful dangerous devil could destroy me."

My heart felt like it was going to explode from all the torture this book put me through. The high level of combustible attraction between Sophia and Creed left me breathless more than once. They also gave me chills, palpitations and hot flashes. I was a mess of sensations. They incited such potent physical reactions from me with all the feels! I just wanted them to succumb to the temptation!

Don’t let my raving about this couple fool you though. This story is so much more than a romance, with the captivating mystery behind the whole kidnapping and human trafficking. There’s new elements of the puzzle revealed here and there throughout the novel and I couldn’t help but make my own assumptions. Let’s just say that the last few chapters unraveled into an intense ending I didn’t see coming!

"For one small second, he wasn't just cold and heartless, he was my protector and a man that had the capacity to feel."

I kept the intrigue as vague as possible, because this book is best appreciated if entered blind! S.M. Soto can now count me in as an ardent fan of her writing! I can’t wait for the next installment in the Chaos Trilogy, as the cliffhanger dumbfounded me! I’m more than ready to get my hands on Blood and Chaos! I want more of Sophia and Creed’s passionate romance and the electrifying suspense at the core of this addictive series! Deception and Chaos is a new top favorite read of the year for me!

Wow, what an incredible first instalment in the Chaos trilogy! At first, it reminded me a lot of JL Drake’s Broken trilogy. The similarities are uncanny. That said, the plot is just different enough, and the characters are unique. I love Creed as a romance hero, and his backstory is compelling and extremely dark.
This book is not for the faint of heart! There are many dark and disturbing scenes, particularly featuring torture, which is expected of any dark romance with characters who have military/mafia roots. You are forewarned!
The suspense elements are phenomenal, and even when the characters are “safe”, you know that it won’t last for long. There are many twists in the plot, and while they were predictable, that didn’t make the book any easier to put down. The book ends on a HUGE cliffhanger, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book, which is free on Kindle Unlimited!

More and more we hear about cases of human trafficking around us. Women and children go missing every day. Taken from their homes and families to never be seen again. We know this evil exists. We know humans are sold as sex slaves so it doesn't surprise me that we see more authors writing their books with this plot in mind.

Sophia Cova is a 24-year-old woman who after being drugged and kidnapped outside her home, wakes up in a different country. Her new home is a dark basement where strange men speaking a strange language are there to hurt her. Hurt her in ways she didn't realize it was possible. They want to break her. They want to sell her to the highest bidder. But, just when the auction is about to begin, she's rescued by a group of men.

Creed (Diavolo Sabella) is a mercenary. He and his group of men are working for the American government. Most commonly, their missions end with the bad guys dying at their hands. They will stop at nothing. When their recent mission encounters Sophia, a strange situation presents. Sophia is not an unknown victim. Sophia is the sister of Garrett, one of the men in Creed's team. This will complicate everything, beginning with his attraction to Sophia to knowing someone wants her back.

Deception and Chaos had good characters but I found too much of it quite predictable. I knew who the bad guy was very early on. It didn't surprise me. I also had a problem with how easy Sophia got over being taken and abused. Then, she jumps into a romantic relationship with Creed which she initiates constantly. Someone with her amount of trauma, wouldn't want ANY man close to her. Worse, she's surrounded with multiple deadly big guys and she's completely comfortable with them.

I'm reading the second book next. I do want to know how the story unfolds.

Cliffhanger: Yes

Si te gusta a little bit of dark romance, la acción en los libros y el romance, girl these are your books.
Highly recommended.

I don't know what to say!!!

Oh my gawwd. Shut up. Lol.

if you havent read any book by this author please check out her other books.

SM Soto has been true to this story. Dark and twisted, is what she gave, a surprisingly good read that will have you hooked, gobsmacked and then BAM.....the ending is not what you expected.

Now, tbh at first it was hard for me to continue with this story cause at first it lacked in a way that I didn't feel connected, now when Sophia was found my thoughts changed and I was hooked, I couldn't not leave it hanging. The feelings between Sophia and her brother Garrett, you can feel the emotions of siblings. Also, Sophia and Creed it took a while for me to actually connect them two together, but just his grey eyes and his dark soul and Sophia's persistence made her character witty and strong-willed and even funny.

The characters throughout the story are strong and you'll click with them where they play a part and the twist you think you know will totally keep you wondering.

Highly recommended.

This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

This one started off great ... and then it kept going down.
Full of alpha males and unscrupulous men.
And I'm sorry for my next statement, but Sophia is just SO DUMB.

I'm not going to elaborate, but I literally couldn't stand her ...
My brain keeps screaming "weak" and yes, she's not a strong character. And no, I don't only read books with strong characters, but there are things she could've done different and avoided other situations... But no. She also kept acting like a teenager and saying things that made want to bash my head against the wall 😂

The idea of the book appealed to me but it definitely wasn't for me.

This was a good dark erotic read that I loved. Sophia Cova was a normal college student working two jobs she has been through a lot her parents were killed in a plane crash. While going to her apartment she was kidnapped and held for 9 months. The beginning of this book was brutal I felt bad for this poor girl she was beaten badly. She was recued by an elite operation and she gets a surprise turns out her older brother Garrett is part of team. Garrett has been looking for his sister for 9 months and he is shocked when he learns that the girl that was recued is his sister. Garrett is full of guilt and he overprotective. While recovering she learns about what her brother does for a living and all the secrets that he was keeping from her. Sophia also learns about the guys on the team. Creed who is some what of the team leader who saved her. I loved Creed turns out he is an underboss for the Italian mafia he grew up fighting and killing for them. Creed and Garrett realize that they have a trader on the team and it turns out that my first guess was right. Creed was frustrating at times when he tried to push Sophia away from him because he is not a good guy. Sophia tries everything she can to get to know Creed and he begins to open up to her. The sex scenes between these two were ok I wished the author would have been a little more descriptive. When the mole was revealed it was a shock to Sophia and all the things that he did including setting up her kidnapping. This was my first time reading this author this book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Jesus Christ...
The header for the book says, “a twisted game of cat and mouse.”
I don’t have any other way to describe what I just read other than exactly just that.
This story... Oh, my god. It’s going to stay with me forever.
S.M. Soto takes you on a ride so unlike any of her other novels. Be ready for the deep and dark end you’ll experience because it definitely won’t be easy. But, I promise you, it is SO WORTH IT!
Lies, deceit, hopelessness, innocence stolen, pain, love, HATE... you are going to feel and experience EVERYTHING through Sophia’s eyes.
The amazing thing that this author has been able to do with all the books I’ve read from her is that she’s had the ability to transport us inside the mind of her main character and have us live in the moment, as well.
There are so many directions this book will take you in, so many ways your mind will try to steer you in, and because of it I can’t delve too much into the story.
Who can you trust?
I don’t think I’ve ever spoken to myself or ranted so much about a book as I did with Deception and Chaos. And the ending? I wanted to DIE! I literally screamed “WHAT THE FUCK?!”
What an amazing introduction to the Chaos series. Congratulations on such a raw, powerful, beautifully yet heartbreaking poetic masterpiece, S.M. Soto.
I can’t wait to see where the next book is going to take us.
Excuse me while I go cry my anger out now. **inserts middle finger out into the world**

This book was a little hard for me to get into at first. I will admit I have triggers and that could be why. I mean I was interested but at the same time I wasn't but I kept trying to get through it and I am glad that I did because that ending....WOW!! I can't wait to read the next book to find out what happens!

And can I just say Creed is absolutely going on my list of book boyfriends!! He reminds me of someone that I love for all of the same reasons ;)

I recently discovered S.M Soto and really am enjoying working my way through her back catalogue.

I was going to read this one the other day, but I had just finished reading another book where the heroine is captured and I didn’t want to ruin the reading experience by comparing the two.

Here, Soto has written the introduction to quite an interesting world. I assumed this was a Mafia book (I must have seen something on Instagram) but for the majority of this one, we are with our heroine, Sophia and hero, Creed in a safe house for "Federal" agents. Though, I have been assured the Mafia part is coming in the coming book...

The book jumps straight in to the darkness. Sophia has been captured and is being held against her will. We don’t initially know how long she has been captured for, though we soon learn that it has been nine months. She has been tortured daily and is verging on dying. Suddenly, she is forced to wash and is taken to an auction to be sold. Here though, she is rescued.

Now, I won't go into anymore detail, because I don't want to give too much of the plot away, but she is taken by Creed, our hero along with the other “good guys” and is then forced into hiding out with them.

I have to be honest, typically books where the heroine is held against her will (in this case, firstly to be sold, and secondly to be protected) for a long period of time, don’t work for me. The reason for this is that there are only so many things that can happen whilst the heroine is locked in a room for the whole book. I tend to find that the stories usually become very repetitive as they do the same things, day in, day out, whilst at the same time, the characters start to fall in love…

This book is Sophia’s POV only and in all honesty, I hate to say it, but I find her a bit annoying.

We also have no idea what Creed is thinking at this point.

But I am sort of invested enough in what happens next, so onto Blood and Chaos.

Swore I read this already

Um honestly very surprised. I've never come across a book where when I read scenes and it seems like an altered version of a book that came out 4 years ago. Really surprised that this is rated as good as it is. Feel kinda bad that I couldnt even finish it cause I kept thinking about this other book, and that it was recommended by a friend. Just really was a let down and thats saying a lot, cause for me even books I dont really get into I still can finish them.

This book was friggin awesome!
From page one you are thrown into the things that nightmares are made from.
Dark, disturbing.... my kinda read.
Reminded me of two of my other favourite authors, Ker Dukey and K Webster.
That ending!!! Wow. What a cliffhanger.

That’s all I’m saying because I don’t want to ruin it for others! No spoilers on this one!
A MUST READ!

meh. it was all a little too easy. the instalove, controlling brother, and possessive alpha male tropes made this a no for me. also the writing was a lot of telling and not enough showing. AND there's a cliffhanger so i dont even know how this whole story ends. sigh...

MY THOUGHTS⇣

This started out rather dark with subject matter that was difficult to read/listen at times...but quickly moved away from that...and then became kind of boring and left me thinking too much about whether it was believable or not. Sometimes a slightly unbelievable plotline can be overlooked if the story keeps you engaged enough, but this failed to do that. And yet...

I was pretty caught up in the ending, enough that I might even try the second book. It's a big maybe because the narration is abominable, her male voices are so awful...I think maybe she tries too hard to make them sound manly and they just come off as a cringe-worthy kind of cheesy. Although, it could be doable since the next two books have added a male pov/narrator.

Deception and Chaos was my first book by this author. I'd say the book definitely started off with a bang and I got invested really easily.

However, I enjoyed the first half more so than I did the second half and I don't really blame the book for that. I blame the hype online.

I was seeing so many people online call this book a dark romance, and as someone who LOVES that genre, I obviously got super excited! Sadly, this isn't a dark romance, it's more so a romantic suspense.

To me, for a book to be a dark romance, it doesn't simply need to have dark elements (which, grant it, this book definitely had some), the romance itself has to be dark. In this book, that wasn't the case. The romance was more so along the lines of what you'd expect of romantic suspense (which this book was also marketed as, not just dark romance, so, fair enough).

The disappointment kind of clouded my enjoyment of the second half, unfortunately, because I was waiting for the relationship between the MCs to go dark and it ... well, it never did lol.

With that being said though, the book was still enjoyable. The suspense and intrigued were good and kept me guessing. I enjoyed the characters, Creed is my kinda man and I'm not mad at all I get to have more of him in the second book haha!

I'll admit I did see that final plot twist come from a mile away, but it didn't make me any less intrigued to know how the hell it'll unravel and what our MCs will do about it.

Even if the surprise of it all was dimmed, it was still a good plot twist. I'll definitely be picking up book two when it comes out!

Wow, what was that? I didn't see this coming.

Deception and Chaos is book one in S.M. Soto's new Chaos Series and it is indeed a twisted game of cat and mouse.

Sophia is an incredible woman. After all she had to go through she's able and willing to live and love. She's so strong and I love strong women in books. Creed is the big, bad criminal who can't resist her, even if he tries.

The story is amazing. I enjoyed the slow burn and the chemistry between Sophia and Creed. There are a lot of twists and turns, the dark side of the story is so scary and made me feel so helpless, afraid, sad and angry for Sophia. The ending was unexpected (kindle-throwing) and I can't wait for book two.

There are stories in life someone should tell. And this is one of those stories. Thank you for sharing 😍
