When my ex waltzes back into my life, claiming he wants to be a father to my son after eight years of silence, I’m more than a little wary. I refuse to let him come into my son’s life and turn it upside down. But after making a scene at my office, my business partner and best friend, Cristiano Mendes, approaches me with a proposal. A terrible one, considering I’ve crushed on him from the time I turned thirteen, and the fact that he’s never shown any interest in me.
Marriage might be the solution to one of my problems, but being married to Cristiano has its own set of repercussions.
Cristiano Mendes
Sorayah Wilson stopped my heart the second I laid eyes on her when we were just kids. Since then, I’ve done everything I can to protect her.
Marrying her is easy, because she’s my best friend. I’ve always been able to keep myself in check but being around her and her son Matteo every day, makes me long for this thing between us to be real.
Only Sorayah doesn’t know that I’m keeping a secret, one she might never forgive me for.
Maybe I’ve read too much stories like this one to appreciate it any longer. But by my opinion, besides a good looking cover, it’s no difference with a harlequin book.
Sorayah and Cristiano have been best friends for years. Both have always harbored secret feelings for each other but were too afraid to act on their feelings. Sorayah didn't want to lose Cris in her life if they tried to be more but didn't work. Cris had a troubling past that made him feel like he didn't deserve to have Sorayah as anything more than a friend. But when Sorayah's ex-boyfriend/baby daddy comes back into town to try and weasel his way into her and her son's life, Cris comes up with an idea that they should get married so that her ex can't take away her son if they have a stable loving home for him. But when they are pretending the real feeling want to come out and play also.
I really enjoyed this one. There wasn't too much angst or too much will they or won't they with this one. I really enjoyed both Sorayah and Cristiano; and the side characters, family and friends, were super fun as well. This was a fun, steamy and quick read. I felt that there were a few things left unresolved but I still really enjoyed this one. I would give it 4.5 stars.
Sorayah is a single mom, she is hard working and will do anything for her son. She owns a business with her best friend and the best male role model in her son’s life, Cristiano.
I loved the friendship between Sorayah and Cristiano. They have known each since they were 13 and instantly formed a friendship that has only grown stronger over the years. They have a ton of chemistry between them, but neither of them really acted upon taking their friendship to something more.
Seeing Sorayah and Cristiano finally and slowly taking their friendship to the next level was great. There were some hurdles that they had to overcome but truly given everything they are better together on handling whatever life throws at them as a couple.
I loved Sorayah and Cristiano’s two friends and I really hope that there is more in store for this group! If you’re looking for a single mom, best friends to lovers romance this is one to read!
Sorayah and Cristiano's story is one that I couldn't put down. I loved their best friends to lovers storyline mixed with a marriage of convenience situation. Add to it years of love, longing and suppressed feelings towards each other. It just made their story all the more beautiful.
Cris just has been there for Sorayah just like she did and when she got pregnant he has really stepped up when her ex checked out. Cris, despite his playboy ways as a way to avoid his real feelings for Rayah, has been the constant for her and her son. He’s an amazing friend and a father figure to her son. They make each other better. Their chemistry is off the charts and their connection is undeniable. They just made sense together. Of course, their story is not an easy one, when her ex came back claiming rights and secrets Cris has been keeping from her is bursting to come out.
All in all, I loved this story. I wished it was longer. And I hoped we get Sorayah's friend's story next.
The Upside of Down is a sweet friends to lovers romance. Cristiano is definitely my new book boyfriend.
Cris and Sorayah have been friends since he moved in next door to her as kids. As their feelings for each other begin to cross over from friend to something more, they each feel the need to keep the other in the friend zone. When Sorayah’s ends up with an unexpected surprise, Cris is there to support her. The second time her life takes an unexpected turn, Cris is there with an offer of marriage. Can Sorayah and Cris figure out their feelings for each other or will they forever be “just friends?”
I absolutely love Cris and how supportive he is for Sorayah. His love for her is utterly endless. Sorayah is a strong single mother and she keeps Cris on his toes. I loved their journey from friends to lovers.
I enjoyed this story so much. If you love friends to lovers, then The Upside of Down needs to be on your to be read list.
Single mom? Yes please! Sorayah and Cristiano took my heart and I couldn't stop reading. This was sexy, swoon-inducing, and sweet. I loved Cristiano's protectiveness towards Sorayah and how he basically treated Matteo as his own. Not everything is perfect but the story flows so well and I loved seeing them finally take their relationship to the next level.
I hate DNF’ing a book but honestly I’m just so bored with this one. I could definitely feel the love between Cristiano and Sorayah, but I just couldn’t connect with them.
If you’re a romance reader who prefers your main characters to only be with each other, this will be a disappointment. First chapter has Sorayah talking about sleeping with another man even though she’s in love with Cristiano. Second chapter has him breaking up a sexual relationship with a woman he dislikes even though he loves Sorayah and knows she has feelings for him. I couldn’t finish the book after that. Some people feel second hand embarrassment easily, I experience second hand sadness so I prefer romance where the main characters are only with each other. I have a policy of not reviewing books I can’t finish, but I also read reviews before I pick up a book to avoid certain triggering content. I had checked reviews for this one and not one had mentioned other women or other men. I thought of readers who might feel pain at the surprise of reading about this and wanted to issue a warning for them. Too much angst at the start here. I’m going back to reading Mariana Zapata and Aurora Rose Reynolds’s books.
Another amazing and sexy book from this author. The Upside of Down is a best friends/marriage of convenience romance with a ton of heart, laughs and two friends who would do anything for each other…except be honest about how they feel.
Sorayah and Cristiano were perfect for each other. How they cared and shared their lives was incredible. This was also a train wreck waiting to happen because how could two people who were secretly in love with each other get married and it not become a mess? They fought their feelings so hard…even when it was obvious to everyone else.
Nicole always writes the sexiest books so the steam is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥! But something about Cris and Roya made it even hotter (maybe it was that sexy Portuguese accent I kept hearing in my head).
Overall another amazing book that I highly recommend!
I think this is my favorite book so far from this author. The chemistry between Cristiano and Sorayah was so effortless. I loved all the Portuguese in there too!
I would say this is a second chance romance even though their first time around didn't really get off the ground, but Cristiano stays ever present in Sorayah's life as a sweet guardian angel for her and her son Matteo.
Then her good for nothing ex comes to throw a wrench into her life and, of course, Cristiano is there to stand by her, but standing turns to dancing, then cuddling and well 🔥🔥🔥🔥.
I loved this BOOK! And the cherry on top is that they flip house as a living and as a HGTV junkie that sealed the deal for me!
Check out this heart-warmer with heavy doses of heat TODAY!
Cris & Rayah have an intense love, but don't tell each other, which made this story a bit more angsty than I was expecting. There are also a few things throughout the story that are on my "no" list.
Still, the characters are well thought out & the writing is solid. I love the banter & friendship they have!
This story has laughs & tears, steam (🔥) & some 😮 twists up its sleeve!
Nicole Rodrigues is a new author to me. I have no idea why I haven't about her before. The woman can Write. Cris is such an amazing hero. I absolutely adored him and the little Matte. Raya is such a great mum and just an amazing person. I loved this book so much I read it in one sitting.
A beautiful story about friendship and love between two souls destined to be together. Through life's ups and downs Sorayah and Christiano's friendship was one that stood the test of time, and it seems so did the love that they both hid from each other. This was another favourite of mine by this author 😊
Loved this friends to lovers story which was steamy as well as sweet. The storyline flowed well and the jobs the characters had were interesting. I also enjoyed the fact that drama was kept to a minimum.
Great read. I finished it in one sitting. I loved the dynamic that they Rayah and Cris had. Their friendship was so solid that it made their chemistry burn even hotter.
I totally get my Cris did was he did and I don’t blame him. In the end it all worked out.
I loved this book more than I thought I would. It captured me right from the beginning, and I did not read the blurb since I’m a fan of Boom Factory. Lots of sexy times in this one 😉.
This is the first book I have read by this author but it won't be the last. I love her writing style. I loved the characters and the chemistry they shared. This was one of the best friends to lovers books I have read. Definitely a five star book.
I really enjoyed reading Nicole Rodrigues, I really loved how she first set up Sorayah and Cristiano being best friends first and foremost. While they might have loved one another forever they both put their friendship first because neither wanted to ruin the friendship with the possibility that the other didn't love them back. I would definitely read more about the side characters in this story because they too were very entertaining. Growing up Sorayah's best friend has always been Cristiano ever since he moved in next door, and when she is unexpectedly pregnant at twenty with her no good boyfriend Cristiano stepped up and was everything he wasn't for her and later her son, Matteo. During that time Sorayah truly realized how much she loved Cristiano, but not wanting to ruin what they had she remained silent, until Matteo's father, Trevor, unexpectedly shows back up in their lives. He's learned that Sorayah is doing well for herself as co-owner of the house flipping business that she helped Cristiano start and that they are going to get a show. With that knowledge Trevor threatens to take custody from Sorayah in order to get child support from her, unless she pays up. So Cristiano comes up with a play, they get married to show that Matteo has a more stable life with them than Trevor. While Sorayah is thrilled to have a plan she can't help but worry about how hard it will to keep her feelings in check when she's so close to Cristiano... Ever since Cristiano moved to the US from Portugal as a teenager he's been in love with the girl next door and his best friend, Sorayah. But because of past mistakes he's always felt that he isn't good enough for her so he kept his feelings to himself. Even when he was playing dad at all the doctors appointments for her pregnancy he never said a word. Now that everything that he has built with Sorayah is being threatened by Trevor and his selfishness he decides to step up once again for her and Matteo to protect them both. Will this pretend marriage turn into something real or will it go back to the way it's always been between them as just friends?
Oh wow… What a beautiful story about friendship and love 😊
Soraya Wilson and Christiano Mendes have been best friends ever since he moved in next door. Even though both of them have been in love with each other just as long they never crossed their friendship line. And then Soraya got pregnant and her boyfriend was a total loser. Since the day that she found out she was pregnant the one being by her side was her best friend. Now its years later, she has a son Matteo and she and Christiano have a business together and life is great. Well except for the feelings they both have for each other.
And then Matteo’s dad comes back in the picture and now she needs her best friend even more than before. When Christiano suggest they get married to keep Matteo she jumps all in. When lines are being crossed and feelings come to light how will they both handle it. How will Soraya handle the secret that Christiano has been carrying around for so long. Will it bring them together more or will it end everything…
This was such a sweet hot steamy filled with amazing chemistry story. I loved Christiano. He was freaking amazing. Everything you would want in a partner. He was dependent, he was strong, he was hella sexy and an amazing role model for her son and an even more amazing best friend. Soraya didn’t let her ex bring her down. With her best friend by her side she definitely had it all together. They were awesome together and will definitely have you hooked from the beginning to end 😊❤❤
This is the story of Cristiano and Sorayah who have loved each other since they were 13. But they never told each other their feelings because they were afraid to mess up their best friends relationship. At 17, S ends up pregnant and C is their for her the entire time until now 8 years later when the ex comes to town and threatens S's son and they feel the only way to fight back is with marriage.
But C has some really HUGE secrets from S. And some involve the ex and some involve where he came from before he even met S. When those secrets come out, they rock S's life and threaten her future with C.
This was an interesting story. I really enjoyed the relationship that S and C had and how the two families are intertwined in each others life. The author did a great job creating character I loved and showing us their deep relationship and also progressing from friendship to something more. There were many hot scenes in the story and they were burn your kindle hot!
The biggest trope in this book is the whole fake relationship and marriage to keep her son safe from her horrible ex. The author did a great job using that trope and made it her own.
I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Nicole Rodrigues always writes the swooniest male heroes and she certainly didn't disappoint with Cristiano.
Who doesn't want their hot Portuguese neighbor bestie to become their husband practically overnight? No one!
Soraya Wilson needs her BFF in more ways than one and when Cristiano Mendes comes through like the besties he's always been to marry her when her loser ex shows up out of the blue threatening to upend the life she's build for herself and her son, she finds it hard to fight her true feelings and keep the relationship platonic--as if she could with his sexy self.
Forced proximity brings their pent up emotions screaming to the surface, along with some steamy scenes--note: the elevator scene, it will make you melt. But will the secret he's been hiding all along be enough to push her out of his life forever?
If you enjoy a best friends to lovers/fake marriage trope, then look no further.
A best friend to lovers story that had me swooning.
Nicoles always writes the best love stories with the write amount of steam, drama and super entertaining moments that makes you grab the story without letting go.
Sorayah and Cristiano have been best friends for years, never wanting to crossed that line. Cristiano thinks that because of the life he had growing up and some secrets he keep from Sorayah that he is not good enough for her. But in his eyes she is the only woman he truly wants.
When Sorayah is facing an unpredictable situation, Cristiano is there for her with a solution that will made them be in a very close proximity where they may not be able to resist each other.
This book was so beautiful and amazing. Best friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes and Nicole Rodrigues absolutely nailed this story.
Sorayah is an absolute bad a**. She’s a single mom, she co-owns a business with her best friend and she’s just kicking butt and taking names. Cristiano is the sweetest man ever!! He’s an amazing friend to Sorayah, an amazing role model to her son, and a fantastic business partner.
They’re amazing apart, but together they are even better. Their chemistry is off the charts hot, the connection undeniable. They make each other better, and everything about their story was just perfect. Sure there were some bumps in the road, but they led to something pretty amazing! I need a story for Sorayah’s best friend Sophie now, please don’t leave me hanging Nicole!!
The Upside Of Down is my first book by Nicole Rodrigues but most certainly will not be my last . This story had me hooked from beginning to end . I could not wait to see how it all unfolded , so many secrets and surprises you will not see coming .one of the things I loved most was that Soraya and Cris didn’t just jump into a relationship but started as friends and developed from there .Their relationship was not always easy , just as everyone does they had obstacles to work though . I cannot express how truly invested I become. So many emotional moments, and sweet and sexy ones as well , two amazing lead characters and a flawless story line that will keep you so intrigued , you won’t be able to stop reading .Not to worry there is are plenty of steamy moments and chemistry as well . This is simply a beautifully written book
Sorayah and Cristiano have been best friends since they were 13 years old when he moved in next door with his family, and they have loves each other just as long, but have never crossed the line to become more than friends. When Sorayah fell pregnant at 17 Cristiano was there for her, and they are no business partners. Now 8 years later Sorayah’s ex shows up at their office threatening to turn her life upside down as he now wants to be a father to their son Matteo. Hearing the argument Cristiano comes up with a solution and she jumps ay the opportunity. But Cristiano has a huge secret, so will this tear them apart? This is a well written story which is sweet, and with secrets, friendship, family, emotions, love, and is an entertaining and steamy addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
When Soraya found herself pregnant as a teenager it wasn’t the baby’s father that was there for her but her best friend Cristiano. Years later when her son Matteo’s father reappears and wants to be a father to their son once again it is Cristiano who is there for her and suggests that the best way to protect Matteo is by them marrying each other.
Cristiano and Soraya are best friends and business partners so even those his feeling for her extend beyond friendship he doesn’t want to ruin the most important relationship in his life. When a threat from her past resurfaces, he will do whatever is necessary to protect but he has some secrets of his own.
Soraya and Cristiano have always been there for each other through all the ups and downs so there is no denying they are meant to be together.
This book is amazing! Cristiano and Sorayah are explosive in this beautiful friends to lovers romance. They are childhood best friends, turned business partners and they are rediculously attracted to each other. Neither one wanted to chance ruining the amazing relationship they have, so they just try to deny the electricity and try to live separate romantic lives. When Sorayah becomes pregnant, her boyfriend bolts, leaving her to raise their child alone. Cristiano is the swoon worthy best friend that swoops in and helps her raise her son, and their friendship is so beautiful to read. This story is amazing from start to finish. Needless to say, the chemistry and especially the denial of it is nothing short of delicious. I’m so in love with this book!
This book had me hooked from the beginning and I couldn’t wait to see how the story and the secrets unfolded. It was breathtaking, intriguing, sweet and sexy! Cris and Sorayah had such a beautiful friendship from the start. They were so loyal and protective, but they also brought each other peace. Well until they didn’t, and you need to read it to find out why. Matteo made me smile because he is the sweetest, funniest little boy! You should read this book for the microwave, the doctors office, the note, the shower, the rings, and the beach alone. I’ll tell you what, I’ll take a sexy guy with a man bun who will call me angel, fight for me and love me forever, any day!
Sorayah and Cristiano are best friends who have been denying their feelings for too long. Sorayah’s baby daddy comes back and it has Sorayah going out of her mind with worry which causes Cristiano’s protective instincts to kick in.
Of course Cristiano’s solution is marriage. They love each other so they can surely make it look real. The chemistry is 100% real and that’s the biggest concern. Someone always gets burned.
Unfortunately for them both it cuts them to the marrow when reality strikes. Thankfully they respect each other enough to stop and listen to each other. They need to be a team to beat the baby daddy into submission.
Nicole is a fairly new author to me but I have enjoyed everything so far and this book will keep you entertained!
