The Little Village of Happiness: A gorgeous uplifting romantic comedy to escape with this summer Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 4,450 ratings

The beautiful new story from the bestselling author of The Summer of Chasing Dreams. Escape to a little seaside village, where the sea sparkles, the sunshine is guaranteed, and change is in the air. The perfect place to fall in love this summer…

Willow McKay needs a fresh start. Her recent break-up may not have left her heartbroken, but it’s certainly wounded her pride. Desperate for a change, an advert offering free homes in a picturesque village on the Cornish coast sounds like just what she needs. Without thinking twice Willow packs up her life and heads to the village of Happiness.

But when Willow arrives, she finds ramshackle cottages, shops lying empty and villagers that seem in need of cheer themselves. It's nothing like the pretty picture the advert had boasted. It seems Happiness was too good to be true. That is until she meets the handsome estate manager Andrew Harrington.

His passion for restoring the village to its former glory is contagious and soon they are working together, forming a secret society to bring happiness back to Happiness. And as sparks fly between them Willow can feel herself falling. But Andrew is holding something back.

Will they succeed in transforming the old village to its original beauty before it’s too late? Can the gift of happiness really save a village, and can it save Willow herself?

Get swept away to the sun-kissed Cornish coast with this gorgeous love story, perfect for fans of Jill Mansell, Sophie Kinsella and Katie Fforde.

Holly lives in a little white cottage by the sea. She studied media at university which led to a very glitzy career as a hotel receptionist followed by a even more glamorous two years working in a bank. The moment that one of her colleagues received the much coveted carriage clock for fifteen years’ service was the moment when she knew she had to escape. She quit her job and returned to university to train to be a teacher. Three years later, she emerged wide eyed and terrified that she now had responsibility for the development of thirty young minds. She taught for four years and then escaped the classroom to teach history workshops, dressing up as a Viking one day and an Egyptian High Priestess the next. But the long journeys around the UK and many hours sat on the M25 gave her a lot of time to plan out her stories and she now writes full time, doing what she loves.

Holly has been writing for 8 years. She was shortlisted for the New Talent Award at the Festival of Romance. Her short story won the Sunlounger competition and was published in the Sunlounger anthology. She won the Carina Valentine’s competition at the Festival of Romance with her novel The Guestbook. She was shortlisted for Best Romantic Read, Best eBook and Innovation in Romantic Fiction at the Festival of Romance. She is the bestselling author of 26 books selling over a million books worldwide. Holly's books have been translated into French, German, Italian, Dutch, Bulgarian, Estonian, Turkish and Russian.

I have read quite a few Holly Martin stories and she never fails to make magical stories.
I loved the village of Happiness and of course the romance between Willow and Andrew. As everyone knows "the course of true love never runs smooth" and Andrew and Willow in spite of their strong attraction to each other, still have moments when life gets tangled and missunderstandings and their efforts to sort things out are well written.
I loved this story and highly recommend it to everyone. Thank you again Holly Martin.

Let me first say this is wonderful book. I have read jewel island series by holly, so I know I will have a sweet, holiday mood romantic story while I started, but wow I was blown away. The narration of characters, their character arcs, the storyline everything was perfect. And I love the fact that the villages or the small town that holly creates for the stories are so beautifully described as much we want to live there and experience the same as the characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Little Village of Happiness

As always, Holly Martin has written another stinking adorable book.

After her breakup and needing a new fresh start, Willow heads to the village of Happiness after seeing a beautiful advertisement. If she can start up a small business, she can stay rent free. When she arrives, she sees the shambles that the village is in, but she doesn’t let that get her down.

Andrew, our hero, is the villages handyman and shows Willow her new cottage. He and Willow have an instant connection, but both have sworn off relationships. Sparks fly, but Andrews holding something back that could break them. Can they make it work while bringing new life to Happiness?

Gosh, this was so so cute. Andrew and Willow made a great team. While the village may have been in shambles and in need of a lot of work, they remained upbeat and positive about everything. Also, their little Secret Society? Gah. My heart. This book is filled with so much happiness! If you’re looking for a sweet, light hearted romance, check this out. You won’t regret it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet summer dream of a romance

This is a nostalgic summer romance that is cute and has a bit of depth to it as well. The leading characters are engaging; the secondary characters are not given much time on the page, but they add to the story. There are moments of connection worth savoring, and others that are skimmed over too quickly by the author. The pacing is fairly quick with minimal time spent with the characters at odds, which could be considered anticlimactic, but the story is a warm, feel-good tale. There are some silly moments, some predictable “other woman” sniping bits, and some obvious secondary character tie-ins for other novels in the series. The best part of the story is the positive relationship skills modeled by the protagonists. They actually communicate and work through their problems—so refreshing!

This book features a character who is hearing impaired, and the author overdoes the etiquette messages, but it’s still great to read about a character who has a fairly healthy attitude in spite of what is considered a disability.

The sex scenes are pretty basic, almost formulaic, and rather brief so there’s some action left to the imagination. This book is still written for adult audiences who have had their own relationship drama and is not for kids.

There are a few grammatical errors, but overall the writing is fairly well edited for distraction-free reading.

Even though I liked the story, I don’t know that I’ll read another in the series as I like more adventure and suspense.
