Perky (The Do-Over Series) Kindle Edition
One hundred years ago when I was young and impulsive (okay, it was five, alright? Five years ago…) I let my boyfriend take, let's just say...compromising pictures of me.
(Shut up. It made sense at the time).
Surprise! The sleazy back-stabbing jerk posted them on a website and, well, you can guess what happened. That’s right.
I’m a meme. A really gross one.
You're seen the pictures. And if you haven't – don’t ask. And don't look!
As face recognition software online improves, I get tagged on social media whenever anyone shares my pictures. You try getting a thousand notifications a day, all of them pictures of your tatas.
So. I’m done.
It’s time for revenge. Let him see how it feels! But how do you get embarrassingly intimate pictures of your jerkface ex who double-crossed you five years ago?
Especially when he’s a member of the U.S.House of Representatives now?
Getting sweet between the sheets with a congressman is pretty much every political roadie’s dream, right? I’m one in a crowd.
Except to this day, he swears he didn’t do it. Pursued me for months after I dumped him five years ago. Begged me to take him back.
And I almost did it. Almost. I was weak and stupid and in love a hundred years ago.
Okay. Fine. Five.
But I still have the upper hand. Second chance romance has all the emotional feels, doesn’t it?
I can’t wait to punch him in the feels.
All I need to do is sleep with him once, take some hot-and-sweaty pics of him in... delicate positions, and bring him down. That’s it. Nothing more.
Pictures first. Revenge after. And then I win.
At least, that’s how it was supposed to happen. But then I did something worse than sexting.
I fell in love with him. Again.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Julia Kent writes romantic comedy with an edge. Since 2013, she has sold more than 2 million books, with 4 New York Times bestsellers and more than 21 appearances on the USA Today bestseller list. Her books have been translated into French and German, with more titles releasing in the future.
From billionaires to BBWs to new adult rock stars, Julia finds a sensual, goofy joy in every contemporary romance she writes. Unlike Shannon from Shopping for a Billionaire, she did not meet her husband after dropping her phone in a men's room toilet (and he isn't a billionaire she met in a romantic comedy).
She lives in New England with her husband and three children where she is the only person in the household with the gene required to change empty toilet paper rolls.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 July 2019Wow. Julia Kent has done it again. I know all my Julia Kent reviews start this way but I have no other choice. She is by far one of the best authors I read.
The sass and snark that comes off the page has me hooked. I love the character interactions, story arc and pure emotion that flows from the page. Every story had little comments that link back to other series characters, that gives me so much joy to know all these people live in the same universe.
Perky and Parker are the epitome of lost love. An incident 5 years ago sends Perky running and hiding. When Parker turns up to Mallory and Wills wedding rehearsal rehearsal (see Fluffy for that rollercoaster) Perky still cannot forgive. Parker though has had enough of being ignored and as the newly elected, youngest congressman, he can put all his charm to good effect.
I could not put this book down and you are a fool if you do not read it.
That being said, if you read it you will love it. Give snark and love a chance.
I can't wait for Feisty next 😊
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 February 2022There were many things I loved about this book. The characters were strong, varied and interesting. Even the secondary characters had great personalities. I loved the trio of friends - quirky, caring and supportive of each other whilst being honest at the same time. The storyline was different as it tackled online posting of nude pictures without the owners consent. Parker's character was the best!
Persephone and Parker were in a relationship which broke down when a nude picture of her was released on the Internet. She believed that he had done this despite his numerous denials over the years. For 5 years Persephone had to deal with the staring and lewd comments made to her despite all attempts to remove the picture from the Internet. She was shocked when she met Parker at her friends wedding rehearsal and decided to get her revenge by recording him during sex and releasing it online which would damage his political career.
I loved the interaction between Persephone and her friends - hilarious. I also liked how the relationship between Parker and Persephone gradually changed from fury on her part back to love without ever denying the fierce attraction between them.
I took away a star because I felt that Persephone's dialogue with her friends and Parker was a bit immature at times- this made the book feel longer to me than it actually was. A little bit repetitive too.
However, I did enjoy the story, would like to read more in this series so I recommend this book for a fun read.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 May 2021An absolute treat of a story from Julia Kent, that I would definitely recommend for anyone looking for an entertaining and funny rom-com book.
Persephone aka Perky had her heart broken by her ex Parker five years ago, and by chance they meet up again at their mutual friends wedding rehearsal dinner. Perky and Parker's break-up was particularly brutal, which Perky has never forgiven Parker for. This is an energetic and witty second chance romance story. Perky is a mix of hilarious, bitter, angst-ridden and desperate, while Parker on the other hand is smooth, assured but is eager to put things right between himself and Perky. Sparks and drama follow. From here their relationship progresses in a very enjoyable and engaging way.
The ensemble cast of characters in this novel are warm, engaging, and witty and there's plenty of heart, heat and romance to keep this book moving forward in an entertaining way.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 February 2022Knew it was his mother as soon as she entered the story. Flimsy story line and plot. Not my kind of book, however am sure I will be in minority
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 August 2019Julia Kent nabbed my attention right away and took me on an exhilarating ride filled with emotional baggage, passionate encounters and an underlying good heart in each of the characters (main and secondary). Really enjoyed their well-written story. Fun book. Persephone and Parker are interesting characters as well as Mallory, Will, Fiona and Fletcher (Can’t wait for Fiona book, hope it’s fletcher she ends up with) and the plot was fantastic. A phenomenal read, that will leave you with the biggest book hangover of your life. If you have not read Fluffy yet, definitely go and pick it up, then read this book after it to get the absolute pleasure out of both books. Happy reading!!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 April 2021The humour, sarcasm and wit that comes from the pages of this book make for another enjoyable book in the 'Do-Over' series. The more I get to know the characters in this series the more I like them. It was great to carry on from the story in the first book but these books can all be read as standalones but you would be missing out if you read them like that.
When a face from her past appears unexpectedly it leaves Perky angry, confused, turned on and out for revenge. Having not seen Parker for 5 years since he broke her trust and made her an internet sensation as a meme of her topless and a couple of furry friends in the background Perky is determined not to fall for him again. This is a great read that also sets you up for the next book very nicely.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 March 2023This is another brilliant book by Julia kent, perky,Julia and Mallory are close friends and look out for each other, but even her friends can't save perky from the betrayal and heartache that happened five years ago, the Parker comes back, protesting his innocence, but can she trust him
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 August 2019I enjoyed Perky..the characters are lovable, relatable (we all have slightly insane besties...I hope!) and fabulous...loads of laugh out loud moments but I felt like I needed a couple triple expressos to read Perky’s randomn inside thoughts and keep up with her conversations at the same time...I’m already hoping that Fiesty will be more decaf....like a Fiona’s aura! Well worth the read x

4.0 out of 5 stars Yay!
Perky and Parker are adorable. Like they can't help their attraction and love though Perky is trying really hard not to cave in (or maybe not that much lol). I loved them together and the fact that their story starts exactly as the first book ends, it's like having just one biiig book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh out loud again!
Julia Kent has been one of my favorite authors since I picked up her first of the shopping for..... billionaire series books!
If you want a book to get you past all of life's crazy times, just grab one of hers!
The biggest problem with these reads is you don't want to put them down so you finish them too soon! But not to worry, the second, third and fourth time you read them you enjoy them just as much!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perky and Parker
Persephone (Perky) trusted her ex and thinks he crossed her. Lots of great banter and chemistry between Perky and Parker. Will Perky finally see what everyone else sees. Love this story. Great series!

4.0 out of 5 stars Witty & Funny
First book ever read by Julia Kent, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It is witty, with fast paced sharp dialogue and endearing, solid characters. It is firstly a romance between Parker and Persephone (Perky) but also shows the deep bonds of sisterhood. I personally, would have liked to have seen first hand (so to speak), the relationship between Parker and Perky, when they first met and were happy and in love, and then have it blow up in their faces (lol) to add more angst and bitterness. A prologue would have been fabulous to set the scene of this story. I understand that the situation was explained in Perky, however this story commenced five years after “the incident” and to me it felt a bit distant from it. As a result, there were times, especially in the beginning that I felt a bit at sea. Though predominantly a light comedic story, *starfish* it also dealt with a serious issue- bullying on social media platforms, and highlighted the humiliation and pain suffered by those involved. I enjoyed this story and would recommend it.
