- Reviewed in Australia on 19 May 2019Verified PurchaseSamantha is finally doing what she has always wanted to do....play her violin 🎻 and share it with others. The concert begins in Tanglewood and will finish up in New York, but will continue on for 18 months. She’s lonelier than ever without Liam by her side but Josh his brother is her current bodyguard. Liam however, just can’t stay away from her and he eventually shows up with more information about her being in danger.
A few surprises I wasn’t expecting and I look forward to Samantha and Liam’s trilogy conclusion😍
- Reviewed in Australia on 18 September 2020Verified PurchaseFinally some answers but still there seems to be a lot more to unfold. Samantha has the answers but she doesn't know that she does. Will the final book let us find out who is behind the shooting. Will Samantha and Liam fi ally get there HEA.
- Reviewed in Australia on 14 May 2019I was so excited to return to this world with Liam and Samantha. This series is something else. Not only do I love the musical aspects of the story but I love the facts at the start of each chapter. I’m always learning something new! What's also fantastic about this story is how interconnected it is with the other stories written by Skye Warren. I love seeing characters pop up or even mentioned from the other series written in Tanglewood.
While Samantha begins to become a woman and stand up for herself, in many ways, she is still a young, sheltered naïve girl. But I think she is learning and growing more and more each day. Liam is trying to place distance between himself and Samantha but it isn’t working as well as he hoped. He is determined to keep her safe even if that means risking his own life. Josh shows some interesting sides to himself in this story. He riles up his brother in order to get a reaction for him and force his hand. But he is the one who recognises more than anyone the power Samantha has over Liam.
Dark shadows are lurking and no on can be completely trusted. More secrets are revealed from the past and the reader learns more about Liam’s tragic past. I think these words get a heartstring the most: *“That’s what life is about,” he says, his eyes darkening to emerald. “Trying to find a moment of happiness in the face of overwhelming human suffering.”* It’s like a kick in the gut because even though Liam said this, I don’t think he truly believes he deserves happiness and that’s heartbreaking.
While the danger remains present, the chemistry between Samantha and Liam is electric. Liam feels that he shouldn’t want her and yet he is powerless to stop the attraction. Samantha learns that Liam keeps himself in check and yet when they are intimate, that’s when he is the most open with her. The ending had me biting my nails and my heart pounding. I don’t know what the last book has in store but I hope my heart can survive it. I love this series and it has become one of my all time favourite.
- Reviewed in Australia on 17 May 2019What another masterpiece from Skye, she never disappoints with her lyrical writing and passionate storylines. Concerto has been a highly anticipated read for me after Overture Left us mouth gapping and tongues wagging and boy was it worth the wait.
The angst! God the angst! it was killing me - This installment in the North security series has a suspenseful element to it. I was captivated from beginning to end. I love Liam's protectiveness and admire Samantha's determination. Both characters pull you into their world, Skye has the ability to capture you so deeply that you breathe the journey with them. I am not going to give away any more tells the story as I want you read it for yourself, I can guarantee you will lose all concept of time when you read this story as you get caught up in Skye’s forbidden world.
Congratulations Skye on another 5 Star Blushing Book Review
- Reviewed in Australia on 16 May 2019This is Book 2 - you must read book 1 first!!
I was dying for this story after the ending of book one. My battered heart needed answers. And I got plenty in book 2, but I also got plenty more questions. Gah! One thing I know for sure - I FLOVE Liam!! He and Samantha are meant to be - I won’t have it any other way. Loved this story. We got plenty of action, chemistry, betrayal and let’s not forget love. Now I impatiently wait for book 3.
- Reviewed in Australia on 31 December 2019Verified PurchaseI read the first book and it was okay. This book however I was not a fan. The threat didn’t feel like much of a threat and the characters seem really 1 dimensional. I felt like characters were added for the sake of adding them but not one did I connect too. Samantha was annoying and felt like there was no character development. Liam was also frustrating with the hot and cold which I don’t mind but i felt like there was no development. The ending doesn’t make me interested to read the next book and most likely won’t

5.0 out of 5 stars Skye Warren is the pied piper and this series is her flute.
Verified PurchaseWow! This was an extraordinary second book in the North Security trilogy. From the very beginning the angst is like a music string being tightened as it’s being tuned. The angst ratcheting and the passion exploding. Concerto has all the elements of an extraordinary romantic suspense story. Simply gripping. A lot sinful!
Samantha is finally on her own. Preparing for her upcoming concert, she believes she will remain in the shadows. But with the ever present threat to her life and her new role in the concert, she will now be front and centre.
Although uncomfortable with this place, she would love to be front and centre to Liam North. Liam however is filled with demons and regret.
Will he ever see her as more than a way to punish himself for past mistakes?
Thinking this was the second book in a duet (my mistake) I was all set for the secrets to come out and for these two to find their way to each other once and for all. All I have to say is that I am so glad I was wrong and that this is not the end to their story. I need and want so much more from them and for them.
Liam is so sexy with his dominate ways, his charm and possessiveness. We get more insight into his psyche and how he truly feels. I can’t wait to dive even further into his character and past.
I found that Samantha’s character started to bloom in this instalment. Her character grew leaps and bounds both in strength and self confidence.
These two together is nothing short of a conflagration! So HOT! They are so different but fit each other so perfectly. His worldliness compared to her innocence. Not to mention the fact that it seems like he is emotionally stunted while she is emotionally mature.
I was not only compelled by Sam and Liam but the secondary characters as well. The complexities of both Josh and Harry. They both seem so tortured and I would absolutely ADORE getting stories for both of them.
Skye Warren is the pied piper and this series is her flute. Where she writes, I will blindly follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars When the guardian realises he is in love with his ward...
Verified PurchaseAnd then there's Concerto. Well, Skye Warren, you are an evil genius of an emotional rollercoaster taskmaster, and I begrudgingly admit that I loved every single page of this second installment of the story! Begrudgingly, because I am on tenterhooks and need to know now what happened and what will happen and everything in between. I am even more invested than I already was in the journey of a love story that Liam and Samantha are on and I am a hot mess because of it, but in the best possible way.
Samantha strikes out, needing to see if she can make it on her own, even if she feels like there's always still a shadow of him, of her past. She's only eighteen, but she has an old soul, has been an adult since long before then. And, it means that she has to figure out for herself what she wants, what she needs, how to stand on her own two feet.
Liam, well, he does everything he possibly can to stay away, but, there are always things beyond your control, and Liam doesn't deal so well with not being in control. And witnessing him unravel, well, I needed a nice large cold glass of water after that! And, I may have gone back and reread it once or thrice.
This story just becomes even more than it already was, and I know that the third book, well, that it is going to ruin me, likely require tissues, and chocolate, to console me, and I cannot wait.
There is a timeless quality to this story, to the struggles you face when you don't feel worthy, to the strength you can find within yourself when circumstances seem turned against you. That power of hope, well, it is the most beautiful part of this story...so, what are you waiting for? Go and read it, and the rest, so you can find out what that hope feels like, what inspires it, and what it accomplishes!

4.0 out of 5 stars What a masterfully told story
Verified PurchaseI read this book in one sitting I was so engrossed. The edge of your seat writing is why I enjoy Skye Warren so much.
Samantha has finally left the cacoon of Liam's protection to go on her first world tour, yet Liam is never far from her, always staying in the shadows. Liam knows Samantha is in danger, he just isn't sure why.
I loved the surrounding characters as the practice begins for the tour and how the author pulled you into the world of performance and the violin especially.
The push and pull between Liam and Samantha continues and they are on the burning edge of a world about to explode. I can't wait for the exciting conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars His Dark and Her Light
Verified PurchaseOverall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Do you ever read a romance book or books and wonder if there is something seriously wrong with you because you love the darkness and angst of said book? I oftentimes think there is something a little bit broken in me because the angstier (yes, not really a word…but so), the happier I become. I think it has to do with the precision by which a writer must write to achieve that level of feeling in his/her reader. I mean this with no disrespect, but I think it is harder to write angst than rom-com. That’s just my belief, and I won’t judge anyone who will disagree with me.
Concerto by Skye Warren is the type of book (like her other stories from Tanglewood) that delivers on the soul-wrecking, delicious angst that readers like me pine for. This is the second book in the North Security series, and it continues to follow Samantha and Liam. In Overture, Samantha and Liam embrace their forbidden feelings and consummate their lust for each other. At the end of Overture, Samantha has left to go on tour, but, more importantly, to find her independence from Liam, after he has pushed her away for her own protection. In Concerto, Samantha is recently arrived in Tanglewood for the start of the concert tour, and she is adapting to life independent from Liam. However, every day is a struggle without him. Shortly after arriving in town, there is a threat to her security, and Liam arrives to protect her from the threat. As they struggle with their lust and feelings for each other, each pushes the other away at various times, creating so much delicious tension that the reader is compelled to read to see its resolution.
This you will not find wholly in Concerto, however. If you are looking for the end-of-book HEA in Concerto, it isn’t here. Instead, we are left with a huge, life changing cliffhanger for Samantha and indirectly for Liam. I believe the next book, Sonata, ends the trilogy, and hopefully, it leads us to a HEA for Liam and Samantha because these two are, by definition, tortured.
Obviously, Samantha’s torture cannot compare to the tortured mind of Liam. In fact, there are so many times when I want to yell at the man to get a therapist. Call me insensitive, but the depths of his guilt create the thick, high wall between him and Samantha. While she is the junior to his senior, she surprisingly carries an emotional depth that will save Liam from his “wells.” However, as the reader, we have to endure the depth of these wells to get tidbits of connection and love.
What I love about this book so much, besides the angsty moments between Liam and Samantha, is Warren’s brilliance in telling Liam and Samantha’s stories. For one, the titles of these books are intentional to understanding the general premise of each book. A concerto in musical terms often “highlights a solo instrument against the background of a full orchestra. […] In a concerto, a piano, violin, flute, or other instrument plays solo parts that are backed up or highlighted by an orchestra” (vocabulary.com). This obviously connects with Samantha’s entree into the independent life. While she is seemingly in “solo,” she is surrounded by a group (Liam, Josh, Bethany, Harry, her father, etc.) who add different levels of support (or hindrance) to her solo life. Her life becomes the actual concerto.
Additionally, the image of wells in the story illustrates how Liam’s past still informs his present (and possibly his future). He can never escape the literal well from his youth because he believes, in loving Samantha, she becomes his figurative well. While he seemingly loves her, the well continues to dirty him, and by extension, he will sully Samantha. So…he engages in a fraught relationship with her, one where he at once needs her and repels her. This image is powerful and completely realized in Liam’s mind in association with Samantha. So so brilliant on Warren’s part.
Finally, Warren’s way in creating this story (along with her other books) shows her ability to keep her reader guessing. There is a BIG revelation near the end of this story that breaks open possibility for the next book. I would love to say more, but I don’t want to spoil it. The genius behind this revelation turns this book from a forbidden, darker romance into one that seems more romantic suspense. There is more to Samantha than originally thought, and I imagine it will be an explosive realization in Sonata.
There is something so delicious about an author like Skye Warren when you realize her ability to craft tortured souls into a romance that keeps you guessing is nothing short of genius. She holds the reader accountable to supposition about a story by offering them twists and turns at every page. As her reader, you can never be quite sure that all is as it seems, and her newest book, Concerto, is no different in this sense. When I ended this book, I was left hungry for more of Liam and Samantha’s story. In fact, I flew through the pages of this book. Thankfully, we get it in Sonata, but if I’ve read enough Warren books to know, there will be HEA, but it will still have a bit of a melancholy to it, angst in all of its realized glory.
I simply cannot wait for the final book in this trilogy.
