We met Mac Whittaker in book 1, he's an academy buddy of Eli and Truck. He's just resigned from the Navy and left a job he loves at the Pentagon, to pursue a political dream: To make the world and his country a better place. It's two years ago that he first met tall, model-worthy Georgie at Ava's beach house. Being back there for a summer visit, he meets her there again. After a searing kiss that has sent his heart and mind into a tailspin, Georgie discloses some things about her family that make Mac take a step back. He is devastated; if he wants to make a difference in DC, he needs to be sqeaky-clean. Cutting short his visit, he heads off on his boat, a journey that will eventually take him home to his apartment in DC that he shares with his sister Dani. Two weeks later, he arrives home and Dani asks him to meet their newest housemate. It's Goergie! Georgie knows the reasons for Mac's withdrawl. It hurts a bit, but better now than if they get closer. It's hard to tell your heart that, though. Through all of the trials and challenges they face, the take away message is "choose love."

    Mac, an intelligent former Navy man destined to go to Capitol Hill. Following his families footsteps in his own way. He met the enigmatic Georgie through his best friend. He is more and more intrigued every time he meets her though their meetings are all to brief.
    “...joined in a way that felt like opposite ends of magnets finally clicking together. Parallel forces drawn, as if by physics itself.”
    Mac made a decision, he had to run hard and fast. Georgie had a shady past that would not fit with his future.
    “It killed me a little, knowing that I may very well look back on this moment someday and be filled with regret for what could have been.
    But it wasn’t enough to make me stay.”
    Georgie was just as determined to block her real, raw, true feelings as Mac.
    “My heart banged at her words. ‘Have you met me? No. I don’t intend to be anyone’s wife. Let alone some politician’s.”
    I could fill this review with quotes, perfectly selected beautifully crafted words that steal your heart, LJ Evans is a master craftsmen, a wordsmith. This is a s l o w burn. While it is part of a series Georgie and Mac’s story can be read as a stand-alone novel with hea, it has all the feels and deeply loving characters.

    Georgie always put other people first, putting their happiness before hers. She dropped out of law school to take over her grandmother's lease for her hair salon when she died and then sold the business to return to school. Her family is dysfunctional, her father in jail for a his involvement in a ponzi scheme, her mother married to an arms dealer and her half brother a drug dealer. Mc is the exact opposite, his family are pillars in the community and active in the may have. They go their separate way b are able to find their way back to each other.

    What I love about this author, is her ability to take a hero and a heroine and strip them down and put them back together in a way, that makes you a better person.

    You feel inspired by the characters and the choices that they make, in order to make them grow.

    Georgie Astrella, has given up everything that has ever made her happy, just to help others fulfill their dreams.
    She gave up law school, when her grandma died to finish out her lease, as a hairdresser.
    Now she has sold the business and plans on going back to school to fulfill her dreams.
    Her father is in jail for a ponzi scheme, and her mom is Russian and remarried a business man who is involved in arms dealing. Her half-brother is into drug dealing.

    Macauculey (Mac) Whittaker, is a former Navy intelligent officer, who has been working towards getting into politics.
    His granddad, father and sister, are all involved with it, and he desires to make the world a better place.

    Mac and Georgie, have met a few times through mutual friends.
    They are drawn to each other, but due to his political ambitions and her families past, not to mention their best friends, being together just doesn't seem like a good idea.

    Mac, just can't let her families screw up, prevent them from happiness.
    He tells Georgie, "I can't let you go without trying to do everything to make you mine."

    Problem is, Georgie, will never put her happiness first.
    When a mission goes bad, Mac, must figure out what went wrong.

    As their paths drift apart for a short time, they grow in ways, that make them better paired for each other.

    A brilliant story of Love hope and Happiness.

    This is another great story of Mac and a Georgie. Mac wants to be a politician but can’t be associated with a person who’s family is known for crimes. Georgie has a father in jail and a stepfather who is wanted for illegal activities. Mac comes from a military and political family. However, the heart wants what it wants. I love the family aspect of this story. Mac’s family is tight and they can tease like no other family. It was a pleasure to read.

    LJ Evans is quickly becoming one of my favorite romance writers. This is the sixth book I’ve read by her and she writes truly beautiful stories. Mac and Georgie’s was no different. I saw their spark when they first met it Book 1 so I knew their story would be full of passion. The attraction is as intense as ever when their paths cross at Ava and Eli’s house almost two yrs later. But they both have their reasons for not giving into it, her family’s history and his political dreams are not the best fit. However, when they find themselves in close quarters again back in DC eventually desire wins. Of course that’s not the end of the story. There is heartbreak and tears to follow (but never any over the top drama). I loved all the supporting characters as well, especially Mac’s family. I can’t wait for Truck and Jersey’s story next.

Neither planned on each other - but now that they're thrown together, can they alter their plans to make a relationship between then work?? you'll have to read it to find out!! Mac & Georgie's love story caused me tears - both of laughter and heartbreak, as well as kept me turning the pages to find out what came next for these two. I also loved their friends and family members - most of them, anyway!! This HEA is well deserved, and I'm so excited to read about the rest of the crew!!
