Devils & Rye: A Dark Billionaire Romance (Spiked Roses Billionaire's Club Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 375 ratings

Forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest.
It had been years since I had seen her.
Years since I last saw those eyes with pure, raw innocence.
So much time had passed since I lusted after what I knew I should resist.

But she was so right.
And I was so wrong.

To claim her as mine was breaking the rules. Boundaries should not be broken. But temptation weakens my resolve.
With the pull of my dark desires…
I know that I can’t hide from my sinful thoughts—and actions—forever.

*Devils & Rye is a dark billionaire romance. If you don’t like a splash of shock, a dash of taboo, and a heavy dose of dirty, then don’t take a sip of this TOP SHELF cocktail.

Alta Hensley is a USA Today bestselling author of dark romance where the villain always gets the happily ever after.

Twisted, clever, and occasionally unhinged, her books deliver morally gray anti-heroes, sharp-tongued heroines, and happily ever afters that taste even sweeter after a little ruin. With a signature blend of grit, wit, and heat, Alta’s stories prove one thing: villains deserve love too.

Alta lives on the foggy coast of Oregon with her husband, two daughters, and a pair of dogs who think they’re in charge. When she’s not writing redemption for the irredeemable, she’s walking the coastline or sipping craft beer in eccentric little bars that feel like they belong in her books.

Alta Hensley has again written a gripping instalment to top shelf series. It is one of those books that you need to clear your colander for because you “have to read one more chapter”

Just when you think you've found a favourite in this series Alta throws another hottie at you to mess with your head.

Alec has left his secret cloaked past behind him and moved on to better things, like being an owner of Spiked Roses, or so he thought. Seeing his old friend & business partners young daughter, Makayla, walk into his club looking for a job can't be a good sign. Upon receiving a letter from his old friend Alec learns exactly why she's landed in his life and that s**t is about to hit the fan.

With his past come back to haunt him and temptation landing in his lap Alec is faced with some tough choices. He is tasked with keeping Makayla safe, but he can't promise she'll be safe from him. She's everything he never knew he wanted, she's also off limits but in the end that's not enough to stop him.

Will they make it through the chaos that's coming their way? Jump into this hot, fast paced, dark taboo story and find out for yourself.

Alta Hensley has written another amazing work of art. Devils & Rye is a dark, sexy slightly taboo story full of steam, angst, suspense, secrets, mystery and a dark romance. Makayla and Alec have intense off the charts chemistry that left my kindle steaming and me wanting more. I can't wait to read the next book by this author. I love this series. Each story is incredibly original and the only things in common are that the men are owners of Spiked Roses, a club in New Orleans. Each story is dark and will not be to everyones tastes. This was the story for Alec and Makayla & of coarse, completely original. While I enjoyed this book, it wasn't my favourite of the series & it just didnt fill me with the compulsion to keep reading. There seemed to be plenty of build up of suspense but when it got there, I felt a little disappointed. Each book in this series is standalone, so if you're worried about this book, consider any of the others.

5.0 out of 5 stars HERE’S TO THE HOUSE, TO THE LAKE, TO OLD MEMORIES AND CREATING NEW ONES
Reviewed in the United States on 27 March 2018

Once again, Ms. Alta Hensley has penned a story that is spine-tingling, on-the-edge-of-your-seat, I can’t look, but I can’t look away page-turning tale. There is a unique cast of characters, some you will hate, some will have you hot and bothered, and some, you just aren’t sure about. The characters and situations are explicated detailed. The story is not for those who want wine and roses with a sweet storyline. The story is raw, edgy, dirty, painful, intense, explicit and erotic. If you don’t like a splash of shock, a dash of taboo, and a heavy dose of sex, then don’t take a sip of this TOP SHELF cocktail.

Alec is one of the owners of Spiked Roses, he has done well for himself, still single, but doing well financially. He is shocked when he hears from his former business partner and longtime friend, Rhett Knox. In a letter, he asks Alec to please take Makayla to their lake house and keep her safe. Makayla, twenty-years-old, had just come to New Orleans and was to start working as a hostess in the club. The letter brings up old demons, ones that Alec walked away from but once again; they have made their presences known and not only will it affect Rhett, but Makayla and her innocence.
It all revolves around the long-standing Iron Colt Brotherhood, which has been around since before the civil war, and most of the well-to-do families were born into it and passed down from generation to generation in families like it was for Rhett and Alec.

“I know that being part of the society can help make every man’s—who is willing to pay the price—dreams to come true. The power of the men involved, the connections, the favors that can be granted. Politicians have gained their positions because of the brotherhood. Investments that have formed multi-billion dollar companies from nothing originated out of the brotherhood. If a member asks for a ‘favor,’ then the favor is granted by the other members of the brotherhood. But no favor comes for free. For every favor you ask, you have to put your name on a rock that goes into a large urn.”

“That every a year, rocks are pulled, and the names on those rocks have to participate in a ritual of some kind. A ritual that could be deadly. “

Rhett will leave his most precious item, his sheltered daughter, Makayla, in the care of Alec because he refuses to allow her to be part of the ritual when her name is drawn and instead, forfeits himself. But will that be good enough?

Alec and Makayla at the lake house are attracted to each other, and he is fighting his desires to claim her. For Makayla, she wants Alec, and their desires will take over. Alec is old enough to be her father, he and her father were business partners, and he should resist, yet she wants this too. What they have at the lake house is sweet, but that is going to change because of her impetuous decision, the very one these men are trying to protect her from.

Makayla can’t let her father’s life remain in jeopardy, and she will take off to try and rescue him, and the story will take on a matter of life and death danger. Now it isn’t only Rhett, but Makayla who will be part of the ritualistic games. Will Alec be able to save them, and what will be the cost of returning to the Brotherhood? Six women are going to be sold off to the highest bidder as slaves, and their Masters are allowed to do whatever they chose, for the women, they will endure a living hell of humiliation and pain.

“There was no Makayla and Alec. There was only Master and slave. It decimated all that was good left inside. All that was left was evil as the demons watching on. All that was left was rape, conquer, demand, hate, and hope. A dark, awful, alluring hope that if we played along, maybe—just maybe we could save my father and walk out of her alive.”

The rituals of the Brotherhood are all a game to many of them, and that is why Alec walked away. The treatment of the six women and six men, one of whom will die, all for greed and power. Will Alec, Rhett, and Makayla survive the ritual and walk away? If they do, what will become of them when this ordeal is over?

“To have to sit at a table and wish for another man’s death turned me into the living and breathing Devil—evil, sinister, and a pure monster.”

I really have loved the Top Shelf Series and this is book 4 Devils & Rye. This is kind of a taboo romance. Alec is not Makayla’s biological Uncle but, she has known him as Uncle Alec for a long time. Also, Alec is her father’s best friend meaning that Alec is old enough to be her father.

I have really enjoyed the Top Shelf Series and I am hoping that this isn’t the last one in the series that Alta Hensley will come up with some more. Surely there’s more “top shelf” alcohol that can be written about.

Devils & Rye is the 4th book in the Top Shelf Series. Alta Hensley did have me on the edge of my seat worried that something would happen that I didn’t want to happen. I know that sounds so vague but, I don’t want to spoil the story for others. You will just have to read this book if you want to know more.

I was left wanting more from this story. I wish that this book ended a little differently. I felt the story just dropped from the ending. Other than that I loved the story and like I said earlier I am really hoping there will be more in this series. Or at least a spin off with now mixed drinks.

I give Devils & Rye 4 stars. Even if there are no more books in this series Alta Hensley is now an author that I will be following.

I'm enjoying the Spiked Roses Billionaire's Club series. Alta Hensley's dark romances are a spicy treat! This series is full of twisty, dark instalove, with morally grey heroes! In book 4 Alec is asked to protect and look after his long time friend and former business partner's daughter. Mikayla who is beautiful, young and innocent walks into 'Uncle' Alec's club and is quickly whisked away when danger comes knocking! On to the next one!

This the first book I read in the series and it will probably be my last, I made it about 45% through the book and realized this story just wasn't doing it for me. Sometimes it can be intriguing or even sexy to read about the taboo or forbidden this book (even though it's supposed to be about those things) seemed to lean more towards the main male character being creepy and the female naive and ignorant than sheltered and innocent. There also wasn't enough relationship build up between the creepy fake uncle that has random flashbacks of his niece in name only when she's young enough to be wearing pigtails and said fake niece. Needless to say, this one wasn't for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alta does it again with this latest installment.

Alta has done it again. She has written another action packed thrill ride complete with super steamy sex scenes. She continues with the next installment and picks up right where the last one left off. Hot and steamy older gentleman taking care of a young hot woman. It explodes into hot steamy sex and doesn’t let you go until the very end. If only the women in her stories would just listen to her man, there wouldn’t be as much drama. But it makes for such intense reading that I can’t put it down. Great job Alta.
