4.2 out of 5 stars 478 ratings

Like Father Like Son
I said good-bye to my son. But he had one final request—a letter I’ll never forget.

Dear Dad,
If you're reading this, it means I'm gone. I had one dream, growing old with Holland. Death won't stop me from providing for my wife. And because you're the best man I know, what I'm about to ask—my last request—I know you'll do. Please take care of Holland. Take her back to California with you. It's a lot—I know. But, I’m placing my most precious possession in your hands.
Love,
Scott

But the thoughts swirling through my mind are certainly not what my late son had in mind. How do I resist this woman in front of me?
After all, you can't choose love, it chooses you.

I loved this. This book teaches you that life can throw some mighty curve balls your way, changing the path you thought you’d be on. It teaches you about resilience, about strength, about new beginnings and most of all that the heart wants what the heart wants.

At times you will feel the heat, others you will feel your face prickle and heat up from the tears that will inevitably flow, and sometimes you will even feel frustration! This book has it all, and has a way of hitting close to home if you’ve been through losing someone close to you.

Once you reach the end of book one, you will be anxiously clicking away until you purchase book two (Different As Night And Day) to find out what happens!

I was totally not expecting a cliffhanger! I didn’t do a whole lot of research before I started this Leigh Lennon work of fiction. The forbidden-ness alert in the title and synopsis were calling me so hard that I missed the part of the title that says “father/son duet Book 1.” But even that doesn’t always mean there’s a cliffie but let me assure you there’s definitely one.

I enjoyed this story (so far) I liked the characters, I’m not really a fan of duel point of view and sometimes Maguire’s “speak” gets my goat, but really I think it’s probably necessary to set up the personalities. I love the idea for the book and the timing and delivery of the circumstances involved, although I’m not convinced that I personally needed this twist/cliffhanger at the end I’d have been pretty darn happy with a classic HEA.

    Still a good read though!

This is a first time read of Leigh for me and honestly I found the story slow. I love a good older man younger woman story and have read many and this one looked great. Really taboo and I liked the idea as it seemed very different to the same old same old and yes it was very different but the storyline just dragged so much with fill that wasn’t necessary to the story development. We don’t really see anything happen until the final chapter and by this time a full year has passed. They finally talk about their feelings and wanting to be together begin getting busy and the damn thing ends on a cliff hanger. I will read part two as I do feel invested in Maquire and Holland but I will return Like Father Like Son to kindle unlimited.

I think this book needs to come with a warning! “Reader beware!! You will cry within 5 mins of reading it!!!” Holy heck!!! I was not prepared! I liked this book so much I instantly started book 2! I was hooked! While it is a Taboo subject, it didn’t “feel” like it was. Enjoy!

I really did enjoy reading this delightful slow burn story. It was written well, the characters were fun to read and I really felt connected to them instantly which helped me get into this story of forbidden love.

A father buries his son, and a wife loses her husband, connected by grief and the love for the same man this is Maguire and Hollands story about their shared devastation and how they deal with it. First of all, I loved Maguire, he is a strong, proud man who in the throws of grief melted my heart and I just found myself connecting to his easy-going powerful nature. He's consumed with guilt though and the poor man's pain shone through in this story.

Holland I found much more difficult to like. Sometimes I would feel sorry for her and what life had dealt her and other times I wanted to smack her around the head and tell her to watch that sarky mouth of hers and to stop acting like a spoilt brat. Everyone came together to help this young lady when her life was falling apart, but at times I felt she didn't appreciate just how lucky she was. All Maguire wanted to do was abide by his son's last wishes to look after Holland and make sure she is okay; but she sure doesn't make it easy on the people around her, especially Maguire.

This is the first book in the duet by this author and seeing as this one ended on one hell of a cliff hanger I can't wait to get my hands on book two. Well worth the read!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars unexpected love story

This is the first book I’ve read from Leigh Lennon and I was completely intrigued about this book from reading the blurb. Going into the book I had an idea in my mind where this was going, but this story was nothing like I expected it to be.
Holland just lost her husband. She is losing her home. Her family is far from supportive. Her deceased husband knew this, so he asked the only man he would trust with the one person he loved more than anything, his father. Maguire didn’t get a ton of time with his son, but he cherished his time with him and would do anything for him, including honoring his son’s dying wish.
This is a SLOW SLOW SLOW burn. There is no denying the chemistry between Holland and Maguire, but they both know it isn’t right. She just recently lost her husband and him his son. They learn on each other for love and support and to just cope with the changes and the loss.
This story was emotional rollercoaster full of love, loss and getting a second chance.
Like Father Like Son is the first book in a duet and it ends on a MASSIVE CLIFFHANGER! I need book two ASAP!!!!!!
