Everything I ever thought I knew about him, everything I thought he wanted was a lie.
Imagine one day calling your boyfriend, the love of your life, the man you planned to marry and have kids with only to find out his phone has been disconnected, and he’s joined the military.
How could someone love you if they ran away?
That was four years ago when he shattered my heart into a million pieces and today I find that same man on my doorstep… pleading for forgiveness and my hand in marriage.
Our relationship isn’t what I dreamt it would be. The only way to see it through is to keep the past pain buried and protecting my heart. It shouldn’t be hard when he’s half a world away, but when tragedy strikes causing Holden to come back to me half the man he was when he left...
I must decide if he’s worth giving a second chance. With a past as checkered as ours, I’m not sure love will ever exist again.
Unsteady in Love is a stand-alone in the Fairlane series. The series has crossover characters from each novel. It is not required to read the books in order but it is recommended to enhance the reading experience.
Fairlane Series: 1. Hollywood Redemption (Luke and Alex) 2. Hollywood Fairytale (Luke and Alex) 3. Unsteady in Love (Holden and Prue) 4. Kiss Me (Jax and Gabi) - Coming November 2019
Harlow Layne is known for her contemporary romance style of beautiful slow-burn, sweet, sexy and swoon-worthy alphas, and fast pace, super-steamy romance in her Love is Blind series.
Unsteady in Love is not my first book by Harlow Layne, but I will say that it is absolutely one of my favorites! THIS BOOK. Oh my god!!! THIS BOOK RIGHT HERE!!
It has me in a MESS OF EMOTIONS in the best way possible. I cried tears of sadness. I felt pain, longing, and my heart sink so deep into my stomach in pieces.
*****
“Falling to my knees, my entire world crumbled around me. Holden was gone. And I was alone.”
Prue and Holden went through the cruelest of blows from life, from those who are support to love and support them. And yet, they were torn apart, having to make choices they didn’t want to. Forced to live apart rather than together. Forced to love without one another.
““The man who broke my heart,” I cried.”
I felt both Prue and Holden’s pain, their struggles. Especially Prue, in which you learn didn’t have it at all easy after Holden walked out of her life.
It wrecked me. It took my heart and shattered it into tiny pieces, leaving me with nothing!
“Her heart wasn’t the only one that broke when I left...”
I wanted to hate Holden for what he had done. I want to curse him and be angry for breaking Prue’s heart, but the minute you learn the truth, you just can’t.
The way he held onto Prue and their love, it really struck a cord for me. He did anything he could, in all the ways he could, to prove to Prue that his love was and is still very much present, strong, and true.
“You’re the only bright light in my otherwise dark world.”
The letters they sent to one another got me on the whole other level. I was rejoicing in their connect, even if it was just through emails.
And then, in those tender moments, my heart started to heal and be put back together.
“After a few letters and one video chat, Holden had worked himself back into my heart.”
*****
This is why second chance romances are one of my favorite things to read. The emotional push and pull you go through with the characters are so worth it.
I cried tears of happiness. I continued to root hard for our hero and heroin, even when the going got tough.
“How many times would he try to push me away before he realized I was never letting him go?”
I admired Prue and her loyalty, her willingness, her determination, and the fierce love she had for Holden. It didn’t go unnoticed.
I loved Holden and his heart of gold. His loyalty, his persistence, and how Prue was his one and only true love.
Unsteady in Love is one of those books that make you believe in second chances! It’s one of those books that teach you to love so fiercely and never let go even when it seems like the world is against you.
Harlow Layne seems to amazes me over and over again with the way she tells a story, how much emotions she evokes, and leaving you wanting MORE! She knows how tell such a beautiful story with an emotional rawness that is hard to find elsewhere.
I loved Prue and Holden so much! Their story, their struggles as individuals and as a couple, their love has truly touched my heart and my tears come out of my eyes!
If you’re into heartfelt second chance, military romances, pre-order this book! Once it drops into your Kindle, it will not disappoint you! ♥️
“My wounded soldier. The love of my life.”

OMG I love loved this book. I had so many emotions while I was reading it. I laughed and I cried and I mean I cried because it hit home. I had a nephew who did three tours in Afghanistan and I was so worried about him. I prayed everyday for his troop and him and I prayed that they all came home safe and sound. So while I was reading so many memories came back to me and I cried like a baby.
Prue is doing everything she can to take care of her father and work but she has to quit her job to take care of her dying father. So when her father dies it feels like she has died to because she has no one but her friend. See she lost the love of her life after graduation. They had plans to be together and when it came time to be together Holden was no where to be found. He left town and left Prue with no way to reach him.
Holden has a great life or so he thought. His parents have other plans for him and he is not having it so he leaves his family and Prue behind to move on because he refuses to do what his parents want.
Years later Holden returns to get Prue back only to find that she moved away and hires a Private Eye to find her and when he does he goes to her but his return is bad timing because Prue is burying her father. But Holden is determined to tell her the truth and win her back. But will Prue listen to him and accept his apology and the truth? Will Holden be able to convince Prue to be his?
This hero was such an a*sehole! People who make decisions about other's lives because they only see their way as the right way are the worst. And after basically shutting out this dumb doormat heroine for the 3rd time, he demanded she 'leave him his pride.'
She ought to have told him she hoped his 'pride' would keep him warm at night and not looked back on her way out the door. A strong woman who was secure with herself would have done. Oh, but wait - this h wasn't any of that. She was a pushover with no direction.
Incidentally, here are some things that need to go away from the romancelandia list of sex terms - Spasming lady parts. Clenching cores. (It sounds stupid in addition to the use of the word in that context being incorrect.) Drenched panties. Slick folds. Puckering, pebbling or hard nipples - which is NOT proof of arousal. Rock-hard anything. The narrating POV's in-depth description of them pleasuring themselves. Juices. Tasting said juices on hero's lips. Sorry, but yuck. No. It is no wonder I skim sex scenes nowadays. You can only read the same, tired shit so many times.
Another weak heroine, ergo another one and done writer. Wouldn't recommend.
This is my first time reading a Harlow Layne book and let me tell you she didn’t disappoint. There’s so much awesomeness to this book, the high school romance, Holden leaving and going into the Marines, to him coming back to her, and marrying her to “help her out financially”, the sweet emails while he was overseas, to him pushing Prue away when he was battling loosing his leg in the hospital, and them getting back together in the end and having two kids. I urge everyone to read this book. It will definitely be a second read for me. I give it 5 panty droppings.

The sweetness just continues to grow in the Fairlane series with Prue and Holden’s story! Unsteady in Love reminded me just why I fell in love with this series. There’s just so much sweetness that goes hand in hand with the deeper emotion in these books. A second chance, wounded hearts and overcoming some of the cruelest blows life can offer would have you thinking this book would be nothing but an ugly cry. But while I did shed some tears the pure sweetness of the love between these two overshadowed almost everything. Prue and Holden are one of those couples that are just destined to be. Even with their past the love between them is just so big you feel it immediately. You can literally FEEL how much they belong together. There are so many hurdles they have to overcome but even with all they go through the power of the love between these two pours from the pages.
I was hooked the minute I read the prologue! Talk about your stomach dropping and wondering what the heck is going on! After I got over that, I just couldn't put the book down. Excellent character development as well as storyline development. I continue to love Harlow's stories!
This is the third book in this awesome series and is Holden and Prue’s story. These two were high school sweethearts, until life got in the way. This is another well written story which is emotional, and with twists and love. I was captivated throughout this addictive page turner, and I cannot wait to read more from this gifted author.
This is a story about two people that loved each other but family interfered with their relationship. It's an heart warming story of sacrifice, love and resilience .
Five beautiful angsty stars! Unsteady in Love is a heartfelt, love story that sucks you in and doesn't let go. I love how this author's stories always have well-developed characters that face real-world problems that are so relatable. You must read this book! I can't wait to see what this author has in store for us next.
Unsteady In Love by Harlow Layne is a contemporary military romance with a second chance love story filled with heartfelt moments and heartbreak. Told in dual POV, this book broke me down! My daughter’s father was in the military so I try not to read many military stories but I love Harlow and I knew no matter what she wrote she would do it with class and it would be something I wanted to read! Unsteady In Love is part of the Fairlane Series but it is a standalone.
Unsteady In Love is Pruden and Holden’s story.
Prue just lost her father, walking out of the church on the day of her fathers funeral she comes face to face with the man who broke her heart that she never expected to see again.
Holden left town without a trace 3 1/2 years ago, the day after graduation. Prue and Holden had big plans and even bigger dreams so his leaving came as a horrible blow to Prue and she was left completely heartbroken.
But low and behold, Holden is standing next to her car when she comes out of the church and wants a chance to explain himself. Prue has way more problems going on right now than dealing with the man from the past who broke her heart so she blows him off.
BUT Holden’s not giving up that easy.
Slowly but surely Holden talks her into hearing him out, Prue could never tell him no anyway. After some revelations about what actually happened all those years ago, Prue agrees to communicate with Holden when his leave is over and he goes back to the war but she has no intention of letting him back into her heart again.
But things don’t always work out as planned…
This is one of those stories that you will be praying so hard that these two figures it out, even though Holden doesn’t start off as such a great guy, you’ll grow to love him anyways and Prue, gahh I love Prue. She’s the perfect mix of sweet and sassy. Unsteady In Love is the definition of a story about true love and two people who are meant to be together against all the odds.
This book is a rollercoaster of ups and downs for these two. Just when life seems to be improving for both of them.. tragedy strikes.
I swear I’m always surprised with how much emotion Harlow makes me feel in these books every single time but this one… this one ruined me in the best possible way!
Sweet, heartfelt, and heartwrenching, this one is going to give you ALL the feels!
Unsteady Love is the sweet but slow burn second chance at love story of High School sweethearts Holden & Prue. See, Prue thought they would be together forever, but on graduation night, Holden ghosted her, even going as far as disconnecting his number, so she had no idea what was going on, as she never got any closure from him, it was pure radio silence from him. Almost 4 years later, after losing her beloved father, and having no job with all the bills way past due, Prue didn't think life could get any worse, and yet, it did. See, Holden decided to pop back up in her life, but he was a little too late, as Prue had nothing to say to him. However, he was determined to make her listen to him. Was there anything he could say that would make a difference in her feelings towards him?! Man oh man, Harlow Layne definitely knows how to reach deep down inside of me, and grab my emotions to give them a good squeeze, so I found my eyes trying to go rogue & leak more than once. A lot of this story was by letters, which is quite original, as these two got to know each other all over again, because Prue's resentment was deep, which I couldn't blame her for, as I felt the same way for her, but I'm more petty, and probably wouldn't have ever forgiven him even if I hadn't gotten over him. Just as I believe there's some smooth sailing going, some big twists come out to punch the f-bombs right out of me, which have some BIG fallout in the story, so if you want to see how it all pans out, you gotta one click this emotional story of redemption! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Unsteady in Love by Harlow Layne is the third book in her Fairlane series and could technically be read on its own, however, I loved the first two books in the series and do recommend reading them. This time we get the second chance romance of Holden and Prue. This one was more emotional and angsty then the first books in the series but captured my heart just as much. I cried and cheered for this couple hard!
Holden and Prue loved each other in all the best way possible. Then Holden did the impossible and broke her heart. Left her shattered. But now he is back and wants her back in his life. But she can never trust him again, right? But he was determined to help her and love her, he just needed her to forgive him.
I have to stay I lost myself in this story, even as my heart hurt. And it hurt, quite a bit. Their journey was not easy, but sometimes you have to work hard to be able to move forward. Unsteady in Love by Harlow Layne is a beautiful and emotional second chance romance. Title: Hollywood Fairytale
This was such a great book and I never wanted to put it down!
I completely understood why Prue was hesitant to get involved with Holden again after what happened but when you learn why he did what he did you begin to soften towards him. I hated that Holden was forced to do what he did but ultimately he did to protect Prue not knowing how her own life was going to turn for the worse.
I liked that Holden wanted to do something for Prue before he left in order to make sure that she was going to be ok while he was gone. He was still completely in love with her so it made perfect sense but it was fast. I loved that she was able to get a house and it sounds like it is perfect and one I would want for myself!
Then the book turns and things get scary. First Prue and then Holden and things are not easy. My heart really broke for Holden as everything changed for him and he no longer felt like the man he was. I can’t imagine how many veterans go through this type of thing and it isn’t easy and I liked how real and authentic the author made everything. My heart was broken for Prue and I loved the talk she had with Alex that made her re-evaluate the way she had been going about everything.
I loved the ending and how they both came out so much stronger because of everything!!
I am looking forward to the next book in the series!
This book wrecked me in the best way possible. I felt Prue’s pain as a teenager, I felt her pain as an adult and all the heartache she has been dealt in her short lifetime. When it came to Holden I wanted to hate him for what he did to Prue after graduation but once he was able to explain what had happened it was so hard to dislike him and the more he did and the harder he tried to make things better I was swooning over the man!
I absolutely loved their beautiful second chance. It wasn’t always easy and they had to work through what had happened in the past. I loved watching them get to know each other again and for Prue to slowly begin to forgive Holden through their e-mail exchanges. The worry and the fears and all the emotions, it was so easy to feel those along with Prue and my heart literally broke for her and for Holden.
Prue and Holden’s story is HANDS DOWN one of my FAVORITE second chance romances. This story was filed with so many emotions and it felt so real and it was so easy to connect with the characters and all their pain and happiness.
This is the third book in the Fairlane series, but it can be read as a complete standalone.

Prue doesn't know how to deal with her life right now. Walking out of the church, on the day of her father's funeral, she walks to her car and sees the man who broke her heart. More than three years have passed since the day Holden ghosted Prue and she never wanted to see him again. She drives away from him hoping that he will give up and go away. When he begs for forgiveness, she wants to refuse. When he sees the financial trouble she is in, he insists on getting married before he has to leave. How can they possibly end up happily ever after when Prue has no intention of letting him into her heart again?
This was so darn good, I couldn't put it down. Prue has every right to be stone cold angry and hurt at Holden. He admits full responsibility for his actions and genuinely begs her forgiveness, but time is short. He has to leave and their communication via letters, emails and Facetime give Prue time to work through her anger and I loved it! Seeing these two get back what should have never been destroyed was sweet. That is why second chance romances are one of my favorite trope. I do hope we get more Fairlane books in the future. 4.5 stars for Unsteady in Love!
Unsteady in Love is the third book in the Fairlane Series and by far my favorite; the story of Holden and Prue sucks you in as these two immediately likable characters battle against the mistakes and heartache of their past to come back together. I had a hard time putting this story down as the various turns Holden and Prue’s relationships and personal journeys take pull you in quickly; as this young woman and deployed solider work to rekindle the love they once had while living on different sides of the world. The correspondence they share and battles they face independently and as a couple through out are relatable and tug your heart strings.
I really liked how this story plays into the timeline of the previous books in the series giving us glimpses of some of our favorite Fairlane Citizens and where they are now. I’ll definitely keep this author on my watchlist for future releases.
This is the third book in the series but has different characters and therefore can be read as a stand-alone although the main characters from the first two books are in this one as well. Prue had her life all planned out and after graduation she was going to leave town with her boyfriend, Holden Montgomery, and they would begin their life together but when she goes to see him he is gone and her heart is shattered. Now 3 ½ years later Prue has just buried her father and Holden has come back begging for a chance to explain the past and why he disappeared on her. Unfortunately Prue is worried about letting Holden back in and getting her heart broken again. Can Holden convince Prue to give him a chance before he heads back overseas with another mission for the Marines? My heart was broken for Prue and I loved the talk she had with Alex that made her re-evaluate the way she had been going about everything. I loved the ending and how they both came out so much stronger because of everything!! I am looking forward to the next book in the series! By Rebecca
They were childhood sweethearts and then he disappeared. They had these plans and then he was gone. 4 years later on the day she buried her father he reappears. He wants to talk and explain. Pru isn't interested, she is in shock and angry. He wont leave her alone without explaining. She let's him, then he hits her with a proposal she didn't see coming. Feeling a bit cornered and still in shock, she agrees.
The next thing, Holden is gone again and she's still a bit gobsmacked. He asks her to write to him. She agrees. Slowly they get to know each other again. The thing is, she only knows what he gives her. Holding parts of himself back. They are making progress when tragedy strikes. All the progress made is lost as Holden pushes her away.
Can these two get it together? Will Holden let Pru in? Will she give up on him?
Get the book! A tear jerked at best, it's a story that touches deep. Well written, developed characters and a tough storyline.
Four years ago, Holden Montgomery ghosted on his girlfriend of three years, Prue right after graduation.
Now he’s back and Prue made him work for ut a bit. His excuse was pretty lame. He should have talked to her and called her and kept in touch.
Now he’s back, wanting her back immediately after the death of her father. He proposes he marries her to get his inheritance and she can pay her father’s medical bills.
She agrees and he leaves again. This time, he writes to her, then emails and then Skypes. They get to know each other all over again and that part is very sweet.
More drama and a lost limb. At first I wasn’t into Holden and was put off, but it got immensely better through their letters. Recommend.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A beautifully written second chance romance that will turn your emotions inside out. Holden and Prue were great characters with a great chemistry they both just needed to find their way back to each other.
Prue thought her life was complete she had graduated high school, had a place a college but most of all she had the love of her life Holden. Until she didn't. Now four years later she's all alone and once again face to face to Holden. Holden enlisted in the Marines and has a lot of explaining to do, if he's to explaine to Prue why he left her without a second thought. He thought he was doing it for the best, so Prue could have the life she wanted but he's always regretted it. Can they work through everything that's happened and find their way back to each other before it's too late?
A great story that had me from the get go. It's one I would highly recommend.
This was an interesting one. I loved the storyline with Prue and Holden. Some very touching moments between these two. Holden and Prue should have had forever. But that was taken from them. She suffers something tragic and he comes back into her life. But shortly after he is deployed. Will they get their happy ever after it will it be taken from them? I loved Prue. I loved her strengthen and stubborness. I love the relationship between Holden and Prue. Reading the emails they exchanged had me in tears. Just feeling what they were feeling. A great story with some great characters.
I recieved an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
So, this is my first book that I've read of Harlow Layne.. I'm in love! The story had everything one needs in a great romance. It has meaning and emotions and beautiful characters both inside and out. I couldn't put my kindle down, I devoured it so quickly! Im a new and permanent fan!
This is a standalone but I personally would suggest reading Hollywood Redemption first to get to know the other characters better. I didn't and still loved this one but am now going back to read Alex story!
This book had all the feels. I devoured it, it made me laugh,it made me tear up. It made me hate Holden at times but then love him again two seconds later. Holden and Prue were the epic love story. The love between them was flying across the pages and gad my heart melting! Every page made me want more there was angst, passion, sadness, love and sexiness. Everything about this book had me it was an emotional rollercoaster this was a cute but sexy story of two people finding each other again and a second chance romance with all the feels.
Oh man where do I begin? This story had me hooked from the very beginning. Harlow Layne does an excellent job of hooking the reader and making the characters real and relatable. Holden and Prue didn’t get an easy hand in life, and that’s what makes you want to root for them even more. Their love and pain jumps off the page, causing you to feel every emotion with them. The twists and turns in the story were unsuspecting and kept me turning the page, dying to know what was going to happen next. Unsteady in Love is a must read with amazing writing that will give you ALL. THE. FEELS. Well done.
This book was absolutely phenomenal. I honestly cannot gush about it enough. Holden and Prue are high school sweethearts until one day Holden disappears without a trace. Years later he returns just before he’s deployed again, his heart still beating so deeply for Prue. I don’t want to give away spoilers but I LOVE how Layne brings them back together. How Prue’s heart softens and how Holden fights for her. And then of course there’s the twist you don’t see coming! My emotions are still all over the place from this book and I LOVE it!
I received this book as a free read. This is the 1st time I have read Hawlow Layne. I very much enjoyed the story of Prue and Holden. Holden came back into Prue's life when she needed him; she just had to get over him leaving her before. Holden is in the marines and is deployed over seas. He never stopped loving Prue and it took him a while to find her after graduation again. If you know anything about the military you know it is extremely hard on families. I would love to read her other books in the series.
I received and ARC in exchange for an honest review. I loved second chance love stories. Prue and Holdens’s story was great. They were separated suddenly when they were young and reunited under sad circumstances when they were older. They get together but are not living together and build their relationship back to where it was. I loved this story it broke my heart but by the end I was so happy!! Great read!!!!
What happens when the love of your life disappears 4 years earlier and then all of a sudden he's standing there in front of you, wanting, begging for forgiveness?
For Pru, her world was falling apart again. And now the one boy, now man, who held her heart was back, wanting forgiveness and something else she never would have thought... her.
This is an amazing story about second chances, learn to trust, forgive and love again.
I absolutely loved Prue and Holden's story. It was sweet and angsty and just damn perfect. I love Harlow's stories because they feel so real and this is without a doubt just that. I felt so much for Pure and Holden at some points I was brought to tears... and I loved their love -- even at times it was hard but I love how Pure never gave up on Holden even though he wanted too... It's a perfect story and I recommend it !
