The Difference

Rate this book
A lighthearted swoon-worthy summer read from NYT Bestselling Author, Kaylee Ryan. I've kissed a lot of frogs, just to be covered in warts. I've been lied to, cheated on, and used more times than I can count. I don't have it in me to keep going. I need a break from it all. I need time for the wounds to heal, and the scars to fade. Wouldn't you know it's my luck, to meet a gorgeous man, after declaring my self-imposed break? He's charming, sexy, and determined to change my mind.

I wasn't looking for her, but when I overheard her conversation, I had to add my two cents. Within minutes of talking to her, I knew she was unlike anyone I'd ever met. Bruised from past relationships, she's built a fort around her heart. Doesn't she know the prince always rescues the princess? I think about her all the time. The more I'm around her, the more I want to be. I've made my choice. It's her. Now, all I have to do is prove to her that I'm the difference.

The heroine, Addyson, is jaded, broken and burned too many times by the men she dated before. One was a cheater, the other turned out to be gay, using her as his cover. Another one turned out to be married etc. So now she is taking a break and refuses to date anyone as she is afraid of being broken once again.

Then, she meets our hero, Lucas. He is one of the good ones. It is so very clear. He is perfection. He sees how broken she is and he acts so very patiently with her.

*********************************************

Addyson jumps to conclusions too easily and blames Lucas for no reason. Just because other men did her wrong, she assumes that Lucas will do the same and it is both annoying and frustrating.

Lucas is too patient and forgiving, though. He is like a saint. He is really too good to be true.

*********************************************

Addyson has a best friend, Harper. Lucas has a best friend, Justin. So, we have a side story, that of Harper and Justin’s. They are so very similar to each other; Justin is like Lucas and Harper is like Addyson so what was the point of a second similar love story? Well, whatever.

*********************************************

Now, this book is 200 pages and there is nothing much happening in it. This could have been a better book if it had some story in it but there is literally not much of a story-line. It is plain boring. It’s just Lucas trying to make her trust him and that’s all.

The rest is them cooking, them eating, them going to a concert and singing and dancing. Then another day, them going grocery shopping, or them going to a rodeo. Another day, them going to a festival and another day to a charity event.

Ohh oh, there is some action before the charity event: Addy goes dress shopping with her mother!

Sometimes, they stay at home, then it is them cooking, watching TV etc. And sometimes, them sleeping while hugging… The intimacy comes much later.

*********************************************

At first, Lucas trying to win her heart feels really sweet, but then it gets saccharin sweet and then sickeningly sweet…

Lucas shows her his house and how he designed it for him and his future wife and children, and she is ahhing and ohhing about it.

And another day, when they meet a girl who is interested in Lucas, he shows her how he is only interested in Addy, and she goes all mushy again…

And in the end, when she realizes she loves him and trusts him, it has already become vomit-inducingly sweet for me…

*********************************************

And seriously, all these mundane tasks and slow & patient dating is what the whole book is about. There is nothing else! She is just slow in trusting and all that happens is Lucas trying to show her how serious he is with her. It is a snooze fest, indeed!

*********************************************

There is only one conflict between them. As usual, Addy misunderstands a situation and blames him; Lucas patiently corrects her mistake and all is well again.

*********************************************

Oh oh, before forget, let me tell you that something I do hate in romance books happens (just for the sake of action??? I don’t know). She gets pregnant and it is an unplanned one. With the help of this event, I learn that Lucas is not “the perfect” guy for me because he gets crazy happy saying he wants as many children as she can give him but at least 4…

Huh, as many as she can give?!! What?!?! Is she a chicken laying eggs?! The more eggs the better???!!!

Whatever, he turns out to be not my type of guy in the end... And the book is not my type of book… Sorry ☹

P.S. If you are still interested and wonder if it is safe, it is the safest book ever, I guess...

I’m not sure there’s adequate words for this book to write a review. Because I say this in all honesty and just because. I have read most of Ms. Ryan’s books and I love them all. But without a doubt this book is by far my favorite. I can’t tell you why exactly but I fell and I fell hard for this book. Addy and Lucas, Harper and Justin. Man, these four grabbed my heart and held on tight. They’re still holding on. The main story is Lucas and Addy but you get Justin and Harper’s love story through Addy and Lucas. It’s not just one but two amazing heart grabbing stories wrapped into one. I just wish I had the luck Addy and Harper had at the beginning of this book. Two lucky girls in a bar at the right time, that’s for sure!!

The Difference by Kaylee Ryan is the story of Lucas and Addyson 'Addy '.
Lucas is out with his best friend Justin when he overhears a conversation between Addy and Harper. Lucas knows pretty quickly that there is something different about Addy but what he hears is that she has sworn off men for awhile. Addy has been hurt, embarrassed and burned by past relationships. While out on a girls night with her friend Harper, Addy tells her that she is taking a break from men and dating, then enter Lucas and Justin. Justin and Harper hit it off which sets Addy to keep seeing Lucas who is out to prove that not all men are the same....that they are some good guys out there...namely him.
This was a easy enjoyable read! I will be looking for more from this author for sure!

Kaylee Ryan delivers a fantastic story. What a light and fun read. She’s been burned before, he is set on proving that he’s different. Addyson and Lucas had combustible chemistry, but that won’t be enough to make her open herself up to more heartache. Lucas knows he has to show her what kind of man he really is, and oh what a man that is!

I was completely wrapped in this story. Addy was tough and at times I just wanted to shake her, but really, I got her. I understood her reluctance and wanted good things for her. Lucas was something. He was incredibly sweet and patient and I just loved him. Their story was more of a slow burn. The courting, the tension, the passion...so hot. I really enjoyed their story and am eager to see what Ryan delivers next!

The Difference was a big huge bag of warm fuzzies and it actually was the perfect solution to my book slump. And the ideal lazy mothers day read. Even if I did still manage to find a few things to whinge about I knew it was mostly me just being a miserable bitch.

Kaylee is one of those authors that I kind of forget I love until I see her name pop up then I have a oh yeah moment and get super excited. So basically she turns me into a Labrador.

First off this book was two romances in one. We got the story of Addy and Luke as the main characters but we also got the side story of their besties which was super sweet and less drama than Addy.

Don't get me wrong I liked Addy but she was a bit of a drama queen who saw a catastrophe in every rain cloud. And I know she has been through her share of losers but she just went on and on about it and jumped to stupid conclusions about things.

Luke however was the perfect hero of the story and if I was him I would have run for the hills. But he didn't obviously and he was so caring and understanding and just flat out perfect I kinda was waiting for the other shoe to drop.

But having this written from both points of view made me love him more and understand Addy's fears a little bit. And I really did enjoy watching the side relationship unfold and I would have loved to get a little more of Luke's sister and nephew but maybe they will get their own book later. Please?

Anyway this was a solid 4 star read and I can't wait to see what Kaylee is going to write next.

Phew, what a book. I’m falling more and more in love with Kaylee Ryan’s writing, the more she writes.
I think this one is the difference, pun intended!

Addy and her best friend Harper are out on a girls night in a bar, where Addy complains of her really bad luck with guys she used to date. Throw in two male best friends, Lucas and Justin, eavesdropping on the girls. So they meet.

Addy is adamant on being on a date break, but Lucas is oh so slowly weaseling his way into her heart. Melting the walls around it. She’s been hurt badly, but he works hard for it. You can feel it sizzling in the whole book. The chemistry is there, as it is for Harper and Justin. It’s a great quartett of friends, and I really like the love, friendship, dynamic between them. That’s what besties are for.

As always, Kaylee Ryan has captured me from the first to the last page, and I was sad reading the last sentence. Thank you for bringing this story alive!

Oh, and am I’m the only one opening up Spotify and listening to Dan & Shay while reading?! 😂🤷🏼‍♀️ Tell me I’m not!!!

I kindly received an arc for an honest review!

One Chance can be the Difference

Addyson has had a rough go at relationships and she’s done. Taking the bench. Not willing to risk her heart again.
Lucas overhears Addyson at the bar talking about all her failed relationships. Wanting to get to know her better, he knows that it’s going to be a challenge, but there is something about Addy that draws him in. But Addy has her walls so high it’s going to take something different to tear them down.
I absolutely loved Lucas. He was determined, sweet, and oh so sexy!!! Addy is jaded but deep down wants the love like her parents.
Can Lucas finally knock down her walls or will her insecurities be too much to overcome??

-safe read
-no real om/ow drama
-neither virgins
-cute epilogue (5 years out)

There is one reason I gave this book 5 stars, and that is the hero, Lucas! He was such an amazing guy with the patience of a saint!

Addyson meets Lucas in a bar one night, and has decided she’s given up men. Lucas doesn’t seem to care. He knows Addy is “his difference”. He just has to prove it to her. Addy has her work cut out for her though, because her best friend has instant chemistry with Lucas’s best friend, Justin.

I don’t know if I’ve read a guy as patient as Lucas. There were times throughout the book I yelled at Addy to get over herself. Yes, you’ve had bad luck, but not all guys are bad, and Lucas, you could tell from the beginning was such a great guy.

I also loved Harper and Justin, and would have liked to read them in their own story, but I get why the author used them in this one. It was to help Addy realize that she’d met her knight in shining armor, and he truly was.

The usual “relationship drama” was a little annoying in this book, and Addy jumped to some pretty insane conclusions, but overall, I very much enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

Yet again another quality book from Kaylee Ryan! This book really sheds light on the reality of dating currently, coming from someone with experience! Addyson has had a rough time in the dating world, and after her last disaster of a relationship, she’s decided to take a break. While out with her best friend, she is overheard by Lucas and his best friend, who insert themselves into the girls conversation and try to give them a run for their money in the dating world. Lucas recognizes that Addyson is different than the average girl, and continues to pursue her any chance he can get, especially since their best friends end up getting together. With Addyson being elusive and shy to give it a chance, she can’t deny the unbelievable chemistry between them. Finally she gives into it, and the relationship is amazing. But when assumptions and questions arise, the question is if it will break them apart. I can’t say enough amazingly good things about Kaylee and her books, this one being no exception. Can’t wait for the next one!

This story was super sweet. A little bit on the YA side for me in ways.
The chemistry is there, but it's definitely an insta-love story. I do not mind that one bit.
Not insta-love that it's insta-relationship, but you just know it'll happen you're not sure when or how.

I love Kaylee Ryan's writing in that she knows how to write a good man. They are never jerks or push overs or any sort of bad. Her females are usually a little needy, but that's why we have alphas.

I liked this story, I do wish there was more drama or something to mix it up a bit.

This is not my first read by this author & I LOVE LOVE LOVE her writing style. So, I am very thankful to be able to receive an ARC! I can say right now before all my review, THIS IS MY FAVORITE KAYLEE RYAN BOOK TO THIS DATE! FAVORITE!!!

I won't lie when I say that even in the beginning it's very light but Lucas is SO FREAKING HOT! Just the way he talks and carries himself and interacts with Addyson. He is so different then the men she meets, but she has her right to reserve after all that she's been through in relationships. When Lucas asks for her phone, little did she know he put in his number and texted himself to have hers. Classic move!! Addyson is so jaded, it's not even funny. Talk about not trusting a man but also not trusting yourself regards it. Good luck to Lucas for those walls are high and constructed! Justin on the other had, his game is terrible haha oh man, you'll see. Justin in the friend of Lucas who hit's on Harper. Weak weak game *face palm*

Quote from book: "I'll show her I'm the difference."

Man does Addyson give Lucas a run for his money. It was great to see a woman 'try' and resist but when you've had the relationships she's had, hell I wouldn't even want to jump back in. Lucas only works harder to get over that wall, it's so sweet, sexy and romantic. I love these two, if I didn't know them and met them i'd think they were meant for one another all along. LET THE CAT & MOUSE GAME BEGIN! Or in this case it would involve frogs?!

I am so in love with this story and the characters. Also helps that Kaylee Ryan writing style is always perfect, smooth and easy to read. Relatable characters, page turner scenes, entertaining and ROMANTIC! The hero in here is so SWOON WORTHY I mean UBER swoon worthy, it's sexy and beautiful! The heroine is broken, very broken from her past and she holds on as tight as she can to that broken, that's where the handsome sexy hero comes in and the shattering...it's...you won't be able to stop reading! I know you'll fall in love with the characters as much as I did!! TOP 2019 MUST READ LIST!

RATING: ★★★★★ PLUS

This is my favorite Kaylee Ryan book ever! The Difference is the sweetest, swooniest, most happy sigh inducing book I’ve read in a long time. Right from the start I fell hard and fast for Lucas. The man comes out full swoon sweeping you off your feet the second you meet him. No joke, he is THAT amazing. One night with Addy and their friends and he knows she’s the one for him.
Addy on the other hand has been burned a few too many times. While her previous disastrous relationships may seem a bit funny in the beginning, they certainly left her jaded. Lucas being the perfect man he isn’t deterred one bit though. His slow wooing as he earns her trust makes for the swooniest of romances.

5 Stars!

Kaylee Ryan has an all-new sweet, sexy, swoony new adult romance out and OMG! y'all... you just wait until you meet her next dreamy hero. The Difference was such a good, good book... predictable and comfortable, easy and safe, irresistible and undeniable. This romance had everything I love in this kind of read and Kaylee never ever disappoints with her books.

Just as she was about to give up on love, he stepped up.. spoke to her and it was in that moment that everything changed and not only for her but her best friend too.

Addyson and Lucas stole the show from the moment they stepped onto the page y'all. Addyson.... shew was that girl a hot mess in moments. She wanted him yet couldn't get past her scars from previous men... pushing him away in all the moments until she couldn't anymore. And Lucas, he was different than all the others and gosh did he prove that over and over again. And swoony, dreamy, he was literally the PERFECT book boyfriend.

I know what to expect with Kaylee and that's why I love her. Irresistible heroes. Crushworthy heroines. Unforgettable love stories. The perfect romance every time.

I highly recommend this book.

Once again... I just couldn't put this book down once I started. Addy and Lucas were magic together.

Addyson is broken. She's been lied to, cheated on and ran over one too many times. So when Lucas shows up in her life, even though he has done nothing to mislead her, Addy's trust in Lucas being the real deal is disillusioned by the men of her past.

Lucas knew from the moment he met her, that she was different. He also knew that he had to handle her with kid gloves.

Every page turn, I fell more in love with Lucas. I got mad at Addy at times --- OPEN YOUR EYES GIRL --- because Lucas was doing all the right things. But her hurt was deep and Lucas had the patience of a saint.

Kaylee in a go-to author for me and I get giddy with each new release. The Difference is a story about healing, trust, patience and most of all how love can conquer all.

Once again Kaylee has blown me away...This book has pushed her Rock Star status even higher in my opinion
They say never say never, well for Addy that phrase is very true, The poor woman has been hurt more times then possible. She wants the one. Well is all honesty who doesn't. Here's the thing you never know when the one is just going to walk into your life. For Addy and her best friend Harper it happened on a girls night at a bar.
Lucas Presscott in my opinion is the perfect male character. He's hot and he's got ink!!! To me that's perfection. But also he put's Addyson on a pedestal. That right there makes him 100% swoon worthy

Wow, Kaylee Ryan knows how to turn on the charm. I've loved every one of the books I've read by this author but this might be my favorite. In The Difference we actually get two beautiful love stories in one; Justin and Harper and then the main event, Lucas and Addy.

As girlfriends do, Harper and Addy have shared a lot. Harper has lived through each and every one of Addy's failed love stories with the colossal jerks she's dated. To say these ladies are a little gun shy is a massive understatement. Harper may still believe in the fairy tale but Addy has declared herself on a break from men. But as fate would have it, you find what you've been missing when you stop looking.

Lucas and Justin are best friends and truly good men. Justin has it way easier convincing Harper of his good guy status than Luke does with the guarded Addy but Lucas knows she's worth the effort. Even just texting her sets his heart to racing and it doesn't take him long to figure out she's the one. She might be wary but he's ready. Going after what he wants has never been a problem for him and he's going to show Addy he's the difference!

This book made me swoon so hard! From their first meet, Lucas melted my heart and deserved the notice of our guarded girl. He's sweet, patient (but not too patient) and honest. It might've taken him awhile to win over Addy's heart but he had mine by chapter three. They are just perfect together. I also loved seeing Harper and Justin's love story unfold alongside theirs. Maybe single girls need to check out that bar the girls were at the first night, it seems lucky! Wink wink!

This is such a good book. I want a Lucas for myself. He's is the type guy that any woman dreams of. He has so many swoon worthy moments in this book. His biggest swoon worthy moment is how patient he is with Addyson. Addyson has had the worst luck with relationships and one night at a bar venting about it may just be the best decision she ever made. A chance meeting may lead to ever after. Lucas is showing and proving to Addyson that he is not like the other men she has known in the past. Many feels in this book especially the epilogue. The epilogue is the perfect touch that left me with a smile on my face when I finished this one. This is definitely one you don't want to miss.

Currently putting up past reviews from my Blog on GR because I forgot at the time oops 😅

It's been a LONG time since I disliked a book as much as I disliked this one and one stared it! I would rather not be in this situation but here we are. I don't know what I just read because it didn't have a storyline. It was just the events of the couples getting together with a lot of trust issues and a conflict that resolved within a chapter. If that sounds like a good contemporary romance to you this will be your next favorite book.

Addyson was way too woe-is-me and it was pathetic and annoying. Everyone knows that dating and putting yourself out there is hard. We also know that we're bound to catch more sh*tbags than good people. It's part of being human. Trust issues are also part of that but making this poor guy wear her down to possibly have a relationship with her was uninteresting. My biggest problem, you ask? Well, that was 80% of the story. With no other significant storyline or conflict that was big enough to constitute a plot.

Lucas was a saint. I mean literally a saint. He could do no wrong. He was too everything: too nice, too understanding, too open, too emotionally available. As unrealistic as he was, living with someone like that would drive me up a wall. It would constantly remind me of what I'm not. That's a no thanks from me, dog.

The ending was nice and boring. They get along with everyone's family so well and things move forward at a fast pace and a happily ever after ensues. I don't know what all the 5 stared reviews saw in this novel but it looks like it wasn't for me.

The Audio Book:

Both of the narrations were great! Both had enough of a range in tones and accents to carry the story, especially considering how little interaction the characters have with other characters that aren't their BFFs and their boyfriends.

So this is a romance. There are a few funny parts but mostly it is about a guy who meets a girl and tries to romance her enough to prove he is not like the typical guy she meets. The 'love 'em and leave 'em' type or the 'I'm gay but don't want people to know' type. She's been thoroughly romantically abused. Not physically, just lots of broken hearts. So her trust has flown out the window.
At first I wondered if our hero was going to be another of the list of guys who broke her heart. He seemed to want to prove he was different than other men, but he didn't actually want to commit. But, soon he woke up to the way he felt and then...
A good romance, well written, good character development.

You can never go wrong with a book from Kaylee Ryan. I always know when I pick up one of her books, I am in for a great journey and with The Difference she definitely did not disappoint. I loved this book so much and devoured it. It was such a captivating read!

Addyson is done with men. After one bad relationship after another, she needs a break. But while talking to her friends about her “no more men” plans, she meets a man that wants to prove her wrong. I loved Addyson. She was sweet and caring, if a little reluctant to let another man in, with good reason. Lucas was everything. He was such a good man who was kind and determined. He was unwavering in his pursuit to show her not all men are the same. But can Addyson let him in? The Difference by Kaylee Ryan is her at her best and I highly recommend it!

Although I enjoyed the story, it seemed to take an awful long time to get to the point. Yes Addy had huge trust issues due to all of the lying, cheating losers she dated. But why did a great guy like Lucas, have to suffer for those other guy's sins? Lucas was extremely patient waiting for Abby to realize that he was "different" from the rest and had her best interests at heart. Anyone else would have bailed long ago!
