- Reviewed in Australia on 27 April 2019I really enjoyed my first book by Mia Kayla. I love to read office romance stories, especially if at the start one character hates the other.
Brad was such a great character to read. He was super cocky at times, but this just made him all the more endearing when he fell hard for Sonia. What I liked most was that she had been right in front of him for two years, yet he had never really seen her. That was until she asked him to be her pretend boyfriend and date to one of her friends weddings.
I have always said that I love it when an alpha male falls hard and fast, and this is certainly the case for Brad. He was a bit dumbfounded by it all, but he never shied away from these new feelings.
Also I loved how Brad's nieces were written in to the story. I thought that they were written realistically and helped Sonia and Brad get together.
Would love to read more from Mia in the future.

- Reviewed in Australia on 28 April 2019Desperately Seeking Roommate is an excellent book told from a dual perspective, which I love. This story is low in angst BUT romantic and so funny, sweet. Whilst reading this book I found myself holding my hand to my chest because my heart was just exploding with all the joy within the pages. I didn't want it to end I was enjoying the characters and their story so much.
Both the characters of Abel and Louise, Lou for short), were really well constructed with chemistry burning between them from the word go. I was giggling whilst reading this story and laughing out loud many times too. The humour is what made this book great. Lou is just a breath of fresh air. She is funny, quirky, a curvy girl that loves life, some of the things that pop out of her mouth are hilarious; she has no filter at all, an amazing character who I adored instantly.
Abel is a jock, plays football, is good looking and popular with all the girls, it would be easy to get the wrong idea about Abel but there is so much more to this gorgeous kind man than meets the eye. When he applies to be Lou's roommate she's in for a big surprise and so is he!! I absolutely fell in love with Abel, what a guy (sigh).
This is the first book I have read by this author and I would highly recommend it and it certainly won't be my last. Yes, I loved this story of roommates to lovers which was just a delight to read.

Where to start with this book? I think it’s a solid book, with a few quite large flaws.
Lou. The preoccupation with her weight, and the fact that she keeps going on and on and on about it gets really tiresome. I like that she’s strong and sassy and owns who she is but she doesn’t need to keep going on about it. It’s also contradictory because when she’s with other people all of that disappears. The doubts she has come so easily and again are at odds to who she claims to be.
I liked Abel. He’s a great character. I liked the honesty he had with Lou and she had with him.
I liked Tanner but wanted more of him. I thought he would play a bigger part than he did.
But, there’s flaws.
I’m kind of annoyed that this book is set in the same town as all of Micalea’s other books. I want a new town!
Also, this book reads very young. And why is it such a travesty to be single in college?
In all, this is an okay book.
- Reviewed in Australia on 28 April 2019Lou Powell is the most delightful heroine in a romance book I've read yet. She's funny, intelligent, amusing, confident, and completely crazy. She's great with kids, loves anything pink (girl after my own heart!), post-its, pink Starbursts, the Jonas Brothers and believes in fate. She's what society would call plus sized, but she takes no crap from anyone. She has been hurt before, discarded by thoughtless douchebags she's opened herself up to, but she refuses to give up on her dream of a family to call her own.
When her smarmy landlord puts up her rent she needs a roommate, pronto, so she puts up an ad on campus. To her surprise, it's answered by one of the star footballers. While Lou initially believes the rumours about Abel Russo, she soon learns that he's actually a really nice guy. They get along like a house on fire, and it's not long before the chemistry between them is undeniable.
Abel wants the same thing Lou does - a family. But he's graduating with a degree in physical therapy in a few months, so he's sworn off women to concentrate on his studies. However, he's drawn to Lou like a moth to a flame, and her craziness makes him laugh like no other woman has. When they can no longer deny the way they are attracted to each other, they become more than roommates... but will Lou be able to trust Abel when so many others have let her down? Will the bimbo desperately trying to get Abel in bed be able to finally win in her conquest? Will Lou and Abel's relationship survive the people trying to tear it apart?
I just adored this book so very much. It drew me in, giving me two fantastic protagonists who were clearly fated to be together, and as you get to the end you realise there were so many little signs very cleverly weaved throughout the book which showed that fate played a big part in bringing them together. Lou and her best friend were incredibly funny together, and Desperately Seeking Roommate truly portrays what it's meant to: a romantic comedy with enough of both to keep you smiling for days. If you love good romances, if you love to laugh, and you adore books that give you both, then you just have to read this one.
- Reviewed in Australia on 11 July 2023Loved the quirky FMC. It's hard to find books where the FMC is genuinely funny and quirky and is happy to be herself. It was refreshing

5.0 out of 5 stars So good
Verified PurchaseOh this book was so refreshing and hilarious to read.
Lou is just an amazing FMC. She is so witty, sassy, confident and unapologetically herself.
As a curvier woman, she has found a way to embrace and love herself which in todays society, was wonderful to see. Lou and Miranda are the duo that you want to be friends with. The shenanigans that they got into had tears streaming down my house.
Lou is in quite the pickle when her landlord decides to increase her rent which forces her to post an ad for a roommate. While she has been preparing to live with a guy, she couldn’t prepare for Abel Russo.
Abel is a Football star at their college and is the most sought out by the ladies. He is in his own pickle because he needs to find a place to live and after a hilarious conversation with Lou, they decide to give it a shot.
I quickly realized that Abel was more down to earth than people expected and not just a pretty face. I love how he seems to enjoy Lou’s quirks, their banter was spot on and the sexual tension between these two was amazing.
If you want a low angst read with a lot of humor and steamy moments, look no further.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romantic Comedy Perfection
Verified Purchase5/5 - one of the funniest and sweetest books I’ve read so far.
Everything about Desperately Seeking Roommate ticks all the boxes of what I look for in a rom-com story. The chemistry between Lou and Abel was so undeniable. It was so easy to fall in love with Lou. In fact I’d say that thoroughly enjoyed reading from her POV than I did from Abel’s. And that’s saying a lot because normally I find myself enjoying the male lead POV more than the female lead’s since it’s less complicated and idiotic.
Lou was such a beautifully written character. From her quirks and insecurities to her confidence and unfiltered mouth, everything made her uniquely her and I enjoyed every page learning about her. The story itself is solid, as with most of Micaela Smeltzer’s books. It wasn’t overly complicated. A simple roommates to friends to lovers scenario but it’s the writing that completely won me over. The dialogue and occasional inner thought monologues had me ripping at the seams with laughter. Smeltzer gave Lou such quick wit and a sharp tongue. Even better, she made Abel capable to roll with Lou’s verbal punches. Like I said, the chemistry was undeniable. I can only wish Lou’s and Abel’s story could be longer, but alas all good things must come to an end. And what a perfect end it was.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read
Verified PurchaseIt was nice to read but a little repetitive and Lou personality was a little bit cliche. It was kind of hard for me to enjoy and find her funny that is the reason for 4 stars, but it was a good read anyway.
