Two Torn-Apart Lovers , carrying dull ache in their hearts, meet again 17 years later in Manhattan and rekindle their romance.
Oliver London is a starving struggling Nude Model/Artist , who lost his high school love , Stori Ryder , when she and her family had to abruptly leave town. No communication and connection at all, widens the gap but hearts remain reminiscent. Stori has always carried that dying ember in her heart , just absorbing her life with all work and no play , cause she gave her heart to Young Oliver and never got it back !
I was finally able to convince myself my memories of being so happy were a young girl’s exaggeration of the facts. That’s how I got through it all.
They're brought together by Fig & Zarah, their high school friends , who decide to play Cupid. Oliver and Stori pick their love thread up again and go on a week long cruise to F&Z's destination wedding to coastal France.
It's a beautiful second chance romance and it's a joy to watch these lovers savoring every moment of their togetherness , sexually and emotionally .
“Love is like a river, being called to the sea. Somehow it finds its way over rocks and detours until it becomes part of a greater thing.” Be still my heart.
There's a secondary character -Piper Mann , who props Oliver's floundering career and overnight transforms him into a successful, sought after artist. There's Prudence who supports Oliver in her limited means, as much as possible And then there's Henry Ryder, who is a solid presence in Whiskey River , a happening speakeasy in Manhattan. Stori's baby ! The story is written so well, it flows very smoothly , I especially liked the fact that there wasn't one single cheesy scene or emotion in the story. Very refreshing, very mesmerising story. Some things that bothered me, or I should say, I would've loved more of to make it a wholesome 5 star read One , Henry's past. Very vague, since it was a bombshell of an incident that changed the course of Stori & Oliver's love life and the story, it should've been dealt with more detail and it's repercussions should've been more touched upon, especially the infamous grandma's Secondly, the story was a bit predictable and the turnarounds of fate a little too fairytalish ! I'd certainly could do with a fairy godmother like that !! Piper Mann was most intriguing of all characters , yet she was relegated to the background like a used prop, which I think could've given new dimensions to the story. Why was she so cynical and harsh, how was her relationship with her dad, why did she give second and third chance to Oliver? Lastly Uncle Billy just came in like a Fairy Godfather waving his magic wand to save the story, again, his & Henry's relation should've been explained a bit more. But I couldn't keep the book down ! It packs a lot of heat , for a fast read , sex is very present and happening and I loved it. I enjoyed reading the book a lot and would really recommend this author, cause she's a very graceful writer. Her style is very dignified and vivid in detail Thank you Lara Peterson for recommending the book 4"Green Grotto Fever " Stars #BookBistroBlogApproved Follow us on FB - https://www.facebook.com/groups/BookB... Loved! I originally read about 10 chapter 5 months ago and well I was hooked ! My greedy hands couldn't wait to get the rest and I was not disappointed . Second chance romance what's not to love , what's not hope for. Oliver a struggling artist and Stori who's running her own Speakeasy there's history. When they are thrown together again for a friends wedding shocked is putting it mildly. Past is past right hmmm. Oliver is so swoonworthy and sexy you will be begging for him for Christmas! Grab this one don't wait!
A new story from Leslie Pike that drew me in from the first page. Oliver is a struggling artist, working to create art and support himself and his family. When his best friend gets engaged to an old friend from high school, he is reconnected with the girl who got away. Stori is finally finding success as a club owner and focused only on securing hers and her fathers future when fate brings her face to face with her past. SEXCEPTIONAL is full of heat, heart and all things beautiful. Leslie Pike created magic with Oliver and Stori in this beautiful second chance romance!! So much love!
Leslie just knocked SEXceptional out of the park! It's so dang good. Think second chance love with a hot model/ artist. I got to read just a few chapters back in November and was so excited to get my hands on more. Well I did and holy cow was it so good. If you've read Leslie before and liked. Then I guarantee you will love. If she's new then give this book a chance you will be so glad you did.
Oliver London is a struggling artist. Really struggling. He lives in a run-down apartment barely making ends meet. His best friend, Fig, comes back from Italy with his new girlfriend, Zarah, and they get together for a friendly dinner. What Oliver doesn’t know is that his high school sweetheart, Stori, is invited as well.
Turns out that Zarah is best friends with Stori. She wants Stori and Oliver together. There were circumstances in high school that drove them apart, and neither of them know what happened. I would complain that this part of the story was way too easily forgiven and forgotten.
Right before Oliver reconnects with Stori, he meets a benefactor, who gives him a lot of money. I didn’t love this part of the story either. Her name was Piper, and to be honest, I don’t feel like she added much to the story other than to be bitchy toward Oliver.
The story itself was fine, but it could have been more of a second chance romance, but said above, that opportunity was pretty wasted. Where I didn’t like Piper, I really liked Zarah and Fig and the other characters in the story, mainly Caroline and Luca. They were enjoyable to read.
This book was good, but had the opportunity to be a 5-star read. It just fell a little short with some plot holes.
I absolutely loved The Art of Love by Leslie Pike. A second chance romance that was so heartwarming and sweet. I devoured this story!
Oliver London was a funny and cocky artist. He was so likeable and I loved his protective side. Swoon! Stori has been through so much. Even so she was so sweet and caring, though very careful on who she gave her heart too. Oliver and Stori were torn apart when they were younger and never truly knew what happened.
When their friends are set to be married years later, they are reunited as they are both part of the wedding. She is the one that got away and when they are reunited, Oliver is determined not to let her go again. They quickly reconnect and find that connection they once felt again. But so much has happened in the years they spent apart. Is this their second chance or is it too late after all?
The Art of Love was such a great second chance romance. It was sweet and charming and pulls you right in. I loved the chemistry between Oliver and Stori! I loved the story, the flow and their friends! Another must read from Leslie Pike!
4.5 stars! Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog!
I love a second chance romance, and I'm a big Leslie Pike fan, so I really couldn't go wrong with this one, but even so, Sexceptional took my love of both to a whole 'nother level.
Up-and-coming artist Oliver is funny, just the right amount of cocky, and oh-so-sweet on Stori, (in his funny, cocky, totally heart-melting way). She's his first love...the one that got away, and when she re-enters his life the timing might not be optimal, but he's not going to lose her again.
Speakeasy owner Stori's survived some tough times, and while they've made her into the cautious planner she is, they haven't hardened her. She's caring and smart, and maybe a little wary of losing her heart to a guy she hasn't seen in ten years. But when a commitment to her best friend puts charming, sexy Oliver temporarily back into her world there's just no resisting the chemistry. (Who can blame her)?
The result is a fun, steamy win-her-back romance that absolutely captured my heart!
I loved Stori and Oliver's second chance romance, what a love story! After being torn apart so abrubtly when they were just 16, they're reunited years later...and what a reunion it is! So sweet and heartfelt, it had me completely choked up!
This isn't just a terrific story of lost love. It's a story of growth and perseverance, of dreams and passion. Just as Oliver's dream is coming true, Stori's might just be coming to an end. But after having been separated for so long they both realize there's so much more to life than jobs and careers, and as long as they have each other they can face any obstacle that comes their way. And it may take years, and there may be changes and stumbling blocks along the way, but dreams really do have a way of coming true.
4.5 stars!! This is a great story about high school flames reconnecting, friendships, family and love. I love that the relationship(s) are more mature (the main characters are in their early 30s) and that there isn't isn't that immaturity that seems to be common with couples in their 20s. The chemistry between Stori and Oliver is hot! The antics between the friends is hilarious, especially on the boat. I hope to see more from these characters in the future. Great job Leslie!! <3
My first book by Leslie Pike and I absolutely loved it! This second chance romance is about a struggling artist and a business owner who lost touch with each other because of outside forces. After 17 years, they continued where they left off. I thought the book was well written and the story romantic. I look forward to reading more books by Leslie Pike.
In true Leslie Pike fashion this book is smoldering HOT. I was hooked immediately by this story, Oliver the hot artist-model and Stori the one that got away. The secondary characters were also just as interesting. The writing is exceptional!! Well-done Mrs. Pike!
Stori and Oliver's have such a wonderful second chance at love. After being torn apart almost two decades earlier they are reunited and have a chance at happiness and love together.
Their dreams really do have a chance to come true when they realize what is most important in life.
Oliver and Stori We’re high school lovers but when Stori family life takes a turn for the worse they leave town without a word, and unfortunately that means Stori must leave Oliver too. After 17 Years?! They are reacquainted and the moment their eyes connect, all their love and memories come rushing back. The chemistry is strong but the hurt is deep and before anything can be fixed between the two of them, the conversation of what happened all those years ago must be had. I loved the automatic chemistry between Oliver and Stori, it was obvious they were soulmates. What I loved most about them was that no matter what was happening they put each other first. Narrated in dual by Wen Ross and Kai Kennicott with all the fun and sexy tones, they expressed these too so well. I loved having our past favorites Fig and Luca along for the ride and I adore all the second Chance love stories coming back full cirrcle.
Thank You Lara for the opportunity to listen and review.
This is a second chance at love for Oliver and Stori. After loosing touch with each other they reunite again 17 years later when high school friends of theirs are getting married and they have been invited to be part of the wedding party.
Their attraction to one another is still very strong and they both decide to act upon it instead of letting it slip away like it did in the past.
I loved reading about their week long trip to France and Italy with the wedding party and how they reconnected and fell in love. It was very romantic and steamy.
There is a bit of drama and setbacks for both Oliver and Stori but together, and with the help of their loved ones and friends they navigate these challenges.
The secondary characters in the story were loveable and fascinating in their own way and somehow fitted into Oliver and Stori’s life perfectly.
I enjoyed this quick flowing sexy read.
Many thanks to Leslie Pike for my copy to read and review.
I am on cloud nine! This book...gah one of the most enchanting second chance romances ever. Leslie Pike has this unique talent to write utterly perfect detail in every aspect of the book. I felt transported through every chapter of this exceptional journey right along with Oliver & Stori and the rest of the supporting characters. I loved every single one of them. Different from anything else I've read. So refreshing!
Fig & Zarah were best friends of Oliver & Stori growing up. They recently reconnected and fell in love themselves. They then hash a plan to include their best friends in their wedding festivities and finally reunite them after 14 years. This remarkable storyline is so thoroughly entertaining! Excellent rom-com elements. Off the charts chemistry. And when the air is finally cleared between these two love birds...downright exhilarating! I practically jumped out of my chair cheering for them when they learned the truth about their unreturned letters and losing touch. So freakin' excited knowing wickedly hot moments were on the horizon for this couple. So much time to make up for and so much to look forward to in the future. From start to finish Oliver and Stori go through quite the transformations both personally and professionally. Priorities become clear. Goals change. Love is rekindled. And this cruise...such a fun, creative setting for this story to take place. The event they plan for entertainment one night on the ship is one of my favorite book moments of all time. So stinkin' funny!
Like I said this is one of the best! With every book I read of Leslie's I feel like it is her best yet. Sexceptional really is a fantastic book.
I received an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. Truly an honor. I respect this author so much and can't wait to see what she has in store for us next.
I've only ever read one other title from Leslie Pike but I am a sucker for a good second-chance romance so I knew I wanted to give Sexceptional a try. I was pulled into Stori and Oliver's sweet story and rooting for them from the first moment they reconnected.
How they reconnected was where the magic happened. Their best friends from childhood are getting married! Those Dragoni twins were too funny and loaded. Hence the week long yacht tour through the French Riviera. It was the perfect backdrop of the romance that got away from Oliver and Stori all those years ago.
I can't say who I liked better, Oliver or Stori. They were both interesting in their own right. Both dedicated to their families. Both struggling a bit in the pursuit of their dreams but following their passions. Success is at their doorstep but life happens and their futures are up in the air.
Despite the setbacks, the one thing that was never in question was that they wanted to be together. Oliver and Stori battled through time and life and somehow found their way back to one another and they weren't letting that go. Ever. From the bowels of Brooklyn to the shores of Italy, Sexceptional was an adventure on every page.
Lovely second chance romance by Leslie Pike. I liked that Stori was such a hard working determined young woman. She knew what she wanted and wasn't afraid of hard work to make it happen. Oliver was also a great character. He was down on his luck for so long but never gave up his art. He remained true to himself all along even after his luck changed for the better. I liked their love story very much. They both had exceptional friends who invited them on a journey neither of them would ever forget. I liked the glimpses in Stori and Oliver's teenage love. They both knew what they had was special. Unfortunate circumstances teared them apart and had them left missing a good chunk of their hearts. After 14 years they reunite but with both of them harboring hurt feelings they are both careful about what they want their new relationship to be. By the time they are on the cruise they already rekindled their feelings and are head over heels in love. It was great to see how their relationship blossomed through good and bad. They were meant to be together only took a few detours on the way. I also liked the secondary characters. All in all it was a very well written romance. Light on drama it was a feel good story for me.
I am a big fan of Leslie's work...right from the first book. So I was super excited that another novel was coming out! Sexceptional is not what you would expect...in a great way. With this book you get two developed characters that have a second chance to connect. Their chemistry is off the charts, and their development is fantastic. You get a STORY. (no pun intended!) I felt like Stori and Oliver each had their own struggles, but learned how to conquer them as a unit. I loved this book! I can't wait to see what is next!

Ms Pike has become one of my go to authors, especially when I am looking for something just a little different and that trend continues with Sexceptional.
Stori and Oliver were high school sweethearts until life (and an interfering Grandmother) severed their relationship. Fast forward 17 years and fate brings them back together when their respective best friends become romantically involved.
I appreciated the fact that Ms. Pike allowed us to get to know these characters as individuals and then allowed us to take the journey of reconnecting with them. Neither character had a huge emotional growth curve, but they did both grow and change together and it was sweet to see.
Well written and very entertaining, Sexceptional is a fantastic read, especially for anyone who believes in the idea that if it's the right person, the right time will come along too. A fun secondary cast rounds things out and contributes to this being a truly good book representing Ms. Pike's unique style of storytelling.
A struggling artist who finds a break in the hands of a no-nonsense agent. A club owner trying to make ends meet and secure a future for her father and herself.
Oliver and Stori haven’t seen each other in years but their best friends’ wedding is the place for their reunion and what a reunion it is. Oh that boat scene… watch for that one. When they finally find out what caused their separation all those years ago, they decide that the past in just that and they will do everything they can to make sure their future is full of happiness.
Oliver is strong and protective and I loved how he always made sure to have Stori’s best interest in mind. Stori is also a strong character, although sometimes her insecurities got the best of her. This was such a good story of second chances with characters that will make you laugh and cry. Their interactions with each other and with their pets were hilarious. So much chemistry, friendship, love, and sexy times.
What a truly sweet story of second chances! Stori and Oliver are torn apart through family circumstances when they are 16. Both have longed to have that romance back, but moved on to achieve their dreams as adults. When mutual friends become engaged and they are in the wedding, they are given the chance to reconnect through a private cruise with their friends. They find that they each never forgot the other over the years and it was through no fault of their own that letters were not received by the other when they were torn apart as teens. They immediately allow their attraction and chemistry to take the lead and leave the past heartache behind and focus on the future. They are both great and humble characters. They both were there for the other as they watched their dreams possibly being shattered. But they stand by one another and support the other unlike any story I have ever read. And in the end their hard work, determination and fate allow an amazing HEA!
Wow, what a good story. Sexceptional by Leslie Pike is such a wonderfully written feel good story!! I enjoyed reading it very much. I had so many feel good moments it's hard to choose just one.
The moment that Oliver saw Stori, oh man, the goosebumps that formed on my arms was insane and I was almost in tears also and I had only just started the book. Then their first kiss after years apart...OMG!!! I was a wreck!! What is also really enjoyable is the open sexual banter. Neither are shy and they both know what they want and like. Love it!!!
The supporting characters, Piper, Prue, Fig, Zarah, Luca, Caroline, Gracie, and many more were all extraordinary. Each one brought a different element to the story and I felt like I wanted more of them all!!
Overall this fantastic, romantic and heartwarming book by Leslie is a must read!!!
This was a heartwarming second chance romance. Stori and Oliver were torn apart at 16, but now in their 30's they are getting a second chance to see where things go. When their best friends get married, Oliver and Stori are taken for the vacation of their lives and that trip changes everything for them.
I loved the fierce protectiveness of Oliver and Stori was a strong person also. They didn't let the past slow them down or linger too much on what had happened. I loved that they were ready to move forward in the present. I loved the interaction with some of the characters and their pets. It shows another side of a person and I loved seeing it come out of Oliver and some of the other characters. This was a good read.
Sweet second chance romance between Stori and Oliver who meet again many years later when their best friends are getting married. Each has had completely new lives since they split up as teens and when they see each other again...watch out because the fireworks are about to commence!! Neither one knows what to expect but it's clear Oliver isn't letting his girl go again. I truly loved his drive and need for Stori any way he could get her.
An easy-going kind of read, this one has the right mix of romance, a bit of heartache and some extremely HOT sex scenes. An overall good book that kept my interest and at the conclusion, this one felt complete. Oliver and Stori have great chemistry and you can't help but root for them all the way.
I've read up to chapter ten . Reading as fast as she's writing. Can't wait to see what Oliver has in store.
I couldn't wait to dive back into Oliver and Stori. This was a romantic look at a second chance with someone who you due to life circumstances were torn away from them when Stori moved away unexpectedly. They have a surprise meeting years later when their best friends get engaged and invite them on a wedding cruise and the sparks from years ignite and they explore each other but will it last when they get back to New York and real-life hurtles in both their lives. Read this wonderful #secondchance romance and find out.
Sexceptional by Leslie Pike is a full-length, standalone romance novel about second chances.
Meet Oliver London and Stori Ryder. Oliver is a up and coming artist. He works as model, was a dancer once and is not interested in romance. Stori Ryder owns the Whiskey River Club. Both have issues and difficulties to make ends meet. The property who the club stands on is about to be sold. Both are old acquaintances/lovers/friends. And now they meet again and a beautiful love story blooms. Sexceptional is a beautiful second chance story. I liked the writing, the characters and the story. I give 4 stars, thank you, Leslie Pike!
Leslie is a new to me author and I loved this second chance romance!! Leslie did such a great job with it all. Olivier and Stori are given a second chance and they take it. They leave the past behind and give each other the chance they deserve. Both great characters are well developed and so great together. Their story is full of romance and it’s fun and I was rooting for them to get the HEA they deserved. I really enjoyed Leslie’s writing and the pace. Go one click!
