Royally Pucked (Copper Valley Thrusters Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 6,542 ratings

A hockey-playing prince, a most improper lady, and one accidental pregnancy…

When you’re an heir so spare that you’re more likely to be struck by lightning than to ever wear a crown, you’re allowed certain liberties.

But after taking those liberties with the wrong lady, I’ve been banished to America for a year. The world thinks it’s so I can indulge in my favorite pastime on a professional hockey rink, but really, I’m here while my father cleans up my latest mess.

My orders are clear: be an ambassador for my country, make the family proud, and stay far, far away from women.

No one ever said they had to stay away from me though.

Which is exactly how Gracie Diamonte, the world’s greatest baker, most adorable dinosaur-suit wearer, and the very model of kind innocence, sneaks past my defenses.

And my guard.

And how we end up facing a very unexpected pregnancy.

Of course I’ll stand by her while we navigate our newly entwined futures.

Just as soon as I solve that pesky problem of my other royal duties.

Royally Pucked is a hilariously wrong romance between a spare heir and the lady least likely to ever wear a princess crown, complete with dirty cookies, an emotional support monkey, and lots of pucking around. This romantic comedy stands alone with no cheating or cliffhangers and ends happily with a family of…more than two

Pippa Grant wanted to write books, so she did.

Before she became a USA Today and #1 Amazon bestselling romantic comedy author, she was a young military spouse who got into writing as self-therapy. That happened around the time she discovered reading romance novels, and the two eventually merged into a career. Today, she has more than 30 knee-slapping Pippa Grant titles and nine published under the name Jamie Farrell.

When she’s not writing romantic comedies, she’s fumbling through being a mom, wife, and mountain woman, and sometimes tries to find hobbies. Her crowning achievement? Having impeccable timing for telling stories that will make people snort beverages out of their noses. Consider yourself warned.

    Gracie & Manning

Oh. My. Freakin'. Dog!! Get this book NOW! This has got to be the most side-splitting, gut-busting, laugh-so-hard-you-cry, spew-your-drink, my-side-hurts-make-it-stop, hilarious rom-com I’ve ever read! Somehow I found my way to this author's newsletters and that delightful entertainment prompted me to grab the chance to read an advance copy of this book. My only regret is my failure to highlight these laugh-out-loud gems as I read so I could quickly recall them the next time I need a laugh, which simply means a revisit to Gracie and Manning’s story in the near future. After I read the first book, of course, because there's no resisting catching up on Zeus and Joey's story, having had a small taste of them here.

So the basic premise is this: a spare heir to the throne of a small Nordic country wreaks so much havoc his father, the king, sends him to play hockey in the States while the messes get cleaned up in time for him to wed the woman he was betrothed to practically from birth. The naughty prince behaves just a little badly, resulting in an unfortunate future heir by way of Joey's sister, Gracie, a sweet bakery owner from Alabama. Royal mayhem and Southern shenanigans ensue. Throw in a monosyllabic gentle giant of a hockey player/roommate (Aries), a harridan shrew with a traitorous emotional support monkey (Manning's betrothed), and a woman with more attitude and testosterone than hockey players (Joey), then grab your popcorn, sit back and enjoy the show.

Don’t let the above lull you into thinking it’s all fun and games. There’s plenty of heat with the slow burn, off the charts chemistry between Manning and Gracie, but most of all, a ton of heart as Gracie and Manning sort out the mess and find their happily ever after. And did I mention bonus epilogues? They take place between the last chapter and the book's epilogue and are a perfect addition that you won't want to miss, so don’t forget to grab them from the link at the back of the book. In the interest of full disclosure, I’ve already grabbed The Pilot And The Puck Up and read Zeus and Joey's story last night. Trust me, once you get a taste of these characters you're going to want more and more of them! These characters are endlessly entertaining, sweetly endearing, unique, quirky and larger than life. They’ll bulldoze their way into your heart, making themselves right at home, and you’ll love every minute of it!

Manning Frey is a Prince in the country of Stolland, a small country located in Scandinavia. But, as he says, he's the expendable kind of prince - he is fourth in line to inherit behind his 2 older brothers and his eldest brother's son. Not that he cares - he is not king material, though the role is largely ceremonial these days anyway. After a small incident involving the Prime Minister's daughter (it was just a friendly kiss), Manning has been "exiled" to the United States for a year under the guise of joining the NHL to promote tourism in Stolland. And so far, he has no complaints. His teammates are great guys; he loves playing hockey; and America has definitely embraced him. Well, there is one complaint... he has to have a security detail follow him around, not so much for security purposes but to keep him in line as his father has warned him: no more scandals, especially with his upcoming nuptials. Yep. Manning is to be married... but not to a lady of his choosing: to a woman he cannot stand who only wants him for his title. When he was a child, Manning's grandfather betrothed him to the daughter of an earl, and he has yet to find the escape clause.

Gracie Diamonte makes pornographic cookies. Yes, she does. She puts random people's genitalia on cookies and sends them all over the country, thanks to Etsy and a joke that went a little too far. But no matter, it pays the bills and keeps her little bakery in Goat's Tit, Alabama afloat. Not that anyone there knows about her little side hustle; otherwise, they'd probably stage an intervention involving holy water to save her soul. But Gracie's simple life is turned upside down after realizing the dream so many girls have: she got it on with a prince! But even though they used protection, Manning Frey must be carrying around some extra potent swimmers bc one time and BAM - she's pregnant. This is not how Gracie saw her life going, but it is what it is, and she has decided to rock single motherhood. The prince deserves to know he is going to be a father, though, so she treks to the big city for a surprise visit to break the news.

Manning is stunned. The one time he was able to shake his security detail for a few minutes (which gave him the opportunity to have explosive relations with the woman that had been on his mind since he first met her) resulted in a pregnancy?! Though his shock quickly changes to interest... in both being involved in his child's life AND spending more time with the enchanting Gracie. But since he has no way to get out of his marriage contract, is there any possibility of having the chance to do either? And since when does a woman NOT want anything to do with a prince like Gracie seems to? Is there any chance for a simple country girl and a polished prince to have a future together? But the bigger issue is... what the hell is up with the support monkey roaming around his apartment?!

    What I liked:
--- The sense of humor in Grant's books shines through in this one again - several moments had me doubled over
    --- I loved Manning's character
    --- More time with Ares!
--- Steamy goodness! (Starts with a quick bang - literally - but then shifts to somewhat of a slow burn but worth it)
    --- 2 words: support monkey

What I didn't like as much:
--- Some inconsistencies with characters (Gracie was kind of all over the place at times)
--- The match of these two was a little off the wall - it was hard to see why they were actually attracted to each other (Gracie was a constant hot mess; Manning was the epitome of cool & collected 98% of the time); I guess it goes toward the "opposites attract" element, but I didn't really get a solid sense of why they were a thing

Overall, another cute story with unforgettable characters, plenty of humor, and steamy goodness! I am very much looking forward to Ares's story coming up next.

    Plot --- 3.5/5
    Main Characters --- 4/5
    Supporting Cast --- 4/5
    Steam Level* --- 3.5/5
Violence --- none I can recall
    Language --- yes
    POV --- Dual

*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild (nothing descriptive); 2/5 - 3rd base action/1 home run; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere (a couple of full-on steamy scenes); 4/5 - yes please! (erotica territory); 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all

I do so love a Pippa Grant book! After recently finishing a heavy read, this book was exactly what I needed to get back into that fun, romantic frame of mind. Royally Pucked follows the story of Manning Frey ( a Hockey playing Prince and Royal Spare) and Gracie Diamonte a sweet, kind southern girl who bakes for a living. She doesn’t care about money or titles and lives a simple life in the small town she grew up in. They both meet at an event and that leads to a romantic encounter which results in a pregnancy. As much as Manning would like to make things right, there are several obstacles to that and soon all sorts of interesting and sometimes hilarious events follow.

I love the characters Pippa creates because you immediately fall in love with them. They have such interesting personalities and huge hearts. Gracie and Manning have an unconventional start going into their romance and through all that, their immediate spark becomes so much more. He likes that Gracie sees him as just a man ignoring all the royal trappings he’s carrying and he loves all the things that make her Gracie. It is very clear that Gracie doesn’t need Manning to save her or come to her rescue in any way. She is not in need of saving, but Manning is and she is just the girl to do it.

I love the banter between the characters and I can’t wait to read more in this series. I’ve been doing so a bit out of order, but it’s not hindered my enjoyment one bit. You get a lot of romance and some spice, but most of all you end the book with a warm feeling in your heart and a smile on your face.

After The Pilot and The Puck-Up, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Pippa Grant.
Why this book is a so very good surprise. I loved it was so different from the previous story. Of course, all the characters we love are back. This is still a rom-com but in a different way than Joey and Zeus crazy story.
This read is the perfect feel-good book, I smiled and laughed with Gracie and Manning. Even if their road to love is not a smooth and straight one, there is no crazy angst nor ugly breakup. They are enough smart to adult their acts, even trying to protect the other making sometime wrong decisions, there is no shouts nor roarings.
Manning and Gracie are two very touching persons, they have their flaws but they care for the others.
Gracie does not see as princess’ material but she would do anything in the name of love.
Manning tries to fit in his royal duties but he can’t give up Gracie in the name of his country.
They are a perfect match, beyond their chemistry under the sheets, Manning can be himself with Gracie as she expects nothing from him except being loved.
There is a lot of tenderness in this story, less laugh-out-loud moments but many many sweet scenes showing how much everyones care for the others, a great read of acceptance whomever you are.

Pippa Grant has done it again - written a book with a great sense of humour. I loved this book because of the humour in the story. Manning Frey is a Prince and a spare. He is also an ice hockey player and a good one at that. He has also been betrothed since he could walk. Most importantly he falls in love with a girl from a small southern town in the USA. A beautiful, funny story that should be read by one and all.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really funny yet touching read.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 6, 2018
Pippa Grant has been one of my favourite finds of 2018.
These books are hilarious, yet carry an emotional, touching undertone that I find irresistible.
Gracie is a seemingly uncomplicated woman who oozes sweetness. Scratch the surface and she has a will of pure steel and a drive to succeed. I really appreciated the lack of artifice in her character, she just so genuinely kind and decent.
Contrast her with Manning, a Prince seemingly without purpose. It would be so easy to cast him as an vacuous playboy and he tries to cultivate this image. Scratch his surface and you find a man who just wants to be loved for who, not what, he is.

I loved them as a couple, the love they felt for each other transcends all obstacles.

There's great humor running through the whole book and I laughed at the antics of secondary characters, especially Zeus with his main means of communication, the (in)appropriate Gif! I can't wait for his story, there's an entire ocean of secrets behind his largely nonverbal persona.

I can't recommend this book and author highly enough. Fun reads, with hidden depth.
