Just Getting Started

Gabby

My life isn’t exactly going as planned. I’m basically floating up a certain creek without a paddle. Desperately needing a new place to live, I receive an offer I can’t refuse, and you never look a gift horse in the mouth, right? Unless that particular mouth is connected to an uber sexy manwhore that makes me want to punch him in the face and then kiss him until I pass out from lack of oxygen. I must avoid him like the plague.

Chase

Gabby Connor; there is no request too small in my eyes. When I blurt out an offer I know she can’t refuse, I don’t think either one of us realize that our lives are about to change. Something else I didn’t comprehend, how hard it would be to keep my hands off of her, or my mouth, or my… you get the picture. It’s our time, no more hiding or waiting in the wings. I’m pulling out all the stops. I’m tired of being in the friend-zone. It’s time to take what I’ve always wanted.

But nothing is easy for us. Our road is full of twists and turns and a few surprises along the way. When push comes to shove and the cards are thrown on the table, can we navigate a new life, especially when we’re just getting started?

Reading more like the second half of a duet than a standalone romance, there's a whole lot about Just Getting Started that I liked, but I couldn't get behind the pacing. As the second book in a series, readers were introduced to Gabby and Chase prior to the start of this story, and from what I can gather, they had a banter-filled, playful enemies-style relationship. That is... absolutely not how they act in this. I think readers who have read the first book in the series will enjoy this book a LOT more than those who haven't, because while they may technically be standalones, readers who haven't read both will find Gabby and Chase's relationship to be complete and total insta-love.

The story follows Chase, a reformed player, and Gabby, the woman he developed feelings for a long time ago. Chase knows Gabby isn't ready to start something with him because she doesn't trust that he's left his slutty lifestyle behind, but he knows that she's his future. When Gabby needs a temporary housing solution, Chase offers up his guest room and things escalate quickly. Neither one can deny their feelings for long, and their relationship finally gets on track... only to be knocked off course by a major blindside.

I really liked these two as characters - the sweet but definitely alpha Chase whose only focus is his girl, and the feisty, strong Gabby. I also liked some of the more tender moments between them. My main complaint is that I feel like I missed out on the period where these two were falling for each other - they're already there when the book begins, with Chase thinking about marriage and Gabby resisting Chase only because she thinks he's a player (I found the resolution to that situation to be better than anticipated). Add in the twist that changes the course of their relationship, and this book isn't anything like I expected. Now that I'm caught up on the series, I'm intrigued to read the next book, because there was so much that I DID like about the story - but you really need to read them in order. I received an ARC via Give Me Books and am voluntarily leaving a review of this sweet yet sexy read.

So glad these two authors continued on from the first book in this series! After we saw Gaby’s sister get her HEA with her husband, I was so excited to see what happened for Gaby and her brother-in-law’s best friend Chase. While Chase was always the biggest player because of his past, he was starting to realize that he wanted what his best friend had, and decided to finally act on his feelings for Gaby. Gaby also has feelings for Chase but has kept them hidden because of his reputation. Not believing he’s changed, she keeps him at a distance until Chase’s life is changed forever by a package dropped off late at night. As she helps him to make heads or tails of the new situation and new normal, she figures out that she has a good guy in Chase and they navigate the new situation together. I was so glad to see these two get their HEA and end up together! With some plot twists that I didn’t see coming, I was so into this storyline! Can’t wait to see who’s next!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Chase is the possessive sort, "...I sure as eff don’t want them to see what you’re hiding underneath these clothes.” Chase is whooped when it comes to his woman, "she turns on her heel and heads toward her office. I follow her like the lovesick fool that I am. I would follow her anywhere." I liked this book, I liked Chase.

Lacey Black and Kaylee Ryan are bak at it again for another great romance in Fair Lake and I couldn’t be happier! Chase and Gabby throughout the first book It’s Not Over were shamelessly flirting and their banter was absolutely hilarious and it’s only gotten better now that it’s their turn at love.

Gabby has always forged her own path in life never asking for help and very rarely even accepting help when it’s offered. Unfortunately, when she has to move out of her apartment with very little notice she doesn’t have great options available to her and when Chase is oh to happy to offer her a bed at his place Gabby is more determined than ever to not just be another notch on Chases bedpost!

Chase is tired of being viewed as the man whore best friend and when an opportunity falls into his lap to finally maybe have Gabby truly see him, Chase knows he has to take it!

The banter between these two will have you laughing almost non stop! Their story is full of twists and turns, explosive chemistry and great love story that will leave you wanting more! I can’t wait until these two amazing authors bring me more from Fair Lake!

Lacey Black and Kaylee Ryan write yet another perfect alpha swoon worthy male in their second release in the Fair Lakes series, Just Getting Started.

We previously met Chase, Harrison’s BFF and Gabby, Gwen’s little sister in the author’s co-writing debut novel, It’s Not Over. You absolutely don’t have to read It’s Not Over to enjoy Chase and Gabby’s story. However, you will miss why we all were hoping these two authors would write their story.

In Just Getting Started, we finally see these two admit to their feelings. Throughout much of the first novel we see them banter, bicker and deny their interest. A true frenemies love story. So, when signing up to review this novel, I thought for sure we would see some more bickery banter and sexual tension. Instead, Black and Ryan delivered more of a insta-love story, in my opinion.. From the moment these two are truly pushed together these authors take them from 0-60 in just a few seconds. Chase was utter perfection as he laid out all his cards to Gabby. His constant pursuit, undeniable feelings and swoon worthy ways are just a few reasons why readers consistently sigh over the imaginary world these two authors dream up. And while I love a good romance to lift you off your feet and into the clouds, I have to say, without giving away all the plot line, this one will definitely do that for you.

Black and Ryan aren’t writing an every day romance filled with hardships. While this one does have turmoil it’s like it really didn’t faze either of these characters a bit. Once their minds were made up to go for a chance at forever nothing could stop them. Not even reality. This one was a bit too peachy perfect for me. While I truly enjoyed the happily ever fairytale, I missed a bit of true turmoil between these two. But, if you are looking for a romance that will take you away from your drama filled life, then this one is it. The characters are interesting, the strong familial bonds are present and it’s definitely a series that you’ll want to continue reading as these authors give you tiny little hints and promising details about where it’ll go next. I’m sure Colton, much like Harrison and Chase, will be yet another Fair Lakes man that will keep us sighing, content, and in romance filled bliss.

Just getting Started Kaylee Ryan
“Friends to lovers, 5 stars”

Gabby and Chase are friends but friends who constantly bicker. Chase has wanted Gabby for some time now but has been biding his time. When He sees his shot, he takes it. Chase knew when he finally got her that it was a done deal, no one else was for him. But when a surprise shows up on his doorstep, he can’t help but be worried he’s going to lose her. Only he doesn’t. Will they be able to make this work or is it too much all at once?
I loved Gabby and Chase. At one point I sat back and was like aw naw these authors didn’t! Right when Gabby says okay let’s do this they throw this couple under the bus. But they came out stronger than before. One thing is for sure, if you like friends to lovers, alpha males, strong heroines, and a random baby look no further.

I was privileged enough to receive an advanced reader copy of this book from the author for a voluntary and honest review.
This is the second book by these authors and I still can't tell who wrote which part. For me? That's a good thing. This book was like romance novel perfection. The kind of book that wraps you up in its story immediately, keeps the butterflies coming, and ends before you're ready to let go. It's smartly written, sometimes funny, and...ugh it did things to my heart.

I loved the first book in the Fair Lakes series, where we were introduced to Gabby and Chase and I was so looking forward to their story and I was not disappointed. Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black are rapidly becoming of one of my favorite writing duos. Their writing seamlessly blends together creating stories that captures instantly.

I absolutely loved Gabby and Chase’s story. It has everything. Banter. Intensity. Twists. Lovable and swoonworthy characters. It’s truly a beautiful story. I really enjoyed Chase and Gabby as characters and felt their chemistry. They were a great fit for each other and complimented each other perfectly.

This book; a frienemies to lovers romance, has everything I need in a unputdownable read. The banter, the sizzling chemistry, the small dose of angst and a few surprises along the way. These are all present in this well-written, heartwarming love story from two authors who have quickly become an automatic one-click fave duo for me! I cannot wait to see what these two come up with next.

This book is the second book in this series. Fair Lakes Series. I absolutely loved this book it was just as good as the first one.

I absolutely love the covers of these books too.

FAIR LAKES SERIES
Book 1 =  It's Not Over
Book 2 = Just Getting Started.

Chase has decided that he's had enough of just sleeping with any woman that throws herself at him and he wants more. He wants what his friends have, the family the home he's sick of just having one nighters. Chase has feelings for Gabby and she's not easily convinced. Chase has his work cut out for him.

Gabby is in a pickle at the moment and needs somewhere to live as her building gets sold. She's hardly any time to find somewhere else so Chase offers her a room at his home. Gabby is attracted to Chase just as much as he is to her only she's keeping her feelings quiet she doesn't believe he can change. There is alot of banter between these two which I love and they a strong connection .
The story line is fantastic and all the twists throughout keeps you guessing.

This book has characters from the first book Harrison and When and we get to see where they are with their story which was fantastic. You can feel Chase and Gabby's love and their sexual chemistry and they are great together. I really enjoyed reading this book and hope that their is more books in this series.

I look forward to reading more from these authors in the future.

Thank you to the author and publishers for allowing me to read an early copy of this book.
ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone when it gets released.

This book is expected to be released 4th February 2020.

Just Getting Started is all I can think about when it comes to this collaboration, because Lacey Black and Kaylee Ryan are just getting started with some serious epic romance novels. I don't ever want this collab to end. Just Getting Started flowed so naturally, I seriously could not tell you who wrote what. There was so much depth and amazing dialogue that held so much witty banter, I could not stop reading once I started. Although I wouldn't say this book is angsty, I am saying that I was shocked by some of the feelings that Just Getting Started evoked from me. I mean I am not really surprised because both of these authors do that to me, they make me feel everything their characters feel. I was just surprised by the story line, because Holy firecracker, I did not see that plot coming. I loved the characters and secondary characters. It was so nice to be able to see past characters resurface, and have their impact on this novel. The chemistry was out of this world. It was blinding and pure sexiness. Overall this story was amazing, now I can't wait for the next book in this series. Praying to God it's Coltons.

Gabby is witty and unfiltered with sassiness that will have you doubling over in laughter. She has a kind heart with a giving soul.

Chase is a sexy personal trainer that can reel in any woman with his looks alone. He is funny and light, can banter with the best and loves to tease.

When Chase gets fed up with Gabby putting him in the friend-zone, he takes matters into his own hands. But what happens when the unexpected happens?

*I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!

Another fantastic read from Kaylee and Lacey. These two together are proving to be a dynamic duo bringing love, laughter, and heart to their books. I really enjoyed Gabby and Chase and can't wait for the next book in the series!

Gabby and Chase have always had a volatile relationship. The two seemed like oil and water those around them but secretly the two are about to combust from their secret love for each other.

This book gives you all kinds of feels as the two finally decide to declare their love for each other instead of going into war. But a wrench is thrown into the arena when Chase finds a baby on his doorstep and feels like this may be the end-all to his new relationship with Gabby.

I loved how these two work together and allow their years of friendship to turn this surprise into something so beautiful between the two of them.

Kaylee and Lacey's books are so easy to read. You get lost in their characters and they always send you on a journey that you don't want to end.

Just Getting Started by Kaylee Ryan & Lacey Black is book Two in the Fair Lakes Series. This is the story of Chase and Gabby. I have read the previous book which added to my enjoyment of this one. Gabby is the sister to Gwen who we met in the first book and Chase is Harrison best friend from the first book. With that said I did feel this could be a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Chase can get any women he wants and has but he has come to a point in his life that he wants something more...and that more is Gabby. But Gabby has kept him in the friend zone but he working to get himself out of that. Gabby has always been taken by Chase but she knows he is a 'love them and leave them' guy. When Gabby ends up being homeless due to her apartment building being sold, so she is desperate for a place to stay until she finds another place. Of course Chase uses this as a opportunity to advance his goal. I enjoyed their frenemies to lovers story.

After reading the first book I was really excited to read the second book in this series!

Chase and Gabby know each other for a while now, and both are attracted to each other which they hide. Until Chase doesn’t hide it anymore and blatantly tells her. But Gabby is hesitant, because Chase is a player, or so she thinks. Can he change her mind?

This story is sexy as hell, and has some twists and turns you didn’t see coming !

I kindly received an arc and voluntarily left a review!

This is the 2nd book in this amazing series and is Gabby and Chase’s story. Gabby is Winnie’s sister from #1 and Chase is Harrison’s best friend. These two are like petrol and a match, but the undeniable chemistry between them, can they take a chance on each other? This is a beautifully written story which is humorous and entertaining which had me totally captivated throughout this riveting tale, and I highly recommend for all.

One time I would like not start a review of Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black with a WOW so I won't I will start this review with WOW WOW OMG! So settle down and make sure you have nothing else to do because once you start this book you won't want to put it down!

I loved the first book in the Fair Lakes 'Its not Over' where we were introduced to Gabby and Chase and I was so looking forward to their story and I wasn't disappointed. The two have known each other for years. Gabby believes that Chase has superpowers that he uses for evil to annoy her at ever turn! The verbal play between the two is great to read reminds of a little boy that pulls the pigtails of the girl her likes!

But underneath this there is an undercurrent of awareness of each other that has been simmering like a volcano for years but neither want to admit it as Gabby's sister is married Chases best friend and the four are close.

However, when Gabby has to move out of her apartment she ends up staying at Chases that's a story in itself- well the banter really gets going especially as they are around each other constantly both getting hot under the collar more as each day passes.

Life for these two is never dull that's for sure!

Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black are quickly become of one of my favorite duos. Their writing seamlessly blends together creating stories that capture you instantly. I’ve been dying to get my hands on Chase and Gabby’s story since they were first introduced. These two have such explosive chemistry that even as enemies you can feel hot hot those spark between them are.
Arguing really is like foreplay with them. They bicker like they’ve been married for years all while Gabby tries to hide her feelings. And let me tell you, while that would usually annoy me the banter these two have while bickering is so hilarious and filled with heat I found myself looking forward to it.
That said, once those walls come down all bets are off and Gabby and Chase become one of the greatest couples ever. Open, honest communication. True beautiful love. Respect. Kindness. They are true couple goals. Life hits them with the most unexpected curveballs and because of the level of love and trust these two have they only come out stronger for it.

Chase, a reformed playboy has decided he wants more out of life, and Gabby is hesitant to act on her feelings for chase because he's got a certain reputation. Gabby has trouble believing that chase has changed for the better, but these two have an attraction that can't be denied.

A few twists and turns have these two falling in to something that they originally avoided. THis is a well written story that gives you all kinds of feelings, and everything works out exactly the way it is supposed to. Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Beck did a great job with this co-write.

Ahhhh, Gabby and Chase’s Story was amazing! Y’all I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this series. Take two of my favorite authors and to have them decide to write a series together, is a dream come true and they absolutely didn’t disappoint!!!

I loved book one of this series, It’s Not Over. Harrison was everything, kind, sweet, patient, yet stubborn, protective, and swoon worthy. Throughout book one I read his best friend Chase as being the smart ass friend. I wasn’t even sure I liked him at times. But I found myself routing for him and Gabby in book one.

Well bring on their book (book 2) and now can I tell you that I LOVE Chase almost more than Harrison. I really enjoyed his quirky humor and his smart ass mouth, even more so when you combine it with his thoughts and feelings. His love for Gabby in this book will make you swoon and at times drop you to your knees for him.

Gabby also peaked my interest much more in this book. Her hard outside persona was nothing like her feelings and hesitant nature inside. But when push comes to shove she stepped up the the plate ten fold and was exactly what I needed her to be for Chase.

One of my favorite things about this book was how deep down Chase and Gabby had a lot in common. The scene where he takes her to his house for the first time made me swoon pretty hard for both of them.

Needless to say I absolutely loved this book. The strong family ties, the long lasting friendships that become family, and the way they just stepped in to rally when needed was amazing. I also love the humor in their books as well. This is a must read. You won’t regret it. But I do recommend reading this series in order. I actually re-read book one knowing I was getting book two soon and it was awesome to read them in order back to back. The stories just fall right into one another. And now I will patiently wait for book three, which I pray will be Colton’s (Chase’s brother) story! I am ready and anxiously awaiting to see who Lacey and Kaylee find for him!!! 💘

5 SMOOCHES!

Just Getting Started is a frenemies-to-lovers romance between Gabby and Chase. If you read the first book in the series, It’s Not Over, you got a good dose of their bickering. Gabby has some preconceived notions about Chase, and she’s convinced herself that he’s a player. Chase has had it bad for Gabby for a while, and while at one point he was every bit the ladies’ man she accuses him of being, he hasn’t been that man in a long while. Chase has seen firsthand the kind of love his friends have, and he realized that was what he wanted. He wants the wife and the family to come home to every night, and he wants it with Gabby.

Gabby is as feisty as she is fiercely loyal. Chase drives her crazy, mostly because deep down she’s very attracted to him and wishes she wasn’t. They’re stuck in this place where they’re not quite friends, but not really enemies. They’re constantly pushing each other’s buttons, and while their bantering is highly entertaining, it’s also its own kind of foreplay. Gabby is in a bad situation though, she’s stuck, and Chase seizes the opportunity to show her that he’s not the player that she thinks he is. But just like everything else between them, it isn’t smooth sailing. There’s twists and turns and bumps in their road.

I devoured Just Getting Started in a day. Gabby and Chase’s love story made my heart happy and kept me smiling the whole way through. Charming, engaging and steamy, I enjoyed everything about this story, and I can’t wait for more from these two authors. Five smooches from me for Just Getting Started by Kaylee Ryan and Lacey Black!

If you like alpha men who just won’t take no for an answer (in the good way) then Just Getting Started (Fair Lakes #2) is for you. In this book we learn more about Chase and Gabby, who we met in It’s Not Over. This book is the enemies to lovers chemistry filled story you wish for. While Gabby & Chase aren’t really enemies, they have a banter-filled relationship where Gabby blows off Chase’s advances because she thinks he’s just a playboy who flirts with everyone. However, Chase has never let Gabby see that his feelings for her are real and very deep. After all, she is his best friends little sister-in-law.⁣ ⁣

Chase was everything a man should be…kind, patient, protective, sweet and so hot. He just wanted to take care of Gabby. Gabby was sassy & smart. She will have you laughing at some of the things she says. When circumstance puts these two together you know it is only a matter of time before the sparks fly. But can they sustain a real relationship? Are they ready to handle together what life throws at them? ⁣ ⁣

This story is equally sweet and super steamy. You become invested in these characters (along with Harrison & Gwen from book #1) and really are rooting for them. The story line is interesting and there are enough twists that are on your toes the entire time wondering how this is all going to work out. Some parts of this story are so heartbreakingly beautiful that I promise you will have tears in your eyes while reading. All the feels. Just Getting Started is another great book by Kaylee and Lacey. I can’t wait to get more Fair Lakes stories from them both and continue reading about all the characters we have met so far. ⁣

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. ⁣
