Keeping You (The Ink Well Chronicles Book 3) Kindle Edition
Can I keep you?
We were only nine then, and all that mattered to us was seeing each other again.
But that all changed as we grew up.
Years of pretending like we didn’t know each other. That nothing we felt when we were younger had ever happened.
As if that question was never asked.
Who knew that it would take so long for us to figure it all out? To stop pretending and finally realize that we had been there for each other all along. It might have taken us 21 years, but it’s finally here.
And this is our story.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2019What is not to love in this story? You cannot help but feel the angst from so many missed opportunities. At the Age of 7 and 9 two souls found each other but it would be almost 2 decades of missed chances for Chase and Erica. This story tugs on your heartstrings and you cannot help but cheer along with their friends when FINALLY, they both take a chance and put their hearts on the line. Several scenes moved me to tears. I loved how the entire Ink Well founders truly became all the family they each needed. I may have started with book Three but I can guarantee I am going to enjoy reading the other books just as much.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2021Good grief. The first part will drive you insane reading year after year after year of no one communicating. Once the years become more present, finally the read flows easier and another good book of this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2019This story hit all my feels. Childhood friends Erica and Chase torn apart by Chase’s family moving. As he is leaving, he asks her “Can I keep you”
Wow! I melted right there. Two young kids that are so close. But then they come in and out of each other’s lives several times and pretended not to recognize each other?! This is the only part I had a problem with.
Over all I still enjoyed the book and I think you will also. It would be a 4.5 to me.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2019Keeping You is a good reminder about an individual’s perspective being their reality. Chase and Erica continue to dance around each other’s existence, never admitting that they remember the other, but when they have their moment, it is so beautiful! This is a perfect love story! I love the way their story came together over a span of 21 years, and even when they were apart, they were together.

This is by far my new favorite Jordan Bates book.

Let me start this review by saying that overall I did enjoy this story. It had a really nice underlying message. It had very likeable and entertaining characters. It wrapped up so sweetly that it brought a smile to my face.
But there were some parts I didn't love.
There was a frustrating lack of communication between the main characters Chase and Erica. It kind of felt like this book would have been significantly shorter had they just spoken up even one of the times they should have. Obviously that can't always happen but in this case it was just a little too much of a stretch at times. Also it felt like just when you would start to think the story might progress, it didn't for one reason or another and it made me want to throw my kindle.
At the end though I liked the finished product of this book. I would still read another book in this series and by this author. I just know this one isn't my favorite of the series or from Jordan Bates.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2019I'm a big fan of this series and this was no exception. This was the story of Chase and Erica, soul mates from the age of 7 when they met at summer camp. Two years later, Chase has to move to Savannah with his family and asks Erica "Can I keep you?" Despite crossing paths, it takes 31 years to fulfill their destiny. This is a beautifully written story, interwoven with characters from the other Inkwell Chronicles books, so it feels cozy and comforting. This is the tale of two people whose missed opportunities, bad timing and misunderstandings weaves its way into your heart and makes you smile. 😊
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2019Can I keep you? This was not only the question that Devon Sawa asked of Christina Ricci in Casper, but also what Chase asked Erica when they were just nine years old. This book really is sweet and pure, but unrealistic in my opinion. These two had known each other since they were seven and took them 20 years to find each other. Once they did though, it was perfect. They were happy, they were together all the time, never had an argument, and at the age of 28(ish) had never been with anyone else. Parts of the book were so skimmed over that it just kind of made you want to ask why. These two characters gave me a toothache. Even the secondary characters didn’t seem real. I don’t think I would recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another awesome read.
I have the other ink well books and totally loved them, but i have to say i think this was my favorite of them all. Erica and Chase loving each other since they were kids was so sweet (even though i wanted to slap them both when they refused to let each other know that they remembered ) but once all the secrets came out it was a beautiful love story. Highly recommend reading this book as well as the other ink well books.
