Father/Son #2

Different as Night and Day

Rate this book
I laid my husband to rest....

Scott was my world and my future. He loved me so much, making plans for me in the event of his death. He was after all in a war zone and the odds were high he may not come home. But now I can’t help but think about the new man in my life – my husband’s father.

Maguire creates a desire deep inside of me I never knew existed. This is more than lust. I keep on asking myself the same question. Have I fallen in love with him because he's so much like my late husband or because he's his own man? Only time will tell.

After all, you can't choose love, it chooses you.

description I'm calling this one at 50% Book one wasn't a huge hit with me, but I had hoped book two would bring on a better connection between the two mains. Unfortunately, I am not feeling anything other than boredom at this point. It happens...onwards.

I was really looking forward to the conclusion of the second book Father/Son duet by Leigh Lennon. The ending of the first book left me hanging for answers and I was excited to get started. Although once again the writing was very good this story was a little too slow for me and at times it could be repetitive, I found myself desperately waiting for something to happen.

I loved Maguire in the last book and my feelings didn't waver in this one. The man is a saint and gorgeous with it and all alpha male, he was the one person that held this book together for me. Although I tried really hard to like Holland before I found her even more irritating in this story. As much as I tried, for the life of me, I couldn't see what Maguire saw in this woman. She comes across as so immature and ungrateful, always complaining, I ended up feeling really sorry for Maguire and what he had to endure in this relationship of sorts.

The last quarter of this story certainly picked up tremendously but I felt it could have been so much better had it taken place earlier on. For me, in places, it was lacking the passion and the sensuality needed for a taboo romance, it needed a little more angst and some more intimate moments between the two of them. This would have certainly made for a better read.

However, as a duet though it is an enjoyable read, especially the first book.

Different as Night and Day is the second book in Leigh Lennon’s Father/Son duet, and to understand this one you need to have read the first book. Book one, Like Father Like Son, ends on a cliff-hanger, and this second book picks up right where it left off.

I’ll be honest and say I feared the cliff-hanger of an ending in book one would lead to a storyline that is overdone, one that would have me rolling my eyes. I was glad when such was not the case, although I’m going to be honest and say the story we were given wasn’t quite what I’d been hoping for.

There was certainly a lot packed into this one, many elements were introduced and given, but I failed to connect with any of them. There was too much, in my opinion, and none were given the focus they should have been. One or two of the elements would have been fine, but it felt like a checklist of ways to produce angst, which took away from the romance between the characters.

Not that I’d felt the romance in the first book, and the same was true in this one. I never felt the connection between the two characters, and by the end of this one I was done with our leading lady. It wasn’t quite the romance I was expecting, leaving me disappointed.

I think this is another one of those ‘it’s me, not the book’ cases. I’m sure many will enjoy this duet, but it didn’t do for me what I’d been hoping for.

If you thought you were on an emotional roller coaster with the first half of this duet, brace yourself. Leigh Lennon is about to fully blow your mind. Maguire and Holland’s story picks up right where it left off in the previous book and their ride goes nonstop until the very end. It’s brutal, it’s beautiful, it’s raw and it makes you ask yourself repeatedly if you could sacrifice a soul deep love because of the world’s standards.
There is A LOT that happens with these two and I’d never want to give a second of it away, so while I’d love to go on forever about every jaw dropping, heart breaking, powerful moment you’re going to have to trust me when I say this is an absolute must read. The slow burn continues throughout this book and that slow burn is exactly what makes Maguire and Holland so addictive to read about. As they battle with themselves and with each other that irresistible pull between them continues to just get more and more powerful.

wtf did I just read?!

holland was such a fucking pain in the ass, putting Maguire through the ringer. I personally had no problem with the relationship, I love taboo and I wish Holland would have just given in already. I get that you have a kid but seriously lady, you love the man, he loves you. ENOUGH. and what really kills me- holland receives a letter from scott, her dead husband, and he gives his blessing for their relationship. so basically, all this back and forth was settled with a letter and holland finally comes to her senses about being with maguire. i mean really? REALLY? honestly, i’d say skip this one. just read the first book. truly. ughhhhh i’m so frustrated 🤬

Leigh Lennon cuts right to the heart with this emotional, angsty, taboo love story. I loved every second of it. The characters were so broken and so much better together. There were times I was crying for them and times I was laughing with them. And then there were times I wanted to kill and throw my kindle. This storyline was so unique to anything I've ever read before. It really makes the reader question what they see as right and wrong and when is love enough to erase all the lines.  I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone!

hmm im giving 3 stars for this.. both books took me quite some time to finish. i absolutely loved the plot, and i felt that their love isn't dirty since there were times where i really feel for them both. both were broken but in the end, were the one that helped heal each other. finding love in your dead husband's father?
however, given the taboo nature of this book, it would really enhance the feelings and emotions if there were more intimate scenes between Holland and Maguire (btw thats such a sexy name..) its really good for forbidden romance lovers, but its a slow burn romance too! push and pull situations but more in the first book.

This story will rock your world in an amazing, earth shattering way. You will fall in love with Maguire, Holland, Elsie, Ned, Christine, and all the other key players will tug your heart strings. You will want to swoon (hello- Darlin’), cry, cuss, scream. So be ready. But, it is worth every emotion you feel once you get through their whole journey. It is beautiful and sweet and shows you fate can be mean and cruel, but also give you the happy ending you always wanted.

So it took me a couple days to write this review. Leigh Lennon - you are a freaking mastermind at forbidden romance!! I always love Leigh Lennon’s books- but the story of maguire and Holland is one that shows the talent of this amazing author. The amazing twists, turns, emotions, heartbreak - they all combine to give you a story that will shake you up and then set you straight by the end. I am in awe of Leigh Lennon’s ability to draw you in from where Like Father Like Son left off to the very end of this story.

I was so emotionally invested and wanted to strangle Holland half of the time because she wouldn’t ever give in to what they both wanted. But, fate has other plans and had a tendency to get in the way with these two. This tale of love, emotion, devotion and overall matters of the heart will leave you on the book hangover of the year.

Maguire and Holland’s story takes off right where it ended in Like Father Like Son. Their story is one of upset, heartbreak, loss, and seeing what is right in front of you and fighting for what you want no matter what the odds. Their story is a beautiful story of going after what the heart wants, regardless of the circumstance.

Maguire is devoted and swoon worthy (totally hot!). Holland is a devoted mother who is strong and amazing. Together, they can be destructive, but create an explosion of emotions. Their chemistry is out of this world.

This book is a must read! Go one click it today! You won’t regret it!!

3.5 stars !

Picking up from that cliffhanger, your on the edge of your seat!

Holland annoyed and frustrated me so much, And so many times I was screaming in my own head telling her to follow what her hearts telling her! But at the same time what a predicament to be in ! So you can see where she’s coming from.

The chemistry between these two in intense and theirs continuous sparks waiting to be lit! And let’s face it Maguire is hot ! Although few, the scenes where they finally give in are steamy!

But I did find I was pushing myself through it , I felt it was slow and was waiting around for things to happen but the last quarter I was hooked and I felt everything they went through!
I was left an emotional wreck and stayed up til 1:30am to finish it even through the blur of tears!
And the ending couldn’t have been more touching !

As a forbidden romance I just thought it would be a little more spicier but the story is so much more than that - outs about dealing with loss and moving on in life and in Holland’s circumstances you can imagine her guilt for what she’s feeling when it’s wrong.

But how can something be so wrong when it feels so right !?

Life’s too short. Make everything count! follow your heart ❤️

Different as Night and Day is part two of the Father/ Son duet.

Where I loved loved love Like Father Like Son I felt this one was lacking. Now dont get me wrong I did really enjoy this book, but to me it wasnt as enjoyable as book 1.

As I read there were moments where I wished we were moved past these age gap/in-law issues already. As taboo as Maguire and Holland's sorta but not relationship is, it's not really an issue for anyone but Holland. But the constant back and forth reminder was a little to much.

With that being said I still really enjoyed the book, I think it's a wonderful story. It's a beautiful slow burn, and I loved all the characters. Yes even Holland even though there were moments I wanted to hit her with my kindle I still liked her. It is a great read and i still consider it one of my favorite series of the summer.

Kindly recieved and ARC for an honest review.

I was desperately awaiting this arriving on my kindle so when it did I had to drop everything and jump straight in what a rollercoaster of emotions it sent me on. After the way book one ended I was on tenterhooks waiting to discover what would happen next.

Holland and Maguire are made for each other but because of the nature of their relationship things have been difficult. Dealing with guilt and grief is something they both need to work at if they ever stand the chance at been together.

A fantastic conclusion to this forbidden romance and a solid 5 stars for me.

The first book ended on a cliffhanger and I was eager to read what happened next. I did enjoy it but I got very frustrated and at times annoyed with McGuire and Holland! Holland for denying how she felt and giving McGuire mixed signals and him for pushing her so much! I just wanted to bang their heads together!

Holland feels guilty about having feelings for her father in law, and although she loves him she keeps trying to keep him a distance, whilst trying to date a few other men, but there is nothing more than feelings of friendship with them!

McGuire knows what he wants and that’s Holland, he loves her so much and wants her in his life with Scotland! He knows people will grown upon their relationship but he will fight for them.

On the day that Holland and Scottie are due to leave to start a new life McGuire hands her a letter from his son and her husband Scott, what she reads makes her mind up finally, she knows what she wants, but can she do it?

The first book in this exciting duo, 'Like Father, Like Son' left me desperate for more of Holland and Maguire's love story.
The tension is tangible as Maguire struggles with wanting to honor his son's memory, and loving his daughter-in-law. Holland begins to realize that while many of her late husband, Scott's lovable attributes were handed down from his father...Maguire is definitely his own man.
Holland doesn't want to admit that a man twice her age has captured her heart, not to mention all the baggage a relationship between them would carry. Plus there is the fact that everytime she becomes vulnerable to their sizzling passion, the 'Universe' reminds her its not a good idea.
Now, there is more at stake for Maguire than ever, just as Holland is more determined than ever to pull away...

Well, that sure ended how I thought it would......but what a roller coaster ride to get to the end! It was full of ups and downs, twists and turns; but at the root of it all is a story about two people who in all reality should never have been together - and couldn't help but fall in love.

The only thing that I didn't like so much about the story was Holland's mixed signals and feelings that she sent Maguire - I get the age difference played a huge factor in that, but I just wish she hadn't been so wishy washy about it.

Overall though, I really enjoyed the duet and Holland & Maguire were great together. Enjoyed the supporting characters and wouldn't mind seeing one or two of them get their own story at some point in time!

Great conclusion to Holland and Maguire's story, I'm incredibly happy with it. This duet is written in a way where the characters are easy to like, understand their thought process and reason for doing things which in turn makes it super easy to relate to them. I understood Hollands hesitation and would probably do the same however I wanted them to be happy sooner rather than later darn it. They get their HEA and it is well deserved.
There are some sad moments in this one too, moments that had me in tears.
I love the writing style and bold way this author writes. This duet is definitely one of my favorite reads of this year.

I read an arc and willingly posted my review.

I went into this book with really high expectations based on where the first book ended. I was literally on the edge at the end of Book 1 because the story was at its climax then boom we have to wait for Book 2.

Book 2 is here and from the beginning it didn’t match the energy level of where Book 1 ended. It was played down when I felt like it still needed to have that high emotion you were left waiting with.

I got the ending I was hoping for between Maguire and Holland but I felt like important pieces were left out in the story. Not just for them but in some of the secondary characters interactions with Maguire and Holland as well.

Different as Night and Day is a must read after finishing Like Father Like Son. This book picks up right after the ending if the first book and does not disappoint. The emotions you go through while reading this angst of all angsts book runs the gamut from happy to sad to angry to unexpected. Leigh Lennon does a wonderful job of pulling the reader in to this story that questions love, and without spoiling the story I'll leave it at that. Just know that this book is just as exciting as the first and well worth the read!

Ok for starters, Mr. M is hot, what's not to love. He loves Holland so much it hurts. Holland has her ups and downs, meaning that she loves but not want to. Confused she is. But I can't give nothing away. A few hot steaming sex in this book, but it flows well. I give it all 🌟 because Leigh Lennon thought long and hard about this book. This book as no cliffhangers. I was thinking I would like to see another book about a few more characters and their stories....

Holy cow, this story deserves 10 stars it’s THAT good!!

We were left on the cliff at the end of Like Father Like Son and this picks up from there. Holland hasn’t had the easiest year and it’s about to get harder but how long can she keep fighting her true feelings before finally giving in??

Leigh Lennon brings every emotion out with her writing, this is truly a masterpiece. I love the series and the way it concluded. 🖤🖤

Angsty

This was sooooo hard to read. This is not a fun, happy read. This is a portrayal of a hard fought love. There are few pleasant conversations and lots of guilt. The epilogue is great and the HEA is extremely difficult for Holland and Maguire to reach. Well written and worth the read.

After the major cliffhanger in book 1, Maguire and Holland find their happily ever after through all the sadness they have endured. This duet was good although both books could use more depth and a bit better flow at times.

I am sure you know, this is part two in the series, part one ends in a cliffhanger. I have to say, “I hate cliffhangers.” The only thing that saves this from making me crazy, is Kindle Unlimited. Because, I could get both books at the same time, and read straight through. I have to say, I am not disappointed, with the results.

Can they stay away from what is meant to be, or will tragedy mar their future? Maguire’s son, who is Holland's husband is killed, in action. Scott asks his dad, to care for, Holly. But, what happens when their hearts fall, for one another? Well, it is a tug of war between emotions and each other. This, in fact, was making me crazy with, Holly, but then I have to remember her age and her hormones and emotions are playing havoc with her body.

She has been dealing with Scott, Maguire, Scotland, Elise, and then all the additional cast of characters in between. Teagan, Josh, Jase, Evan, Ned, Kat, and Christine. Don't want to say too much to give too much away. I liked the ending and that Maguire never stopped believing.

Book two of the Father Son Duet, continues where book 1 finishes. While I did enjoy this book as much as the first one, the FMC was starting to irritate me in the last 1/4 of the book. Maguire is the perfect dominating silver fox!

I couldn’t start this book quick enough after finishing, LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON. After the ending we got in book 1, I knew I would devour DIFFERENT AS NIGHT & DAY. And I sure as heck did. I inhaled it in one day.

The slow burn wasn’t nearly as slow as book 1. Things definitely heat up and get rather interesting between both Maguire and Holland pretty quickly. But that’s just the start. Not only do things get interesting, they get majorly complicated. Holland is tormented by her past and the decisions she has made, which seems to further complicate things.

Loved every second of this story. Even the times that seemed repetitive concerning Holland. Because even in those times, progress was made between them. Absolute must read duet. 5 Stars

I liked this taboo story. Teddy Hamilton & Charlotte North did a great job narrating. One thing that was weird was the language that Holland (Heroine) used throughout the book. She cursed plenty. But also would throw out odd things like.... H E double toothpicks (Instead of Hell) , you scared the shiitake out of me, flip flop wolly wap and poop wrapped up in a hot dog bun.

An Enjoyable Duet

What's the best treatment for whiplash? Can I send Holland my doctor's bills? Poor Maguire had to work for it for sure. So, to summarise the story...lots of drama and a lovely ending.
