Wallowing in grief for too long can be hazardous. It’s why I allowed my brother to talk me into accepting a new client.
Our security firm needed the money, and the endorsement from a famous director could steer our company to new heights.
Then his daughter walked in, the woman I’d be assigned to, and I knew I’d made a huge mistake.
She was a spoiled socialite who only cared about herself.
She pushed every button I had, frayed every last nerve.
I said things I wasn’t proud of.
I pushed the boundaries of propriety.
But how else was I supposed to protect her from the threats against her family when she insisted on being reckless?

I'm an indie author who grew up with a love of reading and a very active imagination, never putting pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard until 2013.

I typically write romantic suspense, as I love stories with some twists and turns. I also love my HEA, although the road to get there is quite the journey.

The Assignment by S. Nelson is the First book in the Massey Security Duet.
Owen and Ford Massey are Ex-Marines who have went forward to open a Security Company. The brother's have agreed to take on Walter Dessoye as a client. Mr. Dessoye is a famous director who has received threats on his family. So Owen and Ford are to be security detail for his daughters Emily and Cara. Owen who is more the easy going brother of the two is assigned Emily who is a quiet, by the book girl who like to help out a charities. Ford who is the more uptight, by the book, no patience for the unruly things or people has to be security for Cara. Cara changed from the sweet girl to the party girl who is into everything and doesn't want to be monitored nor appreciates her fathers security detail...Ford. Cara just wants to live her life and starts to push at Fords nerves to retaliate. In this book it sets up the tone of relationship and in the next book I would think would lead to more romance in their relationship.
This book doesn't finish their story so we will be getting another installment shortly...I can't wait. Ms. Nelson is one of my go to authors. I can never put her books down and always looking for more from her.

I received this ARC from the author.

I haven’t read anything else by this author, though I want to, so I was going in blind and taking a chance on someone new to me with a book that sounded amazing. All expectations and more were met!!

Ford and Owen Massey are hired to do high-profile security for the fraternal twin daughters of a rich man who has been receiving threats. Until all is fixed, he wants his daughters protected all the time.

The best part of this book is the characters. Ford and Owen are on opposite ends of the personality scale. While both can be stoic, Ford brings the word to a whole new level. He doesn’t want to do the job at all, especially after meeting the girls. He’s strict and just wants things to be smooth and safe. Owen has the same beliefs, but he’s able to relax and seem like more than just a bodyguard. While the brothers are opposites in some personality traits, the sisters are beyond different. Emily is quiet, follows the rules, and is just interested in doing her charity work. She doesn’t like the idea of bodyguards, but can understand her father and lives with it for the time being. Cara is the party girl--drugs, alcohol--she’s insistent on not listening to her father, insistent on all things just being fine as they are; she’s rude, bratty, stubborn and seemingly only cares about herself. Won’t take long to guess which sister is paired with what brother…

You guessed correct. Ford, while forced into the job is also forced to be with Cara. Cara who wants nothing to do with the bodyguard thing as is, wants Owen to watch her but after a quick order from Daddy, is stuck with Ford. See how that played out? Stubborn personality paired with explosive while the two quiet ones get to be together on the sidelines, holding back their prospective sibling.

My second favorite part of this book is the banter. It’s hilarious in an “oh my goodness” way. Cara does everything and anything to annoy Ford and cause him to lash out, which then turns back around on her and makes her more pissed off. Although I loved it, as a reader, I think sometimes they went a little too far. Moments where the guy she’s hanging around with is clearly not the threat, but Ford reacts and will literally physically remove the guy from her presence. So sometimes, I don’t blame her for getting riled up--I would too. On the other hand though, she pushes his buttons a bit too far sometimes that almost makes me hate her.

Almost being the key word there, though. Because under the facade is a sweet girl who just wants to live her life and be a clothing designer. We do see hints of her sweetness a couple times, and only for a brief moment when she’s really done something she knows was her fault and feels bad. I suspect in book 2 we’ll see a lot more of that Cara unfold. So this goes back to why I love these characters. On the outside, she is a brat, but underneath it all, we do see a real person there. And there is a reason for his overly protectiveness, outside his job and jealousy; I just won’t say anything about it to avoid spoilers.

What can I say about the romance? Oh, there wasn’t really any...yet. There was hints of it coming though. I think that’s another reason why I enjoyed this book so much. I went into it thinking that eventually they’d get together. Knowing there's a sequel I figured something big would happen to her and now we get to read him saving her as a boyfriend and a paid guard. Or that it would be the rest of the story from the sister’s POV. But they didn’t at all. In fact, all they had was one kiss. But I am not knocking any stars off for this because I loved it as a result. The fact that they didn't start a romance is great. Why? Because the banter continued between them while seeing her walls slowly get knocked down. She’s a job for him, but slowly becoming more. She’s realizing what a pain she is to his job. All while the attraction is building, building, building...so hot...and will explode eventually. When it does, it’s because this duet did not rush the romance. It’ll be better because there was a slow build to it while they are connecting (in the only ways they know how to).

Also, Owen and Emily. You can’t tell me they haven't’ kissed yet. I can’t wait to see that play out either.

Lastly, that ending. I was surprised, but I suspect this is just a test he made for her to make her see the point in all he is doing. Also because I don’t foresee this book taking a turn into the dark romance side.

This is a great book and I am so happy to have had the chance to read it prior to release date. I love the slow build romance, the characters, the banter...just everything this book has to offer. I can’t wait for book 2!

What’s better than a man forced to do a job he doesn’t want with a girl who feels the same way! Ford and Cara start off hating each other which of course makes for a great read. The back and forth makes a great page turner!

The Assignment by S. Nelson is the first part of a duology. The author is new to me, and, fortunately, her work did not disappoint.
Owen and Ford are brothers who own and operate a security firm. They are hired by a wealthy movie producer as protection detail for his two daughters because he has received threats against his family.
Owen, the sober of the two, is basically in charge of the security firm. He keeps it afloat. Ford is grief stricken due to a recent death, and he drowns his sorrows in alcohol. Left to his own devices, Ford would waste away in a dark room. Owen pushes Ford out of the hole he's in, and persuades him to take the security job. It's good money for the security firm. Ford grudgingly agrees to take the job.
The girls needing protection are fraternal twins, Emily and Cara, daughters of a wealthy movie producer. These two definitely differ.
Emily is kind, understanding and philanthropic. She's not thrilled about a bodyguard but realizes the necessity. Owen is assigned to Emily. These two disremember themselves and possibly become closer than a professional relationship warrants. Owen better tread carefully because his security firm is at stake, and if he makes an innapproriate decision, both he and Ford will lose their jobs.
Cara is self centered, careless and outlandish. She is a natural party girl. Ford is assigned to Cara, much to his chagrin. Cara is rebellious against the idea of a bodyguard and vocal about her feelings. Ford is reminded by Cara, at every opportunity, that she doesn't want him there. He, however, remains stoic and takes his job seriously in the face of adversity. A few sparks may fly, but they just can't get along.
As stories go, this one is a bit formulaic in the love hate relationship between Ford and Cara and the we really like each other but we shouldn't relationship between Owen and Emily.
Despite this, the story is engaging and just ticks away the time until, suddenly, it's the last page. And..when is the next part available? I'm dying here!
The author overcomes the typical subtypes to make this story unique, refreshing and thoroughly engrossing. It's well written with snappy dialogue, memorable characters and just enough mystery and drama, with a big twist, to be complex but not too heavy.
I enjoyed most aspects of the story. I was entertained and enthralled as the plot unfolded. I felt sympathetic toward the characters and invested in their outcomes because they felt realistic. That's not to say they are all likeable, though-specifically Cara. She is truly frustrating and needs a reality check. Perhaps part two of the series might redeem her a bit? And, give some clarity to that twist?!

I received this book as an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review

Let me start with this ends in a cliffhanger, BUT the second book will be out July 8th so you won't have to wait long to get the answers you will desperately want.
The beginning of the book really pulled me in, I was into the direction that it was going, but it started to get a little long winded. Just as I was thinking that I needed to get to the suspense the book takes off. The sexual tension is through the roof and the end is going to leave you with your jaw on the floor. When I was finished the only thing I was thinking was "Is it July yet?"

The Assignment by S.Nelson
Ford and Owen run their own security firm. They have been hired to look after fraternal twin daughters. Their father is a wealthy film director who has been receiving on-going threats about his family. The daughters, Cara and Emily are extremely different, just like the two brothers. Ford is not happy he has landed up babysitting Cara and she is equally not happy about her lifestyle being monitored. After all, she is the wild and crazy party girl. Will she push Fords buttons to the extreme? And can Ford handle this rich, spoilt brat or does he see the truth the lies beneath her persona? Owen and Emily seem to have managed to make friends with one another, or is there a something more going on? The story has plenty of banter between the characters. Cara is definitely a difficult character to like but you know deep down that something has happened to her and you are hoping she can redeem herself. Ford is strict and takes his job seriously, even though Cara seems to be getting under his skin. There is a love-hate attraction between them. The chemistry is building and ready to explode or is it? If you are a fan of Ms Nelson work, you will be thrilled to see some of the Knights Corruption pop up here and there in this story. Be warned we are left on a cliff hanger with a plot twist you did not see coming. Who is playing whom? Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed this new series and cannot wait for the second book.

S. Nelson has seriously surprised me with this book. It was addictive and intriguing. I did not expect this. What I did expect was a stand-offish hero forced to be a bodyguard to a spoilt rich girl and later after getting to know her, falling madly in love. Okay, so the character summarizations were basically correct but that was not where the story went.

Ford Massey has just recently lost someone he dearly loved and is buried six feet under grief and guilt. He rather spend his time locked up in his apartment drinking himself into a stupor but he is forced into an assignment by his brother. They have security firm and their latest client requires them to protect his two daughters. Ford gets the unruly wild child. He can’t stand her and the same can be said about Cara Dessoye. She does not want a person sticking to her like a shadow 24/7. Everything is being monitored by this aloof guy who doesn’t have any problem showing his disdain for her. She can’t also hide the contempt from her voice every time she utters a word to him. Being stuck together is torture. She tries to rile him up every chance she gets and also makes his job difficult. The same can’t be said about his brother and her sister. They get along great. Cara’s twin is the complete opposite of her in every way. If only Ford’s job was as easy and pleasing as his brothers.

Cara is so b*tchy to Ford. She pushed his buttons every single time. She is not a character many people might like but I did like her. She obviously has a reason why she is the way she is but we haven’t found out the reason yet. Ford on the other hand was rude and mean to her. He was a complete a**hole. I know Cara’s behavior warrants his actions but I still hated him at times for the way he treated her and the hurtful things he said. There was no love lost between them in this book. I hope the second book is juicier and I’m also hoping for a lil bit of groveling because that cliffhanger has me reeling. I was totally blindsided. I need the next book like right now! *bawling my eyes out here*

S. Nelson never disappoints when it comes to a suspenseful read!

If you're looking for an angst-filled read, then go ahead and one-click this one! The Assignment has that slow-burn feel to it, but that's only because of the buildup that S. Nelson has carefully put together as brothers, Owen and Ford, set out to protect their latest clients' twin daughters, Cara and Emily. The two of them couldn't be more opposite and Owen and Ford are in for a bumpy ride, especially where Cara is concerned.

Cara, being the unruly twin, puts Owen to the test in more ways than one. Even though there is obvious tension between the two, there's no denying the intensity that the story is centered around. You can feel the story mounting, and while The Assignment does end in a cliffhanger, you can't help but feel your mouth hanging open, needing to know how it's all going to play out. I'm almost tempted to go back and read this first part all over again just to savor everything that happens.

So, whether you're a suspenseful romance reader or not, I believe S. Nelson is going to pleasantly surprise you. This is drama at its finest and you'll be on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

Holy Cow!!!!! This book was AMAZING!!!! From start to finish I was hooked and dying to know what was going to happen next. I absolutely loved these characters and was drawn right into the story line.

This book starts out intense and heartbreaking. Right away we are thrown into a tragic moment in Ford's life and this really helps to understand why he is the way he is when dealing with Cara.

This book really does have it all. There is great chemistry between the characters and the banter between them had me laughing out loud. Ford and his brother are definitely complete opposites, which can also be said about Cara and Emily. This really makes for some hilarious situations when two opposites collide as well as some serious ones.

This book really did have me on the edge of my seat until the very end. And let me tell you, the way this book ended had me dying to get my hands on the next book in this series. I have to know how things are going to play out!

A must read book for sure! By Alisa

Ford Massey is still trying to deal with the death of his sister when his brother, Owen, rips him from the clutches of depression to work a security detail. If Ford had known it was for a big producer's daughters he would've turned it down. Emily is sweet and volunteers for charities. Her twin sister Cara is a bitchy socialite who has made more than her fair share of drama on social media. Ford is protecting the conceited socialite. She likes to push his buttons. A third threat and a trip to California for the twins 25th birthday could all be disaster. You'll have to read it to find out! This story ends in a cliffhanger, so if you don't like those then wait until July to read the duet.

I have to say I had a really hard time getting into this book. I just hated Cara. I feel like the book could've been a lot shorter and still told the story. So, I'm giving The Assignment 3.5 stars.

Buy this book right now! S Nelson has created a delicious, forbidden, enemies to lovers romance that grabbed ahold of me from the first few pages and I'm still thinking about it! At first, I wasn't sure I would like Cara's character, but as the story progressed we get glimpses that Cara has secrets that no one knows and reasons for the way she behaves. I can't wait to find out what those reasons are! And Ford, he was absolutely sex on a stick! The tension between Ford and Cara had my whole body clenching up waiting for it to explode. The storyline was fast paced and easy to follow. I am absolutely dying at the cliffhanger ending. I need to know what happens right now!

The Assignment is book one in the Massey Security duet. Wallowing in grief, Ford gets talk into taking on a new client. Taking on a famous director's high profile and reckless daughter is a challenge within itself. This book is a wild, steamy ride that will leave you hanging and wanting more. I'm definitely interested to see what happens next with Ford and Cara.

This is the first book in a duet. Brother’s Ford and Owen are hired security for a high profile case as there are threats issued. Emily and Cora are twin sisters, and as opposites as can be just like the two brothers. Ford is a strict rule abider, and Cara drives him to distraction with her rule breaking. This is a well written flawless story which is intense and with twists. This story does end with a cliff-hanger, and I for one cannot wait to read the second part. I highly recommend this talented authors’ work for all.

When I read this book I was wondering why I don’t read this author more because her writing is fantastic! There are so many twists and turns in this book it kept my head on a swivel. The chemistry between Ford and Cara is explosive but Ford is kept on his toes dealing with Cara’s partying. I can’t wait to see what happens next between Cara and Ford!

The Assignment by S. Nelson is the 1st book in the Massey Security Duet. Ford and Owen Massey run their own security firm and have been hired to handle high profile security for a famous movie producer's 24 year old twin daughters, Emily and Cara.
In book 1, we get Ford and Cara's story. Ford is assigned to Cara who was considered the spoiled brat while Emily was considered the good twin. Ford has to constantly be on watch, protecting Cara from her bad habits which gets him to thinking what made her act up and out like this ? There are twists and turns, things that will make the reader sit up and go hmmm. The chemistry between Cara and Ford was good. I didn't like some of the things he said to her so strongly ..when he thought she was just a party girl. I hope she really makes him grovel before all is said and done. This book ends on one heck of a cliffhanger and book 2 will pick up where all the action left off. This is a really good read that has sizzle and suspense so I can't wait to see how everything ends up between Cara and Ford.

Another entertaining read by S. Nelson.
Ford Massey is still reeling from the tragic loss of his sister when he is sent on a new assignment. Along with his brother, he’s the security for two sisters who are under threat. It is unfortunate that the sister Ford is assigned is a famous socialite, A.K.A. spoiled rich diva. So much for the low profile job he was hoping for!

Protecting Cara requires controlling Cara. Something in which even her parents haven’t found success. Cara lives life as she wants.

“Tell me to do something and I’d go to extremes to do the opposite. That had been my mantra for as long as I could remember.”

Following orders isn’t her style. Ford can watch all he likes, but that is not going to stop her partying and reckless ways. But unfortunately, for her, Ford is the one person who seems to see past the persona she puts forth.

“I wanted to bait him, argue with him, but not like this. He saw too much of me, and I didn’t like it. Not one bit. I wasn’t in control of the situation.”

The chemistry between the two boils hot.

“A flutter of want swirled in my belly. A longing I hadn’t known existed erupted inside me.”

But their personalities are like oil and water. Ford is a brooding bastard, not easy to read and keeps his secrets closely guarded. Cara is a master at reading and manipulating people. For the first time Cara has found someone she not only can’t read, but she can’t fool. It bothers her and she doesn’t know how to handle it.

“The man infuriated me like no other, yet, I was crazy attracted to him.”

In this first book Cara is presented as a very self-absorbed, crass person. She’s rude and disrespectful to everyone. There are hints throughout the story that lead you to believe there was some kind of childhood trauma that may be at the root of all of her behaviors. To be honest, I really struggled to like Cara. She would start to worm her way in and then do something off putting yet again. I just couldn’t get past it. The story had lots of sexual tension, but I couldn’t get into it because I REALLY didn’t like Cara. I think the author presented her to be an unlikable person on purpose so that in book two we can witness a miraculous turn around and have a larger appreciation of Cara’s growth. I’m actually looking forward to that.

There are several similarities between Cara and Ford’s sister in their self-destructive behaviors. If Ford can save Cara maybe he can finally forgive himself for not being able to save his sister.
Both Ford and Cara and emotionally broken and aching in their own ways to be healed. I am looking forward to book two to see if they finally get the resolution they desperately need.
S. Nelson created a tension filled story with intriguing characters and a suspenseful cliff hanging ending! I’m eagerly awaiting book two!

I read an ARC of this story. My honest and fair review is voluntary.

A story of a spoiled rich girl who does what she wants without considering anyone else’s feelings or the consequences of her actions, and a man who has lost someone dear to him and is dealing with that loss in his own way. Is there more to Cara than what is seen on the outside? Has something happened to make her the way she is?

Cara Dessoye is a spoiled rich girl who is need of protection because she is the daughter of a well-known and highly sought-after producer. She has a twin Emily who is her complete opposite. While Cara is all about the fun and partying constantly, Emily is all about charity and helping those less fortunate. They couldn’t be more different if they tried.

Ford Massey is a retired Marine who opened his own security business with his younger brother, Owen, also a retired Marine. After a tragic loss, Owen is left to run the business on his own and tried to pull Ford out of his self-imposed exile and back to the land of the living. Owen has taken a job with a high-profile family and needs Ford to come back to work and be on his best behavior. Little do either man know that this job will test Fords resolve daily.

I got so into this book that I did not realize I was at the end until I read the last line and then I was so disappointed that it ended. This story is intriguing, stressful, and wonderful. I love Ford and want so much more of this broody man. He is distant, aloof, broody, and very sexy. I do have to warn you that there is a cliff hanger in this book, one which will leave you speechless. I need the next book so that I can figure out what is going on. I loved how Ms. Nelson led me into this story and kept me interested only to drop a bomb on me at the end of the book. This story was so well written, and the characters were so animated that I felt as if I were in the story watching everything unfold. I can’t wait for the next book in this duet.

I give this story a 5-star review and highly recommend it to readers who like suspense, ex-military, and men who think they are in control only to find that they have no clue what the heck is going on.

First let me say, OH MY HELL! Yeah, I'm wrecked by that ending that I won't get into whatsoever, but am still messed up over! S. Nelson is so EVIL for that, as she definitely went out of her way to TRY AND KILL ME DEAD, so yeah, she's on the list of authors TRYING TO KILL ME DEAD, and hash tagged FOREVER, #EW (can't use the actual word anymore for lady of the night because it won't be published, so use your imaginations as I mean it with all of my heart!) Basic rundown, brothers Ford & Owen have their own security company, but Ford is wallowing in some heavy demons at the moment. When Owen lands a big job, he gets Ford to agree, but he doesn't know it's to watch a couple of twins in a wealthy family, and Ford gets the difficult twin, Cara. And when I say difficult, I mean Cara is selfish & self-centered to the extreme, and she drove me nuts. That's not something you will usually see me saying about a heroine, because I'm all about girl power. They really can't stand each other, but Ford has to shadow her to keep her safe, and Cara goes out of her way to make his life a living hell. This isn't romantic at all, as it's slow burn as hell, I mean, yeah they have sparks, but right now, Ms. Nelson is really developing everything very well. Plus, it's suspense at it's finest, so there's twists popping up, as my f-bombs are starting to drop, all the way to the biggest one of all at the end! That one deserved not just the mother of all f-bombs, but colorful metaphors as well. And now the wait begins for the conclusion, and I'm dying inside, because I NEED ANSWERS NOW NOW NOW! Anyway, that's all from me because I'm still pissy about that ending, and don't want to reveal what it was by accident on another rant! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This was my first read from the author, so I was going in blind, don't know what to expect. But this sounded amazing and it does exceed my expectation.

The Massey brothers were hired to do high-profile security for the fraternal twin daughters of a rich man who has been receiving threats. Until all is fixed, he wants his daughters protected all the time. They were each appointed to each daughter. And Ford was to protect the spoiled brat, Cara, instead of the good daughter, Emily.

Ford and Cara, as you would expect, totally opposites personality wise. Cara had a very successful upbringing because of how successful her father is. But something happened to her that caused her to drive herself to destruction. She is now the party girl--drugs, alcohol--she’s insistent on not listening to her father, insistent on all things just being fine as they are; she’s rude, bratty, stubborn and only cares about herself. Totally opposite of her twin sister, Emily. But behind all this facade, she knows was her fault and feels bad. I know for sure, her real self will unfold in the next book.

Ford, the brooding gorgeous bodyguard, that has to keep Cara in line until the threat against her family is resolved. Ford was wallowing in grief for so long that he became stoic and strict. He didn't want to have anything to do with Cara, except to protect her from their family threats.

Cara does everything and anything to annoy Ford and cause him to lash out, which then turns back around on her and makes her more pissed off. Although I loved it but sometimes I thought that she had gone too far with it. Moments where the guy she’s hanging around with is clearly not the threat, but Ford reacts and will literally physically remove the guy from her presence. Obviously this would piss her off.

There really is no romance in this book, then again I know it'll be in the second book. So this book ends with a cliffhanger, which sucks, but I can't wait to know what really happened after that ending.

ARC was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

Wallowing in grief for too long can be hazardous. It is why I allowed my brother to talk me inot accepting a new client. Our security firm needed the money, and the endorsement from a famous director could stter our company to new heights. Then his daughter walked in, the woman I'd be assigned to, and I knew I'd made a huge mistake. She was a spoiled socialite who only cared about herself. She pushed every button i had, frayed every last nerve. I said things I wasn't proud of. I pushed the bondaries of propriety. But how was I supposed to protect her from the threats against her family when she insited on being reckless?

The Assignment is the first book in the Massey Security Duet. Here you meet Ford and Own who run their own security firm. Their current assignment is to look after fraternal twin daughters of a famous director who is receiving open ended threats about his family. The twins, Cara and Emily are good gosh beyond difficult to deal with. To say that Ford is not happy that he ended up babysitting Cara is a understatment. She too is not happy that her life is being monitored as she enjoys being the wild and crazy party girl. These two about drive each other nuts. They have a love hate attraction that will keep you turning the pages to find out what happens between these two. I will tell you since this is a duet that you are looking at a cliff that has a huge twist and will have you wanting the next book asap. I can not wait to read that one to find out what happens.

The Assignment by S. Nelson did not disappoint in the slightest! It was a thrilling read full of sexual tension, and a tension of another kind.

This book was all focus on the story. Thre was nudity and sexual tension in the book, but didn't go beyond that. I loved that because I got to know the characters more, but somehow without giving anything away. The author was very clever with how she wrote the book. It was incredibly smart.

The book also deals with sensitive issues such as addiction. It looks into the negative aspects of addiction, but mysteriously why it has happened. It is dealt in a realistic but sensitive way.

I loved the characters! They were all incredible. At some point, I was getting very annoyed with Cara and seemingly understood Ford's frustration, but I also got an inkling that there was a deeper reason as to why she was the way she was, just the same with Ford (sans the annoyance). Cara's character took a bit of time to love, but the other characters, such as Ford, Owen and Emily, etc. were just so easy to love and I can't wait to see more of them!

As for the cliffhanger... shame on you! just kidding, but I am on the edge of my seat from that ending. I mean, WOW! Was not expecting that at all.

The Assignment is the perfect book for you if you're looking for a thriller read with A LOT of sexual tension and attraction. It's an exciting read, and an addictive one at that. I am so ready for book two. I can't wait! So freaking awesome!

Warning: This is a definite cliffhanger? How could you do this to us? I need to know what happens now!

Ford and Owen Massey owned their own security services firm, Massey Security Inc., while not a big firm they had a stellar reputation. After experiencing a personal trauma Ford literally fell apart but was pulled back into the job by Owen to help protect some high profile clients, one with a very big attitude too!

Cara and Emily Dessoye, twin sisters, are the new clients but both extremely different. Cara, although a self-absorbed, carefree, partying and reckless young woman is hiding something from her past, something that changed her into this persona and makes you want to know what it is and how she can be helped. Emily is a sweetheart but I’m wondering if she is as sweet as she seems?

Ford appears to be a gruff, no-nonsense professional man but there is definitely much more to his character and like Cara you find yourself itching to know more and the desire to help. Owen is a much softer man and extremely likeable. Ford and Cara together make a great match, well they would if they ever really got together.

The story seemed to go on and on, a little stretched out for my liking but then-bang the end was all action and excitement, with even more mystery and intrigue thrown in. I am so looking forward to the second book to find out what is going on, although at times I felt the pace slowed a tad the ending more than makes up for it.

Gah!!! I have to say I was so pissed when I got to the end of this book, but then I said to myself, that is one of the best books I’ve read this year! Cara is a snotty brat on the outside coming across as a carefree, selfish, socialite but she’s simmering inside from her past, just waiting to break. Ford has hit rock bottom and he’s a complete mess until he gets himself together to take an assignment with his brother for a very wealthy family as security for two sisters. He doesn’t want to take this job because he despises women that act as if they’re entitled. Cara doesn’t need anyone watching after her, she can take care of herself.

The constant push and pull between Cara and Ford causes so much sexual tension it’s radiating off the pages! Both are stubborn and hard headed, neither willing to back down. There’s a constant mystery behind both Cara and Ford in the background just waiting to unravel at any moment. Cara’s antics will keep you on edge just waiting to see what she has up her sleeve next. Ford doesn’t back down but she still rattles him to the bone.

I was blindsided completely and still in utter shock as to where this book was going and I’m so excited to see where the next book in the series will go. This is my first read by S. Nelson but definitely not my last! I’m ready to devour some more of her wonderful work! July isn’t coming soon enough!

Wow. This is one of those books that grips you from the start and doesn't let up. Ford and Owen Massey are hired to protect the twin daughters of a famous Hollywood producer who's been receiving threats. Ford is assigned to Cara, while Owen will protect Emily. While Emily is a good girl who works with charities and doesn't give her parents any grief, Cara is the exact opposite - throwing tantrums, drinking and doing drugs, and doing everything she can to ditch her bodyguard.

The last thing Ford wants is to babysit a spoiled brat. He's still grieving the loss of a loved one, and he just wants to walk away. But he gets glimpses of the real Cara underneath the party girl facade, and she hints that something terrible happened to her as a teenager which changed her as a person (I have my theories about what that is, and hope all will be revealed in book two).

The attraction between Owen and Emily appears to be instantaneous and mutual, but Ford and Cara are completely different. It is very much a slow burn, the attraction there but neither willing to take a chance on it. It wouldn't be professional, and Ford needs to have his head in the game if he's to keep Cara safe. They do nothing but kiss in this first book, and then when Cara is kidnapped at the end, the identity of the kidnapper will leave you speechless.

This is a well written romantic suspense with complex characters and a storyline that will keep you guessing. I can't wait to read book two!

4/5 stars! What a seductive, infuriating, stoic read about socialite twin sisters who need security detail due to threats to their family and the sexy brothers who are hired for the job.

The sexual tension between Ford and Cara in this read could be cut with a knife! I didn’t know whether I wanted them to give into each other and get it over with or battle to the death! They were so wrong for each other, but something between them was so palpable and right!

This book was a relatively easy “romance” read, with underlying tones of suspense and conflict. It was filled with angst and drama and just the right amount of temptation and sexuality. Cara’s reckless behavior left me feeling sorry for her from whatever trauma she was desperately trying to mask with her wide ways. Ford held his professional ground but there was so much more to the man that he kept locked up behind those shades. I can’t wait for these two characters to unravel a bit more and show their true intentions!

And that cliffhanger ending had me with wide eyes and a gasp on my lips! What a way to end the first book of this series and leave the reader stunned and demanding more! The entire read I was looking for clues that would possibly reveal who the threat was! Everyone was a suspect in my mind and I loved the read that much more because of the lack of obvious fault!

Overall, the book was well written. For me, it started off a little slow because there are a few unknown issues for one of the main characters that aren't explained, at least...in this book. Cara, in my opinion, irked me for most of the book until she decided to try to be a little nicer to Ford. She's a spoiled brat who loves to party, get drunk, and do drugs, and she treats Ford like crap. When she finally started to make a slight change, I started to like her more. Ford, he was really broody, but that's understandable after the death of his sister who had an addiction problem and now he has to watch over Cara who is following the same road that his sister did. The tension between them (both sexual and non-sexual) was palpable throughout the book, and through most of it I just wanted to yell at them to kiss already! The book ends with a cliffhanger--after all, it is part one of a duet--but hopefully I read Ford's character correctly and he isn't the type of person that would flip to the "dark side". I already really enjoyed how S. Nelson tied in a few Knights Corruption characters, I love those guys. The deeper I got into this book, the more I wanted to know more about the characters backstories and to see the relationship develop between Ford and Cara. July can't get here soon enough for part two to come out because I need to know what happens!

This being my first read from this author I was pleasantly surprised. The story was good the characters were realistic. The situation was believable.

Cara played the part of the snooty rich know it all daughter of a well known movie director. If the author was trying to get me to hate her well she did a great job. She was so obnoxious and self centred I wanted to yell at her for being so immature.
I don’t know how Ford put up with her. I would have shot her myself lol.

Ford the brooding gorgeous security detail that has to keep Cara in line until the threat against her family is resolved.

I would have stabbed my self in the eye repeatedly if I had to deal with this chick. He isn’t a gift to deal with either but at least he has a reason.

Good story line. Ends in a cliffhanger though... can’t wait to read what happens next!

S. Nelson never disappoints and The Assignment is no different. It has twists and turns, a great storyline and characters that pull you in. Ford and Cara are relentless and explosive. The ending was a cliffhanger leaving me on the edge and I am cursing you S. Nelson! But in a good way! We won't have to wait long for the next instalment and I can't wait! Thanks for another amazing read.

Wow, just wow 😮

S Nelson is by far one of my favourite authors as her books always keep you on the edge of your seat and in massive anticipation❣️This book definitely fulfilled those criteria that I’ve come to expect from her.

Ford and his brother are hired by a renowned wealthy director to look after his two daughters when threats are made against him. However, both daughters are like night and day that is to say Emily is less trouble and her sister, Cara seems to be the one pushing ALL boundaries. This book takes on a life of its own and yes, I’m cursing you S Nelson for that ending but I can’t wait to see where you take it either😍

Fantastic to see some old favourites as well in this one💕 A big thank you to S Nelson for my advanced copy for which I leave my honest review.
