Brides on the Run #4

Running After a Heartbreaker

Rate this book

“This is a bad idea.”

“The worst.” He placed his hands under her butt and lifted. “Should I stop?”

“I’ll murder you if you do.”

Hailey Odom’s life is out of tune. The bar she owns with her father is a Texas-sized money pit that she has four months to save. Her mean as a snake ex-husband is breaking their daughter’s heart daily. And the town of Zachsville hates her guts for something that was only fifty percent her fault.

And oh, right, she just ran out on her own wedding.

Beau Callen’s life is hitting all the right notes. Dubbed “The Heartbreaker” by his adoring female fans, he’s living the country music stardom dream. At least until an “altercation” lands half his band in jail and the other half in the hospital, this rising star could use a temporary place to crash.

The last thing Hailey or Beau needs is a scorching hot romance messing with their plans. So when Hailey rents Beau her backyard guesthouse and passions blaze hotter than the Texas sun, their dreams are in serious danger of going up in flames.

To make it all work, they’ll have to keep their hands off each other and their eyes on the prize. Too bad their hearts are singing a different tune.

Don’t miss Running After a Heartbreaker—A hilarious friends-to-lovers, sexy musician with a heart of gold, determined single mom, small-town swoony romance.

I'm a born and raised Texas girl and am the multiple award-winning author of The Brides on the Run series--a fun, sexy, snarky, laugh-out-loud good time. If you don’t snort with laughter, then I haven’t done my job.

I'm also a wife, mother, and an actress/comedian. I used to think I could sing until someone paid me to stop. I took their money and kept on singing.

I love my family, all things Outlander, and puppies make me stupid happy. I can be found on Sundays during football season watching my beloved Houston Texans and trying not to let them break my heart.

Such a sad story... A weak woman, who had a crush on a huge manwhore, who slept around after meeting her. Only his dialogue with his disturbing friend, how cool it is when they have a lot of available women... 🤮
Anyway, she is the victim (even her bratty daughter speaks to her without respect), she was cheated on and now pretends not to feel attraction to an std-caricature-of-a-male-dna...
She let him sleep in her daughter's bed. I didn't read that far, but I hope she burned the bed or at least bleached the sheets, before her kid got to sleep in it.
WTF, folks? Why are the heroines always weak, poor, inexperienced and male protagonists have dicks instead of brain? Do you see yourself that way? Is it your type of a dream man? 🙄

Sad....

What a wonderful story !!! I do not have words to describe how much I love this book. Seriously, I really loved this.
It was so lovely to see Beau breaking through Hailey's barriers and fighting for their love and what a cute thing to see him being a real father to Lottie, the wonderful child deserved it so much.
For those who have followed this series of books from the beginning, I can assure you that this one is as wonderful as the others.
Now I'm excited waiting for the next book from Jami!!!!

Loved, loved, loved this! Hailey and Beau are both trying to protect their hearts, but I love the genuine friendship that develops between them amidst their scorching chemistry. Lottie definitely steals the show more than once. I totally teared up at the end, too. If that's not a sign of being invested in this romance, then I don't know what is. Another amazing rom com from Jami Albright.

I love Beau Callen!
I love what he did for Hailey. I love what he did for Hailey's daughter. For a constant flirt and charmer, he gave these two the stability and courage to be what they needed to be.
This whole series has been incredible to read but I think this one may just be one of my top two favorites out of the series!

Once again I’ve ventured out from under my rock and taken a chance on a new-to-me but apparently popular author. My respite from darkness certainly paid off and, just like that, Albright secures herself a place on my list of must-read authors with this hilarious, delightful, heartfelt read!

Single mom Hailey Odom has rented out her house and moved her things, but at the final hour she has a disagreement with her fiancé and leaves him at the altar. Just one little detail she's forgotten: she returns home to the same house she already rented to her friend and up-and-coming country music star, Beau Callen. Let's just say things get very interesting when Hailey's sleep is interrupted in the middle of the night by the new tenant. (Picture a six-foot-plus hunka hunka bunking temporarily in the only available space -- nine-year-old Lottie's princess bed.)

Hailey has been blamed for more than her share of mishaps in small-town, small-minded Zachsville, Texas. She does her penance by being on every volunteer committee and letting the PTA moms walk all over her while she tries to keep the bar her mother left her afloat. I’m not sure the last time I met a heroine who did so much growing and self-actualizing as Hailey, and her stubbornness makes her fight it every step of the way, but that only makes Hailey's transformation that much more inspiring. It’s sobering when she realizes the lessons she's been inadvertently teaching her daughter, but it’s beautiful and uplifting as Hailey makes her own community and family, one of her heart and her choosing.

Then there’s Beau, one of my favorite kind of heroes. Unrepentant flirt with a sexy smirk who's protective of his lady and not hesitant to stand up for her, but knows when to step back and be supportive. That doesn’t mean he’s a pushover because, when Hailey needs it, Beau doesn’t sugarcoat the truth. He has a big heart, especially when it comes to little Lottie, and his interactions with her are some of the most poignant, special scenes in the book.

Whether you like single parent, friends to lovers, small town romance or strong four-legged secondary characters, there's something for every romance reader in this romantic comedy. You’ll laugh out loud as it squeezes your heart, and you’ll be eager for another visit to Zachsville and more of these amazing characters. Grab your copy of this heart warming, hilarious, phenomenal read today!

Loved this so much!!!!!!

When I found out that Beau’s book was #4, I couldn’t read book 3 fast enough. I needed the smirking, charming, and sexy AF country singer’s story. And Ms. Albright did not disappoint.

Beau is a huge flirt, with a sexy as sin smirk, and has a heart of gold. I want to hug him and squeeze him and call him my own.

Hailey and Beau tried so hard to stay away from each other. It was best they remained friends. But guess what? Their chemistry was off the charts HOT. So they decided they needed to be friends with some fun, sexy times added in the mix.

And then feelings had to go and get involved.

Also, there was a cute and sassy, mini-Hailey named Lottie. She is a big part of this story and I fell for her hard. Constantly getting her heart broken, I just wanted to make all of her sadness go away. But Mr. Sexy Pants Beau stepped up and already had that covered. Because he’s awesome. And beautiful. And kind. He fell hard for her, too.

I love that we see the characters from the previous books, because I love them, too! The cast of characters from this series has found a place in my heart.

This is yet another amazing story in this series. This well-written RomCom deliciousness had me swooning, smiling, and tingling...everywhere.

So many warm fuzzies.
Lots of laughs.
Tons of smiles.
All the feels.

I would like to scream from the rooftops for everyone to read this series. Do you have to read the first three books before this one? No. But I really think you should. Because you will love them.

This was one of my most anticipated reads this year and it did not disappoint! I’ve been dying to read Beau’s story since we first met him in Running with a Sweet Talker. This book is now my favorite in the series. Hailey and Beau are exactly the kind of love story I like to get lost in when I read. A definite must read!

Honestly, I don't think Jami Albright can write a bad book! This one is an excellent addition to this series. It's swoony, and angsty, and loooong! I love long books! I made myself read this in little bites between other books otherwise I would have devoured it in one sitting and been bummed that it was over. Definitely recommend.

I’ve enjoyed author Jami Albright’s Brides on the Run series, but Running After A Heartbreaker is the perfect balance of funny and heart breaking. Single mom with an awesome kid, tied to her home town by a promise she made her late mother. Up and coming country western star who is about to break into the big time. It is sweet, made me laugh out loud, and made me tear up a time or two. I love the interplay between the hero and the heroine’s daughter, that the heroine is strong but vulnerable, that the hero thought he had a plan for his life but when it derails he realize he needs a new plan. When I finish a book and I feel happy and satisfied I consider that a win and Running After A Heartbreaker left me feeling that and more.

Hailey Odom has the moniker of the town harlot all because she got pregnant at 16 and told her boyfriend she was pregnant the night before the State Championship football game which caused him to lose focus and lose the game, or so the town believes. Now divorced from him and pretty much raising her precocious 9 year old on her own, Hailey volunteers and helps others around town in hopes they’ll see her as the respectable adult she’s become and not the girl she once was even though she still works in the bar she inherited from her mother.

Beau Callen is new in town and honestly only around for a short while, he’s an up and coming country star and uses Hailey’s bar to practice with his band in between gigs. He’s noticed her, its hard not to but his late grandfather drilled in his head that the life of a musician doesn’t mesh with a committed relationship and family. He wants to do his grandfather proud, but the more time he spends around Hailey and her daughter Lottie, he’s finding it hard to live by his grandfather’s words.

Hailey is all set to marry a man who she liked and would be a stable male influence in her daughter’s life since her ex and her father’s dad defined bad dad. But when she realizes her soon to be husband doesn’t believe in her ability to bring her mother’s bar back to profitability while making necessary repairs, she knows she’s selling herself and her daughter short and it really isn’t fair to Roger either. She walks away from her fiancé realizing she’s going to have a problem when Beau returns from his gig as she’s rented her house to him.

The heat between Hailey and Beau burned brightly even though Hailey pretended to be immune to it and fooled everyone including Beau at least for awhile. When he returns Hailey has to break the news that since she’s not married she and Lottie will need the house, but she offers him the room above her garage which has an interesting name. Being in close proximity has them spending time together, but more than that Lottie takes and liking to Beau and his dog Walter. Spending time with them both makes him realize he wants more out of life, but his career is on the path to break wide open and Hailey feet are firmly planted in Zachsville.

This was a bit of a slow burn romance, but I love that they spent a lot of time talking and getting to know one another. I love that Beau isn’t afraid to let Lottie confide in him, that he tunes in quickly to her feelings, and he spends time with her that her own father can’t be bothered to do. While Hailey tries her hardest to keep her distance, watching Beau with her daughter melts her heart (and her panties). While problems do arise, I was glad that even when it took time they aren’t afraid to apologize and move on.

A sweet, yet sexy romance that is jam packed with action from start to finish, Running After a Heartbreaker is fantastic!

The waiting may have been long for this fourth installment, but it was worth it. In Running After a Heartbreaker, Jami is back with one more Bride on the Run to make us laugh out loud.

Visit whacky Zachville one more time to find out what the promising favorite country superstar Beau Callen has become. Tag along as the Heartbreaker will try to break the ice around Hailey's heart - a single mom and bankrupted bar owner, who is the most stubborn and most despised woman in the whole city. I swear Hailey will make you curse in frustration.
Luckily for Beau, he will find some allies in Hailey's daughter and friends to win the woman over. Sure, his vocal skills and physical attributes will come handy as well, and more than once, if you see what I mean.

Overall, Running After a Heartbreaker was a sweet touching story with hints of spice and fun.

If you have read Jami Albright's other "Running" books, then you have been looking forward to reading Hailey and Beau's story. They showed chemistry and sparks in a previous book and it's great to see they have their own story.

Hailey is a single parent holding onto the one thing she has left of her mom and the doing the one thing her mom asked of her before she died. To keep the bar open. She's pouring everything she has into it, but it seems to be a losing battle.

Beau is a rising country star, doing what his grandfather always wanted him to do.

Things happen that put Beau into Zachsville for an extended period of time and the sparks and chemistry between him and Hailey are undeniable.

Can they be together and still keep the promises they made?

Another great read.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars! I absolutely loved every single second of reading this book!
The chemistry between Beau and Hailey was off the charts!
They were so well developed and relatable. I loved Lottie she was so sassy.
This is definitely a must read book. I was sucked in so quickly with this book and stayed up way too late reading it. (Totally worth it) You can read and enjoy this book without having read the others in the series but it is fun to see the other characters from previous books.

Hailey and Beau are all at once light and deep, hurting and healing, and just all out lovely. The two side characters of Lottie and Walter also had my heart in multiple ways. Easy to read and easy to love. Another great romance by Jami Albright.

I received an ARC at my own request and the review is my own opinion.

This was a good read. Hailey is a single mother just trying to cope. She just walked out on her wedding. Now she is just trying to survive. Then enters Beau into her life. She didn't want a relationship but we know how this goes. Thankfully in the end they get their happy ending. Especially because her daughter deserves to have a real man in her life rather than that creep she had to call dad.

Not sure but part of me thinks Beau may have been the sexist for me. While I will always treasure Running with a sweet talker this is something so utterly sexy about a man that not only falls for a single mom but a man who truly cares for her kid as well.

Beau is just... Everything right

Well she wasn't my cup of tea. Her relationship with Roger spoiled the first half for me. I did not like her handling of many of her situations and some I understood considering her background.

So I wavered from 3 stars to 4 and will say 3.5

Sexy songwriter meets single mom 🎶

Jami Albright's Brides on the Run series just got a new story to add to the already fun, humorous, HOT and steamy collection and with it, a new leading man to fall in love with. This book has bumped off all the others as my favorite in this series so far. Of course, I loved each and every one of them on their own but I've been patiently waiting to have Beau's story since he appeared as Jack's newly discovered cousin in book 2.

While bar owner, Hailey is trying to get past the humiliation of the whole town judging her after she dumps her groom at the alter, she and her daughter are slowly wiggling their way under Beau's radar and straight into his reluctant heart. They might be just what he needs but didn't think he wanted. He and Hailey are just friends, so he was sure she wouldn't want him anyway.

Beau, nicknamed the Heartbreaker for obvious reasons...I mean, look at him- gorgeous, sexy, funny and if that wasn't enough, he's a sweet country boy at heart. He is a gifted musician, a singer with natural talent and wow, all that swoony charisma is hard to resist...the world is waiting to discover all he has to offer as he plays his music for the good people of Zachsville in Hailey's bar waiting for his big break.

I really had so much fun getting to know Hailey, her precocious and perceptive daughter Lottie and of course the hunky, thoughtful Beau. The presence of so many of my favorite and crazy characters from the other stories playing such a big part in Beau and Hailey's trial and error romance was a huge added bonus for me.

Some of the best parts of Jami's wonderful stories, besides her amazing writing ability, are the sense of community she creates for the reader to feel a part of with her little town of Zachsville. A lot seems to happen there!!! The quirky personalities of her characters, the witty dialogue and of course, the sweet and awesome couples you wish were your friends so you could hang out in their world all the time! I always finish her books with a smile on my face, maybe some happy tears and a yearning for her next fun, romantic story.

Running From a Heartbreaker is told in my favorite way- Dual POV's and can be read as standalone, but, if you have a chance, check out the other books in this series. A fun way to pass some time this summer while possibly finding a new author to love!

An copy of this book was provided for me to read in exchange for my honest review.

This is definitely my favourite book of the series so far. With her very wonderful humour author Jami Albright has created not only a fabulous book but a fabulously entertaining series. Her heroines are always strong kick ass, take no prisoners women who know what they want(at least most of the time)😄. Her heroes are strong, dependable, handsome men with minds of their own(until they meet the heroine...then all bets are off😄. The storylines tug at your heartstrings, make you swoon, see red & seriously blush & this story was no different. Hailey’s a kick ass single mom to the sweet, sassy, funny little spitfire Lottie. Her life’s been anything but easy, living in a town where she’s hated & having to deal with not only an idiot of an ex-husband, a disappointment of a father & now an ex-fiancé who she left at the altar, she’s had it with men. Beau is the sexy, swoon worthy up and coming country music star who’s been rehearsing at Hailey’s bar & keeping her nerves on edge. His life’s not been easy either, but after the death of his grandfather he’s on his way to the top of the country music charts, with his eye on Hailey as well. What happens when they finally give in to their chemistry is scorch the pages hot but when they let down their guards to their hearts it’s wonderful. I loved little Lottie, she was cute, hilarious, sassy & sometimes sad having to deal with a dimwitted uncaring father. Her spunk had me laughing out loud at times & her pain had me sobbing along with her. It was great to see Gavin & Scarlett, Jack & Luanne & Hank & Charlie again & to see their lives moving forward. I definitely recommend this book & series.

Our hero, Beau, might be an incorrigible flirt, but he has a heart of gold and steals the show in this funny, romantic and heartwarming book. The story follows Beau, a musician on the verge of his big break. He’s set for success until his band unexpectedly implodes and he finds himself living above a single mom’s garage. Hailey hasn’t had the best of luck herself, and so she’s decided to play it safe and marry a predictable, nice guy who doesn’t give her any butterflies (unlike Beau, though she will deny that to his face). Plans change when Hailey calls off the wedding, and now she’s living with the source of her constant temptation. The two have some serious chemistry, but neither is interested in going there because it will ruin the plans they’ve laid out for themselves. But as Hailey and Beau get to know more about each other - and Beau shows his adorable side interacting with Hailey’s daughter - it becomes impossible to ignore the attraction between them.

This book is seriously funny and the banter is great, but there are also plenty of touching moments that show how perfect Hailey and Beau really are for each other. On the surface, they may seem like total opposites, but once they dig deeper it becomes obvious how much they actually have in common. I loved seeing both characters grow and better themselves because of the time they’ve spent together, and the chemistry between them was just the icing on the cake. It’s a great light and fun read with plenty of heart.

Hailey is blamed by her hometown for causing her ex to lose a major game during their high years. All because he got her pregnant and couldn't handle the news. So she has been going overboard trying to get the town not to hate her or her daughter by volunteering to do things for the community. Plus she runs her own bar which is turning into a money pit for her. When she overhears her soon to be husband plotting with her father to sell the bar she knows that she can't marry him and walks away. With yet another thing to talk about her with the community keeps up their chatter about her. However she forgot that she rented her house out to Beau so when he shows up late one night she think he is a prowler. Beau is back in town because of craziness that happened the night the band learned they had a number hit. So when he learns that his plans for a place to live are falling through it just goes with everything else in his life. Yet Hailey comes up with a compromise that will work for the both of them. Letting him stay in the garage apartment she has and him playing at the bar for her. What Beau didn't count on was falling for the beauty and her cute daughter. Will Hailey give Beau a chance at her heart? Can they work with him touring soon?

This is a great story that will have you laughing out loud at parts. The chemistry between them is off the charts hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend it to any book lover.

Hailey was getting married for a second time she didn’t love him and he doesn’t love her but they cared for each other plus Roger cared for her daughter Lottie so why not, she was getting married in the bar well the beer garden that she promised her dying mother that she would keep open but her father didn’t approve actually her father didn’t approve of Hailey’s life at all and their relationship was hanging by a thread. Hailey went over to the country music singer Beau dubbed the Heartbreaker who was practicing in the bar they were friends and he was always telling her how beautiful she was but that didn’t make Hailey’s heart thump no it didn’t, anyway she threw him the keys to her house that she was renting him and Beau got in her personal space and whispered in her ear dump Roger and run away with me and Hailey’s heart was not thumping way too fast not it wasn’t. Beau didn’t know what just happened between him and Hailey she is getting married so she can’t be the woman for him. Hailey’s fiancée was talking to her father she heard Roger agree with him about selling the bar she really didn’t know this man and she wasn’t going to marry a man she didn’t know so Hailey ran. That’s all I’m going to give you guys but this is just the beginning of an amazing story I loved it and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Beau is introduced in Running with a Sweet Talker. Beau is raised in West Virginia and (if all guys are like him .... sigh) is a country singer. He is funny, flirty, and has women attracted to him without him trying! Beau, might be an incorrigible flirt, but he has a heart of gold. Beau, a musician on the verge of his big break. He’s set for success until his band unexpectedly implodes and he finds himself living above a single mom’s garage. He needs a home that will accept Walter (his dog). Hailey is attracted to him and fights it at every turn by rebuking his flirtations. He is kind, and thoughtful to Hailey's daughter who he nicknames Lil Bit. This book is seriously funny and the banter is great, but there are also plenty of touching moments that show how perfect Hailey and Beau really are for each other. The epilogue is just so beautiful and i have to admit i cried! Jami is such a gifted writer she just describes everything in detail and makes the reader feel like she is living the story and descriptions of people in a small town. The situations, humour, the hilarious comments had me laughing out loud (occassionally snorting and then cough when travelling by bus lol). This is the fourth book in this series and I’ve read all four, and enjoyed every character and their love stories. Highly recommended!!

Ms. Albright did it again this book is so dam good! Are you looking for a book that will make you laugh maybe cry a little and just can't put it down. Then look no further this book is for you!
I love the characters and let's not forget that she adds all the other characters in this book from the previous ones especially Honey.
Beau Callen is a country singer trying to make it big but for now he has been playing at the local bar Boon. Where the owner is feisty and takes no bullshit from him. His good looks and charming personality does not work on her. She tells as it is. Which is why he likes her so much. Hailey the owner of Boon's is suppose to be getting married and moving out of her house so Beau will be renting her house and he can finally move out of his cousin Jack's house until he moves to Nashville. Little did he know that he would end up living in Hailey's apartment up her garage as she did not end up getting married. The interaction between these two is steamy and funny. Then there is Lottie Hailey's nine year daughter who is such a riot you can't help but love her. She know exactly how to manipulate Beau to get him to do what she wants.
I voluntary read this book for and honest review.

Perfect love story that will melt your heart. Beau Callen is an up and coming country music star. If we remember from Running with a Sweet Talker, Jack and Louann found Beau when Jack had a family reunion. Beau is his cousin and has so much talent and looks he is destined to be a star. Beau is focused on his career and sweet talking the ladies. That comes natural to him, they all love him except the feisty Hailey Odom. She seems to be immune to his charm.

Hailey is struggling to keep her bar open, Boon's was her moms and on her deathbed Hailey promised to keep it going. That seems to be more and more difficult. When her soon to be husband is overheard having a conversation with her father she decides she is better off on her own. That is until the "heartbreaker" moves into her home.

This is such a great story not only about falling in love but healing. We also get to revisit all the great characters that live in Zachsville Texas.

I received an early copy to read and review and give my honest opinion. I loved this book and I love this series. This is a standalone so you don't have to read the previous books, but you will want to. They are all fantastic. I highly recommend this book. 5 stars for sure.

Hailey and Beau have appeared in other books in the Brides on the Run series and I was excited to get their story next.

Hailey is a single mom to Lottie and runs the local bar Boon's. She's independent, hard working, and still feels like she's trying to earn the respect of townsfolk who look down on her.

Beau is on the brink of success as a country singer and is in Zachsville to work with Gavin, Jack, and Luanne as he builds his career.

A few unfortunate events later and Beau is living in Hailey's garage apartment while they both deal with difficult issues. Hailey, despite being attracted to Beau, will not put up with his charm or nonsense. I liked how she challenged him and their back and forth was a lot of fun.

One of my favorite parts of the book was Hailey's daughter Lottie, especially her friendship with Beau that develops. Lottie is hilarious, sweet, and has some moments that break your heart. She was a great addition to the story.

The story is told in dual POV and I liked getting the chance to see everything from both Hailey and Beau's perspectives as they grew closer and learned more about each other.

The Brides on the Run series returns with the town scapegoat, Hailey Odam, struggling under the weight and scrutiny of ten years worth of judgement from the close-minded town of Zachsville.

Unfairly condemned for becoming a teen mum at 16 and ruining the life of the towns star football player, Hailey has come to believe that she’s worth nothing but hardship and bad luck. She walks out of her wedding to Roger, who’s opinion of her and her dedication to her failing business aligned with so many other people’s low opinion.

Rising country music star Beau Callen is staying in town whilst preparing for an upcoming tour. His attraction to Hailey doesn’t sit well with his ambitions, but he can’t help being drawn to her and Hailey’s sassy daughter, Lottie. The time he spends with the little family burrows into his heart, giving him feelings he never thought he’d want.

The way Beau helps Hailey restore her self esteem is beautiful and swoon worthy. His relationship with Lottie is heartwarming and makes up for the crappy job her own father does.

The writing is on point as usual; the characters are real and raw and human. Four books into the Zachsville saga and it really feels like coming home. Such an easy, comfortable and welcoming book to read. I love it.

This was such an awesome story! It was fun, flirty and sweet. I loved her “country-isms”! Too funny!

It has all the wonderful characters from earlier in the series located in Zachsville Texas. This is Hailey (owner of Boon’s Saloon) and Beau Callen aka The Heartbreaker. He is the next up and coming country music star.

The story begins as she’s about to get married to Roger. She finds out right before the ceremony that Roger isn’t as quiet and mellow as she thought he was which causes her to cut and run.

Beau has run into trouble too with his band mates and needs a place to lay low. Hailey is having trouble with her father, exhusband and keeping her saloon out of the red. He and Hailey come to an agreement to help each other out.

They learn to trust and lean on each other. He teaches her and her adorable little girl Lottie that there are good men out there and it’s ok to ask for help. It a journey of growth and gaining confidence for them both. I swear, I just kept thinking, “made for TV movie for the Nashville network”! Would be awesome!

I received this as an ARC for my honest review.
