First Semester (Elton Hall Chronicles Book 1) Kindle Edition
Throwing herself into the insanity of college life, Violet makes new friends and even catches the eye of a handsome guy. Everything is as it should be, until one night out she crosses paths with a mysterious, sinfully attractive man. Not only does he manage to ignite a burning desire deep inside her, he also happens to be her new, off-limits college professor.
Professor David Berneli is only visiting Elton Hall, but a lot can happen in a year…
Everyone knows any personal relationship between professor and student is strictly prohibited. But somewhere in between lectures and after school events, Violet manages to dazzle him. She not only challenges David at every turn, but also tempts his every desire. No matter how hard they try to ignore the crackle of sexual tension between them, a few furtive glances quickly turn into clandestine meetings in his office.
By giving in to temptation, Violet and David fall deeper down the rabbit hole…
As the semester ticks on, Violet begins to question not only the whirlwind affair that threatens to consume them both, but David’s desires as well. If he’s not willing to risk everything for her, she’ll have no choice but to leave the comfort of his arms without looking back.
Before any decision can be made, a looming threat comes out of the shadows, putting her and the passionate relationship she has with her professor in danger.
Now Violet must fight for her own life, and for the one she wants to spend it with...

About the author

Sarah Fischer works hard fighting the good fight in personnel security. She graduated with a degree in criminal justice and married the calm to her crazy. Then Sarah had a health scare and needed heart surgery. While recovering, she finally had the time to write the stories playing out in her mind. Her college romantic suspense series, Elton Hall Chronicles, is now available in its entirety on Amazon. First Semester, Second Snowfall, and Third Wheel remind you what you loved about college, show you what you missed, and make you yearn for what could have been. Sarah also has a contemporary short story in the Craving Bad anthology. If you like sweet Christmas stories, she and Kelsey McKnight co-wrote two new stories, Cupid Claus and Royally Abandoned. In her spare time, you’ll find her with a book in her hand, at the movies, or watching just one more episode of reality tv.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 April 2017As this is the first in this series, we meet so many characters. Some are endearing, some are HOT, some are sweet and some you may just want to throat punch!
This is an enjoyable read, based around Elton Hall. Friendships are formed, relationships are tested, and boundaries pushed as everyone navigates their way in Elton Hall. Throw in some sexy sex scenes, taboo relationships and intrigue and you have the makings of a good book.
Looking forward to reading more from this author!!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 June 2017Critical reviews are difficult to write, and that is particularly the case when one is reviewing a debut novel.
I will start with the positive, and that is that the basic premise of this book isn't bad and, on the whole, I understood what the author was trying to achieve. However, for me, the author's lack of experience showed, and the story suffered as a result.
The conversations between the characters alternated between having a natural cadence and then lapsing back into more stilted and awkward language, due a lack of contraction use.
And the interactions themselves were also quite varied in the success of how they were described. Sometimes it was very difficult to see Violet as a college student, because her outlook was often very young, and just at odds with other aspects of her character and approach.
I struggled with similar issues for David's character as well. At times, his behaviour felt to me to be borderline juvenile, whilst at other points, there was a clear gap in their respective maturity levels.
Ultimately, this was let down by the execution, and just bounced around a bit too much to be a truly enjoyable read.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 April 2017Violet Carrington is a freshman at Elton Hall and it's at the University's casino night when she sees the most amazing man. Their eyes meet and sparks fly but next time they meet it turns out 'Hercules' as she's called him is actually Professor David Berneli.
Any relationship between them could result in him losing his job and her being expelled but how long can they fight the attraction they feel?
Violet tries to distract herself with Trent who seems a far more suitable option for her, with him she can walk round campus and not have to hide, plus there's Officer Finn who is obviously attracted to her.
I believe this is this author's first book and if so then she's off to a good start.
This is a first in series and as such it's busy, there's a lot of character introductions and some interesting characters but......
Despite all the characters this moved a little too slowly at times and it seemed strange that Violet suddenly finds herself wanted by David, Trent and Finn.
I understand the dilemma of a student/professor relationship and I know Violet was attracted to Trent but I found it disconcerting that Violet was kissing and making out with David one minute and then Trent the next, it just didn't sit well with me.
Like I said this is a first in series, it's not a cliffhanger but there is unanswered questions, particularly what was going on with Trent?
I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by NetGalley.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definite must read with a great story-line and well-developed characters!
This book was fantastic! From the very beginning of this book you can tell that the author put incredible thought into these characters. As you read and got to know their different spunky, or cute, or intriguing personalities there was nothing one-dimensional about them. I had a great time walking along these characters as they worked through that crazy transition from high school to college student as there was a terrific realness to their anxious desire to meet people and get involved mixed with that nervousness of starting something new.
The college campus really struck me hard in my nostalgia center as it was incredibly similar to my college campus (except for the freakin' awesome castle!), and I loved having the opportunity to go back to that time and re-walk through the beautiful outdoor areas.
I also really appreciated the way that the friendship between Violet and Annabelle evolved very naturally. They weren't best friends that trusted each other with everything right off the back, but instead had the relationship that happens when they're your first friend in a new place. The chemistry between Violet and David is also expertly navigated. Violet is truly someone you're rooting for and Professor David Berneli is incredibly magnetizing, and the passionate way that the author describes him to be just immediately draws you in. With playfully flirtatious moments mixed in with the sultry, there was no shortage of fun and sexy moments to read and I can't wait for the rest of the series!

3.0 out of 5 stars “This is probably a terrible idea. But aren’t the worst ideas the most fun?”

POV: Single POV (heroine)

Ending: HFN / Kind of a Cliffhanger
Re-read? No
“Then walk away. If you really don’t feel this spark between us, then walk out the door,” he whispered softly in a tone that reached an unknown part of me. No other man had even come close to finding this part.
For the most part I actually enjoyed this book. I liked the plot and the writing but there were two things that knocked it down to three stars for me.
This first was that at the beginning, Violet acted like a fresh faced freshman (which she absolutely was), excited about all the things that college had to offer her. She was even rightfully gunshot and nervous about classes and some of the other things going on in school. Then out of the blue a switch is flipped and she’s suddenly a boy crazy, sexually experienced, siren. It was just odd and I started to find her annoying. However, I could overlook that if it wasn’t for problem number two.
The ending was a complete anti-climatic, unsatisfying, mess. It doesn’t even really END. They both just decide to give their relationship a try and that she’s going to go home to England with him over break. That’s it. I saw it was a series and figured that there must be more but the next book focuses on her friends and their love triangle. I’m disappointed and not interested enough to read that book for any clues as to what happens between Violet and David.
Like I said, not horrible. I was just left feeling unsatisfied.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining Read
This was a good read. I found it to be entertaining, relatable, and it moved at a great pace. However, I did have trouble. The author introduced too many characters during the first two chapters that left me a little confused: Violet, Annabelle, Prof. David (Hercules) Berneli, Natalie (Nat), Clarissa, Trent, Tyler, Lola, and Ofc. Finn. I assume it was the nature of the setting, nevertheless…. Then Ofc. Finn had me feeling some kind of way. His character was unrealistic to me. Thus, the reason why I gave the book 4-stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sarah Fischer captures the college life everyone wants to relive perfectly.
Sarah Fischer captures the college life everyone wants to relive perfectly. From well-developed characters to detailed campus imagery, I felt myself transported back to my youth. It takes a certain style of writing to persuade a reader to keep reading, and this book contains just that. I mainly love that each character has their own story to tell with time and is different in their own wonderfully, developed way. I really appreciated the author’s ability to aid in my own personal journey of reminiscing my college life. There aren’t many books out there that focus on such a life-changing period in many people’s lives. We seem to attend college and a quick however many years later it’s gone and adulthood begins. I often feel sad that those times are in the past. It may seem or sound corny, but reading Fischer’s novel filled that void and let me relive those years. I cannot wait to be transported back again to Elton Hall with her second book, Second Snowfall, a book I am sure to quickly finish yet again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Difficult to review.
First off I would like to say I managed to read the entire book even though several times I wanted to stop. The premise for the story was good but left me feeling adrift for more about the characters. Who were they really? I never felt them fall in love. And then the style of writing, yes grammar, accurate but most of the times I felt as if I was reading a manual of sorts. Too many details and not enough feeling. I decided not to read the second installment of this series even though there was no ending for David and Violet.
